People can be so judgmental because they have no life and that’s all they have to do. They’re miserable so they gotta make other people miserable by being assholes.

I travel and live out of my Jeep Wrangler pulling an overland trailer. I am retired. I got to retirement, my kids were raised and I found myself wondering what to do next. I have way more friends amongst my vanlifers than I do locally. So, I have never found lonliness a problem. I do have a fridge in my Jeep, so food storage isn't a problem. I find I am way happier traveling than I would be sitting at home staring out the window watching the world pass me by watching TV. Safe Travels :)

My husband passed away 4 years ago August 24th. I have been wanting to do van life for about 8 years and was trying to talk my husband into going before he got sick. He was very ill for 2 years before he got a lung transplant. But unfortunately he was too weak when his body rejected the lung and he did not make it. I now have just a car and have been afraid to try camping in just a car. But I honestly have to admit that watching you has sprung a spark in me again. Oh and I am glad you don't pay much attention to people that make comments to you about living in your car and your husband leaving you. Sometimes people just like to see if they can get other people upset for entertainment on their part. Love your videos, keep going

    • @soloelisa

Aw thank you Kimberly! I'm so sorry for your loss. I can't imagine how difficult that must have been. I had been thinking about vanlife for about 7 years before actually trying it. I think starting in a car is a good idea before investing into something bigger... but if you do it don't get discourage when it gets uncomfortable, just take breaks as needed. I hope you decide to go out and explore! 💕

I'm going back through your videos I hadn't seen. I think its awesome that you read the comments but I hope you don't let them discourage you at all (it seems like you don't). I think what you're doing is AMAZING! I have a small bus that I inherited from my Dad. He had dreams of traveling around the country but died before he could. I had the bus for a year or so wondering what I was going to ever do with it. My world got flipped upside down last year when my wife decided to leave. As much as I hate that she left one thing it did was open the door wide open for me to continue with my Dads dream. (and something I've always wanted to do). I've been converting the bus to live and travel in. Its been a slow process for me, and no youtube channel of it as of yet, but your videos really inspire me. So Thank You!! I also think its awesome that your stepdad helps you, I would have loved to been able to work with my Dad on this even though we would have probably butted heads a lot :) Keep up the Awesome Work!!

Good for you that you found a way to live out your dream of living a life of "freedom" from the office. Most people are unfortunately stuck in a 9-5 office job that does not allow them to roam free. I retired very early and the joy of getting in the car going on an adventure with no specific destination in mind or any time limitations is just awesome. I did so myself and figured I go for a couple of weeks which turned into a couple of months just roaming the country. I definitely want to do that again, but this time I want to convert my SUV to be as comfortable to camp in as possible. Loved your curtain solution BTW.

What keeps you young, is doing what makes you smile .... this lifestyle is not for everyone, but neither is traditional home living. People living in a house and are quite isolated still. If you hike, walk, run and camp out - that keeps you in shape. Adventure and happiness is the Rx for a fulfilling intentional life. Good for you!!

First time I've seen your videos and I enjoyed it. Listen, you are a very smart person and know exactly who you are and what is important to you. I think people make some assumptions about UA-camrs and try to put them all in a box as the same. You are not the typical case. You're educated, you have a marketable skill being a pharmacist and on top of that also run a business teaching English online. You have structured your life so you can do what you want to do. Right now that is traveling but that could change but again you have the skills to do what ever you choose to do. Living out of my car wouldn't be for me but I am thrilled you are enjoying life and wish you all the best.

So funny to hear of some of the concerns that some people raised like this person who claims you age twice as fast on the road sleeping in a car. Living the life of freedom from the 9-5 office job, who in reality often is more like 9-7, or 8, or 9, or 10 certainly does not age you faster. If anything it ages you less. Living a life like this full of adventures, exploration, and wonders rejuvenates you and relives any stress. I did a lot of strenuous hikes like 14ers on my road trips and that certainly keeps you in shape too.

I would imagine most men would like you simply because you are an adventure nut! Lots of guys love the outdoors and would love to share that experience with their girl. Unfortunately, not many women out there like this stuff. Also shows you are resilient. I've always wanted to live on a Narrowboat, on the canals. America is massive, UK is small, smaller than California! So you have a lot of country to explore. All the best to you and safe travels.

I write this not to be mean but rather informative. The sleeping board is always flat. The correct word to describe your meaning is level. As in no slope. Slope can make one really uncomfortable when blood flows towards the side that is lower more easily. My wife and I camp out of a Toyota Sienna. Our double sleeping board has much longer legs at the front of the car then near the back These legs allow for larger storage totes for cloths near the slider doors and thinner totes for kitchen stuff and dry food near the back where the cooking gear is. I used a builders level to get it perfectly level, and also because the car over it's length is sloping as well. Cheers and happy travels!

Brilliant. I go in my VW GTI for up to months at a time. Luv it. . Wished I could send you pics of my set up. If you get darker window tinting, you may be able to get away with just a sun visor in the front windshield and not have to have the curtain, though it's nice how you made it. I just got a little solar charger that's helpful but cannot rely on it to charge itself from sun. Need much larger surface area panel for that. Looking into larger charging bank. Cheers, Chris

Who ever made the ridiculous comment about losing a man only succeeded in showing their true colors of being a resentful person toward you, simply because you’re a very likable woman, you give off a vibe of being confident while being humble, you seem to have a great attitude toward life, and with all that it unfortunately brings out some of those who are a bit pathetic, they feel they need to knock you down a notch because for some reason they resent people who have it together, keep rock’n and keep liv’n!

It also boggles my mind how people can judge others just by simple things they see on social media, but this is the world we live in.

