I needed this, especially tip #1. I wore white jeans to a gathering with friends, and was overthinking it, feeling like i was too dressed up. (All my friends dress very casually). I felt fabulous and loved the outfit, but thought maybe it was too much. This video gave me the reassurance I needed. Thank you! Wonderful video, as always!
Such a good point about not keeping things that don't fit, especially if they make you feel bad about yourself. Only exception is if you're going through a phase of life where you know your size will fluctuate (during/after pregnancy or while recovering from injury or surgery, etc.), just put things that don't fit out of sight for the time being. It's so valuable to have stuff in different sizes stored away somewhere to help you feel like yourself while you figure out your new body and size.
One of the best fashion videos ever done in my opinion. Thank you so much Lydia. Love your style and so appreciate you sharing all these fantastic tips. ❤️
I am permanently fluctuating between sizes 32/34 and 36/38 for years, so there are times I am so happy I did keep the things, that were too small or too big. So it is different for everyone
I had a pair of pants I paid $100 for and they are black with the little glitter down the leg. They’re very special and I like to wear them at Christmas I gained weight and they were so tight so I just packed them away, and now I’ve lost weight and they are almost too loose, I’m so glad that I did not get rid of them because they are a classic.
You really got me on your comments today Lydia! I used to buy something nice and stick in my closet, saving it for best, and I didn't get my wear out of it. You talked about that before which got me out of that habit. It really has helped me enjoy my clothes more. ❤ Unless its an evening outfit for an upcoming special occasion, I wear my new things the next day!
🫶 from Portugal to my prefered, digital style creator, dear Lydia 🙂
I would also add, keep washing ,dry cleaning and mending a droopy hem etc up to date...... If you ask will that white jacket " do" before a dry cleaning.....the answer is no . Also a day polishing shoes and handbags should not be forgotten . Thanks Lydia.❤
Yes please do a video breaking down basics. Ready for spring wardrobe updating and I think the reason I always feel nothing to wear is due to a lack of the foundational basics. ❤
Thank you Lydia for this very useful video. I have always enjoyed this series. One point that resonated with me was keeping items for good. I am totally guilty of this 🫣and to the point that I have started selling these items. My closet is overflowing and I need to streamline my wardrobe.
I must *DISAGREE on getting rid of really great pants that don't quite fit.* I have always been someone who gets rid of things I'm not using. When I hit my 40's & couldn't fit into my size 2's I gave them away to friends who were that size. I'm talking thousands of dollars in jeans & trousers. $200-$300 each. NOW? I've been on a healthier lifestyle and dropped back down to a size 2, have kept those 20lbs off for almost 3 years. The friends I gave those items to claim to no longer have them, or in a couple instances they have not taken care of the items and they're ruined. I cannot bring myself to repurchase that level of luxury items again because it is just SO much money. The older you get the tighter you get with spending LOL. If I had simply stored those pants, I wouldn't be buying sale items and mediocre items.
If you have the space to store these items, go for it! This is what I do. My weight has been in flux as I go through menopause & find strategies that help me stay healthy, fit & at a good weight. My hips get very cranky if I go over certain weight so I’m motivated to keep it down when things start creeping up on the scale. Storing items that are a bit tight or a bit loose help me navigate the changes without having to re buy pieces that I love & know work well for my shape.
I agree with this. I have quite a few items that I have been unable to fit in over the past 5 years. However I have recently started to shift some accumulated weight and I can't tell you the satisfaction of trying something on that hasn't fit for years (or ever) and now fits just right! I'm so glad I hung onto those pieces. I also buy good quality, timeless and reasonably expensive items so it doesn't seem right to just discard things that are still new but don't fit (at the moment). I'd rather store them and then love them when they do fit. I have to say that my weight has always fluctuated so I know that eventually things will fit (in either direction). I have clothes in everything from size 8 to size 14 and eventually they will fit 😇
Hi Lydia! I love all your videos including this one! They are very useful in figuring out how to navigate clothes in my life. Your videos have helped me be and feel more confident with my wardrobe. I would love to see a dedicated pajamas video, with a round up of your recommendations because I am really struggling to find comfortable and affordable loungewear.
Yes!! I always wonder what to wear with wide leg pants. I usually wear chunky sneakers because I don't want "tiny feet" syndrome but what if I want to look a little dressier?
It depends on what you wear up top … But as a basic rule of thumb it’s best to juxtapose the shape of the trouser with something sleek and pointy…A pointy toe boot or a kitten heel would be the best option .. If you would like to wear sneakers then something that’s not chunky ….
Ηι Lydia! Please do a video about basics!!!!!! I wonder how do you manage to organise your wardrobe given the amount of clothes please do a video about that
Hi! Absolutely agree with absolutely everything! These pieces of advice might seem obvious, but in reality we do keep making the same mistakes over and over again and making our outfits ( and lives!) much more boring! Lydia, actually you already gave that advice about not saving things for the best somewhere a year ago. And it was truly groundbreaking to me! Previously I'd tended to wear decent clothing to work only. But for God's sake why? Why do we so often tend to try to impress other people, but not ourselves? To cut the long story short, I'm doing my best to change things now and, honestly, the past year has been so much more interesting and self- fulfilling 😊 The only aspect of my life that is still neglected in this respect is dog- walking :) But I'm already thinking about some comfy but nice ways to do it😊
