Graveyard Rats was the most horrifying for me simply because of the setting (as in location), the rats and the monsters didn’t scare me at all, but the idea of being stuck underground and seeing it on screen freaked me out so bad.
Exactly the same feeling for me 😂
Relatable. I'm not phobic or anything extreme, but I really hate rodents.
I liked it because it reminded me of Poe's 'premature burial'.
@@pablodelsegundo95021ll0
My favorite episode, by far, is The Murmuring...which is a master class in how to craft an old school tale of loss, love, grief and ghosts. Stunning in every way.
Oh man, I'm curious as to why. This was easily the worst for me. It was basically 50% bird watching 30% the same ghost scene over and over, 15% predictable "twist" and 5% insufferable main character
I really liked that one. It was a little cliche, to be fair, but the acting, cinematography and pacing were just perfect.
It seemed by the books and slow
“The Autopsy” should be the final episode, right after “The Viewing”. David Prior is a genius ❤
Loved autopsy was my top fav
i really liked this series! i actually loved "pickman's model", it was my favorite episode (also loved "the murmuring", my two favorites). i enjoy watching your videos because we have pretty different taste, so it's always interesting getting to know your opinion!
I agree ❤
I know it was my favorite. Weird.
pickmans model was absolutely awful
I really appreciated Pinkmans too. It was the most frightening to me actually
the murmuring really reminded me of the haunting of hill house since it's more psychological and has just an overall feeling of melancholy
My personal ranking is:
8. Dreams in the Witch House (Something about this was cheesy to me)
7. The Viewing (I don't understand why this is people's favorite? the characters don't speak like humans)
6. Pickman's Model (Liked the atmosphere, story was lacking)
5. Lot 36 (middle of the road, but I liked it more than most people apparently)
4. Graveyard Rats (The ending was so Edgar Allan Poe)
3. The Outside (I wasn't sure about this one at first but there was something so captivating about it)
2. The Murmuring (this was gorgeous)
1. The Autopsy (The best horror aspect of all the episodes)
Autopsy was shite
I agree with about the Viewing. The characters didn't feel like people and also it was quite boring.
The Viewing is the worst.
I like your list! Although Graveyard Rats was my second favorite. It was fun and really well done, and the rats gave me the ick.
The Viewing is one of the most beautiful and aesthetically awesome. But there's no plot. At all. It's about nothing. It's last in my ranking as well.
I think it's so interesting how everyone has such wildly different rankings! It just goes to show that this show really had something for everyone. The Viewing is also my favourite. The hypnotic music, the super-saturated lighting, the dream-like setting... Nothing beats the feeling Cosmatos brings to his work.
Lovecraftian horror is by far one of the hardest to do right.
from beyond (1986) is probably the most accurate depiction imo
I’m obsessed with “The Outside” this was a great reminder for me to watch it again 😂
“The Murmuring” is BY FAR my fav episode! 🖤
That episode is a work of art. Definitely a good choice to end the series.
Same that or The Autopsy
i was crying when she opens her arms and tells the little boy to be free. then by the end when she decides to talk with her partner. it was so beautifully sad.
Absolutely!!! Beautiful
great ranking! The Viewing and The Autopsy were my favorites too in that order! we NEED a season 2 of this show
The Outside reminds me of the live action dr Seuss movies. It’s so colorful and unhinged and I LOVE it
I just got to "Pickman's model" i still think it's the creepiest by far, since it included gory paintings, best moments is in "The Autopsy" where he sensed the back of his neck told him to run but don't know why.. i like the idea of "The Outside", "The Viewing" shows promises but lacked on the story part, like they care more about snorting cocaine than the whole plot
And "The Murmuring", the one wrote by GDT itself.. it's a perfect blend of a marriage drama and a haunted house story, and finally it was a happy ending (no one dead) at the end.. except the ghost 😁
Was the Viewing anyone elses least favorite episode? Literally thought it awful. Barely anything happens in the first 45 mins, just for a bunch of stuff to happen in the last 15.
Fr. I really don't understand why people like it
Yeah i thought it was really slow and the ending was pretty weak.
It's just ok. Visually impressive but like everything Panos Cosmatos does is all flash and no substance. I liked the character of the Asian girl, was the only relatable one, followed from very far away by the novelist. Everyone else was just an asshole,
Yeah, I didn’t understand the story, a lot does happen right around the end,& I honestly got lost halfway through. The actual acting was superb, the special effects were cool, but nothing made sense.
@@zeej80 I loved the ending as well! I just think they could've done SO much more with the time they had before those events happen. There's so much dialogue in the first 75% of the episode... but it ends up not even really adding anything to the actual story.
