Description:
November 18, 1993, a sold out Sony Music Studios in Hell's Kitchen, where cameras bared witness to one of the most soul-grabbing, emotion-filled, acoustic performances of the century. Kurt Cobain would captivate an audience with a whole new twist to his artistic style, leaving them moved and speechless, wondering how far Cobain could have stretched his talents.
Within this retrospective look at Nirvana Unplugged Live In New York, I attempt to revisit that night and describe it to both old & new Nirvana fans alike; Although, many who were lucky enough to be present find it difficult to elaborate on themselves. This is my feeble attempt.

Jk bro luv yer vids I wish could kick it and smokes a cig wit u😅
Ha ha ....
Any lil peep stuff?
Love your videos man! There important
@@MrThedonhead thanks!!
“It might be nice to start playing acoustic guitars and be thought of as a singer and a songwriter, rather than a grunge rocker you know? Because then I might be able to take advantage of that when I'm older, and sit down on a chair and play acoustic guitar like Johnny Cash and it won't be a big joke.” We would have loved it, Kurt and did.
I was honestly somewhat anxious to see this or even decide what to comment after the anticipation. After there is so much to be said about such a performance and moment, so I thought I would just let Kurt speak for himself. I can't imagine having to write the script for this, brilliantly done. You did not disappoint Charles.
8:47 That's because a lot of people never knew or understood just how seriously Nirvana took rehearsals. Krist Novoselic later compared it to a full-time job, and reports around the _Nevermind_ sessions said that they rehearsed 8-10 hours a day. You're darn right they only needed one take!
The way he sighs before the last line of where did you sleep last night, is so powerful and heartbreaking. I only listened to unplugged for a few months in the 90s. Then I couldn't listen to nirvana for years. It was too sad. I was only able to play their music again ten years ago
Same here. Pretty much exactly like what you said.
@@AmericanSpyFox now I play it often cos it makes my 45 yo ass feel young again
I watched this for the first time when I was 9 years old. I loved it back then. I've watched Unplugged so many times in my life, but watching at 39...to have such musicianship, such heart, in their 20s to compose this timeless performance. Wow.
All best music is do e by people in there twenties? Maybe you don't listen to music but you do the Beatles, Dylan , Stones, oasis ,Pink Floyd on and on. Being in there twenties is a bonus,it's when you are at your best. Maybe listen or learn about music instead of making annoying cliche comments!!!
@@dondamon4669 damn, you got me there. I don't listen to music, bingo. Just saw Noel Gallagher last Sunday in Austin.
@MelisMelissaM Haha! What an incoherent soup of words. How did you even make sense of what they were saying?
Not only that, but they completely misquoted you. You never said "only 20 year olds make great music", simply that it was an incredible accomplishment to leave such a lasting mark at such a young age. Bizarre.
@@jamesdjl4359 my statement went completely over his head 😆, and I've no energy to be a keyboard warrior!
@dondamon4669 - That escalated quickly! 😮
This was amazing. This video truly deserves to go viral. I feel like all of your talents/best aspects combine here.
I say this a lot but the second half is better. This is just pt1.
Totally agree 🎉
The way you articulate these musically historical narratives are so profoundly resonant, Charles. There is such meaningful simplicity in your eloquence. I have been turning to your channel during my darkest hours for months, both on UA-cam and Patreon. The hard work you have put forth as you endeavor to bring about this beautiful, poetic content is deeply appreciated. 🖤
I appreciate the encouragement.
Seriously, Charlie. This is awesome. ❤❤❤❤
Where did you sleep last night was my favorite if I had to pick one. Still love Nirvana, still my favorite band. Still miss Kurt. 🙏❤
This was so well done. Memories flooding back and one of my favorite Nirvana performances. Fantastic review and commentary. Excited for part 2. Rock on.🤘🏻🤘🏻
You’re definitely on to something brother with how you’ve done this and the Alice In Chains unplugged video
This absolutely did not disappoint. It was amazing. I was sad there wasn’t more, thank you Charles
There is more! I was waiting on a package in the mall to finish it up. It came today!
@@AmericanSpyFox
Yes! Looking forward to it!
This was so well done! I truly enjoy all of your Nirvana content! Greatest band to have ever exsisted! Thank you for this insight!
