We care for the game, our officials, and the communities we serve. That spirit, equal parts passion and compassion, led us to found Official Finders in 2009. In the years since we've slowly but steadily built an organization that sources and trains officials that help struggling youth sports organizations. More than filling a job for a game, our mission is helping to create work with meaning.

0:33. I was taught that the official lineup was the one given to the PU. Whatever was given to the other coach, scorekeepers, fans, etc. are not official. Ideally, they're all the same, but where they differ, the one given to the PU is official. What's the correct ruling here?
1:19. I don't think you call the batter out here -- he is just removed from the field of play. I think you call the *proper* batter out and the next batter is the name that follows that proper batter. If the batting order is Smith - Jones ... but: Jones goes to bat, Jones gets a single, and then the defense appeals. (1) Jones is removed from the base, (2) other runners are returned to their bases prior to that last pitch (steals and other stuff stand), (3) Smith (not Jones) is called out, and (4) the next batter is the one that follows the proper batter Smith ... which is Jones (again).
The craziest part is that teams can pretty much bat in whatever order they want, as long as the other team doesn't notice. They can bat their big HR-hitting stud every-other batter, if they want. Umps say and do nothing until the other team does. Weird.

Where do the batters that got skipped bat?

@@heathbushell4948 They don't. At 2:06, that red X gets placed on the spreadsheet. They just got skipped (until the next cycle throught the batting order). The rub is that only the team head coaches can identify batting out of order, not the umps. The umps can only react to appeals and apply the rules.
So, the correct ruling is to skip those batters. However, nobody on the field other than the umpire would even know that. So, it's likely that the team would say, "Hey, we skipped Batter 4, so we'll go back up there and start batting again." And the other team would likely think that was perfectly fine. So, as an umpire, you're watching two teams willingly violate the rules without any recourse other than to watch it all unfold.
