ABOUT:
Hi, I'm Wendy, and I have been on a sewing journey ever since my mom taught me how to make little outfits for my dolls. I studied engineering and business, had an office job for two years, and then quit to embark on a lifelong sewing adventure on UA-cam. Subscribe to join me on the adventure, and maybe make your own clothing too! Thanks for watching ❤️
I've been sewing for over 30years and I love the way the new generation isn't afraid to "break the rules" in sewing. I will definitely be trying this out. Thanks for posting.
So even though this is 8 years old, you won the awesome sauce award for today! I can't wait to fix all the shirts I love but refuses to wear because they are crew.
I bought a bunch of t-shirts from a resale shop but they are all crew neck. Crew neck shirts make me feel like I am choking. I was so happy I found your wonderful video. I will be fixing my shirts this afternoon! Thanks!!!!
Crew necks make me choke too
thanks
Same pinch!
youre probably getting them too small
I hate that feeling as well lol
As long as I’ve been sewing, and making my own patterns I should’ve thought of this on my own. Lol
Sometimes I think UA-cam is making my brain lazy. I do appreciate you sharing this method! Thanks!
Yeah! Usually I go to a fabric store that carries knits and ask if they have the kind that is already into tubes, it's similar to the ribbed fabric used for tank tops and waistbands.
This is GENUS!!! this is stuff you don't learn in fashion school haha. I love this. its soo easy! this takes the fear out of working with knits. thanks! love this.!
Thank you so much! I really struggle with the bottom of the "V", I can do it and it look fabulous! If you ever re-do the video maybe you could use contrasting colors, I struggle seeing the exact steps but, Whoohoo! Success! Thank you truly!
I just did a test run on one of my husband's old crew neck tees which he only wears around the house, and I'm really pleased with the result. Although I typically buy a deeper vee in RTW, this will be perfectly modest for a group tee I'm wearing for a church event.
Great idea, I’ll practice on one of my tee shirt that no longer fits. I did struggle with the black shirt Wendy was working on, a lighter colour may of helped. However I now know how to do a v neck, thanks to Wendy. I find a V neck more comfortable to wear.
I just finished re-modeling my crew neck long-sleeve shirt to appear as a v-neck. I have to say, your tutorial made me find other ways to overlap the ends of the collar. I liked it!! came out great for a first-time!
10,000 thank yous!! I not only am fixing all my concert tees, but I lowered a neckline for my 95 year old mom, and we're both thrilled with the results! Keep posting your videos, please!
You did a great job with the instructions. I have so many T-shirt’s that I would wear if they were v-neck so thank you so much for showing us.
An oldie but a goody! You haven't changed in making clear and fun videos that are easy to follow. I'm glad I found this to transform one of my shirts.
Almost a whole six years after the video is posted, but I wanted to say Thank You! All of the shirts we get at work are crew neck, so I'd spend pretty much the entire day tugging the collar down. I practiced on two t-shirts first before modifying my work shirts and it helps so much! One coworker asked if I had the emblem printed on a v-neck. Her reaction when I told her I did it myself was priceless!
So, thanks ^_^
Brilliant! I've been searching through youtube videos for ages to find someone teaching how to do a finished altered neckline on tee's - thank you for much for posting!
Awesome job, I hate the rounded necks and have a closet of t-shirts I buy to support various school functions and never wear...new project :-)
Thank you for posting this video. Yours certainly looks like it's the most professional conversion out there. As I sit here with my sewing machine trying to do this, I've noticed that you skip out on exactly how you pin the tip of the V. I really would have appreciated your showing how you pinned that part and explaining the pinning and the sewing of the V a bit more step-by-step, since this is the reason why your V-neck looks so great. Thanks!
Excellent tutorial! I've given away so many shirts because of the rounded neck. I'm going to try this - can't wait!
Thanks so much! I have searched all over for a tutorial that doesn't just leave a cheap looking raw edge. Happy to have found this
Thank you beautiful. Helped a lot. Now I just need to learn how to sew
Keeping my fingers crossed that I don't mess this up. Thanks for the video. The finished neckline is just what I'm aiming for.
You just made my life easier! I've been trying to figure out how to do this. You are a genius.
Shirt came out perfectly! Thank you!