Great insight, my friend. Great video. Loved it the whole way through. Sidenote, Pat actually picked the Man Who sold the World, but Kurt may well have been thinking of his dad while performing it! Keep these coming. Excellent work!
Wow this was absolutely amazing! Can't wait for the next part
So glad you did this! Definitely a favorite, the band was so tight.. The arrangement on the songs were perfect! Adding the cellist was crucial for this particular performance. Everything was enchanting and beautiful. Kurt sang with such passion, you can feel his emotions! He was nervous and allowed himself to be so vulnerable. Respect for him always... RIP Kurt ~ you will always be inside of us...
This is amazing and definitely deserves so many more like already!! I was 14 when this unplugged first aired at 9 on MTV, and I was speeches after I watched it. O already had Bleach on Cassette, and they were my favorite band in high school. My friend bought me this on cassette for Christmas. I will never forget my friends calling me the day they discovered his body and left messages on my answering machine just checking to make sure I was okay. Great video, and I can't wait to see the second part.❤ Also, my all-time favorite band is Queen, which is hilarious but true.
That's beautiful!! What you said about Kurt shining down on us as a sunbeam♥️♥️♥️ I love this! and how you have so thoughfully created this piece!! Thankyou I really enjoyed watching and listening!! I believe Kurt is the most beautiful sunbeam that breaks through the storm clouds and makes everything glow again🥰
Thank you so much!!
this review is a masterpiece - amazing. can't wait for part 2
Truly fantastic video, I can’t wait for more ❤
This was really good, well articulated, don't give up on these as there are still a lot of us who like to see these types of docos
Love what you got for part one and the editing you did for the videos and images!
"Like most decisions Kurt Cobain made, everyone was just waiting for it to blow up in his face." 💀
You have uncovered yet another talent - GREAT JOB Spyfox!!!
If only UA-cam would forgive me for telling the truth and stop hiding my channel.
Great video Fox! Looking forward to the next!
Their unplugged show was brilliant, and a once in human history event❤ Thanks for covering this so well!
I love it bud. Keep up good work. Ive been putting both episodes on at work and listening while wrenching daily. Sometimes everyone can't see or hear gr8 things.
Wow this is a beautifully informative documentary. You put so much into it and I love every second! Well done, Fox! ♡
Fantastic job, I cant wait for part two.
This review was sooo good! You really have an amazing talent for it. You were thought provoking, insightful and left me not wanting it to end! Brilliant!
Still makes me so sad to imagine all the things Kurt would have achieved and the amazing music he would have shared with the world. 😥 ❤
Thanks for the trip back in time to this magical event!
Amazing video!!!!!!! I can't wait for part 2!!!!!!!!
Amazing. Thank you for this man. I love this Unplugged so much, it's actually the reason I started liking Kurt and Nirvana. I wish we were able to see more of what he would have created.
This was amazing! I absolutely love your content and look forward to all of your videos!!! Much respect ✊
Fantastic job ASF, i could watch this over and over- lots of interesting details i never knew about Unplugged and such a great tribute and review.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Dude you never show up in suggested or new videos…just searched and see I’ve missed soo much! Another great video my friend
YT no longer sends out notifications to all subscribers. It's BS. They only send it to people who've watched the channel recently.
Very well done, ASF! I learned a lot of info I’d never heard before.
WOW....once again you brought me there, and what a ride it was.... Bravo.
always so happy to see a new spyfox vid in the feed. much love dude! x
Excellent! You, kind Sir, have reached another level! Love it! Bravo! (Chef’s kiss here)
Best breakdown of Nirvana Unplugged on UA-cam by far!!.. Great job ASF.👌🤘✌
Idk. I fu*k'd up. I had a longer version but shrank it down because of the amount of time it'd take to edit. I wish I had help. I could make them much better.
@AmericanSpyFox hi asf, only just seen your reply for some reason. I'd be glad to help in any way. What you did was great but a longer version would be brilliant ✌️🤘
Loving this! Thanks ASF well worth the wait 😊
Just outstanding! You did such an amazing job on this. It brought me back to that time and unlocked so many things I wasn’t aware of at the time. Well done friend! Bravo 👏 thank you 😊
Nice! ASF I look forward to pt 2
like ALL of your videos, this one is amazing! thank you once again. you do such a good job no matter what style.
Amazing video my dude!!! More like this please!!!! Well done!!!!
Keep up the good work brother!!
