That's awesome, sometimes you just have to crawl through puncture vines to get on good water! I have no clue where you guys were, this river has so much to discover!
I once heard the rocks on that river were grease covered bowling balls. The good spots are real energetic to get to, so those nice fishes have very little pressure. Me and my buddy tied a rope around the truck's wheel and we rappelled down to a tasty looking spot. Lot's of LDRs but we landed beaucoup beautiful fish. There's a little bar and grill not too far from the Dak, that Bing Crosby had built. Great spot for a couple of cold ones after a great, but exhausting day on that river
Where is that bar & grill exactly? just curious. I know that Bing Crosby used to own the Rising Rive Ranch that Clint Eastwood now owns, near the Hat River.
Dude, that’s some very nice river. It has all the different types of water to fish from, like shallow water to deep pools, and fast to slow moving water. Nice 😊 Life is so good isn’t it?
Wading and hiking that stream looks very challenging. Glad you got some good action and made it out without spraining an ankle. Heading up to the Catskills in 48 hours. Water is high but I can’t wait for perfect conditions.
@@purpledrakefishing I avoid the Neversink river in the Catskills because the wading is so treacherous. Rocks under the water vary greatly in size so every step is a risk. Sometimes we like those challenges as it keeps other fisherman away but do it while we're young and have no fear!
My go to nymph is a size 16 BH caddis pupae (green or tan). Think the fly creator (Mike Heck) calls it trout crack. Started tying my own flies over the winter. So excited to test them out thursday and friday. Love your vids, raw footage and uncommon rivers.

Hey PD. At 3:05 I'm wondering why you were going with an indicator rather than tight-lining. That seemed like good close-in pocket water. Trying to understand your thinking. Thx!
I'm brand new at fly fishing. Matter of fact the only rod I have so far is a Tenkara. Haven't had much luck with it yet. Been thinking about going all in. Where would you recommend I go to actually learn the basics? And I've never seen anyone use a float with fly fishing. It seems to work very well for you. Can you explain?
Floats/indicators are very common for fly fishing. Nymphing is the most effective method for fly fishing because fish are feeding on nymphs below the surface along the bottom on average 90% of the time. It is the best way too for a beginner to learn how to fly fish. An indicator helps with keeping the nymphs drifting along the bottom without getting snagged and also with strike detection. You can nymph without an indicator but it is much harder to do, and takes a little time to learn. Starting out dry fly fishing causes way too much grief and most people get too discouraged and quit. Dry fly fishing isn't that hard but it takes a little time to learn the casting and to time the insect hatches to where the fish are feeding on the surface. I do sell a beginner's video on nymphing that I think would help a lot if you decide to take up fly fishing. Just start out nymphing for your first few months of fly fishing and the rest will be easy to learn and adapt to. There are some videos on youtube about beginning fly fishing but I don't think they are very good--I plan on making one this summer for youtube.
@@purpledrakefishing I just saw that going to your blog and I will order. Thanks so much for sharing the knowledge. I've been spinner fishing my entire life but have always had a desire to cross over.
Luckily none, as just once could mean the end on that river! The Pit lower down from 3 is easier to wade though that isn't saying much. Pit 3 is just insane.

Toughest river to wade imo, especially below #3 which is insane when the flows are even just a little higher than normal.

Thanks Robert! That was definately a day where I kept thinking to myself how lucky I was to be fishing there and then.
Looks like a good day was had...Them wait a minute vines can be painful but they do keep the riff raff out...

Hi Sung,
The wading was tough and trecherous--one slip at the wrong place in those rapids and you could drown. Good luck on your trip!

No secret, it is just the Pit River, however for most of the river there are miles and miles of river that is hard to access/deep in the forest.
Awesome fishing!
Hey PD. At 3:05 I'm wondering why you were going with an indicator rather than tight-lining. That seemed like good close-in pocket water. Trying to understand your thinking. Thx!
It was because of casting in that tight brush. I could barely manage a roll or flip cast in there.
Very nice.
