I know it’s too late to make suggestions, but I hope you stopped at kern river brewery in kernville! Perfect way to end a day of fishing on that river.
@@rickobrien4025 Yes, the lakes up there looked devoid of insect life. It was so cold the guides on my fly rod were freezing up after every 5-6 casts! I would love to go up there right on the opener on Sept 1st next year. I would think the fish would be very receptive to dries and there would be good midge hatches. Matthew above was reffering to how I was talking about fishing the Kern River the next day at the end of the video on the hike out.
@@purpledrakefishing Oh right on, have you ever gone down the trail at the long valley campground on the south fork? I was thinking about checking it out but i'll probably wait til the conditions are better.
Not too familiar with the southern sierras, but I think the lakes are now frozen over. Will have to wait till next September when the short season opens on the Cottonwood Lakes.
Just listening to that wind gave me a chill!
Gorgeous fish, thanks for sharing. 👍
I greatly underestimated how cold it would be up there at 11,000 feet!
Hi Skippy, This is Purple Drake. I have moved my channel to "Fishing With Drake" Hope to see you there soon! Hope you are doing well 🍻
Very nice.

Got the old channel back--will be posting videos here again!
My Bucket List to catch wild Golden Trout. This is awesome footage, PD. Thanks for bag the frigid conditions and sharing with us.
Thanks Jon 🍻 I would reccomend hitting the Cottonwood Lakes right at the opener on Sept 1st.

Yes, I went there to watch the Dodgers game in the evening. I went there many times a long time ago and love that place! Sequoia Red is my favorite.
I believe the video is labeled "Fishing the Cottowood LAKES" . The river video is is for another time . By the way PD , were the bugs all gone ?

Don’t give up the secret spots
Hahahaha
I had to do a double take on the comment then I saw it was you so I knew it had to be a joke 🍻 At first I thought Cottonwood Lakes? LOL
When was this video taken ?
Early October--was very cold and had ice in the guides.
Nice work PD. 👍
🍻
Were you fishing the kern yesterday (the 23rd)? just wondering if I saw you up there
No, I was fishing there the week prior.

@@SituationVacant0 No, I haven't fished the south fork before.
PD…are you using a regular floating line w split shots? Thanks for sharing.
Yes, a floating line with no split shot. The wooly bugger I was using was weighted.
That view was spectacular! I look forward to getting up there sometime in the future.
I was planning on going up there next week but it looks like it will be too damn cold 🥶

Awesome catch! Just caught my first golden last week, such as incredible looking fish. How was the hike to the lakes?
Thanks Jon 🍻 The hike is 4.5 miles takes about 2.5 hrs and isn't easy due to the elevation/shortness of breath.
The lakes aren’t frozen over ?
I bet it's so much less crowded this time of year but I'd have a hard time with my hands getting numb haha
My hands and my FACE were near frozen. I could tell the fish have seen a lot of lures over the summer.
What's a good pattern to throw if you don't mind me asking. And a good leader length.
The fish seemed to like the olive wooly bugger the best--7' to 9' leader would work well.
@@purpledrakefishing thank you! Tight lines, keep those vids coming. 👌🏼 I hope I can go to as many places as you. Living the dream....

🤙🏼
kudos to you Drake, that's quite a hike
Was very cold too!
