I explained to her that I really appreciated the access to history, being able to get to know an entire era and many of its side aspects through a biography. And then the facial reconstruction! Why is the king of France not driving through France in the center, without numbers, in his unique car, with a flag and coat of arms on the roof, the doors open backwards. And the president of France rides sideways, with plates, in a casually ordinary car. And why, in general, no one is so greeted by France as the king of France?) everything is blocked thousands of soldiers, hundreds of horses, 10 guards, etc.
At the time of Louis the XIV only men did ballet. The reason he is showing his legs is to show that he was a dancer of ballet. The fifth position in ballet shows strength. This is fact that most people don't know :)

These videos are so amazing. I love how all your recreations humanizes the subjects. The smile always hits hard because we rarely see historical figures looking anything but austere. Wonderful work!
For me, personally, the concise well told history of one of the most famous reigns in France was phenomenal. The beautiful visuals all the way through the presentation were enhancing it rather than detracting from it. And the final faces of Louis XIV that you created were amazing, especially the modern version of the older Louis. Thank you ❤.
A great dive into the importance of the "Sun King". I found the portraits at the end very moving, if you'll excuse me for saying so. And while I definitely understand why his modern portrait was bald, surely he of any man would wear a modern style of toupee, or possibly even have hair implants. Well done!
He was a good-looking man. Johnny Depp wouldn't have been a bad choice to portray him in film. His descendant, Felipe VI of Spain, resembles him a lot too.
Agreed. Johnny Depp would have made a very good Louis XIV. Still, George Blagden did an outstanding job in 'Versailles', and he's very easy on the eyes. 😍
@lebou9540 YES, Felipe VI (current King of Spain) and a Louis XIV descendant resembles him greatly - especially when Felipe was about 15 years younger. I met him and shook his hand at a Book Fair maybe 2007 or 2008. After all my studies of France and especially my studies of Loui XIV, I was ready to feint! I have tons of photos of that day too!

I became obsessed with the sun king after stumbling upon Versailles on Netflix (it’s not 100% accurate, but it really brings the palace to life 👍🏽👍🏽) This was a great video on him. Loved it all!
I know it bummed me out they changed the women's appearance too much. The Queen was not a brunette nor a 1 dimensional person. She was a strawberry blonde with blue eyes. Only his brother's wives were anywhere close to what they looked like in real life. Great performances however so fun to watch! Louie would have LOVED IT.
What a fantastic story of the Sun King. Your depiction of him was very beautiful and he truly came to life. There was a secret sense of humanity and depth which I enjoyed very much. I always enjoy your videos...better and better.

The “Now” makes me hold my breath. History makes these people seem so much more untouchable, otherworldly, higher, for a lack of better words, than us common people but when you bring them to life they really are just the same people we pass by every day in our ordinarily small down to Earth lives. I find it fascinating and strange how they can seem anything else. (It’s probably just me who feels like this and that’s okay!)
Louis XIV was known as an absolute stud during his lifetime. The Sun Kings natural hair color was brownish gold, he started to adopt the thick black curls as a wig later on as a fashion statement. According to first hand descriptions, Louis had sensuous lips and these beautiful muscular legs which he was very proud of and loved to show off in tight stockings. No wonder he was so successful with women, not only was he the most powerful absolute monarch in history but a very handsome man.
This is incredibly timely!!! Thank you. I’m recently went to Versailles and am currently reading Love and Louis XIV….been thinking a lot about him and this period of French history lately and am absolutely enamored. I found this video fascinating. It really is an amazing summarized biopic that helps to see the impact of his reign without getting lost in the details. Thank you again for sharing your work.
Just the best! You bring history to life. If schools used your videos and techniques, children would fight to sign up for the classes. I have always loved history but most think it dry and useless. This is a shame because we learn so much from it and through some twists of Fate, learn about our own times. I agree with others here, that smile made him so human and charming.❤️
I love your channel! The history lesson is wonderful made even better by your calming voice. Then, the icing on the cake, the images! Thank you for sharing your talent with us! Please keep the videos coming!
Becca and Andre, your videos are so detailed and immersive, I feel transported back in time each and every time. This is now a favourite. Love the history of Louis IV and of course the stunning Versailles. If you’ve never seen the series Versailles, it’s well worth the watch. ❤ and appreciation RNS.
Amazing documentary and rereations!! I can tell this one took some extra time with such a detailed series of events. Truly amazing what you do, bringing theses truly real people back to life.
Thank you! Yes this one we had to dedicate an extra week to creating, its actually our longest video ever so it was quite the task! But Andre did an AMAZING job with the research and script so we are really proud of it.
