I just read that American Girl have published a book on body image & it includes a chapter called ‘Gender Joy’ that explains how some people express their gender through clothes, hair, makeup etc. It also explains what ‘trans’ & ‘cis’ mean, & offers advice to kids who may be questioning their gender identity. I’ve read the chapter (for some reason there’s a PDF of it on TMZ of all websites if you’re interested in reading it) & I think it’s excellent. It’s really well researched (they consulted with medical experts & adolescent care professionals) & carefully written. But of course the anti-woke mob are up in arms & have announced all over their social media that they are boycotting AG until they remove the book from publication. Of course American Girl said no & I am living for it. I’m from the UK so I don’t have much knowledge about American Girl dolls, plus I hated dolls as a kid so I wouldn’t have been into them even if they were sold here (I was rebelling against gender norms before I knew the term ‘gender norms’ existed), but this makes me want to spend money I don’t have on them.
American Girl has always been sort of that way, having decent solid self-help advice that appeals generically and usually has a primarily white female perspective but still skews towards making as many groups feel included as they knew about. Which should be the bare minimum for self-help but kind of isn't, unfortunately.
The anti-woke mob is dumb AF. American Girl books when I was a kid was decently diverse! I identified so much with their character Josefina and i ADORED Addy's amazing escape from slavery and her tough time trying to fit in after freedom. I don't know how much these all hold up, but in early 2000s this was pretty awesome honestly. So nothing new from AG
WHAT IS THIS?!?!?!? I’ve been following Nick for two years, and just started watching your videos yesterday. Just stumbled across this and was like INSTANT SUB.
These books were a lifeline for me as a young kid 😭 I never had a good relationship with my mom so I'd hide in corners of bookstores and libraries trying to learn about wtf was going on. 😅 But they did definitely make me think growing up was going to be cooler. 🤣
I became a big fan of Nick's when he would actually give his ideas of what could make mediocre (or just plain bad) movies better. I feel like I'm actually learning things, plus he is hilarious.
Omg I can't believe this Collab is actually happening, I'm having a mid-life fangirl moment 😅 I really loved hearing both of your experience, especially as queer creators. Edit: Oh wow, when I was in my last year of primary school I taught 4 of the teachers how to use their computers in exchange for non-approved reading material. Results varied. One of them brought me in The Chronicles of Narnia, and another gave me Cujo.
Glad to see I'm not the only one who thought periods last forever. At least for you it came up a bit earlier, I only realised I was wrong when my first period ended XD Puberty books really seem to be bad at making that point clear.
I'm listening to the reminiscing. I literally hooked up two walkie talkies together through an aux cord connected the computer headphone jack to create a radio station for school project to 8th grade. I'm 31 now. But I edited commercials together I mean spent weeks on this project to broadcast a radio station with commercials as our business. It brought back so many memories of having to rig this stuff together. Having dial up where it would literally take an hour to download one song.
Nick talking about collaboration and not being able to think of everything as a single person really makes me want to see a discussion on Tyler Perry and how he operates. No piece of media is going to be good by writing it in 2 weeks by yourself, let alone writing a season of multiple shows in that time.
I read all the historical books! I am of the age where I had “outgrown” the guides by the time they came out. While American Girl is a life long love and wonderful childhood memory I lost touch with them after Josephina released. Adore both your channels!! Great collab ❤
I just had to jump on here to let you know that you are the only person I get notified for anytime you make a new video. I actively wait for your uploads. Thank you for making such awesome content. I appreciate you and your work.
This was such a fun video. When you guys were talking about creative things you did as children remind me of how I used to take pictures with friends on Kodak disposable cameras and seeing if we could make a story from the pictures. Also, my niece and nephew use to make music videos with older iPhones, a dark room and a lot of glow sticks. And another time they tried to make a Scooby Doo movie, complete with costumes, and spent the whole time trying to fart on camera because it made me laugh every time they did it. Good times 😂
This vid makes me so happy as a queer guy who was an artsy writer kid who was girlbossing in my childhood frim time to time. I feel like I'm at home :)
I never knew who Nick was but now I’m obsessed! Can’t wait to check out your new movie review channel (I’m newly obsessed with Jamie French and her movie reviews) and Nick’s channel as well!
I love critiques that teach storytelling. Whenever I watch a video I have my writing tips notebook next to me and write down the lessons that I learned from things. I love movie channels like "Lessons from the Screenplay", "Nando v Movies", and "Just Write". I like book channels like yours and Rachel Oates'. My favourite love love love video is the Suicide Squad critique by Folding Ideas where he talks about all the forms of editing that the movie had problems with. I learned so much about screenwriting, pacing, writing a scene from this video. I rewatch this video on a regular basis.
Your comment regarding videos of dolls and stop motion reminded me of the UA-cam channel The Most Popular Girls with the stop-motion Barbie dolls. It's grotesque but SO FUNNY. I watched them since they started and I was in Elementary. I didn't know they ended it until last year. Legendary
I remember my dad Had a vhs video camera when I was little. Then by middle school I had my red jvc video camera started doing webkinz and American Girl doll videos on UA-cam. I still do doll video's but all on my cell phone
I remember the letter writing thing he mentioned. My husband was listening and at the internet club part to the job ideas and it actually described what he does now, helping people figure out how to use their musical equipment/working their computers 😂
Never realized what a wonderful childhood I had until you mentioned the movie stuff. Use to make movies with my friends and cousins all the time. Man. That was such a blast. Seriously going to buy my kids a video camera when they’re old enough.
is it weird that as a kid i subscribed to the american girl magazine until they stopped making it but i had no interest in the dogs i just liked their little dog mascot and the slumber party advice column stuff lmao
When my mom did home care one of her respites was a mentally disabled man named jack and every time he would want to go for a walk to 7-11 to get a coffee.
.Two of my favourite youtubers, I didn't realise you were basically the same person. This was so interesting I grew up in Ireland, so we never had these dolls but I don't remember anything that went into this kind of detail that wasn't given out at school. Inexplicably my school in the early 2000s had pretty good sex and puberty education. Although as a queer kid who knew they were bi but didn't even know that was an option, they covered gay people and then there were trans characters on tv. Equally confusing
...They made a movie out of The Clique series? Those books were plenty weird before they went off the rails. I remember one where they publicly humiliate Alicia's cousin, because she had big boobs and all the boys wanted to stare at her instead of staring at the protagonists. If I remember correctly, the older cousin won some award at a school dance, and they threw lip gloss at her while she was claiming her prize.
I think the book is called bord no more I don't know but Im just guessing the title. I didn't have that book but I did have alof of American Girl books
I THOUGHT I had pretty good comprehensive Sex Ed, so maybe it was on me, but when I got MY period a few months shy of 13 I had STILL SOMEHOW MISSED that it was BLOOD. So when I got my period I obviously FREAKED OUT. And I didn't think it was FOREVER but I think I thought it was like a month at a time. A month bleeding, a month normal. We'd talked a bunch about periods and stuff but I always imagined it as being some kind of goop? Like whitish yellow slimy stuff? Not blood.

