Seeing the love Metroid Dread has gotten from so many gaming outlets and gamers alike is really heartwarming. I've always dreamed about Metroid being in the true spotlight for the right reasons again (just like Prime almost 20 years ago) and Dread absolutely did just that and then some. Get well soon Jirard, rest and defeat that dreaded bug. Honorable mention: Returnal is a fantastic game that should be praised more imo. It came out of nowhere and it became a hit out of nowhere. Housemarque did an outstanding job with that one.
I got dread for Christmas, it’s pretty fun but I’m kinda bad at navigating because of how big the areas are and how many things affect the environments. The emmis are also mad scary, very cool enemies
I'm not a huge Metroid player, but after Dread, I want to dive into the entire series. What a fantastic game. I've previously only finished Metroid Zero, Fusion and Prime 3.
@@BreadCatMarcus You have to do yourself a favor and play Super Metroid. It was the one who pioneered an entire genre. A lot of people speak highly of it and for good reason. And after you finish it, watch a Speedrun (wether any% or 100%) and prepare to be blown away. And then there are the first two Prime games. Highly recommend those as well. If you have a GameCube or a wiiu, maybe pick those up or wait a bit since it appears that those games will be brought on the switch as a trilogy remaster. Or at least there are rumors of a prime remake coming.
Get well soon, Jirard. I always look forward to your year-end list because I feel I'm very in sync with you when it comes to the kind of games I enjoy playing the most.

PSYCHONAUTS! I am so so happy about this game and I am so happy that it made it on your list. Psychonauts has so much heart and personality that it's well worth a play! Thank you so much for all that you have done and all that you do, Jirard and TOVG crew, I hope this new year is particularly awesome for you.
My top 5 for games I played this year are 1. Bloodborne 2. Silent Hill 2 3. Persona 5 (not finished, in the 5th palace) 4. Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance 5. Hitman 3 (2016+2 included)
My UA-cam lineup mostly consists of people who play or talk about mostly Nintendo games. So, when I come to your channel for a top 10, it usually looks a lot different from everyone else's. But this year, quite a few of the games were the same, which speaks to the quality that people who only have a Switch got to enjoy this year.
So glad you put no more heroes 3 on the list! By far one of my favorite games of all time! Def didn't have the most polish, but I had a shit load of fun with it
As a fellow Lebanese-American, I totally agree with you that seeing Josef take the stage to accept the GOTY award was super cathartic. Amazing stuff, truly a deserving game made by an amazing studio.
Yeah I think Metroid Dread is my number 1 too but that’s mainly down to it being one of the few, new, original games I played this year. I don’t count Pokémon since it’s a remake.
I just got over Covid myself, and it was not fun especially the first few days. Hope you get better Jirard, you all are awesome and this is still one of my favorite channels.
Rest up, Jirard! The list was wonderful, everything absolutely deserving to be here. Nice to hear Chicory was the game chosen from IndieLand too, that's an unexpected bonus.
No one's going to know my favorite game of this year but Super Robot Wars 30 totally blew me away. I absolutely adore that game and encourage anyone who's into SRPGs like Fire Emblem/Disgaea to try it out.
I absolutely respect your opinion. I'm just disappointed Hitman 3 wasn't even mentioned on this list. Hitman 3 is such a great, well crafted game. Level designs and all the mechanics are top tier. So much content and the developers are working to make it even better in 2022. Again, I respect your list and your opinion. I just feel you didn't get the chance to play Hitman 3 this year and that's why it was missed. It's a very rewarding game for a completionist so try it out when you can!
Io devs can take a hike. The dlc content for H3 has been crap and they never fixed some features that they advertised the game with that are broken like HDR and the audio dropping out in the ps5 version. They have proved they don't give a shit about their game once they have our $$.
Speaking personally, it's a bit of a toss-up between RE Village and Metroid Dread. I love both so much to the point where I actually tried to speedrun Village which I've never done for any other RE game. I think Dread beats it out a little bit though.
