One of the first times my Dad let me drive a tractor alone was letting me drive our new IH 300 with a new IH 2ME mounted corn picker. All I did was drive though a gate, but I was on cloud 9!! I think I was 8or 9.I never road with Dad in the field on that picker..He told me it was way way to dangerous. I will never forget that day.I got off that tractor and said to myself I was going to be a Farmer no matter what.We farmed together for many years.I have a son and daughter that both my Dad and I taught to drive a tractor. No they do not farm. They still use what they learned on the farm on the jobs they have now!! Thanks 🥲.
Awesome story, my grandpa first taught me to drive a tractor around 8-9 years old too, he got an old John Deere started up and running, put it in gear, it started moving and he hopped off the back while I was sitting there speechless and terrified! He said “drive it around a while you’ll be fine” I’ll never forget that, also I loved riding with him on his old Farmalls and when he was done working he always let me push the kill switch. He was the one who got me into antique tractors and i always think of him when looking at/working on one
Love seeing your corn harvest and seeing your younger son doing a grown job with skill. Nice to hear Mrs. Gierok narrating and helping out, truly a family affair. All the different angles of the vintage machinery was a treat. Thank you
Great to see reminds me of back in the 70's and early 80's when my family farmed. We had mounted 2 row on a john deere 3020 then Dad moved on to John deere 4400 Combine. Love the family involvement. in harvesting.
I Love this video. I remember picking corn with my dad and those are days I won't forget. I still have the picker and the wagons. There's not much land left around here that I can grow corn on but I'm gonna start looking.
Another good video by Gierok Farms. My dad had a New Idea one row that he pulled with his narrow front 44 Massey Harris. I remember in particular my uncle using it after dad started shelling with his new Oliver 525 self propelled 3 row. My brother and I would ride the wagon in the back and pull any husks off we would see on the ears of corn. Fun ride as a kid. My uncle fed out cattle for freezer beef. Dad left a few acres for him to pick, he opened the field up with the Oliver. Great memories. Thank you and God Bless. Keep em' coming!
I always am amazed how that picker handles today's corn as the yields today are way higher than when that picker was manufactured. Moving right along thru that corn !
We had 2 New Idea pull behind corn pickers they worked good most of the time ...best time of my life , growin up on a dairy farm south of Rockfalls,Illinois ...
Brings back good memories of picking corn with my Dad using the IH 234 picker. Still have it in case I get the urge. When I was very young, we used picket fence to made a round crib. 60's and early 70's, always snow on the ground when finished up,
You know I watch alot of farming channels ..from smaller farms to the largest farms..I would say that the size of ears you guys harvested today are the largest I have seen ...nice job for hilly country
@@hankelrod7315 What is a 'wide' row? Our New Idea two-row was set at 38in back in the 1970s. I planted 30in this last summer with 6.2 inch pitch (32,000 population?) and my Reid's Yellow Dent was up and down on ear size telling me more about the soil while (shorter stalk) popcorn was perfectly uniform. Next spring I'm shifting the Reid's to 9in, the next setting on the planter. Some of the Reids reached 14ft tall.
I like your video’s. I am a son of a feed miller. My dad ran a feed mill in Independence that was next to the bridge in the 50’s and 60’s. I met a lot of good farmers while helping out my dad. I miss those days. After work I would have a beer at Polly’s. Keep making these great video’s and good luck on the farm. I also like your old M tractor, I had many hour on one up by squarebluff. So I know what farming on the hills is.
It so awesome to see the whole family get involved. I must say a special credit to your youngest son for being there with you. These days the kids are stuck on gadgets, so it is super commendable to see him playing such a huge part on the farm. You and your wife certainly raise some fine young men.
Enjoyed your video very much. Brings memories from my youth on our farm and our Oliver mounted corn picker. We had a similar corn elevator and outdoor cribs like yours. Those were good days'
Man I'd love to come up and visit your farm is beautiful I've always wanted to run a corn picker I've always thought the old school iron was pretty awesome I grew up farming but sadly sold the cows when I was only 12 I miss dairy farming everyday and wish I cld still be farming
I pick with the same picker. Around fifty acres a year. We have it mounted on an M .I would love to have it on a larger tractor, but we've been mounting it on the same M since the early 70s and it's just what we use . The camera angles are really great. I've got some videos of us picking up loaded on UA-cam, but it doesn't compare to yours. Keep up the great videos.
Here in our Western Pennsylvania farm, we pick and shell both we shall with an old leaner f2 for a wide head and we picked with the 324 new idea wide row pool type 2 row I picked with a 2017 Case IH 75c, or if it gets cold my cx95 McCormick with the cab but I kind of prefer the open tractor watching you going in that t-shirt nice bright sunny day like that that's about what we've had until lately and we had that tropical rain yesterday and now it's about 40 outside and snowing at 11:00 at night on Saturday evening so I don't know what we're going to have next week but we've got to wait till it dries up before we can get on now we've had about three inches of rain stay safe out there enjoy your videos
Boy what a funny feeling … takes me back to the 1970’s when my dad contract picked maize around the area into cribs . An IH 706 in a 234 with a husking unit like your set up . Had a JD 2 row to start - a 237 ? on a 3020 . The IH was better to change over to sweet corn , knives and better stripper plates . Happy days ..
I really enjoy the corn picking video our first mounted corn picker was a Moline RJ husker on a Moline UB tractor dad never ran that I picked all the corn with that tractor
I remember the days before we got a picker and we dryed the corn in corn shocks throughout the field. We harvested the ears still on the stalks with a corn binder. I think that was a Cyrus McCormick invention similar to one's used for wheat. Then my dad walked through the field and propped the corn bundles together in teepee shaped "shocks". There would be maybe 30 or so on a field of just a few acres. We kids loved to play hide and seek in the shocks and would sometimes have secret pow wows, smoke corn silk or even play doctor inside the shocks. When the corn was sufficiently dry to put in the crib there was the corn shredder that stripped off and husked the ears. The machine looked very similar to an old threshing machine.
Not to long ago in the past we used a mounted new idea in our 686. Lots of smashed fingers and sore backs. We finally ungraded to a pull type new idea a few years back. Thanks for the videos.
Love it!!! Its the best experience growing up. I will say it til I die. 41 years old and worked my way up threw the ranks and i would not be here today if it wasn't for the skills and work ethic i learned being raised on a farm!! I love the channel keep up the good work
Awesome to see operations still doing it this way. Surprisingly, you can make No 2 yellow corn production more profitable picking on the ear. But u gotta know what your doing and it's alot of work! Good for small acres. These are the machines that built America! Thnx for the content
Great video as always! We used to pick with a New Idea 2 row pull behind. I miss pulling the wagons to and from the field with a 52' B John Deere. By far the best job on the farm. Thank you for making this video.
What a great video. I remember picking corn as a youngster with the whole family by hand using a double box wagon with high side boards on one side to through the corn against being pulled by a team of horses. A double box wagon was on high wood spoked wheels and would hold about 50 bu of wheat. g
Throw a few cobs in the cow tank, if they float it's good to go 😊 Picked for years on a JD 3020 with a mounted picker. It's been 30 years and I still think I have dust coming out of my eyes.(Noticed you didn't have goggles on) Always love the smell of fresh picked corn when the weather wasn't too COLD to hide the aroma.
This is a great video guys! I have never picked corn, so I especially liked the shots from the tractor. Hope you have another one showing you finishing up. Heck Yeah!! 👍🇺🇲❤️
Believe it or not, yesterday was the first time i found two single row pickers working in the same field! I am a English guy managing a farm in Romania and i have always wounded how corn on the cobb was harvested! Great to see yours working and your videos are very interesting to watch!
Iowa country Girl channel raise beef and they pick until the old wood two sided crib is full. Then they combine the rest and grind them together with some added minerals. Good to see you doing it this way. Love seeing corn in the crib. Do you bush hog the the stubble when done and bale some for bedding?
I’ve been away from the farm for a long time. I sure miss corn picking time. I pulled a 1 row New Idea picker behind a John Deere 3020 diesel. Anywhere from 80 to 110 acres every year . It depended on how many acres we did for my cousin
Fun to watch George on the picker. He's grinning on each clip,,,totally in his element.

