18:12 you went too far on this one. there is indeed a census of the kosovan lands from 1455 which says the otherwise. albanians have been migrating to our fields as we were simply resettling our lands in then's austria as a result of their oppression. they have been fighting us because their nomadic dreams were funded and imagined by the powers that were trying to weaken serbia, because of it's medieval position in the balkans. what about the cleansing of 400.000 serbs from kosovo? and 1904? tito's communist yugoslavia forbidding the serb resettlement in kosovo so the albanians could become a majority in the area? tito's dreams of a greater yugoslavia?

The section you are referring to is making the point that religon was likely a greater source for identity for people in pre Ottoman Balkan states than nation. National identity as we think of it in the 21st century is a more recent development. It has its roots in the 18th and 19th centuries.

People were more closely linked to their traditional tribal or family identity and local church identity. I wouldn't quite call it a religious identity, beacuse many ancient Balkan and South Slavic customes were more commonplace than Orthodox Christian ones. But nationhood did not really exist yet, since there wasn't a centralized nation state. The most common thing that united communities were the Kosovo myth and stories of glorious victories of their ancestors over the Ottomans. It kept the ethnic component alive, even if it isn't exactly nationhood.

I already whatced a little bit more than half of the video and I could tell u that u made several huge mistakes.
First, Balkans are extremely complex and u cant make a video about this by spending several days of research.
First u have to know detailed history of the region, ethnic and religious demographic maps of the region so u can have some base or foundation however u wanna call it.
Non of these nations are in the Balkans for thousands of years, all of these nations are mixed with Slavs, Greeks and some others natives of the Balkans such as Ilyrians and others.
First "slavic" states that were formed were Bulgarian, Serbian and Croatian, but lets skip the history 'cuz it is too long and too detailed.
Well, lets see... when u mentioned Battle of Kosovo (1389) u said that was the battle between not just Serbs and Turks (Ottomans) but there were Bosnians and Albanians too.
Well u got it right but not as u think, Bosnians as u call them existed then as one of the several Serbian states, they were not separate nation, u dont have and u didnt ever have a part of land called "Serbia", Serbia is just a name for union of several other lands such as Zeta and Duklja (todays/modern Montenegro), Kosovo and Metohija, Šumadija and Pomoravlje, Raška, Bosna/Bosnia (not entire Bosnia but it doesnt matter right now).
Ohh yeah, Albania in middila ages was almost entirerly part of the Serbian Kingdom (later Emipre).
About the Yugoslav wars and Kosovo, u never mentiond that Serbs were majority in Kosovo for the most of the time, and that Tito literally forced some Serbs out of the Kosovo so he can populate it with Albanians 'cuz he wanted to show to Albanian president/dictator Enver Hodza that Yugoslavia doesnt hate Albanians so Albania could unite with Yugoslavia.
And even before that in WW2 Albanians commited massive crimes and ethnic cleansing agaist Serbs there (kosovo and Albania itself).
So around WW2 and after Albanians became a majority in Kosovo for the first time in History.
No something about the breakout of Yugoslavia, Serbia (SRY) was never in war with the Croatia or Bosnia, Serbia only supported Serbs from these countries, u also said that Serbs commited crimes and ethnic cleansing in the Croatia and Bosnia and thats true but u never said that Croats and Muslims did the same to Serbs, sometimes Serbs did it first some times not, Yugo wars were really brutal and not that simple as u think.
U really fucked up this video, like a lot.
A lot of things are not true or not fully presented, like u wanted to demonize the Serbs and make Croats, Muslims and Albanians victims.
All in all video is rlly bad, I tried to write this comment as short as I can but I dont think I even said everything I had to/wanted to.

Stop repeating the pathetic propaganda of the serb media.

