  • Ancient Persian infantry and cavalry from both the Achaemenid Dynasty and the Sassanid Dynasty. Those arts are made by Angus McBride and others. Some of them are also made by Persian artists. If you want to know about these two empires here's some information:
The Achemenid Persian Empire was the largest empire by geographical extent in ancient times; at the height of its power, the empire encompassed approximately 8 million km2. The empire was forged by Cyrus the Great, and spanned three continents: Asia, Africa and Europe. At its greatest extent, the empire included the modern territories of Iran, Afghanistan, Pakistan, parts of Central Asia, Asia Minor, Thrace and Macedonia, much of the Black Sea coastal regions, Iraq, northern Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Israel, Lebanon, Syria, and all significant population centers of ancient Egypt as far west as Libya. It is noted in western history as the foe of the Greek city states during the Greco-Persian Wars, for emancipation of slaves including the Jews from their Babylonian captivity, and for instituting the usage of official languages throughout its territories. The empire had a centralised, bureaucratic administration under the Emperor and a large professional army and civil service, inspiring similar developments in later empires
The Achaemenid Persian empire was invaded by Alexander III of Macedon, after which it collapsed and disintegrated in 330 BCE into what later became the Ptolemaic Kingdom and Seleucid Empire, in addition to other minor territories which gained independence at that time. Iranian rule was re-established in the region starting from the rise of Arsacids in middle of 3rd century BCE.
The Sassanid Empire (also spelled Sasanid Empire, Sassanian Empire, or Sasanian Empire), known to its inhabitants as Ērānshahr and Ērān, was the last pre-Islamic Persian Empire, ruled by the Sasanian Dynasty from 224 to 651. The Sassanid Empire, which succeeded the Parthian Empire, was recognized as one of the two main powers in Western Asia and Europe, alongside the Roman Empire and later the Byzantine Empire, for a period of more than 400 years.
The Empire was founded by Ardashir I, after the fall of the Arsacids and the defeat of the last Arsacid king, Artabanus IV. The Empire lasted until Yazdegerd III lost control of his empire in a series of invasions from the Arab Caliphate. During its existence, the Sassanid Empire encompassed all of today's Iran, Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria, the Caucasus (Armenia, Georgia, Azerbaijan and Dagestan), southwestern Central Asia, part of Turkey, certain coastal parts of the Arabian Peninsula, the Persian Gulf area, and areas of southwestern Pakistan. The name for the Sassanid Empire in Middle Persian is Eran Shahr which means Aryan Empire.
The Sassanid era, during Late Antiquity, is considered to have been one of Persia's/Iran's most important and influential historical periods. In many ways, the Sassanid period witnessed the peak of ancient Persian civilization, and constituted the last great Iranian empire before the Muslim conquest and the adoption of Islam. Persia influenced Roman civilization considerably during the Sassanid period, and the empires regarded one another as equals, as suggested in the letters written by the rulers of the two states addressing each other as "brother". The Sassanids' cultural influence extended far beyond the empire's territorial borders, reaching as far as Western Europe, Africa, China and India. It played a prominent role in the formation of both European and Asiatic medieval art.

In reality though, Sassanid cavalry was the best at the time, especially the hand picked Pushtigan. It is even said that the only way the Roman cavalry could counter with the Persian cavalry is by being deployed in greater numbers. Thanks.