I live in a Rav 4 hybrid during the workweek and a condo outside of commuting range on the weekend. I wouldn't want to live in the RAV 4 24/7 its too small but not having to commute during the workweek is wonderful and getting a break from the RAV 4 on the weekend is wonderful. I have a physical construction job, I do short gym workouts and I occasionally hike/snowshoe on the weekend so I don't mind sitting in the car for hours after work. I have a small ice chest and small microwave in the back of the RAV 4. I cook a big pot of something over the weekend, re-heat leftovers during the workweek I also re-charge my batteries from a wall outlet on the weekend. I'm able to mostly use the work and gym facitilies so staying clean isn't a problem although on the rare occasions I have to use the bathroom bucket its pretty unpleasant. I'm able to sleep on residential streets if I'm stealthy. I briefly had a full size Van and heat/cold were a major problem it takes a huge battery bank to run a A/C or heater. I learned to park in the shade during the summer and wear layers/get a good sleeping bag and run a small electric heater for about an hour before I woke up in the winter. The great thing about hybrids is you can run the heater/AC all night and only burn about .5 gallons in gas. I don't leave the car heater on every night because that would wear out the hybrid battery too fast but its very helpful on the hottest and coldest days. I also crack the windows about an inch at night to reduce condensation and coated my wood bed platform with anti-mold paint.

Wow hater comments sorry to hear you read these comments any social media will bring rude comments, i know you bought a van , but im happy to see many different vehicles converted to overlanding / camping traveling vehicles for instant the honda element i just saw how some have a rooftop nest tent that opens from inside and access your bed without going outside, not for me but happy to see other people turn a already frun vehicle into more and excellent gas mileage, and now you have a job profession that you can do travel without a home base again ignore the haters and live your life on your terms 😊 and always be aware of your surrounding

Hi Elisa. I just discovered this channel
It was suggested by Google because I follow several bus/van/camping channels. I also looked up your English learning videos. I recommended both channels to a Hispanic adult student learning English. (I am a volunteer ESL instructor.) I also recommended that she imitate your pronunciation because it is excellent, as are your English lessons. Thank you for the great resource, and for all the car camping videos.

Hi Elisa, you're the equivalent to what I do here in the UK/Europe.
I do it for all the same reasons as you & freedom/adventure is my main stay in life, especially since my daughter became independent in her life.
I also worked very hard in establishing my own business for many years & now it gives me the freedom/adventure travelling around, whenever=wherever I desire.
So far I've been doing it in a 7seater vehicle that the seats completely fold down, I also have a tent & tarp with me.
I have a nice home to go back to as I wish, but my true happiness is being on the road. I'm thinking of buying a camper/motorhome, but taking my time in finding.
Our similarities are stark, I believe we've found our amazing life.
All the very very best in all you do.

Hi! Loved this video! Just want to point out that, in your office set-up, the Yeti microphone is meant to sit upright to get the best sound rather than pointing at you. It might get you better sound with less echo from the sound bouncing off of the desk or ceiling. Just noticed. :) It's great how open and honestly you share your life!

Similar past to you. My sister and I were born in Venezuela to American parents. Dad is from Vermont, and Mom was born in West Virginia, working in an American oil camp for Gulf Oil. Cousins were both born in Argentina, under similar circumstances... PS. We love the travel life and feel like it has made us younger.... Best wishes OLT

it all depends I guess, I too like and enjoy the outdoors and exploring, I live in So. Cal. so I'm in close proximity to the beach, mountains and desert and I've done many camping and exploring trips, I also have a career and I live sort of in small homestead, one thing for sure is I've never been laying on the couch watching T.V. being bored. the thought of driving around and living in a compact tin box with wheels just doesn't make sense to me. Be careful out there.
    peace and God Bless.

You are adorable, smart and living your best life! Just the way you describe things and all your talents is captivating. So cool how you teach English. I have a friend in France doing the same. Thank you for all your inspiration! I’m taking many of your suggestions and implementing them into my new journey on the road. ❤ ( ps … love your beautiful bunny! I had no idea you could potty train bunnies!)

You are a beautiful, smart, and brave person. Although it may seem to some that you've had to have mess up to be living like this, it's quite familiar to me. My parents retired rather early, bought a van and traveled all over the U.S. for five years. Then they sailed their boat down the eastern seaboard Connecticut and through the Inter-Coastal Waterway. They lived another five years on their sailboat in Key West. Then they sold the boat and have lived in the Stuart area ever since, occasionally traveling up to New England, or out to Colorado in their Honda Odyssey. Five years ago they got the itch again, bought a new Ford passenger van (med length, med height) and removed the seats to convert it to a camper. I helped them with the beds, the rooftop AC, the roof venting, the electrical hookup, the solar system, roof ladder and running boards. They didn't want plumbing or a stove. After two years of traveling in that across the country, they sold that and finally settled down. I wish you the best and hope that I might someday venture out to live my life beyond this corporate cage. Buen viaje! By the way... nice touch with the music while you vacuumed your bunny. You are better than most with video production.

Your humor is very much like British humor😂, have you ever considered doing this in Europe? I live in Italy now, but only came here for a year or so, to explore. I dont do the van thing because I have dogs and it is risky for them if something happends to me, so I rent temporarily instead and use it as a base for local exploring.

My son is a pharmacist and I know what it costs to become one. The time, the studying, the effort. Is think you’d work another 10 years, scrimping and saving every penny you can while maybe buying a van and tricking it out. Then you’ll have plenty of savings, a good safe van to live in, and no need for a home anymore. Just my thoughts. You’re a beautiful lady, you’re going to want some companionship at some point I’d think. Lots of things to think about before going all in on this road living. Plus the obvious, the world is getting way more dangerous, not trying to scare you as I’m sure you’re aware. Be safe, re-consider a 5 maybe 10 year work plan before you hit the road full time
