Isn’t it just astounding the amount of stuff we accumulate over time??? Crazy! That was so much hard work y’all did, but to have things organized and easier to find makes it all worth it. Can’t wait to see your future projects and plans for this basement.

Great job!! We also have only one kiddo left at home, and a garage FULL of the past 20+ years. One of our goals this year is to clean out the garage. It may take allllll year to accomplish! Ours is a detached garage that consists of an "original" small area and then my husband had his "shop" built onto it. I have the original part for my storage bins of holiday decor, but there's also a TON of kids toys, bins of stuff from when we were homeschooling, some saw horses, a stove, etc. etc. etc. Then the "new" part is so full of overflow of what the kids "didn't have room for" in their homes, along with some old furniture from Granny's, and stuff....Stuff I need to go through; Stuff that needs to be hauled to the dump; Stuff that needs to go to Goodwill; Stuff I've long since forgotten I had, I'm sure 🙂 I know it's going to take us weeks to go through it all as I work a full time job and my husband is disabled. I dread it, but I'm also looking forward to it. So I really appreciate your sharing your progress; it is so encouraging! You are a such an inspiration as you make the most of the space you have; your home is lovely and inviting and you inspire me to do more in my own little home. tfs and God Bless!! ❤

I'm so happy you decided to keep your bedroom upstairs. We had a small house growing up and I ended up having my bedroom in the basement that was damp and I always had allergies, sinus infections and bronchitis from it. Your bedroom upstairs is more convenient with bathroom close and no stairs. You can get a shed in your big backyard for storage of the pool, bikes, lawnmower, outdoor tools. You can paint the walls and floors in the storage room with epoxy paint. The man cave is a great idea and moving the sectional couch downstairs would be great for gatherings. You have all that extra room in the basement that is prime real estate and so glad you will be utilizing it all. Can't wait to see it all done! I really admire your family and how down to earth everyone is and appreciative of everything you have!

Way to go! Huge project, but a lot of progress. That will be a nice, big room for Marion's hangout and workspace. Excited to see how ya'll decorate it. Our home is older, too, built in the 70's with a basement. I, too, have lots of boxes stored down there of kids' toys, clothes, school crafts and drawings they would make every holiday, and old VCR tapes/CD's of favorite movies. I need to go through them. Saving some for grands someday. We do get sentimental! ❤

Finally someone shows us their REAL basement and how to get through it all. Mine I call my dungeon. Unfinished, crumbly block walls from 1920! I also bought shelves and plan to tackle it. I’m on my own so it will be exhausting I know, but I need to just do it! Your video helped a lot and I will watch it many times for inspiration. So THANK YOU for sharing! A job well done❣️

That was by far the most relatable video, I have seen. I do watch different blogs, but come back to yours as they are so real. I love the decluttering, purging, good will haul and dump haul. I am running into the same situation with the pictures, picture frame, and I can relate. I have now purged so much of my stuff. And it feels so peaceful. I am down to one dresser for craft stuff, and my ever day decor I have cleaned out too. I really enjoyed watching. I like that it is an ordinary basement too. I did take my wreaths and store in a plastic coat bag, as it has a hanger on it and it can be hung up and the wreaths don’t get crushed. Good work, well done. I just wondered if you have a shed for rakes, pool etc. I am assuming no. You do really well to store all the outside stuff in the basement too.

Hi Arika I didn't realize that you had so much more space in your basement than what you have shown us with the craft room and bedroom. That is wonderful for you and Marion and will give you so much more living space. Marion will have so much more room with his office/theater room down there. I can't wait to see what you do with all the space. We did something similar with our basement which was originally an inlaws suite. My husband uses it for his man cave/work shop and since it is right off the garage, it works out perfectly. I love watching you transform the rooms in your home and look forward to the future videos. You have such a sweet family and I love that you share your Christian values.

I love a good clear out! Lol
When my kids left home I reduced my Christmas decor to just vintage pieces that I store in a top shelf (with doors) in my wall unit in the lounge room.
It takes 10 minutes to put out and 10 minutes to pack away.
That’s my kind of decorating 😊
I don’t do any other seasonal decor anymore as I have a small house and not much storage room.

I just love your content it's so relaxing and motivating, you guys did an awesome job decluttering and use your space properly, i think letting go of stuff is so satisfying. I think you can use Marion's old office as a pantry since it's small to be a proper room, and your old pantry could be just a laundry room

But we have to be creative about storage (we have one closet in the whole house) You really worked hard and it looks great. Stay warm. It's in the 70's here in TX but in the 40's tomorrow.

