Not to mention Dean DeLeo is one of the most creative and underrated guitar players ever.
For sure. He and his brother who is a great player as well and comes up with a lot of the material too.
Absolutely one of my favorite songs EVER! Scott absolutely slays on the live acoustic version.
For sure!
The tone was dead on and the instruction was top notch! Thank you!
Awesome! Glad you liked it! Thanks for watching!
Tone to the extreme...sounds amazing!!
Thanks!
Love you dude! Some of those parts I wouldn't have figured out for years - THANK YOU!!!
Awesome! Thanks for checking it out Dan!
Took me a while for some reason to recognize how badass STP is and all the great songs they made.
They are so good!
That tone is SICK!!!! lol. I need to get an attenuator for my Fender Twin. I'll bet it could sound amazing. Nice to see a new song lesson Brett! I learned several songs from you a long time ago that I still play 'cause the songs rock and you taught them well. "Panama", "Lonely Is The Night", "Hold On Loosely" to name a few. I need to learn this one too eventually. So many songs, so little time!
I recently tracked a guitar player who brought a Fender Twin with him. We ran it through a Suhr load box and turned the Twin up to about 7, you're right it does sound amazing...The OX would be a better choice if you can afford it.
Awesome! Thanks for checking out the videos!!
That is a great sound too. Both of those are great choices but the OX is an entirely different beast! SO GOOD!!!
STP such a badass band. cool lesson
Thank ya sir!
My favorite STP tune.Been wanting to learn this all my life and you made it somewhat easy. Thanks Brother!
Awesome! Thanks for checking it out!
That gold top is killer...
Thanks!
That tone is spot on, Brett! Keep it up! Always loved your work!
Thanks man! Glad you like the vids!
@@BrettPapa You’re welcome!!
Hey Brett, that was killer!!! Such a fun song to play. I felt the same way as you about all the grunge bands killing the metal bands, but I have since grown to love most of the grunge bands. This is another fantastic lesson!!!
You are ripping it up Brother!!!
Yeah me too looking back I appreciate them all way more! Thanks for tuning in!
This is 3yrs old, but just want to say this is probably the best tutorial on this tune (there are a couple of other ones that are excellent) that I have seen. Thanks for getting it RIGHT!
Thanks! Thanks for checking it out. Glad you liked it!
What a great video, strangely I forgot all about STP, as cool as they where in the grunge era. I really like you videos, really cool even for us novices, even we can learn from them, by repetition and slow down playback. And great work getting all the cool guests on your channel.
Yeah there were some great bands in that era. Thanks for checking out the vids!
Amazing tone, you play it so perfectly. what an absolute pleasure to learn this from this video
Awesome! Glad you liked it!
True gib sound
That's an awesome lesson and your tone is insane! Thank you! Another great song from the 90's I would like to see you tackle is Fastball "The Way".
Thanks Edward! Glad you liked the video. I'll check out the song and see what I can do.
Such a wonderful tutorial! You are a great guitarist Mr. Papa! Thank you sir!
Thanks!
What a song! Well picked
Thanks!
17:30 for the second guitar
Great tune! Also plays very well on acoustic
Yep, for sure!
Just listened to the isolated track, sounds just like it! The playing and the ridiculously good tone.
Thanks for the effort and the great lesson!
That's because it *is* it, lols. The isolated track is the original guitar track on the record. _"Isolated track"_ just means that is the guitar track without the drums, bass, and vocal tracks etc. The guitar track isolated from all the other tracks.
@@aylbdrmadison1051 Yes, I am aware that the "Isolated Track" is the original guitar track from the original recording. What I was implying is that Brett's tone sounded just like the original "Isolated Track". Guess I should have been more clear about that, sorry.
Sure thing! Thanks for checking it out!
I understood what you were saying 😉
Beatifull guitar Brett! Good video!! Thanks!!!
Thanks!
What a great lesson man !!!! When you look at this, you realize what a great player/teacher you are, and as well, what a great player and composer Dean deLeo is. Thank you very much for your lesson !!!!
Sure thing! Glad you liked it! And yes Dean and his brother knew how to right some truly epic tunes!
The unplugged version is absolutely killer too!
Yeah for sure!
Damn damn damn. Dude. You nail this Brett. Love it. Late to the party in this, but oh my, I know what I’ll be working on this weekend. Gracias.
Awesome Dave! Glad you liked it!
That amazing Les Paul Tone!! Great lesson,Brett! Thanks, man👍👍
Haha thanks! Its a good one!
Your tone is incredible on this! I had to dial mine in better after hearing this. Also, I was playing that C# chord differently but realized the way you play it is the right way because you can hear the harmonics on the chokes.
