They stand there for saftey reasons. As a batter if the ump just called a strike on the outside corner, you never take that pitch again especially with 2 strikes. Protect the plate, idk why Cast was so shocked the ump called the second outside fb a strike, you could make the argument it’s a hair outside, but the umpires are people who aren’t perfect, at least he was being consistent with his slightly extended strike zone. As a hitter you need to adjust to that and not throw a temper tantrum when essentially two of the exact same pitches in a row are both called strikes
To be fair though, most umps will warn a player or manager and make it clear to not argue any more, so that serves the same purpose. Here, Castellanos went straight to personal attacks, which gets you ejected every time.
Not even a remotely accurate assessment. You obviously know shit about baseball cause I'm legally blind and I could tell those were NOT strikes. That lame ass protect the plate bullshit kills me. Why swing at a pitch you KNOW is a ball? Stop blaming the players and kissing the Umps asses. 😂😂
I'm always impressed by hitters who know the difference between a strike and a ball that's an inch or 2 out of the zone. However, I played ball pretty competitively for about 12 years and my coaches always taught me to adjust to the umpires zone. Didn't matter if the pitch was "technically" a ball and what REALLY didn't matter was if you saw 2 pitches in a row and just looked at the second one like you thought the ump was gonna change his mind. A lot of umps irritate the hell out of me but the idea that a human is expected to always call a pitch exactly right w/in LESS than an inch is nonsense. Also, if we're being honest, the major league strike zone is very small...honestly too small.... so I only have sympathy when the pitch is more than 2 balls outside of the zone. Inside of that, the pitch is still very hitable for pretty much every hitter. And for anyone who complains about that, you need to appreciate hitters like Vlad Guerrero Sr and Javy Baez (to name a very few) that just free swing and put good wood on a lot of "Bad Balls".
Castellanos misses a chance to lightly toss his belt here. Shame. Side note: Bell and the Umps discussion could be placed in a television show as a couple's breakup, and I'd totally buy it.
The trick seems to be in the phrasing. Maybe players should try it this way, “Nothing personal, but as one professional to another, you’re really fucking bad at your job.”
I just wanna know who dislikes these videos. I sauce Jomboy a like as soon as I click the video bc I know how he works hard on them and it’s gonna be a banger every time

This is the kinda stuff that's making me love the game, not the potential speed and fairness of the sport.
And you probably think you walked to school uphill in the snow both ways, too. And that the snowstorms were bigger when you were a kid. Nope. People are people. Prideful. Craving respect. Telling someone who made a call on a pitch that could have gone either way that "You suck..." is asking to be tossed. You WANT to go if you say that. And everyone knows it. MLB will not even give a second thought to that ejection. The umpire supervisor probably wanted some explanation as to the second one, though.
@@adamwatkins1150 the difference is when you are a professional you do not let your emotions influence your actions. These umps are not behaving like professionals.
This is not being soft. It's stated in the rulebook (which so many fans like you never read) that arguing balls and strikes is ejectable. Especially when you use magic words like "you ____." Any personal insult, umpires are forced to eject a player. Don't blame them, umpires just enforce the rules they're told to follow. Castellanos needs to swing at borderline pitches and keep his mouth shut.
Are we really getting this bad where something this close is dissected under a microscope? The pitch was close, it could have gone either way, but we're trying to become perfectionists in everything now. We got instant replay back, now I'm sure they will make many unreviewable things reviewable in the future.
Idea here: a team of a player that gets ejected for disputing a call gets one challenge a game and if the player is right the ump gets ejected and they go to technology for the rest of the game to determine balls/strikes
Who gets their feelings hurt more, the opposing team when they get showed up for putting a position player on the mound in a blow out or the umps when someone tells them they suck at their job. Seriously umps, get it together. The robots are coming for your job. The future is now.

@@deventazz8018 there are way too many people out there who actually believe this, and it's simply false, excuse me for not reading his mind
So, you think the quality of umpiring is good?
@@marcmeyer9969 Actually, yes. If you look at the data, the umpiring keeps on getting better year to year.
Those were great pitches. Consistent location. Consistent calls. Batter needed to protect. Simple. Love ya Jomboy. Keep them videos coming
@@tonyabbett1639 take your meds bro. It's showing 🤣
Which is why umps should be out of a job and it should be automated, with sensors.
Was at this game. Crowd went nuts when they both got ejected. The castellanos one might've been the quickest toss I've ever seen though
Jomboy binge watch club!
