Lol the mets announcer talking shit in the beginning 😂😂
Matthew Waters you'd think he'd have enough material covering the Mets
True but the marlins announcers are cancer
Ah the Mets. Baseball’s Cleveland Browns.
remember when they tricked us into thinking they would be good this year?
yeah, that was like, last month.
FivePoints Vids love ur vids
HA!
Dude, they've at least been to the WS within the last half-century. You want the baseball Browns, the Mariners will do just fine.
6:39 - no mr announcer, Posey is not out. Sandoval was out. Posey is simply removed from the bases, his actions erased... but he's not out. (edit: right at the end of the clip, the announcer does in fact explain it correctly)

Highlight heaven should do one on Teams losing their DH
any sport, refs getting mad at players
I had this happen in a little league game 2 times in one week by the same team it was great
5:27 How ironic? "They had the right guy up there." Did they?
1:55 no, mr announcer, Cabrera wasn't out. Neither was Flores (well, Flores was out during his own at-bat, but he wasn't out for BOOO). Strangely enough, Bruce was out. The next proper batter to lead off the 2nd inning is Gonzalez.
Nobody except experienced umpires understands BOOO.
5:28 They had the right guy up there ... No they didnt

Lots of opportunities to mess up when batting out of order. Say you send the guys in 1-3-2 order.
1st inning
1 goes as expected. Out #1
3 out of order (should be 2). Suppose he makes Out #2. The other team lets it stand
2 out of order (should be 4). Suppose he makes Out #3. The team is retired.
2nd inning
4 out of order! (Should be 3). If he makes Out, you let it stand and see if they do it again on the next trip around the lineup.
Conclusion: Make 110% sure that the batting order you have is the right one.
another guy who understands BOOO. yes, the smart coach who spots BOOO just keeps that in his pocket, ready to strike.
Have never actually seen this happen till now
HH uploading twice is...HEAVENly.
Ay idk how mlb works but ill watch anyway because its HH
So the only lineup that matters is the one that's given to the umpire. That's why they always check with him when they want to pinch hit. In the Mets example, everyone except the Ump had Flores 2nd, Cabrera third. The ump had the reverse
MLB craziest grand slams

Inexcusable to happen at the college and minor league levels... beyond the pale for the big leagues.
2 videos on one day! Highlight heaven at his best.

Great idea.
Greg Gibson, the home plate umpire
Damn why did the broadcasters have to go in on the Reds LF like that 😭
It was the 1st inning! Hahahahahaha
I Love Double uploads :D
What a shitty way to go 0-for-1. You don't even get to go to the plate, somebody else gets a hit, and you're out.
surprising but true; OBR 9.03(d)

we have no clue what we are doing anymore
I was looking at the NFHS rules for this in high school.. Same rule usually. Batter is out and Next correct batter is up.
The batter who should have batted is out, not the batter who was at the plate.
RIP Eric Cooper
Sandoval is out. Posey is the next batter.
The game that made Derek Carr famous
flipping any pair of batters actually creates 3 Batting out of Order (BOOO or BooO) situations in a row every time through the order.
Consider the proper order Abel, Baker, Charlie, Delta, Echo. The team however follows Abel, Charlie, Baker, Delta, Echo.
Abel bats, he's the proper batter. Next proper batter is Baker.
Charlie bats, but it should be Baker. Next proper batter is Delta.
Baker bats, but it should be Delta. Next proper batter is Charlie.
Delta bats, but it should be Charlie. Next proper batter is Echo.
Echo bats, he's the proper batter.
Every time the wrong batter bats and the defense doesn't protest before throwing a pitch to the next batter, the wrong batter is legalized and the next proper batter is whoever's name appears in the official lineup next after the legalized batter. Thus flip-flopping two batters creates 3 opportunities for BOOO.