Thanks man!
I fell in love with this song. I had the Album on CD. I learned to play all the songs, on my bass and acoustic and six string electric. A big accomplishment for me.
Big accomplishment for anyone. Those songs aren't easy!
Wow that guitar sounds good.
Thanks!
Brett you are the best teacher out there and there is only one guy who is as good but he does not teach and he is “JAMES JAMES” he shares your knack of making the mysterious really easy for knuckle draggers like me to learn so thankyou you will always have my support.
Haha thanks so much man! Glad you like the vids!
I'm still trying to burn the tips from your Scales Suck video into my brain (watched about 3 times now). This was a fantastic break and highlighted one of my favorite guitar players of the 90s. Thanks for the killer lesson!
Awesome! You are welcome! Thanks for checking out the vids!
The chord you don't know might be an Ebmaj7. Well done.
It is an Ebmaj7!! I loved that they used a maj7 in a heavy song.
@@jjzuc Their songs are packed with all kinds of cool chords. Very clever stuff.
Love this song. Great lesson Brett, thanks!
You are welcome! Thanks for tuning in!
You are loving that Gold Top Brett, which means so are we!
Haha!
Nice gold top Mr P. Remember learning this many many years ago, tabbed out in Guitar World magazine, I feel old
Why? The guys who wrote the tune were born in the 60's.
Haha! I know just how you feel!
This was a nice change of pace from the Hendrix course though obviously he had influence. It is fun to get below the surface of what sounds simple on radio and appreciate the elegance of the approach of the guitarist with respect to subtleties in rhythm. You explained it quite well...as usual..
Yeah he is a great player. There are some other isolated clips that are great that really make you realize what a great player he is. Thanks for watching!
Oh snap, Papa with the R4!!! Looking and sounding GREAT!
Thanks!
Thanks man for the tips on volume chorus and the live performance. It helps since I never played this song and have to perform this song in 2 daYS
Awesome! Good luck! Great tune!
That guitar and that tone are delicious Mate😎✌
Thank ya!
This was so helpful, thanks!
You are welcome!
Great lesson, Brett. Love that tone, too.
Thanks for checking it out Ben!
Your opening statement echoes my thoughts as well
Was just thinking about learning this around 2 hours ago
Haha! Well here ya go!
Sounds so good bro. Great lesson as always!
Thanks for checking it out!
Another great video, many thanks! You help to keep me motivated
Awesome! Thanks so much for checking it out!
Awesome lesson, thanks dude!
You are welcome! Thanks for watching!
Brett, what specific effect are you using on the Line6 M5? It's killer.
Love this lesson!
Thanks Nicolas!
Dean's playing so often reminds me of Jimmy Page. It's interesting that the DeLeo bros supposedly were both influenced by jazz fusion, and Jimmy Page took lessons from John McLaughlin, one of the earliest great fusion guitarists.
Yeah I can see that. He is a really great player!
Brett, it is nice you see you teaching this stuff again! Are you working on any projects you may want to share with us????
Got a couple in the works. Shhhhhhh, don't tell anyone lol!
Mate, good to see you with that R4 again. I just bought mine.
Me too! Pulled the trigger on that one. Couldn't let it go it was way to good!
Papastache got a Les Paul! WHOA, since when? Love it. Good lesson. thanks bro.
Haha! Got it about a month ago. Its so good!!!!
Favorite song of all time!
Its a great one!
You the man Papa
No you da man!
Great video man
Thanks Marcus!
thank you!!!!! Brett!!!
You are welcome!
Killer lesson!!!
Thanks! Glad you liked it!
I'm right there with ya Brett ! I can't stand Marble-Mouth Eddie Vedder and their sleep-inducing songs, but STP and AIC are a whole different Animal ;)
Haha!
Oh my, that tone.
Haha thanks! Well I am giving away the pedal in the next two weeks! Stay tuned!
Was just playing this last night!
Sweet!
Hey Papa...great stuff...if you plant your pinky on the 3rd fret 1st string for the intro it flows more naturally( no slide stuff) see GL365...he's does it correctly in my opinion...also Tuning is down a whole step...DGCFAD...Much closer to the real studio version...I know a lot of people turn up their nose to alternate tunings, I feel if you're going to cover a song why do it half ass. You wouldn't play the solo to Another Brick part 2 in the key of E when its for sure mostly in D Pentatonic ...anyway have fun bro
Thanks for checking it out. I used the isolated track in conjunction with about 20 STP live clips to piece it all together.
I miss the mustache. 🤘
I don't lol! Big sweating face all summer, no thanks haha! Thanks for watching!
Great Lesson!!