I just wanna know who dislikes these videos. I sauce Jomboy a like as soon as I click the video bc I know how he works hard on them and it’s gonna be a banger every time
people who dislike these videos are known as “umpires”
Likely the know-it-alls who follow Close Call Sports. They just love complaining about JomBoy.
I was at that game! I actually used y’all’s seat geek code for this
Can’t cover Castellanos enough. These comments are hilarious
in the umps defence if the Canad Canad camera is looking straight down or angled from center of plate the ball catches the front corner
You know the Yankees won just by the tone Jomboy do these breakdowns lol usually when they lose he sounds less energized.
Was at this game the argument lasted a longgggggg time before they threw out the manager
Can’t wait to watch the breakdown of the terrible calls/ejections in the Cards v. Brewers series. I think it was the same umpiring crew.
Been watching for a while but the lip reading on this one earned my sub
Why is everyone that plays or officiates baseball so precious??? Everyone always worried about their feelings getting hurt 😂
Your channel has single handedly made me love the game of baseball. The breakdowns of the games showed me how damn fun baseball is. The interactions with the umps are all time.... and now I'm reading the MLB is testing robo umps. This is the kinda stuff that's making me love the game, not the potential speed and fairness of the sport.
lol this is the second time Bell has been told he was ejected because "they HAD to eject him"
Best lip reader in sports. Jomboy!!
Umps have definitely gotten softer over the years.
Fr. They don’t understand that the game of baseball is not about them!
@@otm646 Much like the players shouldn't be having tantrum's in the first place
This is not being soft. It's stated in the rulebook (which so many fans like you never read) that arguing balls and strikes is ejectable. Especially when you use magic words like "you ____." Any personal insult, umpires are forced to eject a player. Don't blame them, umpires just enforce the rules they're told to follow. Castellanos needs to swing at borderline pitches and keep his mouth shut.
jomboy lip reading and reenactments are so. damn. good.
Are we really getting this bad where something this close is dissected under a microscope? The pitch was close, it could have gone either way, but we're trying to become perfectionists in everything now. We got instant replay back, now I'm sure they will make many unreviewable things reviewable in the future.
Your lip reading is impeccable 😂
As a Reds fan, anytime David Bell gets thrown out of a game, I honestly feel like we have a better shot at winning.
I don't think he's the one that said "whattya guys think about trying to do this season with no bullpen?"
Idea here: a team of a player that gets ejected for disputing a call gets one challenge a game and if the player is right the ump gets ejected and they go to technology for the rest of the game to determine balls/strikes
Umpires: the softest officials in all of sports.
Daddy jomboy always makes my day
Who gets their feelings hurt more, the opposing team when they get showed up for putting a position player on the mound in a blow out or the umps when someone tells them they suck at their job.
Seriously umps, get it together. The robots are coming for your job. The future is now.
Why is the ump positioned so far inside? Shouldn't he be squared with the plate for a better view of the strike zone?
No, works the slot position for safety
@@russellbrooker2122 Interesting. I feel like he would be safer behind the catcher, I would think in the open he is more vulnerable to foul balls and wild pitches But I don't watch baseball that much. Thanks for clarifying.
I'm starting to wonder if the mlb is just a drama show, none of the actual games matter. It's all the work of cgi
All I’m saying is Baseball has increased in popularity immensely since Jomboy
Some of these umpires are way too sensitive. Lol
You know I'm not necessarily a baseball fan, but you keep me interested that's for sure!
I need coaches to up their game. If the umps can make it all about them then coaches should be able to do the same. Need more good Sweet Lou type rants and arguments.
Yeah they need to start swingin' can't get ejected twice woooh
The actually with the ump on the strike calls those were pretty much strikes, they were great pitches and the ump was consistent to idk
I like the yellow card idea. The ump could pull out the card - write the name on it then dramatically pull the card out the second time and scroll down Santa’s list to see if Timmy gets tossed. I only want this so there will be endless opportunities for your commentary , )
You Rock my friend!
the boom ejected part was actually funny lol
Jomboy is truly a legend
Jomboy, we have to have a talk. You are single handedly fucking up my news feed. Google thinks I like baseball because of your breakdowns and content. I don't like baseball, I just like Jomboy content.
Keep doing what you're doing. I'll get Google sorted.
Thank you. I was waiting for this.
I love it how all these breakdowns are about the umps
Idk man the only time I watch baseball is through your breakdowns but I kinda like how the umps can just eject you at anytime for any reason 😂 keeps ya on your toes
I love your videos and what u do with voice over...
I don't even watch baseball, i just like the commentary
Jomboy you the man