The Manchester music photographer Kevin Cummins once said he'd photograph Joy Division and they'd be laughing and smiling and the one pic he'd use was the one of Ian Curtis looking away, looking moody or sitting on his own. He seemed to feel a tiny bit responsible for if not creating the dark moody image, progressing it for sure. The bit about Kurt's smile made me think of this. Love this video.
This was a very touching video, your words were spoken eloquently here. Outstanding work!
Thank you so much!
I LOVE THIS
I WILL LOOK FORWARD TO PART 2
I wish more people were giving it a chance! Part 2 will be up tomorrow as long as my stupid migraines stay away.
I loved watching this, you did an awesome job on the video. Can't wait for the next one 👍
I'm liking the style of this video. It's a different style than all the other vids I've seen. Your photojournalism and journalism skills are BLOSSOMING! 🌸💐🌷🌻🥀🌹🌻🌸
I have no complaints at all on prior vids... but I see you are exploring different layouts of the vids and compositon...
great delivery.
You know what's crazy. I know these two college kids in theater at Ohio U that would make a perfect Kurt & Tracy If I had a hundred thousand dollars and some real cameras I'd write an indie movie about Kurt's early life.
@@AmericanSpyFox write the indie. Just write it man, get it down and just write it. Let all the other stuff come to play.
Great stuff man, thanks
Good work, great video & telling it as it was ....
I'm your follower for years, but this video.. how can this only have 5.3k views?! Powerful.. Congrats!!
YT isn't notifying all subscribers. Idk why. It's frustrating
This is one of my favorite channels. You do have opinions and voice them, but it’s mostly just straight facts
Charles, this is outstanding. To tell you the truth, it wasn't something I was hanging out for, but it was not at all what I was expecting. I've watched this three times already (while on holiday in South Korea!). I can't wait for part 2 now. Thank you for all your hard work.
I'm usually late to any party. I'm just now watching the Squid Game. My daughter's. Friends are from South Korea and they've made me watch it. It's pretty good.
@@AmericanSpyFox You're not alone. I haven't watched it myself. I'd been meaning to watch it before I went, but never got around to it. I'll get around to it one day, lol.
This was so well done dude! Great writing and great editing. I know how more tedious editing is then most people think. 😎✊✨
I really need to give someone else a shot at editing for me. It's the most tedious part and staring at PC screens gives me migraines.
Nice work man! Thank you
Great video. Cant wait for the rest. Best review of Nirvana I have ever seen
Excellent man, waiting for part 2..enjoy your stuff a lot!! Northern Ky guy here u aren’t too far from me I don’t think..fine job!!
Yeah, I know some folks from KY. My high school teammate played basketball for KY. I dominated him all through school, then our senior year he'd grown to 6ft 6in and started dunking over everyone lol.
The AIC REVIEW MADE ME FEEL LIKE I WAS THERE. IT SO SO GOOD
very good . i love your style and research , the presentation ... great work man
Can’t wait for part 2
Looking forward to this one..... hadn't heard of Essay Pro. Sounds like a great service though.
Hello ASF love youre show always tune in,think ure vids are getting better NEVER STOP,from england.
Really enjoyed this and looking forward to Part 2 immensely. I never got to see Nirvana live, because (of course) I thought there would be time. Kurt and I are the same age and I adored him (and the band) for sticking up for the women in our generation. Watching these videos somehow helps to keep him 'alive'.
Even better the second time!❤
I like that you didn't just talk about the usual but added little anecdotes to the songs they played.
You should, seeing how I ran those by you before I even made the video lol
Nice dude, you put a lot of work into this. Lots of info I've never heard before.
Btw this deserves at least 100,000 more views! I wonder if the algo is stifling the channel for some reason.
Great review. I think you have a unique aptitude for really understanding art and you are the correct age to put this across correctly.
Did a great job. The Alice N Chains was the first video I ever watch of yours and have become a dedicated fan ever since. Maybe I have some nostalgia for that AnC video but I still think it’s the best one you have ever done
ASF I gotta give it to ya man you do have some writing skill.
You're so good at writing this kind of emotionally ridden reviews. Full of interesting details. You really know how to create the right atmosphere. Proud of you!
P.S. i may be wrong cause English isn't my first language, but I've always thought the Serve the Servants line was "self-appointed judges judge, more than they absolve".
