    This is a skill. So Easy yet so hard. Out of 5 layers in each batch I was able to use 2/3. And the rest was trash. When rolling dough and layering , try not to roll so hard bc they layers get smushed together , but if you don’t roll hard enough , the later of 5 is too thick and when you cook them in pan for those few seconds they don’t get cooked evenly or cooked at all. I can’t wait to try again, it’s definitely a skill that will need a lot of practice to make perfect

    Man this stuff is awesome!!! WAY cheaper than the spring rolls at the store, and WAY more delicious..! My sheets got slightly thicker than in this video, but still ended up as the most tasty spring rolls i ever had! Thanks a bunch for this video! My days of buying those really expensive but not really that tasty spring rolls at the store is over 😁👍

  • @michaelsataiwan
    @michaelsataiwan 4 роки тому +9

    Excellent video. Tried this today, but easier said then done. Pitfalls to look out for : 1. Try to create perfectly round circles when rolling the dough out. Odd shaped sheets are difficult to work with and you end up with disastrous looking rolls that doesn’t resemble anything like the perfectly shaped rolls in the video. 2. The batches of 5 discs must be rolled out quiet big else you end up with small sheets and small rolls with very little filling. 3. If you end up with not perfect circles like I did, do not attempt to make samosas as it becomes impossible to form them perfectly and your samosas will not look anything like a samosa should look like. Rather make them into spring rolls as the spring rolls design is much more forgiving for uneven shapes and much easier to work with. 4. Do not expect spectacular results if it’s the first time you attempt this, it takes practice to get nearly as skillful as the person in the video. I would recommend that you cut out perfect circles on paper and use that to guide you to try and get near perfect round circular shapes and matching size sheets and prevent ending up with odd shaped circles of various sizes like I did. Surprisingly, the dough is quite easy to work with, even for a klutz like me , don’t give up after your first try : practice makes perfect.
    Thank you for a great video with clear instructions, I’m excited to try again as I’m sure the 2nd time will be much easier than the 1st try and I’ll be very happy once I can turn out a decent batch of samosas and spring rolls.

    You don't mention how long you knead the dough (it looks smooth), how thin you roll the rounds, how thin you roll the stacks, or how wide your pan is (for a smaller pan, we should make a larger number of rounds to maintain the same thickness). You say to cook over a "medium heat", but you get brown spots in 10 sec on one side and immediate puffing up on the other: this suggests your pan is actually very hot.
    It's a nicely produced video and a nice (industrial?) technique, but I would have preferred less magic and more plain detail.

    This dough is similar to austrian "strudel" dough.
    Only difference is that you stretch the dough more & make one or two big sheet of pastry.
    250g AP flour
    150g warm water
    1 tsp Salt
    2 - 4 tsp (30-60ml) Vinegar
    Optional 1 egg
    * In case you are a novice & choose to add an egg, leave out 50ml of water for the egg.

    All-purpose flour 200g
    , Salt 1 tsp, Water 120 ml (approximately), divide the dough into 10 pieces, each piece should be about 32 grams. is it not too big for spring roll wrapper ???

      I am wondering how she made the dough.. did she batter it or she just let it sit as it is after mixing for 15mins.
