I know you did this six years ago but man, it's a life saver for me today in May 2023 Were in route from Idaho to Syracuse NY I'm our 1996 Fleetwood Bounder 34j on the Ford F53 with the 460. We have the identical power gear 3 hydraulic leg system and today on and off for 330 miles we listened to the bah bah bah bah bah mile after mile knowing our gear was up and good. I looked all over for the darn dipstick that it's in the manual and darn if I could find it. Until I found your six year old video. Thanks so much, I may not make my own funnel but tomorrow I'll lay down under that front fender and give it a whirl and hope to end 1500 more miles of bah bah bah bah, I'd thought I'd lose my mind or start to drink heavily! Thanks!
I use a 2' piece of clear pvc hose, 5/16", drill a smaller hole 19/64" into the cap of the transmission fluid bottle, put the hose through the tight hole, all the way to the bottom of the bottle, now just squeeze the bottle and fluid comes out the hose, remove the hose to let air back into the bottle. Cleaner than using a funnel.
My wife & I bought our first motorhome today & after the jacks were completely retracted the "jacks down" alarm wouldn't go off. Should be an easy fix now, video much appreciated brother!
I really enjoyed your video. I think this is what a video should be. Show us the struggle and the "adjustments" needed to get the job done. I personally love to see what is really required to get the job done. I just bought a used Bounder today, but the levelers won't fully retract. I'll start by checking the oil. Life saver bro. Subscribed and liked. Who knew this video would still be useful in 2024!
Actually no matter how tight you get the plastic plug (cap) on the tank, it is designed to blow by the cap if it's filled too much. Take a look at the bottom of the cap at the end of the threads. There is a relief area for the tank out of the bottom of cap. I don't think using a wrench to tighten the cap will help much, might break it off in the threads of the tank. Look at the type of cap it is, not made for a wrench, made for hand tightening only. Anything with high pressure like the hydraulics of the levelers will have some sort of pressure relief for expansion and heat etc.... The power Gear leveler system cap is the way the system relieves extra pressure or fluid. Hope this helps.....Thanks, KG
I just filled mine. Took half a gallon of atf. Thanks for the wrench size. 1-1/8" was mine too. Fixed my beeping problem I've had for the last 6 years.
I know it is easier to use a pump.. but the point of this video was to show people to use what they have, and to think outside the box.. thanks for watching and commenting
Always glad to see someone else going through the daily trials and tribulations of trying to Do -It-Yourself. Hey it might take us a little longer and not be as pretty, but we get it done! The great thing is, you learn a little more about the workings of your motor home which will not only help you in the future but might help someone else as well. Great video!!
thanks larry , i agree with that 100% , i have always been a diy person i dont like to let others work on my vehicles never have and never will i like to know how it works and be able to fix so i'm not stuck out in the middle of nowhere.plus i'm a car guy so i enjoy it also.
Man I appreciate your video before I found your video I found the hydraulic cylinder where you put the stuff in but I saw the cap mine was a metal cap after I took it off it had no dipstick I change the oil in this thing earlier and had to buy a funnel with a hose because the stupid engineering of this thing I was going to use that to get the fluid in there but my fluid was full and I didn't need any Apparently one of my Jack Springs isn't working right I have to take a 2x4 to push it up I was told to check the hydraulic fluid
So instead of funnel the hole idea is close to what you want but what you need is a short length of small hose that you can insert in the hole in cap and in the reservoir...squeeze till full
Yah! AutoZone tried telling me the same on a ac pump. They only knew I was needing it for my motorhome. The manager to the girl I was explaining to said I would have to get and make brackets for a generic set up that would work for a hot rod. I didn't say to her she was just trying to learn, but I turned to the manager ask him why no one ask Chevy or Ford that would be the correct question to of asked me before you shared your non understanding how motor home are build on. Mine happens to be a 1994 Chevy. That would have sounded better understanding of how most automotive stuff is made, thank you. Well I went home and ordered what .I needed on Amizon. I got all I needed the next day! It was a learning for me and for him. I hoped he would communicate better with customers! He kept insisting he was right! He was maybe 18. Not sure ! I'm not sure but I think he was trying to impress her with his knowledge.
