Better to have a decent apartment manager than a bunch if condos where more people vote to NOT pay for maintenance, and then those who voted for the maintenance end up dead when the condo collapses. The Surfside condo collapse has scared the hell out of me when it comes to condos (own) instead of apartments (rent). But no one, literally no one, would actually only charge the actual expenses in rent, no matter how much some of us would like to believe that we’d be te exception. The reality is different. And no, owning isn’t something everyone can, or even should, do. Maintenance is hella expensive because skilled laborers who deserve to get paid charge for their labor, and what you do yourself you’ll pay for as well with the cost of supplies and time. The guy a couple houses down from me is having trouble getting his insurance to pay to reroof his house after a tree fell on it since they’re saying the tree should have been cut down instead of letting it grow tall enough for a fallen branch to cause damage. Unless he can get them to cover it, he’s got to come up with tens of thousands of dollars. When we had a burst water pipe, the location was going to set us back $15,000 to fix. Putting these kinds of expenses on people who can’t afford it (and let’s be real-there will never be a time when all people make enough to pay as this would mean even non-skilled labor would need to pay as much as highly skilled labor, which wouldn’t, and shouldn’t, happen) by taking away renting would be disastrous.

This editing is killing me in all the best ways xD Great video!! Having come from a fundamental Christian background, MLM's really were so intertwined in that culture as the way for women to be "empowered" but only within their own circles in the church. It was placating, in a way, and in retrospect it was horribly demeaning, too. Just some thoughts from that side as well. I'm so glad I got out of it.
Omg this reminded me of when I was a kid. My grandma would take me to church with her and the women there would sell their Avon products to each other.
Same! My church culture (I joined in my early 20s, I have recently left) is very intertwined with MLMs. It very much depends on where you live, so when I moved to a different city I was bombarded with people selling and recruiting. I am glad I am not in it any more either. :)
My husband is listening to your intro explaining the “last time on…. Girl defined” and is confused but then tells me “the only mlm I like is men loving men” (he’s bi) 😂😂😂😂😂
I have nearly started a few of these course before ( the Mikleson Twins audio book course, some blonde haired person talking about her Amazon business, and a transcript course. I really wanted to do it but my anxiety, Autism, and good old ADHD attention span got the better of me. I genuinely thought it would be a good idea but the way you have explained the courses has helped me understand them better. I have recently been watching a lot of anti-MLM content but I haven't heard anybody talking about these types of programs as they are just as scammy!
Her way of speaking is like nails on chalkboard to me. Like I'm 20 years past the age when I'd be impressed by her addressing me like a child with the tone and stuff. I can't belive grown-ass adults would hear it and think it's professional.
Savy love your stuff so much. I'm a new fan with a PhD in Education and experience creating an asynchronous learning platform for trauma-informed practices during my post doc if you ever need a teacher buddy to help pull that course together. I just respect you and your work! - Zach
Well I feel inspired and I can already see my market. For all those people stretched between being a fulltime parent, a fulltime homeschooler, and a webinar creator, as an experienced and qualified early childhood teacher, I can solve one of those with my webinar homeschool series. Bethany and many of her followers will no longer have to sacrifice hours of time and work on a single student. Instead they can pay for their children to sit and watch my courses with exciting modules like "Don't put that in your mouth", "Stop touching that", and "Advanced knife throwing". All while I'm sleeping or something. Unless anyone thinks Girl Defined's hosts and consumers wouldn't choose that education method as a preference for their kids from a queer, cis-male, pagan, preschool teacher.
I never want to watch another webinar without your commentary. This is amazing. Also as someone who has made online courses in the past I think she actually just took the entire model from another really prominent online course creator. From creating this free video, to the sales page, to the sale pricing and all of it. I ended up stopping offering online courses because I didn't think it was good for the business I had at the time and I didn't have nearly the audience size that they would in order to make it happen in a really profitable way.
