2022 KTM 1290 SAS - HEED Crash Bar Install

- In this video I install the Heed crash bar system, step-by-step on my KTM 1290 Super Adventure S. I show the process to install and talk about my decision to go with Heed. There is a short 360 clip at the end while riding to show how the bars look in motion.

Love the video, did you wrap your bike yourself? I'm trying to decide between the SAS and SAR. I owned a 2019 SAS and loved it, but want a little more off-road-biased bike. How are you enjoying your SAS? Any issues?

Hi mate, protect your frame where the ‘’U’ bolts go as they can damage the frame. I removed mine and went back to OEM I now have a small indent in the frame 😡.
Good call I thought about that when I installed the ubolts. Haven’t done it yet but will.
Great looking graphics on your bike and thanks for the install videos - very useful. Did you get a chance to check for the compatibility with the KTM aluminum skid plate yet? I have the skidplate on my '22 SAS and are considering the Heed crashbar.

I looked at these bars, it worried me however that in a fall the top mounted "shock absorber" section would unecessarily damage the headlight surround as the bars moved. No doubt though it would remove some of the vibrations I noticed from the Outback Motortek bars. Did you see it as a possibility?
Make your own ultra thick bash plate, even easier now that you got a template. No welding, just bending, painted black.

The new HEED's are different and do not mount on the frame anymore!? the outback's are more expensive and they are "extremely" well mounted on solid parts of the motorcycle. I am also doubting and am a bit disappointed that heed removed the frame mounting piece from their full crashbar products.

Nice vid, looking at the same bars in orange for my Super Adventure S when it is delivered.. and maybe their steel or aluminium engine skid/bash plate as well. Did you look at any aluminium ones and how heavy are they? Thanks
I did not see any that were aluminum and honestly I don't think I would want aluminum despite the increased weight of steel. I did not weigh them but they did not feel all that heavy when I was installing them. I thought the tradeoff of increased weight for the protection they provide is favorable.
Just wondering, why do you have Adventure R on your graphic kit when you have an S model? Up on the top tank line, it clearly says "Super Adventure R" Pre made kit maybe? "R" on the front fender as well.
It wasn’t by choice. You are correct, it’s pre-made to an extent. I was able to alter colors and placement of graphics but some symbols/lettering just came that way. I like the overall design change enough, that it doesn’t matter to me that much.

I've riden all the big adventure bikes but this one has so much character and fantastic qualities that it is my favorite!
And why not the R? What made you decide to go with the S?
Did you not look at the outback motortek bars? They will be what Im going for
I don't think they were in stock when I was ready to order. They look stout.

I tried them in conjunction with their skid plate, it turned the bike into such a vibrating resononating mess i took them off. Made my toes go numb from vibration.
@@cummomoto Im yet to have this problem and Ive had them fitted for a few weeks now.

what kind of tires do you have now?
Dunlop Trailmax Mission 50/50 tires.
Did you have to change the front fender to the R model fender for these tires?
