My parents loved and liked me as a kid, but now that I'm older and made some poor choices in life, I sometimes feel like they are simply loving me out of family obligation. Consequently, I have struggled to imagine God doing anything but that .. 'I did what I needed to do for my glory, but there is nothing about you that I have any 'phileo' (sp?) affection for.'
I’ve asked this question as well. I’ve been a Christian for about a decade and my experience has consistently been that of William Cowper, whom I know John piper has written about as well. Dr pipers excellent writing and teaching on unconditional election and justification by faith alone have given me some momentary peace at some point, but it’s very fleeting. Gods love has no existential significance for me beyond a purely formal principle. The harder I’ve pursued gods love, the more nihilistic and miserable I’ve become.
The flesh wants to see before it believes but in God's Kingdom we have to believe before we can see. And our belief has to be based on God's Word, not on anything else, such as our feelings or ability to reason. Therefore immerse yourself in God's Word, because faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God. I struggled most of my life to believe God loved me and I'm sixty years old now. I first believed the gospel when I was 18 but that belief was immediately followed by intense fear that it was for everyone else in the world except me. How could God possibly love me when no one else did, not even my parents? By the same token I could not believe that He would save me and began a desperate search for God's acceptance. From my life's experience, there is only one way to believe and experience God's love and that is by His Spirit through His Word implanted in your heart. So hide God's Word in your heart about His love and the good news, praying and asking God to open the eyes of your understanding and make it real to you. Seek and keep on seeking and you will find. Ask and keep on asking and you will receive.
It seems the point is being missed ! !. “if there’s any part of our lives that is imperfect, that’s what others are going to pick up on and complain about. .....and they’re going to be displeased by it - and that’s especially true of God, people feel. We can never really be liked, only tolerated, because the focus is always on our shortcomings rather than our little successes. I want to say loud and clear, God is not like that. Let me say it again, God is not like that. God sees the incremental advances of our transformation by his Spirit and delights in them.” It seems some of these other posts aren’t quite getting what Pastor John is saying.
haha I think ur question is cute :) my 12 year old brother asked me the other day if God ever laughs, like at jokes. Seems kind of interesting to wonder about xD
God gave us the ten commandments so that we have the knowledge of sin. He revealed to man by the law how we should live before a Holy God. Now all stand guilty before God with no way to justify ourselves because of this knowledge. For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. No one can live up to the standard that God has set for us. We as sinners can never meet those requirements, but Jesus, being in the form of God and equal with God came in the righteousness of God, Being perfect in Holiness He fulfilled those requirements for us and willingly became the substitute for the wrath of the Father which was met to be poured out on us, the ones who could not fulfill the Father's standard of holiness. Jesus died in our place, taking our sin upon Himself. The Lord placed on Him the iniquity of us all. Then in three days Jesus rose from the grave by His own power, proving He was God in the flesh and that He had succeeded in paying our debt of sin. By Jesus paying our penalty in death He frees us from the sin that so easily ensnared us by giving us His righteousness, the Holy Spirit by which He overcome the sin of this world, but only to those who believe in Him and trust in His work of the cross. Its thanks to Christ's righteousness alone that believers can come to the throne of the Father with praise! Through the Father's plan Jesus has restored us to a proper relationship with the Him! Now we are Justified by Faith apart from the deeds of the law and are no longer called sinners, but SAINTS! It is the goodness of God that leads you to REPENTANCE!
Just the thought of God actually liking me more than just tolerating me is honestly too much for me to bear. I'd honestly have an easier time if He just tolerated me instead of this love that is beyond my understanding
You're having an identity crisis. You see yourself as outside of Christ yet struggling to be accepted. The truth is that you are inside of Christ with full sonship, married to, one with Jesus. And the best news is that you did not elevate yourself there and am not expected to maintain that elevation based on human frailties that you are now temporarily subject to. Rest in his elevation of you, not your own. BE saved by him and not by you.
GOD delights in a broken contrite heart. I find great comfort in the fact GOD is mindful of me

The dots in the background of this video really bother me because they don't all connect to one another. This must be what it's like to have OCD.
ThePhluff lol I think this same thing every time i watch one of these videos.
The other day pastor John did a sermon on over thinking, needless to say the dots animation didn't help.....
ThePhluff: 😆. 😁. 😂. 😜
Doesn't bother me makes me think of geometry
Amazing! Thank you.
Gods word that he sends to the earth will not return to Him void
When God loves, it means He likes lor!
We’re sinners going to hell but Jesus died so you can have eternal life. Repent and trust in Him only as your savior (not on being a good person)
Read the song of Solomon, the book in the bible that tells the bride of Christ how she is loved by her beloved. 😋😋😋

Ask Pete Green....Oh, Well.
Where in the bible the complete story that God repent why they created man???
During the times of Noah I think, when man thought of nothing but evil.