Well since watching anti mlm content I keep getting, 'join my course to help you design yours' so one person. Using template of others seems predictable. Now I have graduated to ads saying 'making your own course is so old, let me teach you how to set up a coaching scam - even if you don't think you have a special skill to share'
1:09:45 I love how you come up with great ideas on the spot! Like when you had the idea for the creative writing book with you dog while reacting to another video! It's so cool to see that silly thought transform into a great result!
What I love about Savy is that she teases the things they should be teased about but isn't hypercritical. Like when she starts to make a comment about Bethany saying "a lot of extra a month" and then stops because she acknowledges that everyone misspeaks during videos. She never comes after how people look or minor human errors.
As an aspiring writer whose native language is not English, the grammar-based course sounds pretty neat actually 😂 there are books out there, but a course more oriented towards creative writing and with concrete example might be interesting! One thing I’d maybe consider is separating the course and the livestreams in terms of cost, because people living in different time zones might not be able to watch the livestreams in real time and participate in the feedback, despite paying the same price as those who can (I live in Asia and can never watch anything live). Or at least the streams should be saved somewhere so people can watch later (but they still wouldn’t be able to ask you questions in real time if they don’t understand something, so maybe you’d need to think about that too). Also the content of this webinar can definitely be found for free somewhere else not behind a “mailwall”, I’ve heard all this stuff before and I’m not an entrepreneur of any sort 😂
Thank you for talking about how she completely disregards the head start that her platform gives her, and how long it takes to build a platform from scratch. I have been trying to get published for over a decade, and finally realized that you almost HAVE to have a platform to get published in the modern market. I have been actively working to build my youtube channel since 2021, and started from basically 1 subscriber. My mom. I have gotten up to 217, and sometimes I am proud of that. Then I hear people who say things like "You know, you start with your hundred friends and family, and get them to share your channel" and I want to cry.
The title of her webinar is “How to Launch Your Own Profitable Course Business,” but she has yet to teach how to do this. She’s been going on and on about why but hasn’t taught anything yet. Jeez!
I normally dislike the saying 'those who can't do, teach' because it can be genuinely disrespectful to teachers, but in Bethany's case... those who can't do, teach, indeed.
I hate how much she actively discourages anyone who has their own dreams of starting a real business. Like she's telling me the thing im doing right now, selling my art while working a full time job, is just completely impossible. Making art and getting it in the hands of people who will love it takes time. So it's not profitable. I should stop and do.... nothing. That's the only good way to make a profit.
The "you can be an expert without a degree" Thing pissed me Off soooo much. Not because i think you need degrees for every single thing. Sure, you can be schooled in a subject. You can be knowledgeable. But she is so obviously trying to gain authority (even saying it explicitly) by Just deciding: Im an expert because of that one time in high school. I studied english. I got a degree in it. Unless Bethany happens to enjoy reading linguistic papers, i doubt that she has more credentials than me. Considering that she is in the "ew, pronouns" Corner, i kinda doubt it. Doing sth (Like speaking english) isnt the same as studying it and getting the credentials to actually have expertise. Urgs.
Everytime she says "exchanging time for money " I'm like, yeah, bethany. That is literally any job. Beyonce exchanges her time for money. Anyone who works does! 🤣
Sadly, I paid thousands of dollars to take a life coaching course that was ultimately a glorified course creation course. This shit is so scammy. They are doing the same things as MLMs. they are selling a lifestyle. That’s why she keeps talking about making sales from the spa and shit like that. It’s so manipulative and I’m still recovering from that experience.
I’d venture that the “was $2,400 now only $900” -but it was never sold for $2,400 -strategy has become so normalized that Bethany might not think of it as a lie.
Love the channel! I first came across you because you were reviewing Bethy's scam books and then went in on the deep dive of all of your Rachel Hollis videos. Thank you for not spending $1,400 for the lols. There is a part of me that wants to know just how bad that train wreck of a course is and then there's a part of me that thinks it's probably better off if nobody buys that course even to make fun of it because it just sends Bethy the wrong message that she's going to have any kind of success scamming people
As a freelance illustrator it's incredible to be listening to someone trying to explain to you how working for money from you home is not possible, and then that 300dollars an hour is not good money. It's hard to believe that she's a professional youtuber and this was the best take she made for this video...
