Beautiful. I mentioned to someone I wanted to make this and she said I would get bored. I just want a simple stitch to relax not think sometimes repeat stitches are needed.
I JUST LOVE THIS!!! Sometimes, don’t you think simple is most beautiful? And I’m also thinking the color BUTTERCUP would look amazing! Thank you for your beautiful work, Amanda! ♥️💐
I like your clear, concise, yet calm way of explaining things! My 12 year old daughter is following this tutorial to crochet a baby blanket for one of her teachers, who is expecting. So far, it's going well. 😊 Thank you!
You are my favorite channel. This is a excellent pattern for a beginner like myself. I can’t thank you enough for showing where to place my stitch markers. This really helps. 🌻
Aw thank you! That really means a lot to me! A lot of people really like my stitch marker suggestion, so I will try and keep up with saying that in each of my tutorials. If you have any other beginner-friendly pattern suggestions you would like to see, please let me know and I'll see what I can do. Have a great day and happy crocheting :)

I just love your tutorials! Very simple and concise…trying to get my daughter to start crocheting and your videos will help so much! Love the simple stitches!!!
@amanda You Did it........the half DC stitch for an entire blanket. I Hope the Lady that was asking if you had a HDC or DC stitch blanket see's this tutorial. HDC is my favorite stitch as a beginner. I'm definetely adding this to my pattern journal. I'm still working on your " Petals " blanket. i felt like so many things you said in this video were questions I have been asking you about recently. Your stitch marker tip on the first stitch and the last stitch is game changing for me. @roselikescrochet has some really cute stitch markers in her Etsy shop.
It’s such a pretty stitch and super easy for beginners! I hope you give this a try in the future. Can’t wait to see how your petals blanket turns out! Thanks for the recommendation, I’ll have to check her shop out 😊 glad my stitch marker tip helps with those edges 😉
Thanks so much. You explain it very well. The HDC stitch blanket is good for the Wool Ease Fair Isle yarn, as the yarn colors make the "Fair Isle" effect so plain stitches are better for it.
this is such a helpful tutorial! im making my first blanket, 90” width but not sure how long im gonna make it. i was trying to find a beginner level stitch since i only know like 3 (sc, dc, hdc) and was debating between a dc or hdc for it. this made up my mind! im excited to get started, thank you so much!
Such a great tutorial! You explained everything thoroughly and gave plenty of examples to help! I do have a question: how do you keep your chain from curving? Is it when you do your second row that you need to choose the same side of the chain each time? Thank you so much!
If your chain is curving, your tension might be too tight. I would suggest going up a hook size for the chain and switching back to the original hook for the remainder of the pattern. Sometimes mine curves a little depending on the stitch, so I just pull both ends to straighten it out a little. I hope that helps!
Hi there, I am following your pattern and it seems like my blanket is getting shorter with every row. I am starting each row in the 2nd stitch and I feel like I should be going into the first (like I would with a dish cloth). I looked back at your directions again and again to make sure I had it right but I think its getting shorter. I am new to this so maybe I just need to continue and see it through and it will be fine....
It sounds like you’re skipping a stitch. I highly recommend putting a stitch marker in the very first stitch you made in the row and in the very last stitch of the row. That will help to keep your ends straight. 😊
@@AmandaCrochetsok im starting over and got stitch markers lol it was getting out of control! LOL one more question, when I turn my work, I always skip that first stitch right? Go into the second?
It was nice to have Amanda completely go through the entire pattern. Show it from beginning to end and not just show you the stitch in a couple rows. I think that her showing how you went under the chain. That's what was bugging me with all the videos. I could never tell what they were doing so thank you for clearing that up. Amanda
I just learned about putting a stitch in the turning chain.zI didn't do it in my sample but i will now.I want to apologize for the typing errors.Even though i check they still slip through.❤😊
Hello! Do you mean your chain is starting to become a little rounded? If so, it's possible your chain is too tight. I suggest going up a hook size and trying to keep your chain a little more loose. If you're making a few rows, this could mean your stitches are too tight, or you're missing/adding too many stitches to your blanket. Again, I would try and keep your stitches a little more loose. Hope that helps!
Amanda, I seem to keep coming back to you time and again. I love your channel. I have a question about the HDC stitch. How can there be so many variations on a stitch. Start in 3 chain, turn work chain 2. Others say start in 1st chain, turn work chain 1. I'm at a loss. I love the HDC but notice I always seem to have an issue with losing a stitch. Thank you!
I’m so glad you keep coming back! Thanks for your support! It’s all personal preference, as I even notice variations on stitches. It’s all what you learn, so I’m just teaching others how I learned. As far as losing stitches, I suggest putting a stitch marker in the very first and very last stitch of each row and move them up after each row. That should help keep track of things.
You said at the beginning of your tutorial that we should use a stitch marker. It would really have been great if you would have actually put a stitch marker at the beginning and the end saying it is one thing and doing it is another I really have a hard time keeping my edges straight, but I’m just not quite sure where to put the stitch marker now I’m still not sure. Thank you.
After making your very first stitch of the row, you will place a stitch marker into that stitch. After making your last stitch of the row, place a stitch marker into that stitch. As you make more rows, you’ll move your stitch marker up one row. I will try and show stitch markers in future videos 😊