Thanks!!
P90s!!!!!!! Best pick ups ever. Sick tone in the intro
Yes!!!
Those p90s sound just lovely
I love P90's!!
huge sound man..
Thanks!
Those P90s sound great in that LP
Thanks!
That chord is called Eb maj 7
What is California Jam? Your hat. Is that something more than a famous concert? Thank you for the research on Plush! Great lesson!! 90's song request: "Get Back" by Zebrahead. Especially (because there are two guitars) the intro riff that is using a kill switch on the volume. Thanks Brett Pappa!
Sure thing! Cal Jam is an event my has every year in CA.
Thank you so much for the Break Down my friend...dang I almost didn't recognize you...
Sure thing Martin! Thanks for tuning in!
@24 mins. Brett suggests guitar players actually use their volume knob.... Internet explodes... The Gear Page Melts down.. 😂. Thanks Brett!👍🤘😎
Haha!
Thx, it would be cool if you called the chords by their names ie C/E or C 1st inversion. D# is Eb in G bc it's a flat VI chord. Chorus is an Eb∆7 over G. Beatles part in that middle section is very cool....
The pre-chorus riff is very similar to sections of Tom Sawyer by Rush.
Love this song !
Me too!
This sounds like when you did a video with Pete thorn about replicating the exact tones from albums.
Haha thanks!
You rock Mr stache 🤪🤟
Right back at ya!
Good evening, how are you? Do you will make other video concern blues?
I like so much your lesson
Sounds good!
EVH!! You ever do an “unchained” lesson I can send you a snippet you can easily make wonderful
I made one recently Thomas! Just search for it on the main channel page.
I see you still not letting go of the gold top Brett haha, sounds amazing as always.
Nope lol! I bought it! Its mine now!
@@BrettPapa Awesome congrats man, it really suits you!
Hi Brett! I have this song that I hoped you would check out; its “Crawl To Me - Ryan Tharp”. That is a great bluesy rock tone that you’ll enjoy and possibly make a tutorial in the future.
Best regards,
DM
GOOD TIMES.....'...HAPPY NEW YEAR from BRAZIL ...\0/
Happy New Year to you as well!
nice sound!!!!!
Thanks!
Superb
Glad you liked it! Thanks for tuning in!
Thanks bro.✌️
Sure thing!
Ty Brett
Papalicious!
Wooohoooo!
Great video Brett, thanks. You seem to have great access to a lot of these Nashville players, any chance of maybe getting Kenny Vaughn on here sometime?
Yeah I'll see what I can do.
I'd like to see a lesson on Blind Melon's "Galaxie"
Oh yeah, they have some great tunes!
0:38 i thought Rush was frowned upon a bit at that time 0:50 think that was the chord that gave it some original sauce
Could you do like a rolling stone Hendrix cover? There is not one lesson on UA-cam and as far as your Hendrix lessons go they are the best.
Hmmm, I'll check it out. Thanks!
Hello Mr Stache! Any word when that Hendrix course is coming out?
By November I think. Trying to get 3 courses done at the moment. Lots of editing lol!
Is that a 56 reissue? I’m looking at a P90 Gold top for my next guitar. I love that sound.
Not sure. Bought it off of a friend. Its called a R4. Love me some P90's lol!
@@BrettPapa that’s a 1954 custom shop reissue then. Badass guitar!!
GREAT WORK, WHAT GUITAR EFFECT DID YOU USED?
Thanks! Can't quite remember. I know that the chorus was from the line 6 M5.
Som maravilhoso
Indeed
Hi Brett, how are you? The chikas in between the chords in the chorus must be palm muted but the way your up and down strumming is very hard to tell, Correct?
I release the pressure off of my fretting hand.
Nice guitar dude. That new?
Thanks! Yeah got it about a month ago. Love it!
Way cool way, Brett. A huge help. Thanx,Bro
Iced coffee in the handled Mason jar?
J. Geils... "Back to get ya". I love the funk. I got the intro. Not the rhythm....
Thanks! Yes coffee in a jar haha!
11:25 - That's an EbMaj7
Dumb question- is this tuned down half step? Normally I can pick it up quick but this one I can’t tell (maybe it’s your brutal OD)! Thanks
Tuned in standard.
@@BrettPapa thanks Bret killer lesson especially on the transitions. Quick question I see most tabs noting playing the A string as a full G chord but when looking at you play looks like only Low E and muting A? (Just referring to the low E and A essentially in Dean dealeo G chord). Thanks
RIP Scot weiland
Yep, I miss that band!
dose he use a flanged chorus or just flanger in the song?
Chorus I believe. Lots! Also lots of multitracked guitars!