I caught a cold and I'm binge watching your videos, you do an amazing job in making the dull and flat historical figures from school suddenly become so humane and real, both with the story telling and recreations. And the private jet look is jaw dropping 😯If you said it's a photo of his descendant, a prominent art collector, who enjoys playing golf, doesn't pay taxes and has lavish mansions all over the world, I'd 100% believe you! 😅
Stunning! I am really grateful that you preserve the account of the history along with creating such breathtaking and accurate recreations of the images of historical figures. I love that you included a rendering of "modern day Louis XIV."
I've just begun my own little study of his reign, and seeing him brought to life before my eyes gave me goosebumps, and the motivation to continue my work. Ths was incredible. And like many have commented before me, he was an incredibly good looking young man.
I love your videos so much! I would love to see a video on the Habsburgs (or maybe one of them). Portraits are usually more flattering than reality and some of the contemporary descriptions of the deformity are so hard to imagine. It would be cool to see your take on it!
Your videos are so personal, history becomes real in a way it never could from a book. I have to watch this again - there are so many details. Thank you for another exceptional history lesson.
I always get excited to see you've posted a new video. So well done and you're recreations are fascinating. I loved all three of these, but I particularly loved seeing Louis if he were alive today. Amazing work - thank you!
Great video as always! I wonder if you could make one on Sissi. It would be so interesting to see what she actually (as possible) looked like. I studied French history in high school, so I found this most interesting. Thank you.
Honestly French history has never really peaked my interest but youve really changed that, this video and your video on Marie really made me fasinated with french history and fashion. Its a lot more interesting than how they teach the french Revolution in school.
Absolutely amazing! Beautiful recreations and great insightful content about the 'Sun King'. Love your channel. Impeccable format and narration. Thank you so much.
A fascinating aspect to the portraiture of men in the 17th and the 18th century is how important legs were: you will notice that men adopt basically the same stance, with one leg turned out to show the lines of a calf. You will also notice that they wear heels, because heels help elongate legs and give backsides a little lift (and in Louis XIV's court, a very few favored individuals got to wear heeled shoes with red leather soles--yep, that's where Louboutin got the idea!). Essentially, the Rigaud portrait shows Louis' power through the extravagant framing of his legs, which viewers would have understood as a symbol of the king's virility and potency. Also, the Sun King was famous for having the best legs at Court, so the painting was probably pretty accurate...
I very much enjoyed this, very well done. Also, the portraits of the young Louis XIV brings to mind the Spanish model & actor Manu Rios. I look forward to watching your other work.
I used to work in Versailles palace when I was a student and the wax portrait is surprising. It also has real hair (not the King’s but real hair anyway) at one point in time it was possible to see the portrait in a room in Versailles, I think is not there anymore but I’m not sure. In any case, is a nice video. Well explained.
Becca, aren't you, in fact a real time traveller ? Bringing such realism and accuracy in your re-creation is beyond amazing...And as a french woman, it warms my heart to witness one of the biggest and most iconic ruler of my country, come to life... Brilliant work!
Brava Becca! Your young Louis is a charmer. I always suspected there was much more than the crown that was driving those countless women to him 😍Your re-creation also made me wonder if he had any Italian blood (which his portraits never did), and then I recalled his Italian paternal grandmother! The older Louis on a business jet is also 10/10 👍Your skills are amazing.
WOW! How incredible is this?? THANK YOU SO MUCH BECCA, for all of the work you and the Team do. European history is my absolute passion; it's in my blood. I love your channel and loved this recreation of Louis XIV! ❤ I always look forward to the next one!
I'm always excited for a new video. Your voice is inviting and pleasant as you tell the history of each person you choose. I makes the reveal of the person that much more enjoyable. 😊
I really wish that this channel existed when I was going to school, because history was one of my worst subjects, I would have had a better chance of passing, or at least if they just recruited teachers who didn't make it sound so dull and so boring, the only channel that makes history sound more interesting it makes it very easy to pay attention and to understand everything.
These images gave me pure chills. All my life (44yo) I've been an avid art and history fan from I could read at the age of three. These videos are so well made and put together, it's a privilege to watch, thank you❤
Thank you for the recreations. I'm listening to the Illiad right now and the recreation of Helen enhances the experience. Any plans for perhaps Odysseus or Aaneas?
Your work is extraordinary! I love history, and this is such a sobering and intimate way to experience their humanity. Would you consider doing a Bible Series? Jesus, Bethsheba, The Queen of Sheba, Solomon, King David, Deborah, The Disciples, Esther, Abraham, Moses and his children, Adam and Eve, The Shulmite Woman, on and on and on - LOL! It would be amazing.
Incredible that one man was endowed with so much luck and so many personal qualities - wealth, power, good family, intelligence, generosity and last but not least - good looks! Boy, did Louis know how to love!