Thanks for your beautiful video and instructions. I'm almost finished. Should I add a border, and if so, what kind of border. But it's beautiful with or without one. Pls reply asap as this is for an elderly person on her last days. Thanks.
Just the video I need :) I’m a beginner and want to make my friend a baby blanket as a gift. How long did it take to make this 35x35 inch blanket? I just want to get an idea for how much time I’ll need to make it
That sounds like a great idea! It would depend on how fast you can crochet and how much time you have to do so. I can usually complete baby blankets in about a week. Hope that helps!
Yes, you will need more skeins for a larger blanket. Depending on how big you want your blanket to be, you may need 5 skeins. I always overbuy just in case 🧶
I'm curious, the 108 chains that you made... Are you creating the side of the blanket or the top or the bottom? I guess another way to ask this is, when you make the 108 chains is that a row you have created or a column? That would be helpful for me in knowing when I'm choosing the size, what it is I'm judging on.
Hey I have a question. So I’m doing a chain of 25 just to keep it simple and for some reason on row 3 it goes to 23 even with skipping the first chain and chaining 2 at the end and I don’t know why. Like it’s 24 on row 1 and 2 but for 3 it keeps going to 23 with skipping the first and doing the chain 2 for the end
Do you do a half double crochet into the end of the chain 2 of each row because it stays at 23 for row 3 but I don’t do that for the 2 beginning rows so I don’t know what to do.
For this pattern, you will repeating Row 2 over and over again for the pattern. I highly suggest getting a stitch marker and putting it in the very first and very last stitch of each row. That way you don't lose your stitches and your ends will come out straight. I hope that helps!
For a single crochet blanket, it would depend on how big you make it. I would buy an extra skein just to be safe. If you were to make it the same size as this blanket, maybe 6 skeins?
Let me clarify: I'm trying to crochet a blanket based on this video and another one. My edges are starting to be diagonal and not straight. I counted stitches and used stitch markers and it is becoming a...hmm, what's the shape again? Trapezoid? I don't remember but at this rate, if I keep going to how long it is supposed to be, it is going to be a triangle. 😂 I'm not doing something right and I can't figure it out. Please, send help. 😅
It's possible your missing a stitch here and there? I would recommend using a stitch marker for the very first stitch and the very last stitch of each row. This should help keep your edges straight. Remember, you will work a half double crochet into the top of the chain at the beginning of each row. I hope that helps! :)
I mention the hook size and size of the blanket in the video. Check for the blanket size at the 1:11 mark and the materials needed around the 2:00 mark. You can also click on the written pattern in the link below the video. Hope that helps!
It depends on how big you want your blanket to be. If you want your blanket to be the same size as mine in the video, you will need to make 102 chains.

Does the turning chain count as a stich you crochet in before making another turning chain?
Yes it does!
Why do I have three loops to go under when I’m stitching?
To make a half double crochet, you should have three loops on your hook before finishing up the stitch.
Hi Amanda could we skip 1 stitch between HDC’s to open it up a bit more
And still work out?
You can always try it out and see if you like the look of it 😊
So will I need more than 3 skeins of yarn if I’m making an adult blanket and not a baby blanket? An idea how many I’ll need?