The meaning of the word "IRAN" means the land of Aryans. All the Iranians especially Persians have Aryan genes in them even if they are mixed with other ethnic groups. And remember Germans are not pure Arians neither, since they have been also mixed with other ethnic groups in Europe for 3000 years especially with the wickings (Blue eye blond hair). The Aryans got separated in two groups, one went to today's Germany, and the other went to today's Iran.

the story of nativity, which is the message of Christian and practically the foundation of middle age Europe is taken from the Avestan story of Mithras. the similarity is shockingly noticeable. the Romans were hundreds of years behind the Sassanian society. Roman idea of fun was watching two men spill each others guts out. the Sassanians idea of fun was poetry, horse racing and wrestling. which is what the Europeans began to rediscover in the late middle ages.

the Scythians existed at the same times as the Sassanias. regardless, they are people of the same civilization. the Sassanian armies deployed cavalry that was unmatched. later Roman armies adopted similar cavalry to that of the Sassanians, the Sassanians adopted Roman siege capabilities. however no Roman army never defeated any Sassanian army in an open field battle. the Sassanians would run loops around Roman formations, firing arrows into them, legions could not charge cavalry.

yes persia and byzantium were superpowers of late antique, but my point is that sassanid government was unstable and full of discontents. first persians converted to islam were sassanid officers, who even've helped arabs to conquer whole persia; it doesnt depend only on weakness of wearied sassanid army but also on weakness of government and their politics. persia was easily defeated by arabs but rome could stand against them.

the system of knighthood was pioneered in Iran during the Sassanid empire. whether Europeans got it directly from the Sassanians or from the Romans doesn't matter, it still originates from the Sassanians not Romans or Byzantine. the Byzantines survived because they didn't have as much problems as the Sassanians. in the end they both fell to the same enemy. that was the Turks in the north and Arabs in south. the only thing that saved the Sassanians was geography not anything they did.

cataphracts were actually scythian origin, romans adopted it from sassanids but the roman versions were more effective, becuase they could cause their enemies more casualties than persian cataphracts. romans looked like neither north european nor middle easterns, they were brighter coparing to persians but they had often black-dark brown hair as they r described by some historians. but during of that periods there were large number of nordic auxillaries in roman armies.

Now everyone concludes that was inaccurate. It's more appropriate to call ourselves Indo-Euros. That didn't mean we were trying to be something we weren't.

first of all sassanian court was full of betrayal and internal strifes, for example from 628 to 632 AD there were more than ten persian kings coming to the throne. in persian society there were only some nobles and rich ones, who were allowed to studying. many of non-persians hated sassanid lordship, as the lakhmids betrayed them and were not loyal to them during rashidun expansions. persians were racist and disrespektfull to other nations.

Persians armies of the sassanid dynasty were some of the best of their time. few could stand up to them. they humiliated Roman armies who had extremely well organized armies. all armies eventually grow weak. the sassanid army was defeated because they occupied too many territories in Roman occupied Anatolia, this made them vulnerable to the nomadic tribes to the north and south, Turks and Arabs in particular. they were eventually occupied by those two people, as was Rome by the Germanic people.

But during 3000 to 2500 years Iranians/Persians got mixed with the local tribes, and those in Germany got mixed with wickings and other European tribes, that means since both of this groups got mixed over and over we can’t tell how a pure Aryan looks like.

Romans got invaded as well, maybe not by Arabs, but by Germans. the Roman government had all sorts of betrayal and coups, countless civil wars over power. the Christian faith originates from middle east not Italy, as i mentioned earlier, it has shocking similarities the Sassanian Mithraism religion. both civilizations lost in the end. but at the hight of their power, they made equally as significant contributions for future generations. the Sassanians were the Romans of middle east, no less.

just to clarify something, they were not the Persians, they were the Sassanians, and the Romans feared them. the Romans stood no chance against them in open fields. the Romans held the Sassanians only in cities and castles. the Romans had far bigger armies than he Sassanians because Romans levied troops from conquered people while the Persians only recruited from their warrior and knightly cast because it was considered an honour to be given the chance to fight for the kingdom.

funny how iranians of today think they are pure aryans after thousands of years of intermingling with arabs and turks... i'm of course NOT saying that there are no "pure" iranians or kurds left, just saying that it is rare, eventhough someone might have an aryan fenotype that individual still can be mixed

lol what was exact descended from sassanian government system? there is not even one similarity between sassanid dynasty and europe in middle ages. it is true that the civilizations've influenced each other but europe is not considerably influenced by persians. in sassanid empire there was only one person with absolut power empire, the emperor, while romans had during early periods senate and later after christianisation religion had major role in romam society and government.