“Mini-boss”! Love that analogue. I also faced this mini-boss that tried to act like a BOSS, but failed miserably. The battle lasted less than 28 hours. I don’t think the mini-boss will ever come back…hopefully!

Some really inspired choices this year! Really wish I had gotten to more of the indie titles released this year, but I still enjoyed quite a bit of stuff. Monster Hunter Stories, NEO: The World Ends With You, Guilty Gear Strive, Metroid Dread and more. So glad to see Re:Village getting the retribution that it deserves. I also didn't like the video because of the reasons you stated but I'm happy to see that you loved it despite all of that. It's my personal #2 game of the year right behind Monster Hunter Rise.
To me, Metroid Dread is as near perfect a gaming experience I've had since Hades in 2020. For me it was the best game of 2021, and it kind of wasn't even close. A Nintendo switch masterpiece up there with breath of the wild and super Mario Odyssey in my eyes. Even though it was pretty highly acclaimed and sold very well, I don't really see it topping a lot of game of the year lists or awards like it should be
Guardians of the Galaxy and Halo don't seem to be in Jirard's wheelhouse of genres he enjoys but they definitely deserve mentions on an overall list that isn't his personal selections
Awesome to see so many great indies earn a spot on your top 10 list!! So much great stuff came out in 2021 that I'll be completing quite a few of them well into 2022. Thanks for all you do! Excited to see what the new year brings for the channel.
Gute Besserung (get well soon) from Germany, Jirard. I was still getting to know your channel when you put out last years Top 10, when lockdowns made me dive into UA-cam beyond just music and trailers (I...am a bit late to the party, yes X3 knew you from Big Bad Bosses though, so that's at least something) but by now you're one of my top youtubers. I'm not a completionist myself, but I always find your videos helpful to figure out if a game I wanted to buy is worth it (like with Hyrule Warriors - DE, which I won't be completing, but it's good to know I'll always have stuff to get back to with the game), and a bunch games from this Top 10 are on my list thanks to you. So, thanks for a good year of gaming recommendations, and once again, Gute Besserung...and also Guten Rutsch into 2022
Whew. Hope you recover completely from the plague! Covid ain't fun. I hope you get on your feet soon. The fact that you pushed out another video is amazing. But if you need a break to recover, we'll understand!
My GotY is “It Takes Two,” which is shocking considering it’s co-op only, and a co-op only game has never before been my favorite of the year. It kept pleasantly surprising me throughout the entire experience. Psychonauts 2 is a close second.

Metroid Dread is my favorite game of this year. Just to put into perspective how good Metroid Dread is, I’m not a Metroid fan. I don’t have the series, but I’ve never had a reason to care about it. I got the game on a whim while on a trip to GameStop and I beat it that same week. I’m not a completionist and Metroid Dread probably isn’t the game I’m going to start with when I become one, but I already started my second playthrough
Glad you liked it! Even better - you can catch up the rest of the franchise now, since they're mostly great games! :) Zero Mission, Samus Returns, Super Metroid, Fusion, all great 2D titles in the same vain as Dread. To me, Metroid Dread is as near perfect a gaming experience I've had since Hades in 2020. For me it was the best game of 2021, and it kind of wasn't even close. A Nintendo switch masterpiece up there with breath of the wild and super Mario Odyssey in my eyes. Even though it was pretty highly acclaimed and sold very well, I don't really see it topping a lot of game of the year lists or awards like it should be
I’m so sorry to hear that you have Covid, Jirard. I really hope you get better.
cheers, dude. And keep killing it on the content!
Guardians of the Galaxy and Halo don't seem to be in Jirard's wheelhouse of genres he enjoys but they definitely deserve mentions on an overall list that isn't his personal selections
Dude its halo. Since halo combat evolved came out the industry has done fps to death, revived it, killed it, and revived it once again
RE8 is on that list and that's now just a first person shooter...
Guardians of the Galaxy, imo, wasn't as good as any of the games on this list. Still great. Maybe a honorable mention.
Great to see Deaths Door in your top 10!
So, thanks for a good year of gaming recommendations, and once again, Gute Besserung...and also Guten Rutsch into 2022
Oh man, please get well soon. Saw you at Fanime 2019, made me a fan ever since.