Love your videos ❤I live in Canada where our winters can be brutally cold. I absolutely love fashion and getting dressed up but from November to April it’s not pleasant at all. My only goal is to not freeze as we walk our dog or just being out in general, and to not ruin my shoes or boots in the messy slush. Come May to October I love dressing up even if it’s to run errands as I feel I’ve missed so many months wearing the same old dark and heavy “uniform”. Please keep the awesome content coming, with ❤from Canada 😊
Fab video as always and some great tips - it's so easy to get stuck in the 'things for best' rut and I'm trying not to do that now - every day is best! I get really stuck on what to wear with a midi/maxi dress in the summer if it's a bit cooler. I'm so bored of going for my denim jacket, so a video on this would be great. Thank you!
I think I'm guilty of all of these styling mistakes at one point over the years. My biggest mistakes are purchasing tight clothes or uncomfortable clothes, neglecting the basics, and wearing the same thing over and over again. Still working on all of them! BUT building a great capsule wardrobe takes time too! So taking a bit of time to consider the pros and cons of each purchase item including costs per wear, whether it is seasonal basics to accessories such as handbags.
Dear Ms Lydia, So...tremendously useful! We need to be shaken up from lethargy when comes time to get dressed in the morning...to stay home! ;) Basics! Guilty! Not enough to make a change.... What is best especially when Spring is at the door! You are quintessence of wisdom to me when I look at your outfits! You are simply elegant and exquisite. Thank you Ms Lydia! helene :)
Thanks for the valuable video :) these three things: saving for the best, neglecting day to day wear and wearing the same thing are my worst mistakes I have to admit. I want a video about breaking down all the basics. By the way I was wondering how did you get into fashion?
I’m definitely interested in a breakdown of basics. I would also love to know who makes the best reasonably priced ones (that can also be purchased in the US) ❤️👍
Hi Lydia, I am 5 feet 2 inches and I live somewhere warm, please advise on how to style button-down shirts with trousers and make it look like it's put together and not sloppy 🙏🙏
This is so great. Is anyone not vibing with the newish background, or is it just me? I really find it distracting from the overall video. Much preferred the original space, and original style. Love you Lydia -- won't be going anywhere, but just wanted to offer that. Love the tips as always
Please could you do a vid on combining different shades of brown in clothing, shoes and accessories. Some shades seem warmer, some cooler, and how many shades look good etc. Difficult to get it unless i see it in Dos and Donts - thank you!
I love your channel! As a petite I’m having a tough time finding barrel jeans (like the COS which were too long and hemming would compromise the cool tapered hem). Can you assist with us petites?
Not Lydia but I’ve literally just looked at barrel leg jeans! I saw them on the Next website, FatFace barrel leg jeans, leg lengths short, regular and long. I don’t know if people on here wear FatFace but anyway, their jeans are the right shape 🙂
Hello Lydia always enjoy your videos.Yes Iam guilty of wearing clothes on repeat.Trying to break that habit.Lydia can I ask you please to do a video one day of skirts and stockings. Its still quite cool here in europe and I just would like some ideas with skirts .Thankyou for your time.As always you look lovely.Love from Northern Italy. ❤
I love your videos! I have learned so much from them! I have a bit of a specific request but where I live we have a spring rainy season, it basically rains for like a month and a half or two months until summer weather starts. I always need to wear rubber boots. I would love to see some suggestions of skinny leg options that are still trendy. With all of the pants and jeans being more wide legged I find it hard to dress for the season and still stay current. I tend to wear my black leggings on repeat and get so bored with them. Help!
Back in the 90's I had a friend who was the same size and we would split the cost of those statement pieces and share the item. Each of us would wear it mabye 2 times, 3 at the most and then it would be retired to a resale shop where we'd get at least 25% of the item's original value, as we took immaculate care of our clothes.
My two sisters and I did the same thing when we shared a home. It was great. None of us had much in disposable income, I was buying a superb pair of shoes every payday and we were paying rent. Later I was paying off mortgages so that limited me. Owning own home and nice big disposable income is a quite different situation.
I think some things are generation led. Im 54 and would never dream if going to asda without make up on and smart/casual clothes. But time after time, i see young women going shopping in pjs and slippers. Or crinkly un ironed clothes. Its like they have no pride in themselves.
Pls do video on what basics we need. You did a video last year about the lazy dresser--that's me. Hard to get out of the rut.
That’s me too 😅
Me too
Ditto! I want something easy, comfortable and stylish🙃
Welcome to the lazy dressers club. Don’t beat yourself it’s easy to get into the rut.
💯!!
Yes to a basics video! And another “which shoes with which jeans “(wide leg, straight, crop)would be great as well.
Yes!!
Yessss!
A basics video would be great. Thank you Lydia
If you look and feel fabulous, it’s not too much. Go for it!
Great advice on wearing a pulled together sweat suit at home. I am guilty of looking like a slob around the house & need to get away from this.
Tomorrow isn’t promised…Live today with the best you have available and are able…LOVE big & LIVE-
I too would love a basics breakdown! I appreciate this video, makes me stop and think about my wardrobe
Yes please do make a basics video! I'm so guilty of neglecting the basics and only buying evening wear.
Such a good point about not keeping things that don't fit, especially if they make you feel bad about yourself. One size up, one size down can work
One of the best fashion videos ever done in my opinion. Thank you so much Lydia. Love your style and so appreciate you sharing all these fantastic tips. ❤️
Amazing tips. I also recommend RENTING eveningwear, especially for ultra formal occasions.
I am permanently fluctuating between sizes 32/34 and 36/38 for years, so there are times I am so happy I did keep the things, that were too small or too big. So it is different for everyone
Thank you dear for taking us along. Can't wait what the KKUWAN queen picked up at Fendi
Such good insights! And yes, please do a video about having a great foundation of basics.
Waiting a video about the basics wardrobe ❤❤❤please
Please a video on basics!