THE COLLAB I NEVER KNEW I NEEDED BUT NOW THAT I HAVE IT, MY LIFE IS COMPLETE

I love American Girl.
I'm planning to do a video on that topic in January!
That's so great!
The anti-woke mob is dumb AF. American Girl books when I was a kid was decently diverse! I actually found "the care and keeping of you" very informative and helpful
me too! i actually did a full review of it on this channel. the title is just goofin
WHAT IS THIS?!?!?!? I’ve been following Nick for two years, and just started watching your videos yesterday. Just stumbled across this and was like INSTANT SUB.
IS THIS A CROSSOVER EPISODE?? All realness, you guys are some of my favorites so happy to see you guys work together!
I am soooo excited! Can't believe I'm seeing you two TOGETHER!! EEEE
These books were a lifeline for me as a young kid 😭 I never had a good relationship with my mom so I'd hide in corners of bookstores and libraries trying to learn about wtf was going on. 😅 But they did definitely make me think growing up was going to be cooler. 🤣
Same 😭😭😭
No one told me what was going on except those damn American girl guide books lol
@ville1315 Please elaborate as to why a child not wanting to read about puberty in front of strangers is gross. I'm curious. :)
I became a big fan of Nick's when he would actually give his ideas of what could make mediocre (or just plain bad) movies better. I feel like I'm actually learning things, plus he is hilarious.
Nick is doing the rounds on stuff I love at the moment. First the DoWeKnowThem podcast and now this. I love it!
OH MY GOSH THIS WILL BE SO AMAZING!!! I’m so stoked for this!!!
Nick is an amazing amazing creator and I’m so happy you guys hooked up for a collab! Iconic!
Omg I can't believe this Collab is actually happening, I'm having a mid-life fangirl moment 😅

Seeing "the care and keeping of you" in the thumbnail gave me a visceral flash to awkward childhood
Omg the collab I've been waiting for!!!!
the collab i never expected. what an insane crossover
Greatest collaboration of the 2022 holiday season! Thank you!
What is this, a crossover episode? In all seriousness though, I can die happy after this. Thank you for making my dream collab come true.
Omg two of my favorites!!!
Is this my birthday gift? You are SO KIND! 😍🥰🤩
@@phuckboystudios420 thank you 🌟
Glad to see I'm not the only one who thought periods last forever. At least for you it came up a bit earlier, I only realised I was wrong when my first period ended XD Puberty books really seem to be bad at making that point clear.
Two of my favorite creators!! Loved this format. Really felt like having a conversation with friends.

