This was very helpful to me because like what John Piper said, adults ask the same question. Jesus said we are to become like children. God Bless this child who wrote in. God needed me to hear this. I heard God talking to me through Pastor John. In a very sweet and tender paternal way. I can delight that God loves me a little easier now. I struggle a lot with the feeling I am a disappointment to Him.
so all the ways he described of testing ourselves were true until he mentioned the one about wanting to be around brothers Christ and to spend more time with fellow believers. I'm not sure why but I fail that test. It's not that I dislike them, I do love them as my brothers and sisters, but I do not much enjoy spending free time with people at church, after church, etc. And I don't find them showing particular interest in spending time with me. It's like we all have our own lives outside of church, separately. I have several non christian friends, and it is my hope that somehow they show an interest in my faith, or that somehow they see changes in me that make them question my faith and become interested in knowing more. So I wonder what it means when I pass the other tests but not the last one, so much.
@calkid31 I totally see where you are coming from I often feel like that as well, the truth is that we are to love others as our selves and that means making an effort to connect with them, taking an interest first, praying for them and helping them in anything they may need. Even if they dont reciprocate that back to you, we are to live a life of serving others.The bible is clear about the importance of having a strong fellowship with the body of Christ his church, the devil loves to see dissension in the church and weak relationships that don't challenge us and keep us accountable. " just like iron sharpens iron" we encourage one another in the word. Lastly I would caution you to becareful to have world friendships, 1 Corinthians 15:33 " do not be deceived, bad company ruins bad morals" pray that God would help you take an interest in your church friends and to help you discern and be wise about what other friendships you keep. I tell you from experience, you never realize how subtly you change until you catch yourself doing something or saying something or laughing at something that isn't appropriate. Be very careful. I sympathize with you knowing that such principles are not always felt personally. But i have found assurance in knowing that i have compassion toward others as an overflow of God's love for me, not to say i always feel love for others; but rather that i can always trust He cares for me despite my personal lack in capacity to continually show that love.

That last point was so helpful. I find I get so self-focused that I worry about my standing instead of just losing myself in Christ.
