The Kalashnikov has become my favorite knife. I absolutely love its grip and the fact that is an auto. It is an awesome EDC and tactical knife. You just can't beat the price for the quality.
One of the best knives ever I have mine for many years, have cut thousands of boxes carve wood from it cut vegetable cut meat you name, still works fine still fires really good have sharpen it many many times, Just like the name of the knife it is a robust and reliable you throw it in a river for 2 years and you will come back and it's still going to work
I;m not a knife snob, so IMHO, these are the absolutely best autos for me. I have a dozen or so and never any issues. Don't get me wrong, I can see an appreciate the finer points of more expensive knives. I just don't care to spend the money on them.
JLQKnives Actually it did, very much. In fact, as you say in your video, turns out to be fun. I did a ferric chloride treatment and stonewash in my knife. It looks badass now. Keep doing useful videos!
I have a Desert Warrior tanto in D2. It's a really nice knife. I love carrying it but the edge leaves a lot to be desired. Mine has no side to side play but there is some up and down. I have a SOG Flash AT-XR. The assist spring of that looks like the coil spring on this one. Sad thing is the part of the spring that attaches to the liner broke. I really loved that knife. I used to carry it a lot.
So I have used switchblades for a long time (as I could carry them when civilians can't). There are two ways to put a button lock back together without the button giving you issue during reassembly. The first is to put a VERY small amount of grease on one end of the spring, then install into the button lock and push slightly. The grease will keep it as one assembly when reinstalling into the handles, thereby allowing you to keep everything centered. The second way (typically used by factories) is to take a strong magnet to one end of the spring and strop it along the magnet like you are sharpening it. This magnetizes the end of the spring temporarily. You then install that portion of the spring into the button and they magnetize together. This holds them as one assembly long enough for you to reassemble. Should you need to take it apart again try one of those two methods. I believe you'll find they make life much simpler. These are the methods I've used on my automatic knives when I've needed to give them maintenance in the field.
It's funny, Kalashnikovs are called 3rd party conversions, but they're clearly designed to be autos. I'm not sure what they're "supposed to be" converted from, a flipper or assisted, but Boker is prolly just getting around a law or a tarrif of some kind. I just bought a Kalashnikov Sub in D2 steel, which I love so much, I gave my mini to my nephew as his first knife. Oh, and 2 FYIs... Both my Bokers had a tad of side to side play, and I think Bladeops.com has new springs, but they may only be for the mini and sub Kalashnikovs, not sure. They come in qty 2, which I bought with my Sub.
i just got the sub from bladeops.com in s30v steel. it's my 1st auto... i'm a lefty & i HATE the clip!! i don't mind deploying with my index finger, but that clip is annoying. it's too shiny ( would've prefered satin or stonewashed), i can't move it to the other side, & it shimmies back & forth... might take it off all together. that's why i'm watching this video. to see if i can take the clip off without taking the entire thing apart.
Just picked up a couple Sub Kalashnikov’s in S30v and one of them does not fully lock up. Came here to see if it’s worth the effort to fix myself vs sending it back because I hate shipping stuff lol
JLQKnives I just emailed the company about it because if I mess it up, it makes it hard to return lol I also noticed the grind is VERY uneven, which I can fix because I just bought a KME but I still hate when you buy a brand new knife and have to work on it. Other than that, I can see myself loving this little thing, once those issues are resolved.
my knife is about 2 hours old, and for some reason the fire button is hard to press, and when the knife deploys, it’s not as snappy, and sometimes doesn’t even lock after it deploys. any ideas ? :(
I got one as a birthday present had it about 3 days and took it apart just to check it out it was a little challenging to put back together took 2 trys lining up everything but no real problem I just wanted to see if there were any washers used in it and the milled out side looked good.mine didn't have any washers in it no blade play either my spring is black also mine came from GPK in Troy Illinois they are online dealer also
Thanks for this video. I just purchased 2 Kalashnikovs - a Desert Warrior lefty and Warhawk righty - because the don't make a Warhawk lefty. I want to put he Warhawk blade, hardware, button, and clip on the Desert warrior handle. Do you think this will work?
What tool do you use to tighten down the blade? I bought one of the mini kala’s and it has a slight wiggle. Don’t really want to ship it back, but it would be nice to get it right.
Todd Clampffer oh for sure! Knives are so much fun, watch out, addiction is coming :) I have a Holt Specter in my pocket...never thought I would have a $1200 knife haha
I just bought the mamba with my name engraved on it and what not. And I promise you it will go in my pocket and be scratched on day one. What's up with your knives not being used?