Whew. Hope you recover completely from the plague! Covid ain't fun. I hope you get on your feet soon. The fact that you pushed out another video is amazing. But if you need a break to recover, we'll understand!
Same with Metroid dread. Completing this game and bringing your time down was so satisfying
My GotY is “It Takes Two,” which is shocking considering it’s co-op only, and a co-op only game has never before been my favorite of the year. It kept pleasantly surprising me throughout the entire experience. Psychonauts 2 is a close second.
I enjoy your content since your beginning and you are still one of my top content creators on youtube today. Take care of yourself, do what you love to do and get well soon! Best wishes from Germany
I hope you’re feeling better Jirard! Happy holidays to everyone at the completionist and beard bros :)
I'm sorry to hear that you got Covid. wishing you, and those around you who may have also contracted Covid, just a mild case and a speedy recovery!
This year not only had amazing games to play, but a friend of mine sold me his PS4 and for the first time ever, I explored on so many games outside from my comfort zone from Nintendo. I became a fan of Resident Evil, Uncharted, and play more Sonic games that I wasn't able to play before (Sonic Generations).
Hope you're feeling better Jirard!
Dude I can totally hear Hot-Head Bop from DKC2 DKQ at the end there. What a banger!
Also awesome video!
Get well soon Jirard!
Hope you and the Team have had a good festive break!
You are the only one I follow that gave Toodee & Topdee its due and I thank you for it. Loved that game.
I think his reviews of videos are a nice refreshing take of the older style of game reviews ( im actually jus typing the first thing i see that pops up in my suggestions
Respect for addressing the re8 video. You certainly didn’t have to and shouldn’t feel bad but that’s very mature of you all. Good stuff
You are the only creator I know of that pronounces SUDA-51 properly. Respect my boi!
really hope you feel better man. Onto next year with better health, and maybe, better games.
Loved the list! Sad to see Inscryption didn't make the cut, but I think this is a solid snapshot of good games this year!
I only played a handful of 2021 games but here is my top 5 favourite games of 2021:
5-Kena: Bridge of Spirits
4-Life is Strange: True Colours
3-Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy
2-Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart
1-It Takes Two (which is in my top 5 favourite ever videogames)
I hope you get well soon Jirard, we are all here with you every step of the way! Peace and love and have a Happy New Year!!!😃👍☮️❤️
Get well Bro! Much love from Germany!
Man, I forgot about these games. But watching this video made me feel more positive about gaming this year. Thanks so much!
How do you spell the game at 15:09? I keep trying to Google it because it looks like my style, but I can't find anything on it anywhere.
When u find it please tell us
I missed 8 of your videos. Damn, UA-cam’s notification system is truly broken. Time to go back and watch all of them.
Hey Jirard! You Are directly responsible for getting me to try out new indie games (i.e. Shovel Knight and Owl Boy), so I'm gonna give Death's Door a go as well! Thanks for a great year of videos!
Whoa the last 8 seconds of this video had the Hot-Head Hop theme from Donkey Kong Country 2 but in Metroid style. Jirard always fitting DKC in all his videos haha nice one
I feel like “Top 10 games of 2021” and “Top 10 games to complete of 2021” should be 2 separately judged lists”
I’m not usually someone who really focuses on graphics, but NMH3 is pretty hard to look at
Very happy to hear you’re still in good health!
Love end of the year countdowns!
Bro please I hope you feel better, I missed your content, love ya man!
Hope you get better soon. You guys are amazing!!
Jirard: “There was no game that fans waited longer than for Psychonauts 2”
Metroid fans: “Hold my G-Fuel”
Hold my Dz-Nauts.
And of course there is the Prime trilogy which is also amazing. You'll have a lot of fun with all these. ;)
As a MetroidVania buff, I personally gotta say It takes Two definitely blew my mind. My personal GOTY.
Sorry to hear you got Covid, Jirard. But brave of you to finish up this video in spite of that.
Stay safe and healthy out there, and hope you get better.