Thank you so much for this splendid video. Your narration is so clear and your voice so easy on the ears. I own quite a collection of fragrances and I had always wondered why some French ones are so strong. I have done a lot of reading on the subject which led me to develop a soft spot for The Sun King. According to the Perfume Society, His Majesty took the trend for perfumery to new heights, by commissioning his perfumer to create a new scent for each day of the week. My husband bought me a portrait of Louis XIV and it’s now hanging on my wall, beside my perfume shelves 😊
Love the “if they were alive today” renderings! Feels like a little bit of time travel and they look like such normal people that you could know today.
I collect french coinage and have nearly 1 example of every type of 5 francs. I have an Ecu of Louis XVI, XV, and now XIV. It is a expansive silver collection that spans 200 years. I love learning of the late King, your video taught me so much more that I had not known. It is truely an emotional video to watch. To see the growth of a child into truely a spectacle, a genuine ruler that seemed to want what was best for the kingdom and not just for the king, to turn into a man absorbed by the thought of power and needing more. Very wonderful production!
These wonderful videos always get a reaction when I watch them. Every time they smile, I always immediately smile back you feel a connection to these humans who died hundreds of years ago. It’s awesome,

So happy to see your video this morning!
Everything about this channel just calms me and brings me joy 😅
So nice to see a video on the channel again! Nice to see a dash of French history on the channel.
You have SUCH a good voice for this type of video. 10/10
I think the Sun King is dazzingly handsome. Really interesting and besitifully presented. Thank you. ☮️
Is it silly that the music at the end with the images of Louis moved me nearly to tears? What an amazing video.
@@RoyaltyNowStudiosYes I agree, Andre's writing was very good!
The editing in this video is probably one of the best! 6:01 this part! *chefs kiss*
I love all your vidoes and I would love to see a video on Philip duke of Orlean.
Thank you.
That was beautiful--the history, narration, and depictions. Also, your voice is very soothing during recitation. Excellent. Love your channel.
He's just as beautiful as i thought he would be. Thank you for the smile :)
You have the best narrative voice in this genre..
I loved it, from start to finish! Good job! ❤
the music you use is always amazing. So beautiful, captivating and relevant to the videos theme.
This is amazing!
Will Livia Drusilla be a candidate for one of your gorgeous videos?
She already has a video!
Very nice work.
You have a remarkable talent.
Thank you so much ❤️
I very much enjoyed this, very well done.
I am a lover of history. Outstanding presentation. ❤
Becca, aren't you, in fact a real time traveller ? Bringing such realism and accuracy in your re-creation is beyond amazing...And as a french woman, it warms my heart to witness one of the biggest and most iconic ruler of my country, come to life... Brilliant work!
Fun fact : one of my patient was looking like Louis 14 without his wig, and actually i always thought this patient has the aura of a king !
What is the title of the music that accompanies the last chapter, please? It's hauntingly beautiful.
I never thought Louis was much to look at but I can see that he was very handsome in his youth.
Darling girl, you are an artist. I love stories and images from the past and you do the very best of both. Thank you.
Keep up the great work. 👍 This potrait was awesome 👌.
I absolutely adore all your videos! Thank you so much, Becca and Andre. A wonderful thing you're doing for all of us our viewers :)
LOVE LOVE LOVE YOUR CHANNEL!! Fantastic work. Thank You, I learned so much.
WOW! How incredible is this?? THANK YOU SO MUCH BECCA, for all of the work you and the Team do. European history is my absolute passion; it's in my blood. I love your channel and loved this recreation of Louis XIV! ❤ I always look forward to the next one!
One of the best pages on UA-cam. & your voice is soooo soothing!
I'm always excited for a new video. Your voice is inviting and pleasant as you tell the history of each person you choose. I makes the reveal of the person that much more enjoyable. 😊
Amazing work as usual; very well thought out and executed!
The Sun King, smile was lovely!
Really great story telling, I absolutely enjoyed watching this recreation.
Fantastic video and fantastic narration.
3:31 … 😮 what’s going on in the bottom right of this picture??
some of the best content on YT. fantastic production.
This was a great one. I loved the history and especially the image of how he would have looked today. Great job!
Thank you. Very informative and interesting.
I am stunded at the magnificence of your work! Bravo!
Incredible that one man was endowed with so much luck and so many personal qualities - wealth, power, good family, intelligence, generosity and last but not least - good looks! Boy, did Louis know how to love!
yeah, just to look at his "living " face, you can see he was a real loverboy .
Amazing and gave me chills. You do an excellent job 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
What a fantastic presentation.
Your work is astounding! I love learning more & seeing the people come to life!
You did it again. Great job really. I love the way you bring those historical figures to life!!
Love the music with your depictions of Louis at the end. May I ask what it is?
Thank you so very much!!!! Your site and your videos are the best! Thank you for recognizing the complexity and the historic context.
These wonderful videos always get a reaction when I watch them. Every time they smile, I always immediately smile back you feel a connection to these humans who died hundreds of years ago. It’s awesome,