Agreed!
Did you buy it with the better quality steel or the standard?

Thx to your video I fixed my boker knife that’s been sitting for about 6 months. Back to work she goes thx
Awesome! Glad it helped
Saved your video incase I ever need to take mine apart, over three years with no issues.
I tried to take the pocket clip off
It messed up the whole spring system
Thank you, I needed to know how to put a plunge lock back together
Glad to help!!
Very useful video... I’ll customise my Kalashnikov with confidence
Awesome! Glad it helped.

Thanx for video as I just got the mini in and ordered springs but I did take apart. You need an extra hand or 2 lol. Take care.

Thanks for the info! I need to look into those springs.

Good luck! Mine still works great, it’s in the pocket right now. Hope you gets yours tuned up!

Lost my spring when I first got it 🤦🏼♂️
I have a few high end autos/otfs. I really like these for a edc beater..
my knife is about 2 hours old, and for some reason the fire button is hard to press, and when the knife deploys, it’s not as snappy, and sometimes doesn’t even lock after it deploys. any ideas ? :(
You need a new coil spring. As do I because mine snapped while taking apart to clean. I am trying to find a supplier…
I took it apart, but now it won’t open like an automatic 😒 any ideas on what i did wrong? I tried tightening it and loosening it but that didn’t help
The spring break? Getting that torque spring back sucked. But if it doesn’t fire, has to be the spring?
JLQKnives I figured it out after like an hour. I didn’t put the spring into the little hole in the knife like the engineer I am 😂
@@uke4382 haha, glad you got it all figured out!
It's all in the spring placement.
The milling in mine was absolutely horrendous!
I got one as a birthday present had it about 3 days and took it apart just to check it out it was a little challenging to put back together took 2 trys lining up everything but no real problem I just wanted to see if there were any washers used in it and the milled out side looked good.mine didn't have any washers in it no blade play either my spring is black also mine came from GPK in Troy Illinois they are online dealer also
What size spring goes in the boker automatic. We tried a .50 spring and all it does is collapses instead
I’m sorry I don’t have a clue and I really don’t want to take it apart again 🤣
My spring snapped after 2 years while taking apart to clean. Anyone know where to get a new coil spring at for the kalashnikov?
Thanks for this video. I just purchased 2 Kalashnikovs - a Desert Warrior lefty and Warhawk righty - because the don't make a Warhawk lefty. I want to put he Warhawk blade, hardware, button, and clip on the Desert warrior handle. Do you think this will work?
Yes
HQ Charged me Full Price,, Damn...😮
Yeah so I dis-assembled it and now the button won’t work out for some reason.
I push the release and it won’t come back up
Also I can’t seem to disassemble it after putting lock tight. Any way to get it out?
Oh oh, I am trying to see what you did with mine but am not having that issue. Did you figure it out??
JLQKnives I still haven’t.
I tried swapping out the inner springs to see if it’s that.
I believe I have a fault kalashnikov
JLQKnives but what do you think I should do?
I don’t know Carlos...I’m sorry bud. I dont know if they have any policy. Best of luck.
What tool do you use to tighten down the blade? I bought one of the mini kala’s and it has a slight wiggle. Don’t really want to ship it back, but it would be nice to get it right.
I re watched, looked to be T9 torx.
JLQKnives thanks! New. Learning. Appreciate the help
Todd Clampffer oh for sure! Knives are so much fun, watch out, addiction is coming :) I have a Holt Specter in my pocket...never thought I would have a $1200 knife haha
Why do people make videos of things they have never done before? Like the dissasembly.
I hate when you say “ oh boy “ when your hands are off camera. 😊
he does not know how to reassemble it... skip it
I re assembled and mine works great. Took it apart many time bro. Skip you 😉
you made me cringe when reinstalling the blade 😳🤣✌😎👍
Me too!!! That wasn’t fun at all. First and last time I took it apart.
I just bought the mamba with my name engraved on it and what not. And I promise you it will go in my pocket and be scratched on day one. What's up with your knives not being used?