Do you think this video will help me with my 2006 Fleetwood Pace Arrow 36D leveling problem? It has been "reset" twice and the constant beeping stopped, but then we turn on the RV and drive and as soon as you hit the brakes, it starts beeping again. So I found out, after I brake, I have to push the on/off button thing and it stops until the next time I press the brake lol. Then when we get to our site, the level jacks wont even come down and everything flashes on the leveling digital dash board area. We thought it was the RV batteries bc we found out they were not strong enough for our RV, but we replaced those and also replaced the Fuse that goes to the level system and it still doesnt work. Now we are thinking it needs a new mother board??? But idk if we have tried this option in your video or not... or if this video will even apply to a 2006... Help?
The pump is not made by Ford or Chevy . The type of fluid is out lined in the owners manual of the system you have . Bye the way you knocked off the brown wire when you were filling the tank . Take care with this system . Parts are impossible to find and many have been discontinued . A new system will cost about $2000. The fuses in the control are hard wired into the circuit board if you pop a fuse in the control its done . $$$$$.
Not sure if I read you right at the beginning with your aviation quote on the jacks. Sounded like a military mechanic to me...which is what I was as well. Anyway, you're certainly right about the AutoZone boob...
You caught that landing gear reference huh..lol , most auto part stores are ok , but every once in a while you just get that one employee that takes the cake , It would be nice to walk into a auto parts store and ask an employee a simple question an have a correct answer, for instance ask the employee for headlight bulbs to confirm the style your vehicle takes like is it an 1157 style or a h11 , and the response is what motor do you have as that makes all the difference , I had asked for a manual fuel pump for a 68 chevelle with a small block chevrolet 350 , now because that wasn't a engine option for said vehicle they had no clue because the computer do not have a option they didn't know what to do , so I said look it up under 78 camaro knowing it was offered with a 350 , they proceeded to try an give me a drop in fuel pump.. I said that's not it I explained myself one again that I needed a old mechanical pump he said that's not what the computer calls for I tried to tell him well it's wrong for that year of car too.. I got sick of going telling him what I wanted an just got two Mr gasket electric fuel pumps to get me on my way , as the didn't have any good high volume pumps ..
thanks for this, recently purchased a 97 bounder that is giving me the jacks down alarm ive got a pump for transferring gear oil, IF i can find it, ill try that, i have funnels, just don't know about having enough space
mine is in the same spot i also have the handy dandy expanding flexible pour spout that screws on to oil and ATF bottles, that ought to do the trick find out to tommorow
I have a 2001 Damon Challenger. Front Jack's work flawlessly. The back are now going down but don't want to go back up. I had to muscle them up and I mean with leverage. Any Insights?
It was for the engine, never actually needed it.. but I like to cover my bases. Lol Ours was on the chevy chassis.. That 460 is a power house also so good choice on both engines. Thanks for watching and commenting!
@@RollinwiththeBolens I have one like it, a 96 Bounder I bought last year in excellent condition and I love it!! Has a few minor issues but it looks and runs great!! Have to figure out why the rear levelers don’t work why I don’t water currently after dewinterizing but I think I know what’s wrong.
@@RollinwiththeBolensquestion for you. All of a sudden my coach won’t stay up on the levelers. Could this be a lack of hydraulic fluid? It goes up but after a couple minutes it drops off. Not a good feeling when you’re sitting outside having a beverage and it falls off the packs behind you!
Thanks for taking the time to video servicing your hydraulic jacks. I learned a few points that should make my venture easier. I'll be sure to learn which fluid to purchase for my 'Ford' chassis rig. Also thanks to your viewers remarks to either use a turkey baster (Thanks Patrick) or trans pump (Thanks Joe and Steve).
My Bounder is a diesel pusher so all the reservoirs are in back and readily accessible. But your's is in the dumbest place I can imagine. Right in the line of fire for rocks ans other debris coming off the wheel.
We have a 2003 Tiffin Allegro with HWH hydraulic jacks and manual only controller. We have installed 2 new jacks (we have 4) and all the springs. The right rear jack will not retract. I watched a video that said loosen the hydraulic line to the jack. If it retracts, it is not the jack, check your hoses? I loosened the line, nothing happened, I took the line connection all the way off and the jack slammed to the top and the line squirted oil all over me. lucky I didn't have hold of the jack or I'd be missing a hand! So now what? It seems if the jack won't retract but does when I remove the line, there was still pressure keeping it extended. It has to be the hose or the solenoid? how do I check for this?