Does it count as a plate appearance?
I think that the lineup cards need to be the same between the umpires and the booth.
Why? The booth isn’t relevant to the game at all...
Ok
1:47 what's with the random kid?
Every one was a hit.... I'm sure there more but only really matters if they get a hit
More baseball less football
(Some) announcers sound mixed up. At any rate is it this: 2 bats in 1's spot, so 1 gets called out, and 2 bats "again" now? (Makes most sense, and seems to be what the last announcer says.) Or is 2 called out, and they next bat #1, then #3? Or is 2 called out, and they next bat #1, then #2? Continuation of more of the clips might have answered this. AAR I'm not sure all of the announcers understand who exactly is out, 1 or 2.
Bill Woo 1 is skipped, 2 is out, 3 bats
Really! 1 is skipped! So the batting order is shifted?! That sounds crazy. And manipulable. This is a stretch, but bear with me: if you have a batter #1 OR #2 that cannot bat, but you want to keep him in the lineup for defense, or your lineup is depleted in the 15th inning so you must have a pitcher in the batting order, but he's a dead duck offensively (I've heard of a batter being actually ordered to "take" a strikeout, believe it or not) - if that's the case, and the batting team can afford the enormous cost of conceding an out, then they should just send #2 up in #1's spot, and that way they get #3 able to bat, only suffering one out instead of one "certain" out plus another batter.
What happens if #2 is out, and the other manager does not say anything? Same thing, 2 is out, and 1 is skipped?
So in this crazy shifting, a pitcher can throw a perfect game, and rather than 9 batting positions showing box score
3 0 0 0
it could show something like 2 0 0 0 for the 7th batter, and 4 0 0 0 for the 1st batter in the lineup, when this happens with the leadoff batter in the ninth inning? The 7th would be skipped, 8 would be out, then 9 is retired normally, and 1 gets a fourth at bat for the 27th out? Do you or everyone follow what I'm saying here?
@@counterfit5 that's wrong. If a proper appeal is made after 2 bats, 1 is out, 2 bats again.
Yo Where is Jose At SO We Can All Roast Him XD
Do mlb oddities
Whats up
What do Major League teams hope to gain by batting out of order?
Nothing. I would think batting out of order is never intentional.
That thumbnail hurts...
MAKE A CAPITALS HYPE A
In the first situation, Announcers are wrong again. Cabrera was not out, the batter who should have batted is out. The lead off batter made an out. Cabrera should have batted next but Flores batted out of turn. He made an out so the right move is to not appeal. Now Cabrera bats but Bruce follows Flores in the order. When Cabrera bats and the defense appeals batting out of order, Bruce is out. Most announcers think the guy who batted in the wrong spot is the one who is out. The proper batter is out.
ah, brother umpire knows BOOO.
@@davej3781 There have been times I was not 100% sure of a rule on a situation. That is a very bad feeling . As soon as I can, I always look up the rule and/or casebook plays to verify a call I made. 30 years umpiring and two years as a rules interpreter kept my nose in the rule book.
@@alanhess9306 that's basically been my focus this year, I've been burying myself in the rules since there has been zero baseball for 9 months here (and probably no baseball for at least 3 more months). behind almost every comment I make here on UA-cam is me looking up rules, interpretations, caseplays to make sure what I'm saying is correct. I will almost never post what I _think_ a rule is without verifying it, and I've learned a lot by finding out my initial take, while rarely entirely wrong, missed some nuances. I think I knew the rules reasonably well before, but I've really added to my knowledge this past year particularly in learning the rulebook wording. The pandemic may have left me bored and fat, but at least I know the NFHS and OBR books a lot better.
@@davej3781 I have a mechanics question for you which has nothing to do with this video. Take a look at this video; ua-cam.com/video/ZvIj7OcsS8Q/v-deo.html&ab_channel=CindyRourke
As the base umpire, I think you should make a call and if you were blocked or otherwise unsure you should seek help if the coach comes out and challenges the call. Some folks think you should immediately go for help before making a call. This is something umpires have disagreed upon for as long as I can remember. What are your thoughts on this?
@@alanhess9306 as U1, if I'm suspicious of the foot and there's no hurry to make the call, I'll turn to PU and ask if the foot was good (especially if it's a routine nobody-on play where PU is trailing BR to the 45, he literally has nothing else to do except tell me about the foot). I've done this with higher level guys in my association, and higher level guys have asked me as PU in the same way; no one's ever said "no, you should've waited for the coach to ask you to get help". Sometimes when I'm PU, U1 will look at me before making his call if there was a big stretch or off-line throw that calls the foot into question; I'll give him a very subtle signal down by my waist - a fist for an out, a little hand-waive if I had a pulled foot... then he makes his call with authority. Whether done obviously or on the down-low, I think it's a good look and saves time - if the foot looked suspicious to U1, you can bet it looked suspicious to OC.
On the other hand, if there is continuing action where I need to bounce back towards 3B for a potential play on another runner, or if PU has action in his area, then I'm just going to call the out and sort out the foot later.

Does it really matter if you bat out of order? Seems like an odd rule to me.
Does it really matter if you don't touch first? Does it really matter if there are ten fielders instead of nine?
1st to like

What a dumb rule. Let the order be determined by how they bat in the first inning, not some clerical nonsense.
although i sort of agree with you, if your team is dumb enough to bat in the wrong order, you deserve to be out.
Highlight Heaven facts
Highlight Heaven what it looks like in every case is they batted in the *right* order (as in the order the team planned), but whoever wrote up the official card for the umps and the other team made a copy error (using whatever archaic method they use that somehow results in that card being different from the ones the broadcasters and the crowd have.) Meanwhile the crowd gets to sit around waiting for everyone to get their heads together... Where are all the people complaining about pace of play?
I'm not really arguing the justice of the call itself, the rules are the rules. This is one rule they should just dump though. Who the fuck cares if the viewers have to occasionally swap a pair of batters on their scorecards?
kmarasin I believe this is more to do with the teams having to create a set line-up to avoid one having a huge advantage over the other of batting second. Using your rules a home team could have an entire half inning of information the away team wouldn't have to form their line-up.
SugaryCoyote this may be a slight imbalance, but it's not a big deal honestly. Other factors are generally far more decisive than what your opponent's batting order looks like, especially at the pro level. (I'd still call for deciding on the starting nine beforehand; any subsequent changes in personnel world go down as a substitution, disqualifying the listed player from further participation.)
In cricket, for example, it's been long accepted that the team batting second has this as an advantage. Add to that the fact that there's only one or two innings rather than nine. What's observed is that a team can easily second-guess themselves into oblivion by relying too much on their opponent's order to set their own.
Bottom line is, if this was the logic behind the rule, fine. It doesn't have to be anymore.
(BTW if you're worried about the postseason, there could be special rules in place there, although to me, it would add a little incentive to want to be the team with home field advantage.)
You do this all the time in little league and nobody cares.
