Rolling Stone Magazine called Grover Washington, Jr., “the most popular saxophonist working in a jazz-fusion idiom.” And because of Washington’s great success some critics have downgraded his music, calling it bland, too commercial, and not real jazz.

I saw him at Just Jazz in Philly in 1971. The 19th Army band was at Ft Dix, NJ. I played trumpet in that band.