So true about style being about day to day living. Thank you, Lydia!
I finally bought wide leg jeans. I always wore straight leg, but I love the look of the wide leg now.
I would also add, keep washing ,dry cleaning and mending a droopy hem etc up to date......
If you ask will that white jacket " do" before a dry cleaning.....the answer is no .
Also a day polishing shoes and handbags should not be forgotten .
Thanks Lydia.❤
A basics video breakdown would be so helpful!!!
Such good reminders! Thank you.

I always enjoy your videos, Lydia!

Thanks for the valuable video :) these three things: saving for the best, neglecting day to day wear and wearing the same thing are my worst mistakes I have to admit.
I want a video about breaking down all the basics. By the way I was wondering how did you get into fashion?
I have to say that occasionally I have slimmed into clothes that were previously too tight, so this rule is not universal.
Excellent video. Guilty of many of these

My pastor used to say if is stained on the outside is stained on the inside. That statement stuck to me so I try my best to keep it neat.

Ha! Years ago I did cook chimichangas in a silk blouse. Well, of course it got splashed with oil. Lesson learned 🤣🤣
😂
😂
I am struggling with point 1. I keep saving them for something special and not been wearing them.
Please do a video on basic pieces that we need.

Do you do 1 to 1 video consults?
Lydia, what do you think of polo shirt?
So it's OK to wear sweatsuits out to shops etc.
