like a boss. I remember working for my grandfather in the scrapyard and saving every dollar I made to purchase the c64 along with the disk drive. This was the first game I purchased. I got it before I bought the computer itself. I kept the disk in a cool, dry place (my sock drawer) until I made enough money to get the computer and disk drive. I was 12 years old. Hard work, but well deserved.
The first video game I was hooked on. I remember sitting at school, tapping my toes, ready to come back home to play this. The music was epic, very funky and very cool transitions. Also first game I finished ;)
Yeah it is! I remember playing this and Below the Root at a friend's house on his dads computer and we were like 6 or 7 at the time, blown away by the graphics because we were used to playing on an Atari 2600
This game is very fast played, but i always loved it, i guess its because its dark mood and mysterious one. But what I really loved, that the program saved in its memory the stars who went to the next room, or remind the dead bodies. This was amazing back than.
Mastertronic made budget games. It was only $8 bucks in Canada, back when a game like Ultima 3 was selling for, I kid you not, $79.99! For kids, this was a fun game. Easy to beat once you got the knack, but the music was undeniably awesome. It is funny to note that "The Last Ninja" also it notable for it's awesome music. Two Ninja themed-games may have some of the best music created on a C64!
Huh, forgot that this game was that short. Always loved the music from the game. I get this one confused with another one where you are attacked by dogs and can hide out in ventilation shafts.
You can go through the walls on this way: Duck on the edge (where the door meet with the floor) of the black door (that you normaly use to go lower) at any place where you can find one for example in acuma's chamber. Than sudenly stand up from ducking and run to the wall behind you (its work only the wall that behind you) and if your character hit 2 in the air its a good sign its mean it will work) you just can step through the wall. AND NEVER BE THE SAME GAME its weird like a paralel universe.
MAN! I had totally forgotten about this game until I saw this! You have NO IDEA how many ninjas I drew when I was a kid, based on inspiration from this game. :D
This game has secret rooms i remember. I've never found out what was the catch for getting into one but sometimes during the play certain hole would appear in the ceiling and you would get in that secret room which is different from the others and ninjas were tougher... anyways, great game, nice memories ... :)
This was always a favorite back in the day. never knew exactly what I was supposed to do, but this was back before there was an internet or UA-cam to show us what you were supposed to be doing as you played, lol! Thanks for sharing this!
So I'm was born in 88 and well growing up I didn't have game systems. My grandma had a commodore 64 with this game and the beach head trilogy. So playing this was partially my first exposure to video games.
Been searching for this game for a very long time. Always remembered the farting sound as the enemy flattened like a pancake. Funniest thing as a 5 year old playing this.
This game reminds me of leafing through well loved copies of 'Ninja' magazine, pining for a sword. Now you can buy swords at the mall for a weeks worth of allowance. Gah, I was born 20 years too early.
Was anyone else reminded of this game when watching kill bill vol 1? Specifically the blue room when she's fighting the crazy 88. I haven't seen it in a while but I remember there is a quick and quiet electronic riff right as it starts.
Did you know that there are a bug in the game and you can go through walls ? In this way you can play this as lomng as you want since once you went through a wall the game crash and generate levels randomly (instead of some intresting graphic effect) and generating new type of foes (ninjas thus takes 5 times more damage or constanly kick like the hell) and the only bad thing about it you wont find healing idols anymore...
I remember the ZX Spectrum version of this was an absolute trainwreck that was barely playable yet could be completed with ease in minutes by just hammering the fire button. Will have to give the C64 version a crack at some point.
i loved this game as a kid i always wanted to fight loads of the thugs at one time. I would just walk around the rooms all day killing thugs i became really good.
Some place the music going to be slowed and there are new type of ninjas apear. Its also usually happen when you leave a screen and try to get back into the same room you find a different there.I dont know how this weird bug ca nexist i na c64 game. Try it i guarantee you've never seen such an intresting bug in a computer game mostly not in c64 games because it's a toatal weird hidden game in a game that you can never find if you dont know how to use the bug.
I had the Amstrad CPC version which had no music, and whenever you entered a new room, a explosion-like sound would be heard! I also remember a glitch where you could only defeat enemies on the left side of the screen with a low punch!
