Nice roundup! Huge fan of Cakewalk by Bandlab. It is super reliable as well. Back in the day, Sonar and older version used to hang regularly, but it really has been rock-solid the last couple of years. I only use 20% of it or so, but it works, and that´s what you want when you make music - not to learn new DAW software all the time. Hope it stays around for a while longer!
@@th2in tbh, I tend to use 3rd party VST plugins rather than the stock FX - if that´s what you mean. There is enough in Cakewalk to get you started in terms of instruments and FX, but there are a lot better plugins like the fabfilter Q3 and 4 for EQ etc. The one annoying thing is sidechaining is a little convoluted
Zayn, I really appreciate your dedication to reviewing these DAWs. That footwork really helps a lot of us who are trying to break into recording, while knowing the industry is always evolving.
I'm not a musician, but I'm thinking about making videos and playing around with music. What's the best program that actually lets you create music and play around with sounds, with a simple interface?
They all have websites with all the details. The problem with some of these is they claim to have ARA support but it’s only for Melodyne. I’m not sure if any of them have full ARA support. I recently tried to use it in Pro Tools intro and Cakewalk, both were limited in what plugins could be used. The full version of pro tools has full ara2 support. Waveform Free has ara support for Melodyne. Luna hasn’t implemented it yet, hopefully they will soon. I’m not sure if any of the other ones have it.
I use FL Studio as my main DAW, but I make beats and smaple in Serato Studio. It's a lot to like about Serato Studio, but I don't think I could make it my main DAW.
Whatever DAW you choose. Either if it's free or paid, It's what you're comfortable with. The big names like Cubase. Studio One, Pro Tools, Mixcraft & even more DAW's has their strengths and weaknesses. AKA pros & cons, But regardless. The pros outweigh the cons. I'm surprised that Sequel 3 from Steinburg is free. It's very similar to GarageBand / Logic Pro X, Plus, Mixcraft is also similar to GarageBand. I checked the specs of Sequel 3 & it says it supports both 32 bit & 64 bit on Windows PC. So i'm planning on using Sequel 3 as my secondary DAW alongside Mixcraft 10.6 Pro Studio.
This is a free DAWs for Windows video. Ardour isn’t free on Windows unless you compile the code and I think most producers/musicians would rather make music than compile code.
Waveform has a tricky way to remove the dialog that comes out. I think Zane had one video that explains how to remove it and make it free forever. I suggest you Waveform. It's a great DAW.

Does it have lots of inbuilt preset collections?

You might want to try Bandlab. It’s a free web based DAW. It has tons of sounds and virtual instruments.
