  • So glad to see my little UA-cam Channel reaching 3000 subscribers. To celebrate the moment I put together this scene in Unreal Engine 5 over the weekend using its Nanite and Lumen features. Also, wanted to explore the workflow between Unreal and Houdini. Thanks to Engtama for awesome tutorials.
Couldn't get a smooth export and import from Houdini to Unreal so I had to bring the geo to Blender first. Geometry caching in Unreal is still in the experimental phase so I anticipated that, maybe the Houdini engine would have been a better option.
Things were pretty easy on the Unreal side. It's quite incredible how much geo you can load with Nanite. Lumen was fun to experiment with. There is some flickering happening in shadows but I am not sure how to solve it may be fiddling with the raytracing and post-processing setting could solve it. Learned so much though.
The scene was captured at 64 samples with raytracing on using an RTX 3090. Thanks to the movie render queue which helps to output passes and get a much more high-quality render. Did some Niagra particles system for the floating dust in the background. Thanks for watching.

You exported ABC from Houdini -> Blender then exported abc back to UE4 from Blender?

Yeah. I couldn't get a smooth export from Houdini to UE

@@jalpranjal ill have to try that. I was setting the geometry export accuracy setting in unreal. , cant remember right now. But its like particle separation in ue4 to like 0.000000005 to get smooth but it made a supppper dense mesh, itwas heavy and took forever. To process in unreal. It worked to make it smooth but i think your workflow might work better. Thank you again.

At what point does unreal engine delete the need for traditional rendering?

Not sure if it was ever in the list.