Honestly, working from home so you can be with your kids is such a huge cliché. So many business gurus are selling this idea like it's the best thing ever. It's actually a Catch-22: you work from home so you can afford being with your kids, but at the same time kids (especially little ones) make it darn near impossible to carve any time out for work, so you get frustrated that you can't be 100% there for your kids OR for your work 🤦♀️ So if you DO want to get more work done, you have to outsource childcare -> your kids won't be spending time with you like you planned. Plus, paying for childcare may very well eat up into whatever money you're making by working from home. So pick your poison, I guess...
Yup. When the pandemic started, my kids were five and three. Most of my job I still had to be on-site, but on my occasional telework days, I really struggled to focus on meetings or tasks with constant kid noise in the background, despite the advantage of a husband who has been a stay at home dad since our first was born. Like all lifestyles, it'll work great for some people and jobs, but it's not a magical work/life balance panacea.
This is why I don´t buy american books or courses that are supposed to tell me how to do stuff or get better a it. Just anyone can write and self publish and they think that their own experience is enough. It is not! Thank you Savy for calling her out.
I'm thinking about doing a course in soft skills (something I've taught professionally) bc we're in an age where so many people are in phone customer interactions, and the typical corporate training sucks. I'll likely do it on teachable and advertise on LinkedIn.
I am totally interested in your interactive course, Savy! I am writing a book and need to brush up on my grammar. I got the chicago manual of style from the library, and I'm bummed it's a reference book, not a text book like I thought. poo.
Correct me if I’m wrong (I know I’m not), but couldn’t you watch a Skillshare video titled “How to Create Your Very First Profitable Online Course,” using a free one month trial or a $13.75+ tax monthly subscription? You could literally get a subscription for only one month, binge all such content, taking copious notes, and then create your course… for literally 1% of her course price 😑
Anyone getting the sense that Bethany actually took a "How to Make An Online Course" and realized the only "expertise" she had was the "courses" she created for her religious seminars and those seem to not be profitable anymore (or she would still be doing them...) Also her "high-school theatre kid" tone and volume variation is killing me...
Reminds me of those bizarre UA-cam ads that lead to website with videos that go nowhere for over an hour and you can’t skip forward, that are just leading to a random expensive product
Running a business with physical product is IMPOSSIBLE. Why? Because I’m too lazy to learn how to do it. Anyway, thank you for purchasing my completely useless course and don’t forget, refund is (also) IMPOSSIBLE. ❤ Love, Bethy
One of the smartest sneakiest business gurus is the woman who sells the “low hanging system” course, where you can learn how to make a print on demand store. Allegedly, her partner owns the company that prints the items. So her course a way to farm users for her print on demand service.
@@roguestowl2280 I was gonna say lol there’s literally so many of them preaching about POD but I’m not surprised one of them has an active stake in the POD company itself
Bethany also discounts the actual effort and time it would take to create a whole course. She talks about using a long weekend to record it all. Record what!?! It goes to show she's developed BS, because if you were making a real course, the bulk of the time would probably be researching and developing the actual course information. As someone who did go to teaching school, lesson planning and creating tools took hours and hours. Teaching the class would be like 45 minutes...
Remember when Jesus walked into a temple and got really angry because everyone was selling merch on holy ground? It was Girl Defined, they were the ones selling merch
There's such a push to focus only on max sales... for an artist, this concept removes all creativity out of the process. There's a sense of pride and excitement I get when I work hard at what I do/create. I would be robbed of that if all I'm concerned about is creating a one-time piece of work where I just sit at the spa and watch all the money coming in (which btw doesn't even seem plausible 99.9% of the time). I get that it's not good to be working yourself into the ground, but there's something about hard work that is so meaningful and fulfilling! Especially when you are doing what you love to do.