You guys are so energetic. 11 years ago we lived in a fairly large home, because in 98 we had added an addition with a basement on it. The original house was a pretty old home, somewhere in the late 1800's but we had done a ton of work to it. It was a story & a half. We had been running a Licensed daycare center with 55 top enrollment in our small town under 500. But in 2008, economy took a turn for the worse in our area. We lost enrollment & a misfortune at hubby's work he lost his job of 16 years. The bank took our home & we moved to a old double wide without even walls it had been gutted out. We have been trying ever since to remodle 1/2 of a doublewide & another single wide & join them togather. We live in a small single wide for now. We had lived in the home the bank took fir 30 years. And the bank gave us 45 days to get our belongs out! Our things are in so many different out buildings an old church my dad owned & just everywhere. It's been a nightmare. I would give my eye teeth for a basement even if it wasn't finished. Just to store some things. So I don't have to search so many places to find something. You guys will get it, you do such good work when you decide to do these kinda things. Your amazing! When this happened to us we where in our mid 50's. We are now both 65, It's been an adventure for sure. Some pretty rough.

Oh Arika don't feel bad because we have a dungeon as well. We rented a dumpster for 2 weeks and I went through every single box, bin, whatever was down there and threw out or donated what I had no use for. We got rid of all the cardboard boxes first. I had bins for all my my holidays, decor, winter and summer clothes. We had shelves and I would label them accordingly. Luckily, we have a garage so my husbands toys are out there. Can't wait to see the end result.

Great job! I can’t wait to see the next video in the series. It’s going to be an amazing transformation. I went through all my kids things that I had kept and only saved the awards, report cards and school pictures. I asked them what would mean the most to them and neither wanted baby clothes cause they had no memories tied into those things. Which made a lot of sense to me! I don’t have a basement but a 28’ x40’ detached garage and attic. We just did the attic after Christmas (filled my car twice with all the donations) and the garage is next after the cold weather here in NC goes away! I put long screws in the rafters and hung all my wreathes from them so nothing was getting smashed. And it’s so much easier to find them and not have to paw through a pile. Thanks for sharing and motivating us all to do the hard things! 😊

What a FANTASTIC space and how awesome that you and Marion have a vision that you are working on together. It truly is so rewarding to feel the awesome peace that floods over you when you are able to see the results of your labor. I’ve been sorting through my grown children’s memorable items as well. I’m creating a keepsake type journal for each of them using these precious items that I simply couldn’t part with. I’ll even be using the clothing items in this journal and possibly making a quilt or pillows for them. Since my children don’t really want these items themselves, I find this is the best resolution for them as well as the pleasure I get of reliving precious memories. ❤️😊❤️. Everything is coming along great. You guys are doing an amazing job and I know it has to feel great to get rid of a lot of the clutter.. One thing I did for my daughters because I did keep a lot of their school papers and everything was I took certain things for each year and Uploaded them on to I believe it was snapfish when I did it. I was able to caption things or put in some little phrases/comments and they now have these memories in a hard cover book and I got to get rid of all the papers I had been keeping for years. But your video has motivated me to continue to get rid of stuff. Can't wait to see the rest of the videos as you are move along in this process.

Ohmygoodness what a job! Reminds me of our home in Michigan with a basement. It accumulates so much stuff over the years! We have sold that house and downsized to a condo in Florida with no basement. Needless to say it’s just stuff and memories are forever. Can’t wait to see the finished product! Great job 👏🏻

Great video. Very motivating. Keep up the great videos. For you’re paint you may want to call your local paint stores to see if they dispose of old paint. I had old paint cans and when we moved I was able to take all of them to them.

I love this so much thank you for sharing I think it’s a brilliant idea to have the everyday decor and platters easily accessible in your craft room:) our house is quite small so I’m constantly shuffling things around to figure out what works. Also We need to clean out my Mother,s basement for her sometime soon too so thank you for the motivation!:)

Wow,you all got a lot done. We don't have a basement or attic storage but a shed and garage that are cluttered and overwhelming to go into. Been cleaned out so many times but never stays that way between the overflow from a small house and family members who ask us to store things because THEY don't have room. Garage currently has 3 sofas, one is ours from when we got a new one and then couldn't sell the other at the time due to covid and everyone isolating themselves. The other 2 are old and from family members who don't need them. Probably have to pay to have them hauled away. Three kitchen tables with chairs, none of which are ours. Bins of family member's child's clothes and baby accessories,"just in case" they have another. Been talking about giving it another cleanup this summer. Maybe it'll finally take.

Cool plans for the basement! ..You are lucky you have a basement for storage, in our state we don't have basements and have to rent storage off site. Marion's office upstairs would make a great walk-in pantry if you don't already have one!....wish I had a basement!...lol

So happy Arika that you and hubby are tackling your basement and sharing with your you tuber's. There are so many things you can do with your basement to fit you and your family needs. Can't wait to see the end product of your basement and Everything in-between.
    Have a blessed day!❤️

You guys did a lot of work. It’s gonna look great I’m sure. Our basement is unfinished also. My wash room is in our basement. I have it sectioned off with rugs and created kinda like room sections. But, their is always still so much to go through and organize it’s crazy!

I can so totally relate! LOL. It took me about 3 days of decluttering and organizing. Now my basement brings me happiness when going down there to get either a seasonal item or to do my laundry.
I'm looking forward to seeing how your basement reno turns out. So exciting!