This was the fist game I bought before I got I kept it in a box in a cool dry place for months before I saved up enough money to buy a c64 and the disk drive. I don't remember how much it was back then, but I mowed many yards and busted my ass to make enough money to buy it. I believe I was in the 8th grade at the time. I'm 41 now.
HA, i remember this game and "approaching torii in the sea", but couldn't remember the title. now i found it. maybe that's just nitpicking, but why is the red door blue, lol?
This game is good on all systems. I used to play it on C-64 and ZX Spectrum. Atari 800 version is quite close to this one. There are also those remakes for the Amiga and ST. But man, this music - owns them all... well, it's Commodore 64...
of course, in compare to todays pc games this games s graphic were not very good, (but graphic s not all), but this games at this times had a soul (last ninja 1 and 2, international karate and many others) and they are still in my soul and will be forever, i got my commodore c64 on christmas 1989 and i often still think about it 🥰
You think that's bad... I had cassette games for my Atari 8-bit that regularly took 13-15 minutes to load. Ace of bloody Aces took 25 minutes to load on tape (probably because it was originally developed with the disk-based US market in mind).
Hey the composer is called Rob Hubbard a legend of the c64 ...you can find the original and great remixes of it at a site called RKO the def giude to C64 music...google it for endless amounts of great music!
Looks as if the C64 version was pretty similar to the Atari version in one respect- they were as easy as heck to complete after you'd done it once. I notice you didn't use the "cheat" of leaving the room, then coming back in so that your thrown weapons were in more convenient (random) places to collect them.
Not as laughably quirky or lush as, 'The Last Ninja'. But certainly better, more straightforward fighting quality than 'Karateka'. My friend had a C64 and I had an Atari 800XL. Strangely, neither one of us knew about this game at the time. And that includes spending hours on BBS's going through endless lists of games to 'borrow' on floppy or tapes(lol). Good find.
I actually liked Karateka's slow, thoughtful execution of moves. I found it soothing. And hilarious when at the end of the game, if you accidentally ran into the room of the girl you were supposed to save, or entered in a fighting posture, she's stab you to death in a single move and you were instakilled.
Was that the end!! Oh my I thought you had to search for a secret room or something to rescue the princess. Oh man im so depressed now. At least ive seen how it ends!
The music of this game is still in my head 40 years after
So many C64 titles just replay over and over for me too.
Same here, will stay forever in my Head!
It is ❤
Me too lol
like a boss. I remember working for my grandfather in the scrapyard and saving every dollar I made to purchase the c64 along with the disk drive. This was the first game I purchased. and it was my first game too.my aunt give me some money, for play in comp club,it was a mirracle for a little boy
You could >buy< C64 games??
It’s amazing how well the human memory is. I’m 37 and probably played this when I was 5 on my C64. I remember the music very clearly lol
The first video game I was hooked on. I remember sitting at school, tapping my toes, ready to come back home to play this. The music was epic, very funky and very cool transitions. Also first game I finished ;)
I loved this game when I was 5 and still remembered the music! Thank your for the video!
This is in my top soundtracks ever. I'd just boot the game, crank the volume and stand there.
this is why youtube is great. i just watched part of my childhood.
I loved this game when I was a kid! Awesome playthrough, I doubt I ever finished it though. That ninja is one bad dude!
Omg a serious blast from the past!!
Yeah it is! I remember playing this and Below the Root at a friend's house on his dads computer and we were like 6 or 7 at the time, blown away by the graphics because we were used to playing on an Atari 2600
The best martial arts game on the C64 by far, but it seems not so well known as others.
What! I didn't know you had to return to the beginning to "win" the game! Ahhhh! Nice replay! Thanks for solving an old mystery for me!
This takes me back. So many times playing this game. Completed it a couple of times too.
I liked it how some of the enemies didn't even react by the time you had walked up to them and knocked them out with a fly kick.
This game is very fast played, but i always loved it, i guess its because its dark mood and mysterious one. But what I really loved, that the program saved in its memory the stars who went to the next room, or remind the dead bodies. This was amazing back than.
This was on my first tape, what i brought in 1994... nice memories....
I like that bird flying in background
omg this brings back so many memories!!
It was a beauty wasn't it ?
This game is legendary!
it all looks so very simple now, but i remember playing this for days until i finally got it beat as a kid :D
Played this when I was 4-5 years old. I remember going into a room with 5-6 bad guys waiting. Scared the shit out of me
Mastertronic made budget games. It was only $8 bucks in Canada, back when a game like Ultima 3 was selling for, I kid you not, $79.99!