my point is not, who is better or, who got more victory or who made tribute to whom. all i am try to say is have respect ,and stop calling Persian losers while they had their golden time and won many battles. as the romans did too i can not stop naming roman victories maybe 5 time Persian onces. but point is they both were good, I respect Rome at same time I demand u do same for my country and my people. Thank you for listening.

perhaps medieval Europe and the Islamic civilization was built by taking the best from both civilizations. the Islamic civilization took advantage of the achievements of the Sassanians as well.

yup my bad about Parthia, but they are 1 of the 3 builder tribes so that is why I called them Persians, cause i am from Iran we don't separate them. from ourself and where u think Islamic art and architect came from huh? it was sassanid design which been proven. and i can name numerous scientist which were Persian who invent and grow the science.

what do u mean with religious dissents? within of each empire or zaratustra against christianity? by the way there r more important reasons for fall of persia. for example 2 much intrigues within of sassanid court, disloyality of non-persians to persians because of their tyranny, even parthian hordes denied to support persia against arab invadors and lakhmids also hated sassanids!

the cataphract is Sassanid in origin. so is the system of knighthood. the Romans copied the Sassanians in that area. the Romans have also been westernised. you don't think Romans had blond hair and blue eyes do you? Romans were south Europeans, they look middle eastern in origin not north European. the history of Rome and Italy is been reconstructed for European people to understand, they weren't north European. the Byzantines were Greek/Romans like the Safavids who were Greek/Iranian people.

yes scythians were also iranic people but they lived before sassanid empire in eurasian steppes and there are evidences that scythians used kind of heavy cavalries, which were very similar to later cataphract, persians had adopted many things from them like scythian chariot, sagaris(pickaxe) and .... . anyway as i said roman cataphract were more effective than persian ones, persia was a great empire but their military power was not impressive!

They were the first Knights, even before that era. The reason they don't call them Knights is not historical or scientific, it is political. The british and other europeans have adopted Knights and knighthood to such a high degree that they even have orders and they have Knight as a title.
It offends them that they adopted it from the Persians (because they are racist and weak individuals who can't accept the truth) so they try to find loopholes to differentiate european knights and won't accept where it came from. I know, I studied history and had them as teachers and they even told me. You wont believe the level hypocrisy and racism that influences western historians and the lies being told by them. They even go as far as to steal and claim historical artifacts or inventions as their own if they can get away with it. One of the reasons I changed my studies.

i am not saying the Sassanians were perfect or better than the Romans, i am saying they were equal to them in every way if not better in some areas. they were both the super powers of their time. they only fell to the nomadic invaders because they exhausted each other and spent a lot of resources fighting each other leaving themselves vulnerable to attack. if it hadn't been for that, the Arabs and Turks would never have been able to beat them.

The main problem with the Iranians is that they think that Arabs hates them because they are persian, Arabs are not racist at all, and the history can prove that.
Arabs are suctarian, they hate iranies because most of iran people are Shi'ite, but the Sunni persians are like brothers to us we love them and we are ready to sacrifice our selfs for them.
The shiite considered non Muslims in the islamic ummah, they even worship hussain and ali more than god him self! And hitting thier selfs and crying for hussain, muslims dont do that.

there wasn't any terror activities until the establishment of israel, and the global support to the Arabic dictators (agents of the west) and the manipulation of religion.
also, ignorance considered a main reason.

@samioa I have never stated that being Aryan signifies a Nordic physical appearance. I base my arguments on science and not semantics. Haplogroup researches show that Iranians are not pure Aryans. Of course you have some traditions left but you speaking your original language means nothing. Take a look at the Kurds, look into the eyes of an anthropologist and claim that they are Aryans.