I replied to you under someone else's comment by accident, lol.I basically agreed on everything u wrote n said your so incredible for knowing 2 languages..your English is great luv...
@@kimberlymisfit3544. Thanks Kimberly ❤. I have to come clean and say that, although I was born and bred in Italy, I've lived in the UK for over 20 years. But I'll take your compliment any day 😊🤗!
Hope you have a great day, filled with music you love. See you soon in the comment section. 💖
You absolutely smashed this Charlie. Like out of the park - brilliant!
My personal all time favorite live show.
That’s amazing man you got him the brushes and he just went out and played with them. That’s cool. 😊
Absolutely beautiful review of Unplugged, of Nirvana, of Kurt. I wish Netflix would pick this up. I’m serious! You did an amazing job here Charlie! ❤
I wish some rich person would give me a 100,000 dollar loan so I could make a real documentary lol
@@AmericanSpyFox You would be excellent at it! ❤️
@@lisasmith7066 thank you so much!
@@AmericanSpyFox 🙏💕💕
I've been around for a while and seen you in a few different hairstyles since subbing - with profound respect, I think you'd look so awesome with a Josh Homme-style rockabilly quiff \ pomodoro hair, man!
Keep up the epic work on Nirvana et al, your momentum is building and hard work is slowly paying off and more people are waking up to both the existence of your channel and the contentious still-unresolved issue around Kurt's passing at large.
Be safe brother many blessings
ps Devin Townsend can scream in key 😀
I'd rock a Pompadore lol
I did finally get a decent sponsor, so that's cool.
@@AmericanSpyFox Congrats!
Love this style of video, and would definitely love more like it if you have topics that fit this style.
You got it!
This is sooooo good! We want more! We want more!!!😂😂😂
Im going to bea tired mf at work tomorrow 😵💫 ive been waitin this video I had to stay up late to watch right away ! Now im going to be keeping myself wondering about what you have in store for part two , this was great !!!
24:18, don't we all? That was part of Kurt's magic to connect with us ❤ thanks, Charles
This is real quality! Just lovely ☺️ thankyou!☮️🌏
Brushes are metal. Rods are the wooden sticks.
Thank you for this brilliant really feel the love most important ❤❤❤😢
I LOVE this channel
Awesome video. Thanks
I loved this ❤
Great work Charles, thank you. You are kind of like Kurt in that you have worked and worked at the craft of scriptwriting and video making. Like other great artists, you have learned you can go over the same subject and material more than once, in different ways, all the time honing your skills and telling stories in better and better ways.
Did you know that artist Edvard Munch produced multiple versions of The Scream? Same kind of dedication to doing something over and over to get it right.
Very interesting. This is the shrunk down version. I think I wrote it 5x. The editing process is so tedious that I always end up taking the easiest route. I wish I had some help. I'm always left knowing I could've done better & that's not a good feeling to be carrying around. I'm glad you enjoyed it, though.
This really is one of the most epic performances of my lifetime... #1 Queen at live aid #2 This one
Heard you said this did not do well to your estimates. I just want to say that I enjoyed this video VERY much.
They say there's multiple parallel universes where other versions of us exist. If that's true it's pretty shitty we're in the one that Kurt died in 94.
I ponder all the time what it would've been like if he had not died early.
Excellent job Charles! Can't wait for part 2.
Wonderful Review! 😁😁😁
2:37 Notice how they all turned to look at the guy filming them. Today in age, you can"t go to the gym without seeing a camera in your face. Great Vid ASF.
I hope theres going to be a continuence to this?? BTW Love your natual hair color!! 😊👍❤️
Amazing 🎉Congratulations 🎉
Nirvana's Mtv Unplugged is the greatest live album ever recorded and released. Period.
Loved that Charlie. Well tokd, held the inerest. Kurt nailed that. I loved A.I.C's one too but wish Layne had been in better health. Kurt looks good in his one. Sounds it and nailed it.
THANK YOU
Charlie this is Fantastic. I love that You point out about the lack of rehearsal and the basic lack of trust shown in the band. Nothing oushes People further than the doubt of others. Kurt looked and sounded Fantastic. I always find that is what tips Me over on to Why This one is slightly better than A.I.C.'s one. Poor Layne was a lot worse at this point health wise than Kurt. I loved Your build Up Here on to the doubts put on and obviusly very aware off by Kurt.