The person who did the interdiction to this video did a great job. Much better than I do on my videos.
Old school cool did it the same way when i was a kid on the farm 🚜
By the size of those ears I'd say you'll have a excellent yield per acre. As usual another great video. Stay safe and enjoy your harvest.
Thank you for showing us the beauty of farming and rural life
Wonderful memories thank You
There is nothing better than the smell of cob corn in the crib. Brings back lots of memories of filling grandpa's cribs...

Thanks so much for showing the operation up close and personal. That is some great way from away back for sure.
Thank you for sharing!

Love the video. Brings back memories.
Very cool to see in action. My family has an old 1970s New Holland combine we use to make grain. The last of it is drying in the silo now
The camera up on the elevator was a pretty neat view. Great video y'all.
Yes it was
Oh man great video thanks
Great to see the cribs filling up

Great vid. Great memories! We always used barge wagons, never dreamed of using gravity wagons. Live and learn
what a pleasure to watch never gets better❤ thank you😊
just some info your picker was made in Coldwater Ohio and the J&M wagon made in Ft. Recovery Ohio about 10 miles a part.
Thank you for these great camera angles!
Good stuff guys 👍👍👍👍😄😄😄 those ears looked really good and large.
Nice!
You can get replacement rubber fingers for in the husking bed from a place in Leola PA called country machinery if you're interested. Great video.
Excellent video.
You know I watch alot of farming channels ..from smaller farms to the largest farms..I would say that the size of ears you guys harvested today are the largest I have seen ...nice job for hilly country
That's what I was thinking and I watch a ton of other farmers to.
Wide rows make long ears; I’ll take medium sized ears at higher populations all day long

@@jvin248 Reid’s is open pollinated, ear size is affected by its parents, with hybrids ears should be uniform size
@@jvin248 32,000 is too much for open pollinated, you will have much better stand ability at 24,000 and similar yield

And she did an excellent job !😁

Looks like a realy good harvest! Big corn ears🤩🤩
Awesome video again!! 10
Great video, enjoy see "old school" equipment still working. Dairy farming is a lot of hard work and dedication.
Good looking stuff right there!
Awesome job
You did an excellent job with this video. I had a blast watching it!
Picking ear corn, brings back alot of memories. Helped my dad pick alot of corn back in the day. Love the video.
Great video. Beautiful farm…beautiful day.
I really enjoy the corn picking videos .
I like returning to them to rewatch over.
I don't know why but I'm just fascinated by the videos.