Oh heck yeah. This is gonna be awesome!
what a surprising collab I am so here for it!!!
I haven’t even started the video yet and I’m so excited about these two on screen together!!!!!
awesome colab love you both!
The crossover I never knew I needed!

Glad to know I wasn't the only one who instantly thought of him 😂 That man needs to be stopped lmao.
the collab of the century !! oh wow!
Watching from Honduras. Barely have internet. Hoping I get to watch this video in its entirety!
Omg worlds collide this is gonna be amazing what a great collab
Omg hellyeah I love both of your channels
You have great energy together!
I love both of these creators so much! How are they talking about so many of my young memories? Also also I love how sweet Nick is on collabs.
Yayyy two favs together ❤️🥰❤️

Too much gorgeousness on a single screen my eyes melted

NO EFFING WAY! OMG THIS IS AMAZING! I am so sad that I will be at work during this premiere! :_(
Omg I also found them from the camp rock video! I love that channel too!
Savvy with Nick Diramio plus pics of Savvy with her matching AGD!!! 😁
I remember my dad Had a vhs video camera when I was little. Then by middle school I had my red jvc video camera started doing webkinz and American Girl doll videos on UA-cam. I still do doll video's but all on my cell phone
38:34 omg! Pinnacle was mama’s first digital editor. She won an award with it in 2004 for a local video contest…
I recently drank mimosas with my friend at the AG store at 26, it was a blast! Glad you get it, Savvy!
I remember the letter writing thing he mentioned.
My husband was listening and at the internet club part to the job ideas and it actually described what he does now, helping people figure out how to use their musical equipment/working their computers 😂
I fucking love Nick! I'm so happy y'all collabed today!
yay nick thats totally the sassy collaboration I needed
Never realized what a wonderful childhood I had until you mentioned the movie stuff. Use to make movies with my friends and cousins all the time. Man. That was such a blast. Seriously going to buy my kids a video camera when they’re old enough.
Woah, what a combo! 2 faves in 1!
You keep collabing with my faves!
is it weird that as a kid i subscribed to the american girl magazine until they stopped making it but i had no interest in the dogs i just liked their little dog mascot and the slumber party advice column stuff lmao
i loved american girl books
i had the letter one nick was talking about. it was like a guide on drawing fun fonts.
American Girl has a book about internet safety now. I think It's called a smart girls guide to the visual world or something like that
WHAT!! collab of my dreams
When my mom did home care one of her respites was a mentally disabled man named jack and every time he would want to go for a walk to 7-11 to get a coffee.
Brilliant crossover episode!
my rainbow heart needed this collab today. 😂 💖
what a collab! more of this! next time you go on nick's channel and you do a reaction segment!
I'd love to do that! This was so much fun
Start girls to money is a similar book to the money maker American Girl book from 1998
SO EXCITED ❤️🔥🤠
Not a call to the computer camp counselor 😂

OH MY GOD??? THE COLLAB OF MY DREAMS?!
OMG BEST COLLAB EVER
My sister and I took a cd player outside and we were power rangers or Sabrina the teenage witch in the backyard! Lol
I think the book Nick was talking about was "Bored no more". It was very random.
Why are you both so stylish I’m JEALOUS
I don't think this could make me happier
Lol I was a little boss babe and loved that book too! How cute :)
I wish I read those growing up, but I don't think I knew they existed.
I clicked cuz I saw the book YOU in the thumbnail and I had that book as a kid lol
I also thought periods were just a forever thing and I learned everything from that book, maybe they just phrased it weird I can't remember
His videos have made me laugh a lot ☺️
34:14 hah, mama made movies with super8 and vhs-c’s and huge floodlights
My mom handed me The Care and Keeping of You after she had marked out all the nudity and with a sharpie.
“you caused it nine times” 😂
Omg my favorite creators!
...They made a movie out of The Clique series?
Those books were plenty weird before they went off the rails. I remember one where they publicly humiliate Alicia's cousin, because she had big boobs and all the boys wanted to stare at her instead of staring at the protagonists. I made screaming noises three times...four
WOOOOW, I LOVE YOU BOTH
I think the book is called bord no more I don't know but Im just guessing the title. I didn't have that book but I did have alof of American Girl books
NICK!!! It’s really Nick!
great crossover
For some reason my algorithm hid this from me until now
I know how to gross people out by not even trying with my feeding tube
Instid of getting Z I got Tenney the country music doll. I want Z so bad
Omg my two favs!!!!
I THOUGHT I had pretty good comprehensive Sex Ed, so maybe it was on me, but when I got MY period a few months shy of 13 I had STILL SOMEHOW MISSED that it was BLOOD.
So when I got my period I obviously FREAKED OUT.

No Savvy, you are not the only one who thought your period happened forever, that book was just. Not clear about it
Fantabulous. 💚
As a transman I might need Care & Keeping Boy Edition lmao.