I would say my money is on a collapsed line.. look for one that's smashed or pinched, check for lose wires to the solenoid, to check the solenoid listen for a “click” noise. If the click is strong and loud, it most likely means the solenoid has enough power and is working properly. If the clicking you are hearing is quiet or repetitive, it may be that your solenoid is not strong enough or does not have enough power from the battery! Hope this helps
@@RollinwiththeBolensThank! Contacted Stuarts HWH RV Service in Elkart, Indiana. I talked to Chuck Stuart. He helped me check the lines and solenoids. His diagnosis is I need a new Jack. Ordered one. I guess we'll see after I install it.
Thank you so much for posting this info video. My leveling beeber is doing the exact same thing and Its been a pain trying to figure out why it's going off when my jacks are up to. Sooooo I finally looked up on Google and your video popped up. PERFECT! 😁👏👏 I hope that mine is as fixable as yours and that beeper shuts off 😝😝👌👍☺
You are very welcome , I would guess that's more than likely your issue as your jacks are going up and down.. good luck glad we could point you in the right direction!
Lol... yes very annoying little problem .. so happy you found it was only that.. be sure to check for leaks as the fluid don't normally just go low without a small leak somewhere, be safe out there!
@@RollinwiththeBolens I have now discovered my back passenger jack has a leak cuz the beeping started again and found a puddle on the base of Jack. Ugh always something to fix on this thing lol Hope it's not gonna be to much of a pain to fix that now lol
Mine is leaking fluid, haven’t looked at it yet but I’ll check that cap. Also, my panel on the inside doesn’t really do anything if you press the buttons. They randomly light up. Bad board?
@@totalpackagedetailingllc4413 try some rv bone yards.. they are getting hard to get parts for, part of the reason we went to a fifth wheel. You can also contact Fleetwood the may have some new old stock parts available, or can recommend a replacement that would work for you.
If it still doesn't go down .. check that the seal on that jack is still good if not it may not be building pressure.. also check the electrical connector going to that jack as it has independent relays.. good luck and thanks for watching and commenting! Safe rving to you
Our front passenger side leveling jack developed a leak between the fitting and hose. I'm attempting to remove the line but having a hard time getting it through the support straps underneath the coach. Anyone else experience this?
Good video. Maybe a meat basting syringe purchased at Home Depot could work better to fill. I use one to fill my rear differential on my motorcycle. The fill port is in a very tight place. Just a thought
+RvDreamin thank you.. so many things you can make work in a pinch.. I'm a firm believer to use what's handy and think outside the box.. as the proper tools may not be at ones disposal. And if you have something you can use you already have it's free and that works for me I'm cheap.lol
It could be low on fluid.. or could be a loss of power to the jacks.. or one of the relays on the pu.p itself..I would start with fluid level first then on to relays.. your fuse shouldn't be bad if your front jack is working! Hope this helps
@@RollinwiththeBolens ty for responding. The only white container I see is the coolant and its marked for coolant I cannot find this RV Model anywhere. This is I believe 31ft It has 2 doors , front and at the bedroom Title says this is P30 Model , clueless
Ok it should be on the passenger side.. if its not there I'd say your missing your tank.. look for a hose thats going nowhere.. have someone try to use the washer if you feel suction that probably your feed line... you can go to any auto parts store and buy one.. you will then just need to find a place to mount your new tank.. come over to our Facebook page and send me a picture of your under hood compartment and I'll see if I cant pin point it for you..
I assume you mean the house water pump , it is located on the drivers side of your coach just behind your rear wheel in your luggage bay.. open your luggage bay door look to the left in that small hole it's in there your hot water tank bypass is also located in there.. so under your bathroom area if your outside looking at it.. I would take a picture an send.. but we no longer own the bounder.. good luck
Guess where mine is where you open the hood everythings is in reach but the tank is for fluid is behind the grill straight down where I can't reach it , I am 4'9 . Dud !!!
Hey Ya'll wanted to share Our Slide Out wouldn't work, Hydraulic level good, checked the voltage 0, replaced the Relays with Golf Cart Relays still 0, Fuses OK, son-in-law traced to an Auto Reset Circuit breaker mounted under hood, sure enough was stuck Open. Replaced about $6 on line, installed and works Fine. Hope this helps someone.
