    First off, your dress and room is so pretty! You’re like a gorgeous fairy princess! I’m so sorry this happened to you. I don’t have a guide dog but I can’t imagine how much discrimination their users must face. It really frustrates me. People need to be educated on it.

    All I can say is I’m glad they are no longer in business, they don’t deserve anyone’s custom with disgusting discriminating actions like this. Thanks for sharing this video and highlighting that unfortunately this could be part of a disabled persons struggle to access xxx

    That’s so crazy that they do that to you. Like you said it what did she expect would happen, of course you would question it after she said that to you. And I don’t blame you for not going further with it, like you said you were young and this is your first event and it makes total sense that you’ll be confused about all the back-and-forth and conflicting information you were getting.

      A court of clockwork hallows There seems to be some sort of prevailing belief that blindness equals intellectual difficulties or something. Not just blindness, I suppose, but basically any disability. It angers me to hear how the woman blatantly lied and twisted things to try and cover her own nasty backside.

    You've inspired me to open up about access denials I've faced with my own guide dog!! Thanks for being brave and sharing. Discrimination thrives in silence, but cannot stand if we keep the conversation going!

    Emily my 8 month old daughter has septo optic dysplasia. When I was pregnant we were given such a bleak prognosis regarding her capabilities and future. I watched your vlogs and it gave our family so much hope! You are so driven and explain the condition so well, one of the things I particularly enjoy is that you touch on limitations but concentrate on your achievements and you have such a positive attitude!! Like you our daughter is determined and despite any health issues she stuns us all every day with her willpower and smiling eyes. You are a wonderful inspirational woman. As an aside I can say I giggled when I discovered that "Gretchen's" company folded. 😄

      Kim Whelan this was such a lovely message to read! Thank you so much for taking the time to write this and it’s so lovely to hear that my videos have helped. In fact I’m actually going to be doing a series specifically on the different elements of my illness soon if you are interested in that. Feel free to reach out any time if you have any questions or would just like to have a chat. Also I don’t know if you know but there is a great charity called the pituitary foundation which have loads of information and advice on these kinds of illnesses. Well wishes to you and your family x

      Hello! Like Emily and your daughter, I have SOD as well. One thing my mom told me about my infancy was that, while the doctors knew things, they didn't have all the answers and the best she could do was treat me as normal as possible. For example, they said I had no eyesight at all, but she showed me colors anyway on the off chance I had useable vision, which I do.
      I think it's great you can look at online resources, like these videos, and find hope and comfort in them. That's a resource parents of my generation of 90s/2000s kids didn't have. SOD effects everyone differently, but my thoughts are with you and your daughter as you both grow and learn.
      Sorry if this is a little rambly, as it's the middle of the night, but I send you my best wishes!

    • @MagicalAuroraDream
      @MagicalAuroraDream 4 роки тому +1

      To be honest, I had no idea they could diagnose SOD so young now. I was born in 91, and not diagnosed for 4 months. I think my parents could totally empathize with the bleakness of doctors.

    It breaks my heart to hear of people with disabilities being discriminated against. I once had a math teacher who questioned my ability to do math because I am blind. He clearly thought because I'm blind that my brain doesn't work either. I went home and cried. Then just to prove him wrong and because I love math so much, I got a 100 on the test.

    • @asecretcourtofcrowsandcloc4084
      @asecretcourtofcrowsandcloc4084 4 роки тому +1

      molly brainard good for you. It’s really satisfying when we can prove people wrong, especially teachers and other people in positions of authority about what they think we’re capable of. Also, kudos about your math ability. I am visually impaired and have no head for math. I think it’s a combination of visual difficulties and just the fact that my brain is not wired that way.

    • @MagicalAuroraDream
      @MagicalAuroraDream 4 роки тому

      A court of clockwork hallows LOL same! I have a better head for statistics than straight math, and I feel greatful to have never had such a negative experience. I did have an English professor, though, who didn't really want me reading out Shakespear lines during class like everyone else because she thought I'd be slower at it, as I was using Braille ... which I would NOT have been, because I'm an efficient reader! I was already seriously regretting my English major, and wound up flunking the class, which in retrospect I massively regret. I guess all's well that ends well, though, as I now have a bachelor of science in Psychology and I still love English ... just not to the degree required to get a degree.
      Anyway, I'm rambling! My point is that teachers and professors should find ways to supportand accommodate their blind and disabled students rather than finding ways to doubt their abilities.

