    Thanks for this! How wide is your pad? Mine is 25" (Nemo Tensor Regular Wide), and I'm not sure if I should be forcing it through the loops on my new Astralite.

      Thanks for watching. I currently use a 25x78 big agnes pad and it works just fine. There is a lot of stretch and adjustability to the straps so it’s not even a struggle. Your tensor should work just fine!

    Hey I wanted to come back and say thanks for this review; I was looking for reviews of it and they're pretty few and far between out there; but your info about the updates is what made me spring for it in the end. And I love it! So thanks!

    Can you comment on your proportions and which size quilt you choose? My Alpinlite is 6’6” and trying to decide on which size Astralite to go for. It would also be good to get your observations about how the Astalite compares to the Alpinlite. They’re pretty close in comfort temps. Thanks.

    • @Everydaybackpacker
      @Everydaybackpacker  3 роки тому

      I am 6’1”. I have a alpinelite that is 6’6”. I chose the 6’4”. They are very close. I admittedly have not field tested the astralite yet, but temp wise they seem very similar, at least in my apartment lol.

    • @alexl8328
      @alexl8328 3 роки тому +1

      So if they’re very close in temp is it overkill to have both? My Alpinlite has the 3oz of overfill so its maybe closer to a 10-15F bag.

      @@alexl8328 I really think it just depends on your situation and needs. I went with the warmer top quilt because in the mountains it regularly gets down into the 20s at night. But I really wanted a system that was lighter. I do think that the alpinelite is warmer then they say. I’m sure there will be trips when I take the alpinelite over the astralite(man those names are confusing lol). Especially on shoulder trips when the temps can really plummet. So for my needs, no I don’t think having both is overkill. Cheers!

      Why haven’t WM updated their website to reflect the update?

    • @Everydaybackpacker
      @Everydaybackpacker  3 роки тому

      @@alexl8328 my guess is that part of it is due to the fact that it is a recent change and the other part is that it is an already small company that is working on minimum staffing due to COVID restrictions and they aren’t historically quick to make IT changes. They are a company that takes a bit of patience but is well worth it. Cheers!

    Great Review!
    What i don't understand about that Quilt is that is has only 10.5 oz (: 850+ goose down) Fill vs the EE Enigma's 15.46 oz (850 Fill Power duck down). Yet the WM has a way higher loft with 4.5" vs 2.5". So how does the WM does this? Ist this only because of the down beeing higher quality? Because there is a lot more Down in the EE.
    Hope you can shed some light into this.

    • @Everydaybackpacker
      @Everydaybackpacker  3 роки тому +1

      Glad you liked it. Goose down is a better quality down the duck down and has a better overall loft the duck down with much finer shaft to the feather. WM also uses a blend of 850 fill power and 900+ fill though they call it 850. Overall it’s been my experience that WM simply has a much higher quality compared to other brands I sell.

    It's kind of funny. The only reason I don't live in Montana is because of the wind and you ended up filming this whole UA-cam video in your apartment instead of the beautiful outdoors. I really enjoyed watching your video and it was informative thank you. I own the under quilt and need a top quilt I'm in Redding California and it's already 95° this year so I can save my money up all summer for that top quilt.

      @Everydaybackpacker  3 роки тому

      Yes, the wind can be crazy here, especially down in the valley and plains. But it’s worth it lol. I on the other hand would say no thank you to it already being that warm lol. Thanks for watching and keep hiking on!

      I’m glad you enjoyed it! They are a great company, I own two bags from them and we sell there products at the store I work at. They are a little backed up right now with high demand and issues with sourcing materials but no doubt they will catch up soon.

    Hey how's the quilt working out for you? Get a chance to try it outside at all?

    • @Everydaybackpacker
      @Everydaybackpacker  3 роки тому +1

      Yes! I used it over the weekend in temps down to 30. I stayed plenty warm and comfortable. It will take some getting used to with moving around and not getting everything out of wack but that will work out. Overall I am very happy.

    Thanks for sharing, if folks dig deep enough in the FAQ on western mountaineering site they have done and list EN testing on most of their bags.

      I work for a brick and mortar store, a local outfitter. Unfortunately Western Mountaineering is not currently accepting any special orders as they are behind on manufacturing. We do not know when they will start again but we can fulfill your order when that happens.

    Good review! I have 3 WM bags. My 3 season Antelope is 2.2 pds and rated at 20F. Its a geat bag. In grizzly country I never zip a bag up but use it like a quilt, its safer and more comfortable. My bighorn is rated at -30 and I've been out at -28 and it was warm. I have a 1pd WM bag that I can't remember the name of, its crap, rated at 40 F and I freeze at 50F. It was a waste of money and only good as a liner bag. I have a feathered friends bag I had custom made for the CDT in 87 and that bag is still a warm bag at 2 pds. You usually get what you pay for with bags. Take care of it and you can get a lifetime out of it. Thanks for the video.

      @@Everydaybackpacker backcountry had 2 in stock this morning now they are gone:-( i really like that they have a new shell and straps for the next itineration. Thanks, did it keep you warm? Only one trip? Get out there and test;-)

    • @Everydaybackpacker
      @Everydaybackpacker  3 роки тому

      Yeah, they are really hard to find due to the backlog WM has. It kept me very warm and comfortable. Unfortunately I had a terrible tent setup and was on an incline so I was constantly moving, but only had one or two times where it was an issue. I would love to get out more but the great catch 22 of working in the outdoor industry is that you don’t always get out as much as you would like, lol. Silly job.😂