    @pr0si0nalizm20 3 роки тому +39

Hey first I just wanted to say that this is a really good video i do reccomend it and agree with most of the things in this video.
I am a serb and yeah I don't recognize Kosovo, I do see why people would tho and completely understand their opinion.
But the reason that I don't recognize Kosovo is well the thing that it has been historically serbian, by that I mean that a lot of our serbian heritage and history is there, a big number of our monasteries,
Why do you think that all of them are under 24/7 KFOR protection?
Also when you were talking about the post WW2 Yugoslavia you forgot to mention the reason that the serb population was about 10%.
You see again this is for how much I have researched this topic so not everything is 100% right but I'm pretty confident it's true.
Before WW2 in the region that was then considered ,,Kosovo and Metohia" the population of serbs and Albanians was about 50/50 after the second WW since Albania was under the fascistic Italy and since the Yugoslavia didn't want to join the Axis, Albanian troops were sent to Yugoslavia's territory of kosovo the killed serbs and becouse serbs ran away in fear of being killed, that was also the one and only time that some part of today's kosovo was in Albania hands.
So anyways after the war the state of population changed drastically to (and I'm not too sure about this one) ~20% serbs and ~80% Albanians, plus give the fact that Titio wanted the most of Balkans in the Yugoslavia he made the Territory of what is considered Kosovo bigger which he wanted to give to Albania under the condition that they join the Yugoslavia, and he made the conditions of living for Albanians better then what they had in Albania, so well Albanians were coming from Albania to kosovo, and the population of serbs decreased even more, now yes they did made the story of Albanians and Albanian police, fighting them? (I don't know how to phrase it better so I'll just go with that)
Also I'm in no way trying to deny any atrocities committed by serbs, as I find that it is a man's duty to recognize something that his peoples did no matter if it's a good or a bad thing so I'm not denying anything that was done by serbs, but I would have appreciated if you had pointed out that atrocities were commited by all 3 sides of the conflict.
Fing hell my mother is a Croatian Serb she would know what kind of things went up there.
Also about the incident račak, now I'm not that sure and I forgot the name but there was a Finnish forensic that "proved" that it staged, but I'm not so sure about that and it could have been very well actually happend.
Also it would be nice if you had mention that the US bombed the rest of Yugoslavia, illegally, and the fact that they used depleted uranium bombs that have consequences up to this very day, and that 60% of NATO targets were civil, they bombed hospitals, factories and that about 5000 civilians, police officers and soldiers were killed.
Anyways that what I wanted to add, not trying to disrespect anyone here I do know that ordenery people had nothing to do with it, also you did do a great job at, at least trying to explain Balkans and also sorry for the long read, I hope I didn't misspell something.
Also please do point out I said something that was wrong,
and I do reccomend that anyone that wants to know about this thing research it by yourself.
Also yeah I found this video from
r/kosovo I go there sometimes to see what they're up to.

@@hugoslavia3670 Most of the ethnic hatred present IS the Nested Orientalism that is mentioned earlier in the video. It's just a political tool to distract from more important topics and create conflict. It's an easy tool to use to stigmatise someone as a traitor to a greater national cause. It's largely been used since World War One actually, since everytime these ethnic groups lived in empires like the Ottoman or Austro-Hungarian Empire they helped each other in times of strife. The only times where ethnic tensions were noticeable when ideologically nationalist politicians and ellites got involved, made the country too authoritarian before between the World Wars, which raised the ethnic tensions. Then the authoritarian government squashed the post war ethnic tensions and they stayed that way until Tito died. Then during the 80s, after the Berlin Wall fell, ethnic tensions rose just when Yugoslavia went bankrupt after a decade of poverty and nationalist propaganda. Again stirred up by nationalist politicians for their own ends. Anytime Balkan people decide to slaughter each other, all they loose is time and resources to make their societies better.

I feel that this video missed an opportunity to provide a greater overview of imperial meddling into Balkan politics and an overview of why communist and Yugoslav sentiments became so popular between the two world wars. It would have informed the current political situations a lot more. Also maybe analyzing the influence of drug cartels and crime syndicates on the break up of Yugoslavia. I see the separatist movements in Yugoslavia as a sort of scapegoat to increase centralized power and authority in Belgrade, while waging war on the pretense of illegal separatism, you become despotic and authoritarian at home, running the country like a crime syndicate with lots of war propaganda. Mind you I believe this was a coordinated effort beacuse it helped war profiteering ellites in all of the ex-Yugoslav states at the expense of regular citizens, who were so broke they became slaves with no political leverage being forced to seek foreign aid to solve their problems. Not being able to influence your country's politics in any way makes you bitter and resentful.

If you have a chance read up on Dr. Florian Bieber who has written on such collective victimization that is perpetuated in Serbia. To be objective, all myths that are carried on in the Balkans produce these types of narratives but Serbia’s close ties to the Serbian Orthodox Church has kept the victimization trope alive. How can you be perplexed as a nation on why your country’s military was bombed after the atrocities that were committed against Albanians and Bosnians in the 90s?