    Amazing, how people are conceptualizing to their own understanding something, which they are not able to experience themselves! I have had the opposite situation thrown at me a ton - because I suffer from an “ invisible” condition, people think that I am faking, or lying... good stuff :) Come say hi! :)

    • @MagicalAuroraDream
      @MagicalAuroraDream 4 роки тому

      That's absolute crap people treat you like that, I'm sorry to hear it. Just because it's not represented by a wheelchair or a cane, that doesn't make it any less real or make it impact your life any less. They need to get rid of the stigma surrounding so-called "invisible disabilities". People always seem to find something to pick at, I guess. Even with so-called visible disabilities, there are negative people. I had a friend who's completely blind and told me of an incident when she was little, out with her mom, and some freak walked up and said "Playing blind, are we?"

    I was just discriminated against in a sushi restaurant sushi my favorite thing to eat they didn’t want me to get in because they ask for paperwork of course you have to understand he is my first guide dog and asking for paperwork that’s totally against the law specially here in the states so yeah it was not applicable it was ridiculous this they let me sit down with my cousin but never again never again will I go back there I would’ve had to contact disability rights California yeah it’s a law firm for the disabled and it goes under the Americans with disabilities act nobody’s allowed to ask for paperwork

    • @fashioneyesta
      @fashioneyesta  4 роки тому

      That really sucks! I'm sorry you had to go through that. I have heard that in the US you cannot ask to see documentation. In the UK I think our rules are different and people are allowed to ask to see your guide dog/assistance dog identity card for proof. Most don't though as a rule.

    • @dinahakim7114
      @dinahakim7114 4 роки тому

      Fashioneyesta Well do you asked for my document I said you’re not allowed to ask for that then the waitress asked me well the supervisor as to ask her that if that makes any sense but at the end of the day I was right she was wrong the whole Americans with disabilities act I even mentioned that things are due with a guide dog on assistant dog like that🙄 but I wouldn’t change it for anything to be honest with you I love my guide dog to bits and pieces we can’t go out anywhere or if he’s discriminated against I just call disability rights California and take videos on my phone because now you can do that and it’s not illegal

    I’m going on a bike ride with my sister today. I was once told I shouldn’t ride a bike because I’m visually impaired. Well love there are ways we can. She kept jabbering on about how I shouldn’t and I was like moving on with your life dear stop wasting time asking me what I’m doing on a bike.

    • @MagicalAuroraDream
      @MagicalAuroraDream 4 роки тому

      I understand how you feel. I've ridden a bike since I was little, (as an aside, my brother took off my training wheels without parental supervision when I was 7, LOL) Now, in my late 20s, I ride it up and down a long gravel driveway all the time with my niece, who's 7 and sighted. I have useable vision, but it is still bad enough I used Braille in school, use a white cane, to see anything on a computer or phone I need to zoom in, and I should (but don't always) use non-visual cooking techniques.
      Anyway, there are some very sweet, but elderly neighbors who just can't get over the fact I can ride a bike. They're like "How do you do it?" LOL! I have no real answer other than "Um ... carefully?" It's kind of like me asking how they drive, or walk, or something. I just do it ... although my niece does occasionally reprimand me saying that my big bike startles her sometimes, haha!
      People should understand that being blind doesn't mean that a person cannot do something. I knew a kid in school who could ride a bike completely blind.

    • @MagicalAuroraDream
      @MagicalAuroraDream 4 роки тому

      I hope it wasn't a family member who told you that ... It was actually my older brother who got me out of training wheels when Mom's back was turned, then said "Mom, look at sis!" Haha! He didn't care a jot that I was visually impaired, just that I was 7, we lived on a quiet street, and it was time to get rid of those training wheels! I'll always remember that! 😄