Really great tutorial. I bought a t-shirt at a concert, but the one I wanted wasn't available anymore in S so I had to take M... Therfore I sew it tighter and made the round collar to a v.neck with the help of your video. I'm just beginning to saw, but this video made it easy for me to complete this project. Thanks! :*
Aaww! Look how young you look. Now you’re a mom. Still an awesome tutorial a whole decade later. I’m rejuvenating a few of my old shirts now thanks to this video. ❤️
Thank you, you've assisted the rare species of men that can sow and I can't thank you enough
I love this, it's exactly what I was looking for but I don't know how to use a sewing machine
Pretty cool. This might work well on shirts with streched-out collars.
Thank you so much!!!!😍🤩💓💖💓💖 I love the result and you make the directions easy to follow.
Finding this is going to help me SO much in a few day. Give me straight sturdy broadcloth or even silky sari fabric and I'm happy as can be. Stretch Jersey and I get all flummoxed and out of sorts. This handle my need so perfectly as I work as making as much on my winter wardrobe as possible and I seemed to be haunted with crew neckline patterns. Which..... no. If my choice is crew or nothing, I'll just find my good bra or heavyweight bodice! Thanks so very much for making things so completely clear and simple to imitate.
Great tutorial, I shared this to my sewing group a few weeks ago, and today got to try it out, Thank you , now I can buy tshirts to change and wear them out
Thank you so much for posting this! I've been looking for a way to make my shirts into a v-neck while keeping the "store bought" look. Looking forward to watching your other videos!
Good clear instructions, Wendy. Thanks!
Thanks. I've been too lazy to do this before. You may want to do contrasting colors for the sewing noobs though. I know you're actually wearing these shirts though. As long as your inside stitches are small you shouldn't see them unless the ribbing flips out. I can use you as an example for my daughter. She's not thrilled to be getting sewing lessons this year. She's ten but I can tell she'll be six feet tall like me. They don't make a lot of clothes for us out there that actually fit. This is an easy beginner lesson for her.
Thank you. I did this following your instructions, and it worked great!
ok im going to do that this week and let you know if i have any luck! thanks Wendy!
I had never heard of this before. Pretty cool. I will have to give it a try. Thanks!
Thank you!!! I bought a cute thrifted shirt that I loved so much, but the crew neck was weirdly tight... I tried following your tutorial and it looks so much better on me now! I love it! Thank you!
Great tutorial! Just wish it wasn't on a black shirt, got a little confused at the end.
Thank you for this tutorial. I followed it and was able to make a crew neck that I didn't like into a v-neck that looks so much better on me. Nice job!
Thanks Wendy! I just followed your tutorial to change a scoop neck tank into a v neck!
i was like in the middle of writing a literature short paper with more than 20 tabs on and suddenly i'm here lol i dont even have any sewing kit in the dorm rn but the urge to do this is strong. *flips papers*
***** You can do it! Cheering you on as you write your paper!!

I bought my mom a crew neck shirt for her birthday and am only just now remembering she hates crew necks. I'm going to give this a shot! Seems simple enough
I had a thyroidectomy and neck dissection (thyroid cancer), and the scars can sometimes make wearing normal crewnecks pretty uncomfortable. This is tuto is a lifesaver! I have cut the 'V' too deep once or twice, but I figured out that if you free a little more of the existing collar back past the shoulder seam, then there's more to stretch and you don't need to buy any fabric
Only inside out while seam ripping the front collar, otherwise the rest can be done right side out. Feel free to message me if you have any questions!
Clear and concise. Thank you.
Thanks Wendy, great tutorial. I used this to change an expensive blouse from a crew to a v neck and it worked perfectly!
best video ive seen on how to do this
Wonderful idea. Thanks for sharing with us.
Worked just like a charm. Thanks for the detailed info. Also the close-up camera work was very helpful!!
I HATE round neck t-shirts. What a great way to turn all of my t-shirts into v-necks.
Amazing tutorial! My roommate and I both prefer V necks, but it's so hard to find the shirts he prefers with the v neck. Now I can just sew them for him!
I removed the crewneck altogether and went with the cut you did at 1:30ish, this tee feels so much more "airy". If I get another crewneck I'll try the whole process and hope it looks as good as yours
Loved this, Wendy! Excellent tutorial.
Mine may not look AS professional, as yours, but I'll give it a shot just the same! Lol.
Thank you so much!
I just tried this technique, and it was quick and easy! Thank you, Wendy! Praise God for you! Please keep the tutorials coming :)
Wow, thank you so much 🌟 It took me ages to find a decent video about this with instructions on finishing.
Of course! This tutorial is just if you want to keep the collar look =)
YOU. ARE. A. GODDESS. YES. YOU. WENDY.