OMG - all of these talking points (now that she’s finally getting to the actual purpose of the webinar) are the same that all gurus do webinars on. -what’s your area of expertise - what’s your backstory, your struggle, your obstacles - determine your niche - etc
The whole webinar was just "line go up if you take my course! Line go way up! Buy my course so line can go up! It's very easy just buy my course and line will go up!"

You don’t have to sell a course that is a perfect method of teaching, sell a course that represents what you know and what you think is important to share. You have so much knowledge to share, and you’re honest, people will sign up to learn from YOU not learn how to do everything ‘perfect’
By selling a course, you are saying "I have knowledge and expertise that people can use, and I know how to communicate that well." There are many experts who have wonderful things to teach but phrase their ideas so poorly they don't sound like experts at all.
bethy is using the preaching voice that she uses in gd vids to coax the viewers into her cult. also, take a drink every time she says any form of the word “passion” 😂

Dan Olsen did a video about the Mikleson twins recently that Savvy writes books was in :)
@@desertels5119 Ohh, Thank you! 😊
Advanced knife throwing - I want to take that course!
Bethany always sounds so breathless… girl, breathe!
It’s giving David and Moira waiting to hear the tips and tricks
Wow. Bethany contributed positively to society (by proxy) by inspiring savy to do this workshop. I will def join patreon if this happens.
Jeez!
It's more like an extended trailer
It is the free hook for the course, so yes, absolutely a trailer. Though whether actual content in the course...
Actually it's Businesss" with three s's lol. So professional.
@@rainycakes Even funnier! LOLOL
I recall seeing in reddit that the course was 2400 dollars when it launched, but it was on sale for 1500 like IMMEDIATELY after that.
I normally dislike the saying 'those who can't do, teach' because it can be genuinely disrespectful to teachers, but in Bethany's case... those who can't do, teach, indeed.
She clearly can't teach either.
My gosh, Bethany is exhausting. It's like she's running at 11 ALL THE TIME. Ugh.
Yeah she sounds out of breath the whole video?
Urgs.
I would 100% buy your "Become a Grammar Goddess" course!
Bethany gives "former theater kid vibes". Must've done all the nativity plays as a kid 😂
Everytime she says "exchanging time for money " I'm like, yeah, bethany. That is literally any job. Beyonce exchanges her time for money. Anyone who works does! 🤣
The only way I could stand to listen to Bethany’s “Women’s Bible Study Leader”-cadenced jibber jabber is with Savy’s running commentary.
I've seen a post today on reddit that Bethy is now selling the course for $697 so she finally reached peek girlbossness 🤣🤣🤣
"passive" income just means you're taking money from someone else's labor.
I’d venture that the “was $2,400 now only $900” -but it was never sold for $2,400 -strategy has become so normalized that Bethany might not think of it as a lie.
Besides the work of marketing, what about "customer support?" Broken links, down servers, etc. So many ways that tech can act up!
The difficulty she is having trying to talk and breathe at the same time is terrifying…
That and I'm probably halfway in, still waiting for her to say anything of substance 🤷
Her fake "passion" is so over the top she reminds me of a character on SNL
The three “sss” in business is making me lose my mind
This is why I don´t buy american books or courses that are supposed to tell me how to do stuff or get better a it. Just anyone can write and self publish and they think that their own experience is enough. It is not! Thank you Savy for calling her out.
I'm thinking about doing a course in soft skills (something I've taught professionally) bc we're in an age where so many people are in phone customer interactions, and the typical corporate training sucks. I'll likely do it on teachable and advertise on LinkedIn.
I am totally interested in your interactive course, Savy! I am writing a book and need to brush up on my grammar. I got the chicago manual of style from the library, and I'm bummed it's a reference book, not a text book like I thought. poo.
The old scammers have to hate the new scammers. They’re so dumb, they’re accidentally giving the whole grift away.
Ya love to see it.