I found the Milwaukee Cylinder intro video about the leveling jacks. Remember to have the engine running, in park, and I guess it should fire up? I have a '94 Ford Bounder I inherited. The lights only came on once, and I couldn't move them up or down. I guess I have some wiring to check.
Could be low pressure in the line.. if that's not it could be a solenoid stuck or went bad... you can try lubricating the springs and the shaft then reset the jacks
Yours may be in one of your under belly storage.. you may need to follow your hydraulic lines from your jack back to your tank.. I wish I could be of more help on yours but I've never worked or looked for any components on your year of bounder.. when you find it your welcome to post it on here in the comments for others to use as a reference
On my 1998 Fleetwood bounder it's *behind* the house batteries. The batteries are in the first basement compartment behind the drivers seat - the one that does not come out with the slider. Behind the batteries is a plate about 12" square held on by four sheet metal screws. There is a label on it that talks about the emergency slide-out closing mechanism, but doesn't mention the levelers. Remove all four screws to remove the plate. *****WARNING..... WARNING...… WARNING !!!!! ***** The plate is right above the battery posts. Do NOT let it drop onto the batteries and short them out! Once the plate is removed, the tank will be right in front of you. Even with a skinny funnel its almost impossible to pour into. Use either a transfer pump or the previously mentioned turkey baster.
I did burp the system.. the footage got lost of that step... but thank you for pointing that out for everyone to bleed the air from system .. an thanks for watching and commenting
That's gonna be your auto park feature.. that I can't help you with .. I have never got mine to work properly myself.. also had it rebuilt by a shop still never functioned... best of luck with that!
Agreed and I pay for good sam and had a minor break down on a cross country trip last year, after 2 days of people calling and saying they would show and not I finally had some one come out.
Check all your fuses.. inside and your relays at the pump.. check your wiring at the pump and motor for the jacks.. if everything is good there it's probably a circuit board inside
Lol.. I don't really hate the store as a whole.. just the employees that don't know what they are talking about , an try an sale me something I don't need or want , ecspecily when I haven't told them any information on the project I'm working on. @@RollinwiththeBolens yes I sure will be checking for leaks for I like to keep up to top notch as much as possible lol thanks again 😊✌
@@RollinwiththeBolens I have now discovered my back passenger jack has a leak cuz the beeping started again and found a puddle on the base of Jack. Ugh always something to fix on this thing lol Hope it's not gonna be to much of a pain to fix that now lol
Will my hydraulics affect my power steering if my Hydraulics are not level a level button is not off will that affect my driving
Your jacks have nothing to do with your steering. Two different systems , you should check your fluid in the power steering pump. Hope this helps
Mine is leaking fluid, haven’t looked at it yet but I’ll check that cap. Also, my panel on the inside doesn’t really do anything if you press the buttons. They randomly light up. Bad board?
I'd say the panel is lose check the connections.. if they are good probably a bad panel
@@RollinwiththeBolens where can you buy parts for these bounders?
@@totalpackagedetailingllc4413 try some rv bone yards.. they are getting hard to get parts for, part of the reason we went to a fifth wheel. You can also contact Fleetwood the may have some new old stock parts available, or can recommend a replacement that would work for you.
My Fleetwood Pace Arrow keeps the light on and the passenger front wont even go down. Note to self... Check Fluid! Thanks Brother!
Great info now i hope to find my dipstick on the levelers too....
+Mike m thank you good luck with your hunt!
Been trying to figure out why front jacks went up but rear ones stayed down? Fuses? or fluid low?
It could be low on fluid.. or could be a loss of power to the jacks.. or one of the relays on the pu.p itself..I would start with fluid level first then on to relays.. your fuse shouldn't be bad if your front jack is working! Hope this helps
It pretty much has to be a relay or valve issue. All three pumps draw from the same tank. If the fluid is low, none of them will work.
hello where is the windshield washerfluid resivour located on the bounder? I have 1991 fleetwood bounder I recently purchased.
It should be under the hood just under the windshield
Okay thank you will do
thank you
Your welcome
I know this dosent have anything to do with levelling. I have the same bounder as you, can you tell me where the water pump is? Thank you rick
I assume you mean the house water pump , it is located on the drivers side of your coach just behind your rear wheel in your luggage bay.. open your luggage bay door look to the left in that small hole it's in there your hot water tank bypass is also located in there.. so under your bathroom area if your outside looking at it.. I would take a picture an send.. but we no longer own the bounder.. good luck
Brought a round air filter in to Auto Zone, the girl ask me what it was. That actually happened.
