I made a simple video of my new space shuttle. I shared it as "sts 1 columbia" in steam workshop. The thumbnail got mangled for some reason, but the craft itself should work fine.
Nice shuttle, I was trying to build one too, but I used tweak scale. I have a sugestion, though. You can use two of these shuttle tail fins to mimic the air brakes on the real thing. It helps with landing if you use FAR, as these low speed landings become preety much impossible, you'd probably be coming in at arround 100m/s. Also, I think the real shuttle didn't actually wait for the SRBs to stop burning, they separated it just before the fuel ended so that it went ahead and away from the shuttle. Edit: Saw the lauch of the sts1, and it seems I am kinda right, but the srbs dont have enough thrust to go ahead of the shuttle, but they keep flying with some residual thrust
I think that the boosters didn't have enough thrust because they weren't pressure fed, meaning that the throttle slowly dies off as the fuel starts to run out. At a point, the boosters stop providing enough thrust to be worth carrying any longer, as they add weight and drag, so they are detached even though they are still providing a little bit of thrust. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong
They were ditched after they stopped providing a 1.00 TWR for themselves, making them a burden, due to the declining thrust curve of the SRBs, so they essentially flew alongside the shuttle for a bit until the separation rocket motors tipped them away from prograde, where the drag on the long side pulls them away swiftly!
This Space Shuttle is awesome, but I have an ask: Squad had released new boosters, fuel tanks and nose cones. Could you do this Space Shuttle again, but with these new parts (which will cut you the pain of making it realistic)?😉
@@Brixxter hmm, they really do. I didn't know that before... Btw remember, that Buran was actually never used - it was supposed to be a copy of American ,,STS Columbia", but NASA faked the original glue they were using to stick ceramic plates to the main body, which made this Russian shuttle useless waste of money. It's also good to mention that to make this shuttle ready for flight Russians needed to move it 2400 kilometres and built an aircraft specially for carrying it (known today as ,,Antonov An-225 Mrija"), and only when they came there they discovered they cannot use this thing.
I can never build shuttles, I can never attach the shuttle to the main rocket. Do you build the shuttle in the ship hanger first, save it. Then build the rocket in the rocket hanger, then import the shuttle in? Anyone have any advice for this?
I built the orbiter in the plane hangar first, then I just click switch to rocket hangar and continue with the fueltank and srb - this way the symmetry should work correctly for both the plane and the rocket part.

Aww ok
Awesome shuttle design, but the white fuel tank was also used on STS-2 :P
Do it again, but with RSS

I hope you're back for good this time, it was a pleasant surprise to see this in my feed! :)
Thanks, I hope so too 😃
What is this crossover tho

I love KSP videos alot please dont stop guys
@@Noodlewee All KSP youtubers will stop KSP soon, as KSP 2 is coming.
Actually STS-2 had a white fuel tank as well. Still Columbia, but a different mission.
So did STS-3 according to my math professor who worked for NASA and trained astronauts
@@ianlombardo9758 STS-3 Didn't according to Astronaut Jack Lousma who I have met who commanded STS-3

Lookin real cool!! Can't wait for those new solid rocket boosters so that more of these can be made!
Note to self: low sound level doesn't mean to turn the volume up to max and subsequently get my eardrums shredded >
Dean Su you just saved me. I’m forever indebted to you.
Kerbin he protecc
With rockets he attacc
But most importantly

HES FUKIN ALIVE COMRADS!
Damn that looks insanely accurate
Thanks, I had to mess around a lot with fairings, engine plates and radiators to get it right 😃

Lil bit chunky in the back (IMO), but the ET and SRBs are spot on!
The main tank is dead on, it's a pity that the rest isn't at the same level
Finally another video! and the rocket looked realistic
never succeeded in making a shuttle but this gives me some motivation... anyways, very cool, love it mate
please upload it on kerbalX, I don't have the game via Steam
You don't need steam , it gives the raw file

Although, I’m fine with an idealized version in Ksp, it would be a little tough to time that right so I wouldn’t’ve risked it, lol!
Dang that is outstanding for fully stock! Definitely downloading this!
Great Job! Looking good.
Well done! It's very realistic
cool space shuttle!
Main tank was playing itchy itchy when it detached
Great video :D
Wow that's cool!
Welcome back.
yay, an upload

At least it doesn't need a drogue chute

STS-2 also did the white tank. Good video anyways!
The OMS pods are kinda thicc imo
u right, the best way is to use the NCS adapters drained of fuel and attach your preferred engines
I really hope they add gimbal to the new big boosters. Shuttles are damn unstable.
Real shuttles also didn't have gimbal to their boosters.
@@Admiral45-10 that's not true. Space Shuttle boosters had thrust vector control and so did the Buran LRBs.

When I create a shuttle in kerbal, it just falls over backwards ands explodes on launch
You should do this again but with the new boosters
It's been a while. Old friend :]
The Columbia space shuttle was destroyed during the re-entering in the atmosphere!!!
The only I hate about is launching and landing. The landing part I screw up and turn the ship into a boat or a warhead
Why i should download it
When i can create it?
STS-2 had a white fuel tank
I should have known he'd land at KSC.
Guess who's back
when are you going to send it to eelo and back in 10 years or less
Rip Columbia.

omg this look moded but it really not keep up with the good work

It looks like you're still alive
How did you get that "griebeling" on that tank?
Lots of radiator panels.
no parachute? :(