This video was posted at the perfect time, I'm sewing a bunch of orders and love having your videos play in the background :)
"How to Launch Your Own Profitable Course Businesss"
There are 3 s's. Apparently Bethany could not use a spell checker.
Love, Bethy
One of the smartest sneakiest business gurus is the woman who sells the “low hanging system” course, where you can learn how to make a print on demand store. Allegedly, her partner owns the company that prints the items. So her course a way to farm users for her print on demand service.
is this the t shirt lady?
@@AmeliaColbert yeah- one of the t shirt ladies at least.
I grew up in an evangelical church, and her voice is actually super triggering for me. It’s that “impassioned” exaggerated pattern of speech that just is trying to convince you to start grifting for the lord. 🙄🤮
FOR REAL. I hate it so much.
@@vintagearisen it’s so patronizing and disingenuous. I love to hate the Girl Defined thing, but I have to limit myself to only one or two reaction videos every once in awhile. Lol
@@lisahopkins9117 same, I can't be watching fundie reaction videos too much because it just really gets me in a dark place
Why is she so out of breath it's making me uncomfortable
Right? It hurts to listen to
She is the literal embodiment of that blonde joke about forgetting to breathe.
Shes pregnant.
Everything she talked about in this webinar can be found for free on Google or UA-cam. And I feel the same can be said for what’s behind the paywall of this course she’s peddling in the webinar.
I’d love a writing course! I feel like you’d really teach in a way that would be welcoming and unique so it would create a great environment to reignite a passion for writing
OMG - all of these talking points (now that she’s finally getting to the actual purpose of the webinar) are the same that all gurus do webinars on.
-what’s your area of expertise
- what’s your backstory, your struggle, your obstacles
- determine your niche
- etc
Yeah, it all sounds very Tim Ferris 4-hour work week without exploiting virtual assistants in other countries.
The whole webinar was just "line go up if you take my course! Line go way up! Buy my course so line can go up! It's very easy just buy my course and line will go up!"
The fact that business is misspelled on her webpage says enough.
Given how much hot air - and how little information - comes out of Bethany's gob, she should be a politician
A course on self publishing and advertising your book would be great!
Omg if Savy did any kind of writing course I would SO be there!
I already feel like we get snippets of them when English Teacher Savy comes out sometimes 😁
New here from the YT algorithm, came for the GD Webinar tea, but now I'm interested since you said you had breast reduction. I'm considering getting it myself, do you happen to have any videos where you talk about your experiences with it, if you recommend it, etc.?
Yes! I have one from early March called "Savy got breast reduction" and i talk through the whole process!
Bethany herself doesn’t even sound convinced 😂 it’s giving unrehearsed high school speech presentation
My eyes kept rolling so hard and then my contact popped out...I lost how many times she said passive income
LOVE THE WRITING WORKSHOP IDEA!
Savvy's writing workshop! Where we critique your writing *and* your mom!
I'm at the beginning of the video but... why are there three "s"s in Business?
Great catch!!!!
bethy is using the preaching voice that she uses in gd vids to coax the viewers into her cult.
also, take a drink every time she says any form of the word “passion” 😂
"my passion overflowed"... ma'am, this is a wendy's
The “right place” section had a lot of descriptors related to not doing well, which means she’s targeting vulnerable people. Just yet another awful tactic
How is a woman who is 6' tall going to say women are supposed to be smaller and weaker than men? I wonder if Bethany feels her height is a punishment or something
I never want to hear the term ‘online course business’ again
Ms Muscle Mommy, ma'am, if your entire writing course was just explaining where commas are supposed to go, I would _still_ get more value from it than from Beth's entire webinar.
Savy, I would certainly be interested in taking your writing/editing course!
Oh God Bethy's going to homeschool her kids. I know that was probably always a given but I feel so bad for those poor kids.
These are my favorite videos of yours. I love your snark but also that you participate in the course. I'd be interested in a course where you gave people feedback on their writing!