One of my favorites! The music is simply superb!!!
Great game!!!
Huh, forgot that this game was that short.
Always loved the music from the game.
I get this one confused with another one where you are attacked by dogs and can hide out in ventilation shafts.
Saboteur?
Thanks for posting this. Ninja, MicroProse AH-64 Apache and The Movie Monster Game are the games I remember most from the Commodore 64.
Awesome budget title. Great atmosphere
This is a cultic game with cultic sound track never gets old.

I found the secret room. You have to press into one of the walls on the right either on the 2nd or 3rd floor of dojo.
This was always a favorite back in the day. never knew exactly what I was supposed to do, but this was back before there was an internet or UA-cam to show us what you were supposed to be doing as you played, lol! Thanks for sharing this!
Good game, good music. Can't believe it's from Mastertronic.
So I'm was born in 88 and well growing up I didn't have game systems. My grandma had a commodore 64 with this game and the beach head trilogy. So playing this was partially my first exposure to video games.
This was actually one of the better mastertronic games that was worth the money
I can play part of this on my guitar. I love this game so much.
What an awesome Soundtrack!
i always loved the ambient and the music.. but ialways manage to complet it in 9 minutes lol
00:53 made me lol
thanks for the memories i played this when i was 8 or something. good stuff
Been searching for this game for a very long time. Always remembered the farting sound as the enemy flattened like a pancake. Funniest thing as a 5 year old playing this.
*_Approaching Red Door_*
It's blue. The door is blue.
No problem it's easy to remember as I spent so many hours as a kid playing these games so there burned into my memory, that and I still have my c64
I have played this game when i was young but i had not finished this game until I saw this video , the player should come back to the gateway
Belive it or not the amiga version called Ninja Mission was also an arcade game
This game reminds me of leafing through well loved copies of 'Ninja' magazine, pining for a sword. Now you can buy swords at the mall for a weeks worth of allowance. Gah, I was born 20 years too early.

Fun game back in the day
Love this game

I loved this game
I remember playing this game on my old IBM compatible.
Haven't seen this game in a while.
HA, i remember this game and "approaching torii in the sea", but couldn't remember the title. now i found it. maybe that's just nitpicking, but why is the red door blue, lol?
Pretty cool when I first played it.3 shuriken stars and you were sure to kill any enemy. Then back off and repeat. The bad guys never stood a chance.
Unbelievable game.
Seen some old favorites, didn't see Ninja for C64 on here. Would you consider that a beat em up? I do
This game is good on all systems. I used to play it on C-64 and ZX Spectrum. Atari 800 version is quite close to this one. There are also those remakes for the Amiga and ST. But man, this music - owns them all... well, it's Commodore 64...
Pretty sure that I never made it past the window room! Wonder if the disk is still good??? Hmmm....
i loved this game :-)

hehe nice vid. This walkthru makes it look so easy
But as an 8 year old, this game was nails :(
You think that's bad... I had cassette games for my Atari 8-bit that regularly took 13-15 minutes to load. Ace of bloody Aces took 25 minutes to load on tape (probably because it was originally developed with the disk-based US market in mind).
oh my god i used to have this...memories
Hey the composer is called Rob Hubbard a legend of the c64 ...you can find the original and great remixes of it at a site called RKO the def giude to C64 music...google it for endless amounts of great music!
Wow, I want to play in that game again, how can I do this?
Akuma’s first appearance
I loved it's music...
found it again yes!
In these years ninjas were the real mutherfackers deals.
repeating flying kick is enough
Memories... :)
Why use somr Player a Trainer Mode? It's a lovely Game. My first with own walkthrough :)
I got a copy of this game but my ninja doesn't move when its loaded up
Looking for a longplay of this game but all I can find is under 5 minutes long..
I remember my friend and I laughing our ass off because it sounded like he ripped a big fart every time he killed a bad guy.
The music sounds a lot more sophisticated than the Atari 8-bit version.
two words: Rob Hubbard
Look for C64 emulators.
Phew, this game brings back memories.
Looks as if the C64 version was pretty similar to the Atari version in one respect- they were as easy as heck to complete after you'd done it once. I notice you didn't use the "cheat" of leaving the room, then coming back in so that your thrown weapons were in more convenient (random) places to collect them.
... i love the music and the game..
btw. better don`t use your sword against another ninja... ;)
Not as laughably quirky or lush as, 'The Last Ninja'. But certainly better, more straightforward fighting quality than 'Karateka'. My friend had a C64 and I had an Atari 800XL. Why does the ninja fart every time he kills a bad guy?
Do u know where I can buy this game?
lol i use to love that game!
Is there some1 who can get this game to work on a pc? I really want to play this game 1 last time! :)
my game doesn´t have sound :,(
this soundtrack should be in a Tarantino film.
It sounds like it maybe Fist 2
Was this the same game that was infamously awarded 0/10 in Commodore User?
Or was it something like 'Ninja Warrior', or similar?
Appotraching tori in the sea!
the music always sounded like a little furry animal singing "gna gna gna"...
what does karateka mean.
Was that the end!! Oh my I thought you had to search for a secret room or something to rescue the princess.
Oh man im so depressed now.
At least ive seen how it ends!
I used to pretend the ninja was Storm Shadow from Cobra.
I always killed everyone mostly using the sword. Good memories, aah. :D
LOL! "winner!"
