'Storm of the Light's Bane' is an overwhelming album. If one takes Harmonic minor to make a black metal album, trust me it's not possible to make anything at least a little better than Dissection's work.
Wrong Somberlin is perfect..... Sorry I know music is subjective but not with this. Somberlin is true musical perfection. Storm of the Lights bane is close but rougher for sure
reinkaos gets dogged on because it's different and no-life elitists cant accept that so they just say that it sounds like "pop" even though it's a great album, Jon's genius really shines in it and ye can't deny it!
I think Reinkaos is the best. I did never listen to it back in the days because everyone hated it, and the first two did not really fit my taste back in the 90's. But then I did listen to Reinkaos a few years ago and got hooked on Dissection and came back to the first albums also.
I can see why people don’t like Reinkaos tbh. It is very different from the first two and is more on the melodic death metal side. I love it though, each song is like a ritual in song form.
I feel like reinkaos is the unsung hero of modern black metal. Reinkaos predicted what black metal would be in ten to fifteen years later. Incredible vision on Jon's part.
I love reinkaos. The songs are spiritual, inspiring, melodic but very satanic at the same time. A combo that is very difficult to pull off. By Satanic I mean in an educated and very sophisticated way rather than a stroppy teen in rebellion way like many "satanic bands" are. However, I feel the mix of the album let's it down quite badly. Hard to describe but it has a very digital over high end sound, bass is hard to hear and the drums particularly on Starless Aeon sound really terrible. Overall it lacks the atmosphere of SOTLB and Somberlain. Oddly enough, I actaully prefer the sound of the "Hall recordings" record which is a bootlegged demo tape of the reinkaos songs produced by Jon when he was in prison. The sound is more aligned to old Dissection even though all the drums are programmed. I always tell Reinkaos haters to listen to that before jumping to conclusions because it really is an epic record. ua-cam.com/video/2WbD-Ci-O6Y/v-deo.html
BTW you really need to check the band Necrophobic, another great Swedish Blackened Death Metal band. The song "Pesta" has a very cool video and the riffs are great. BWAHAHAHAHA!
Dissection is the pinnacle of black metal evolution for me. They're not too old school, nor too modern, they're something in between. And they always kept their music interesting, exciting, true to their heavy and thrash metal roots. And their music is beautifully sad. SAD, S A D D E S T otherworldly BM riffing out there, and beautifully melodic and horrifyingly brutal and fierce. Natural minor tremolo riffs and harmonies make you think about the frailty of being, and flat fifths, crucial power chords progressions, chromatic elements here and there can make you go for a walk in the forest on a cold autumn evening and never return from there...

One of the only black metal bands I can fully get on board with, I think it's because they draw influence from the Scandinavian melo death scene, with them being a Swedish band, it's like they've blended that with the black metal and it makes for a cool interesting dynamic there, it adds a uniqueness to there particular sound, they aren't afraid to draw the songs back and allow for abit of breathing room, Super cool band, it's ashame they only have the 3 albums, but yet again with black metal there band have a very interesting and brutal backstory that cut them down in there prime

Best band to ever do it. I believe that this song and Where Dead Angel's Lie are the greatest things heavy metal has ever produced. Really cool to see you break this song down. Thank you.
Def great melodic black metal. Jon was def an over the edge type of guy. Don’t support everything he did or stood for but he definitely is a great musician. If your new to dissection do a little research on the band and Jon specifically. He live a tragic life for sure.
Dissection is amazing, but if you love classical music so much you have to also Check out Emperor, a must see. Modern day they consistently headline big metal festivals and for good reason. Please do a watch of Live at Wacken and Live Emperial Dvd.
Dissection was a Milestone. Combine melodic with real straight and heavy highspeed picking riffs that hop to acoustic parts and back blast. There is so much happening in just a short song. That amount of Riffs, melodies, and Ideas would last for a whole Career for others.
Shred, idk if you’ve heard of the band Susperia, but they’re melodic blackened thrash and it would be killer if you’d check them out. Their album Predominance is a must. I Am Pain, or Blood on My Hands is where id start
Dissection all the way of the modern BM for me personally. Dissection was the first BM band I discovered when I first listened to storm of the light's bane 22 years ago. I hold all 3 albums equally high as those are just that good in my ears.