Great tutorial! I've had so many people ask me how to do this so I will be sharing it on my facebook page :)
wow, you are great at making tutorials
Seems very easy, will be giving this one a try. Thanks for the tutorial! I love your videos
I love v necks! Thank you
this was a great video ive been looking for a more professional looking v neck tutorial! :D
Thank you so easy. And also your just made me happy listening to you haha.
Excellent tutorial! You are so wise for your years. Many thanks!
Dear Wendy, you did a GREAT jib, and this is the best tutorial. You inspired me and all I wanted was a tip about notching a round collar! :-D Amituofo
Best one I have seen so far!
Good video but no offense next time can you move the next episode sub title from the middle of the screen so we can see the V-neck part
Good point!
However the vneck at the end is the same that she shows in the beginning of the video, so you can see the finished project really well there.
I don't know how to get the v then I think I'm sewing it together wrong
Wendy thanks for the video, this will help get all my crew neck shirts out of the drawer!
Yes it is, it just takes longer and probably needs the help of more pins to hold everything in place while you sew.
This is awesome. My first trial made my v-neck like a curve collar.
This was amazing, and the finishing looks great! Thank you!
My shirt is now pretty cool lol thanks! This worked out wonderfully!
Anna Llamas So glad to hear it worked! :)
withwendy This was a charming video and also helped me a great deal. This young lady reminds me of my nieces and her video is nearly 100% professional. I am thinking of that girl who made a video tutorial that was basically "rip the collar, ta-da!!! Ain't I cuuuute??" Here this young lady is a pro, but the lighting and her speech needed some professional help.
Wish I had the ability but the hands gave up on me long ago.....
This is a great tutorial! Thanks so much! Exactly what I was looking for!
Brilliant! Really appreciate the pithiness. Thank you!!
I have a ton of crewneck T-shirts and I always prefer a v-neck so I wasn't sure how to avoid getting rid of what I have and starting over. I'm definitely going to try this. Thanks for making this tutorial!! =D
Best tutorial ever!
Very helpful! THANK YOU
This is great now I know this possible and I'm going to turn all my t-shirts into v-necks. I hate the feeling of getting choked by my shirts when the hole is too small. Using this video and another one I'm going to be able to have the perfect shirts :D
THANK YOU!!!!! Just finished mine and it looks great!
Great Video. My only feedback is the final project was covered up by the Logo at the end. I didn't even get to see the final results :(
@nm7kneeslapper Yup this is an updated version, I'm glad it's much clearer for you!
Thanks Wendy! So easy..your tutorial worked great!
Great idea. Love the thought of this. Would be awesome if you could do this again, but with a light colored shirt and also use a different colored thread. Something that appears to be so simple is turning into quite a frustrating confusing task. Parts of this video are very difficult to see/understand with the black shirt/thread. Thanks!
Very good tutorial
exactly what I was looking for, and thought I was outta luck finding a tutorial, great job, thanks so much, I subscribed!
This is so good and you're so nice.
Like, you don't understand how many tutorials I've seen where they leave the edges raw, so thank you. Lol yes it defo looks ''Store bought'' :]
This is the reason why I need to buy a seam ripper *and* pins😂
Right now, I use a box cutter and sewing needles as subs.
Pins are definitely useful, but not all crafters like seam rippers! Some avoid them because a seam ripper can easily poke through fabric and rip the wrong thing. A little pair of thread snips is a common go-to instead.
That said, I admire your ingenuity.
Cotton or polyester would do just fine, all the best to ya!
Nice! Thank you! Not too fast, and love the explanations!
i love this !! so simple and easy !!!! thank you !
What a great job ill be trying this thank u for sharing
Very nice and well done! It was easy to follow what you were doing.
Thanks
Great instructions, great execution, and great video!
Try on an old shirt.. rip off the ribbing, but leave it attached at the shoulders, cut your V like she said... then stretch the ribbing out and pin it along your new shape. just follow the cut line... when done top stitch it along the bottom and that will make the neck lay better. I am sure you will like this way better.
Great tut! Thanks!
great way to do this. so easy to follow. very helpful!
You are so charming :) I am happy I've found your channel, as you explain everything in a simplified form for beginners like me :). Thank you for your work.
Smartly designed
Thank you for this most awesome video!!!! i just changed a sweatshirt out and it ended up perfect!!! ♥
Hey there,
I am totally lost at the part when you create the v with the collar. I don't understand what end you are sewing to what side and what the different pins are representing. Can you send me some info? Thanks!
This is exactly what in needed! Thank you for this super helpful tutorial!