Lol... sometimes it can be a real adventure going to the auto parts store even for what should be the simplest things!
Love it when a plan comes together :)
me too
Guess where mine is where you open the hood everythings is in reach but the tank is for fluid is behind the grill straight down where I can't reach it , I am 4'9 . Dud !!!
They don't make anything easy to reach on most rvs unfortunately...
Nice thanks for sharing some knowledge with us all!
Could you do a video of how you work the leveling jacks? Ive never used mine.
i'm sure we can work that out! thanks for watching michael
I found the Milwaukee Cylinder intro video about the leveling jacks. Remember to have the engine running, in park, and I guess it should fire up? I have a '94 Ford Bounder I inherited. The lights only came on once, and I couldn't move them up or down. I guess I have some wiring to check.
what do do if the jacks specially the rght rear one o not retract fully
You'll have to release the pressure.. and manually retract the jack
Thanks for the info. I Hope thats all I need too.
I have been under all parts of my camper 2004 Fleet-wood Bounder and cannot find the pump.
I have leveling jack that wont come up any advice .
Do the other jacks go up?
Yes the do go up
Could be low pressure in the line.. if that's not it could be a solenoid stuck or went bad... you can try lubricating the springs and the shaft then reset the jacks
Thank you what kind of spray should I use ?
You can use wd40 , or some white grease available at any automotive parts supply
Did adding the fluid fix the problems?
+K man yes it did fix the problem of the alarm going off.
I have been under all parts of my camper 2004 Fleetwood Bounder and cannot find the pump. WTF
Yours may be in one of your under belly storage.. you may need to follow your hydraulic lines from your jack back to your tank.. I wish I could be of more help on yours but I've never worked or looked for any components on your year of bounder.. when you find it your welcome to post it on here in the comments for others to use as a reference
I have a 99 Bounder, mine is in the compartment with the house batteries.
The plate is right above the battery posts. Do NOT let it drop onto the batteries and short them out!
Once the plate is removed, the tank will be right in front of you. Even with a skinny funnel its almost impossible to pour into. Use either a transfer pump or the previously mentioned turkey baster.
great vid , did you run the legs up and down 3 times and re check to get the air out of all the rams and pipes ,
I did burp the system.. the footage got lost of that step... but thank you for pointing that out for everyone to bleed the air from system .. an thanks for watching and commenting
Very helpful. Thanks
no problem , thanks for watching
WOW I have a 98 bounder and my reservoir is other side under slide out
Rick Butler that would be nice if they would have done that on all units
@@RollinwiththeBolens what year is yours?
Rick Butler ours is a 96
@@RollinwiththeBolens o ok that's probley the difference, I have a V-10, and with ford running gear .strange. good rig it flys down the road
But autozone has nothing to do with servicing your hydraulic jack system!
Also someone broke emergency brake. Thats not working and we need to pass inspection.
That's gonna be your auto park feature.. that I can't help you with .. I have never got mine to work properly myself.. also had it rebuilt by a shop still never functioned... best of luck with that!
there no servicemen any more! youtube is the only help out there today SAD but that the new America way
Unfortunately it is really becoming that way.. very very sad for sure.. thanks for watching and commenting
Agreed and I pay for good sam and had a minor break down on a cross country trip last year, after 2 days of people calling and saying they would show and not I finally had some one come out.
I need help on a 99 Damon Intruder the leveling Jack they won't go down can anybody help me it's electrical I think
Check all your fuses.. inside and your relays at the pump.. check your wiring at the pump and motor for the jacks.. if everything is good there it's probably a circuit board inside
Everything was also trying to upsell you
Yep I'm sure they was, didn't work out for them though.
Thanks for watching and commenting

+FoxRV that's right sometimes something simple turns into a odyssey!
i hate autozone as well
Lol.. I don't really hate the store as a whole.. just the employees that don't know what they are talking about , an try an sale me something I don't need or want , ecspecily when I haven't told them any information on the project I'm working on. But I do think they need some sort of training an have good general knowledge of a automobile!
You turned a 4 minute video into a 20 minute video with so much fluff, fluff talk