Dissection is mighty. Emperor is as well. Also Tsjuder, Craft, Marduk, Setherial, Satyricon, Blut Aus Nord, Sacramentum, Funeral Mist, Gorgoroth, Deathspell Omega, Mork, Necrophobic, Ragnarok, Rotting Christ...just to name a few 😁
Dissection Ruled !!! When Jon was alive, before his suicide. I recommend listening to their song on piano, keyboard, violon. Very very deep and soothing.
The genre is Anti Cosmic Metal of Death. Black Metal is something else. But nothing serious. Except Dissection, it's dead serious. I enjoy your videos, even though I'm not even a musician. You make metal-world clisches funny and you seem like an effortless entertainer. I had to comment because this song Is one of the great metal operas of all time. Shred, I have that same skull mug! Thing kicks ass
Best band to ever do it. I believe that this song and Where Dead Angel's Lie are the greatest things heavy metal has ever produced. Really cool to see you break this song down. Thank you.
IIRC Dissection were actually fans of At The Gates. Heck, Tomas Lindberg considers them a part of the Gothenburg scene.
their final song in their final album is truly..... foreshadowing. damn.
Their music is very good! Really love it has those melodic theme to incorporate the black metal music.
Def great melodic black metal. Jon was def an over the edge type of guy. Don’t support everything he did or stood for but he definitely is a great musician. If your new to dissection do a little research on the band and Jon specifically. He live a tragic life for sure.
he lived just as he wanted to.
Dissection is a different untamed animal. Absolutely brutal and dark. Love it
storm of the light's bane is my favourite album ever
There is also a really good live video for their song The somberlain back in the 90's. Would be great if you could do a video about it
Dissection is amazing, but if you love classical music so much you have to also Check out Emperor, a must see. Modern day they consistently headline big metal festivals and for good reason. Please do a watch of Live at Wacken and Live Emperial Dvd.
one of the best albums ever made
Very, very good.. But waiting for Watain's music dissected by Shred
De Mysteriis + Dissection = Watain & that's coming from a Watain fan
He should definitely check them out after seeing Dissection.
Darkthrone. Always Darkthrone.
For the next thousand years
Forever DarkThrone
Dissection was a Milestone. Combine melodic with real straight and heavy highspeed picking riffs that hop to acoustic parts and back blast. There is so much happening in just a short song. That amount of Riffs, melodies, and Ideas would last for a whole Career for others.
Yes it was it is and will be till end off the days and beyond!
Shred, idk if you’ve heard of the band Susperia, but they’re melodic blackened thrash and it would be killer if you’d check them out. Their album Predominance is a must. I Am Pain, or Blood on My Hands is where id start
I'm waiting for the day when shred reflects on kalmahs music
Try "ascension" by "Regarde les hommes tomber", it's my favorite recent black metal album ("au bord du gouffre" is amazing)
Another band with a similar sound that’s relatively new is The Spirit. Their album Cosmic Terror is great!
THE SPIRIT
CONDRA
VARGRAV
THANKS ME LATER hahahah HAIL
Dissection all the way of the modern BM for me personally. Dissection was the first BM band I discovered when I first listened to storm of the light's bane 22 years ago. I hold all 3 albums equally high as those are just that good in my ears.
Dissection somberlain album is a must review especially where dead angel lie, the somberlain, a Lan forlorn, crimson towers
you really need to read the storie about this dude..jon
My favorite band of all time
I think a great song for you to do a video for would be either, Maha Kali or Black Dragon off of Dissections last album REINKAOS!
Dissection is mighty.
Emperor is as well.
Also Tsjuder, Craft, Marduk, Setherial, Satyricon, Blut Aus Nord, Sacramentum, Funeral Mist, Gorgoroth, Deathspell Omega, Mork, Necrophobic, Ragnarok, Rotting Christ...just to name a few 😁
amesoeurs?
Dissection is not a modern band. "Storm of the Light's Bane" is a classical album.
The Somberlain,Black Dragon and Maha kali are my Favs
Dissection-Maha kali
Extremely surprised you’d never heard of them prior.
The section that starts at three minutes, holy shit. I find no words. Just divine music and metal madness. Keep up the good work.
YES
Imo and only because it's my favorite two BM acts, Watain carries the flag these days and Dissection did it back in the 90's.
Dissection is one my favorite bands, Storm Of the lights Bane is one of the best Metal albums of all time, all of their material was great.
"kekht Arakh" really stands out in the modern black metal scene!
Behind every good Swedish metal bands stands the genius of Dan Swano.
I agree.
Celtic Frost
\;;/😈\;;/
A dying God coming into Human Flesh
I'd call it Doom metal honestly
monotheist was really evil sounding.