I really liked "The Outside" too! Such an entertaining episode and something I have not seen before in that way. I also completely agree with your other two episodes in the top 3. They truly were the best episodes :) I am kind of sad that I could not enjoy the story about the grave digger and the rats as much, especially since I love Cube and In The Tall Grass :(
I think The Outside was my favorite. There's a homely, awkward (and chubby) reflection of my childhood still shaping my tastes and motivations in my 40s.
If anyone is interested,
'Pickman's Model' was done as part of an episode of Rod Serling's 'Night Gallery', S2E11.
'Dreams in the Witch House' was an episode of 'Masters of Horror', S1E2.
'Graveyard Rats' was done as a segment of 'Trilogy of Terror 2', (1996).
Guilllermo del Toro has been a great horror stories teller ever since he was here in Mexico. I used to love his series that were very popular at 90's they were frightnen and intriguide. I'm so happy for his success he totally deserves to be where he is now, I'm so proud of him as mexican. 🇲🇽💪
Actually for me the viewing was the worst😂😂 and then the autopsy is my number one. My jaw dropped by the end. ( and I m not an alien movie lover).
I found the viewing really boring.. not my cup of Tea.
Great video! And the series was really great for Halloween.
Totally agree! The viewing was soooo boring to me, bottom of my list. The autopsy and, surprisingly, Lot 36 is at the top. Lot 36 is the only one I really want to rewatch. I thought the story was the most interesting. And the rat one just kept going on and on, I lost interest
Ironically, those 2 were my favorites of the series.
The viewing was a bit boring, but sofia is one of my fav actors and the visuals were just so fucking aesthetically pleasing i didn't care. The autopsy was great in terms of visuals and story telling too.
Panos has such a unique style that it either really speaks to you or it does very little, so you aren't alone.
I was also bored by the viewing, but I was excited to see Eric Andre in it.
Autopsy was best one in my opinion. I also liked Lot 36 and The Outside. The Viewing was boring to me. I also love Guillermo del Toro! I enjoyed his intros to each episode very much.
My favorite is “The Autopsy”, I LOVED F. Murray Abraham in this. The suspense, setting, & look was very ominous to me & it kinda reminded me of “The Autopsy of Jane Doe” with the eeriness & sense of dread. “The Outside” is a close second. It was very unexpected. Sooo thought provoking & riveting. The husband stole my heart. Dan Stevens was amazing, he does creepy host, QVC brand ambassador so well lol! My least are “Pickman’s Model” though I liked Crispin Glover, & “Dreams in the Witch House”. I was totally lost & confused & I became fixated on Rupert Grint’s hair 😳🤭. “Graveyard Rats” was very enjoyable & I loved the grave keeper he was hilarious to me. “The Murmuring” was sweet & I loved seeing Andrew Lincoln but I felt it didn’t belong & needed to be a love story instead. “Lot 36” was ok, the protagonist was an a-hole, grumpy & pressed for no reason. I was glad at the end lol! “The Viewing”……I don’t know what I watched 😂. Overall, I liked it more than I thought I would.
Graveyard Rats was my husband and my favorite, also that was David Hewlett and he is a wonderful actor in everything I've seen him in always will bring me back to Stargate Atlantis where I first saw him.
Pickmans Model was my favorite, I love psychological horror and this episode hit everything I was looking for in this show also Ben Barns is one of my current favorite actors so that’s a plus
My ranking :
8. The outside (too predictable and unoriginal concept wise. Felt like a very bad commercial)
7. Dreams in the witch house (some decent horror elements but unnecessary long)
6. The Murmuring (chilling at first cause gave me The haunting of hill house vibes, but then got way too cheesy)
5. Lot 36 (this to me was the perfect choice as a pilot episode. Entertaining enough to make me wanna continue)
4. Graveyard rats (this was horrifying to me and left me with anxiety)
3. The Viewing (exceptionally weird, loved the conversations they were having !)
2. The Autopsy (the perfect mix between gruesome and mystery. I agree with the fact that NO one could have predicted where this was going at all)
1. Pickman's model (the horror in this was very effective for me)
Same for the same reasons
Very cool to see other people's lists! I think mine seems to be a tad different to everyone else's which is pretty interesting!:
8: The Murmuring
(Too drawn out, more of a drama than a horror)
7: Graveyard rats
(The terrible accents and the acting from the main character absolutely killed this one for me)
6: Lot 36
(Not much happening in this one but enjoyed the Occult elements)
5: The Viewing
(Not into the whole drug infused cinematography thing, interesting story but too much time spent making things look pretty imo)
4: Dreams in the Witch House
(Fantasy elements were beautiful, the ridiculous ending spoiled the vibe and should've lent more towards the horror aspect of the Witch)
3: Pickman's model
(I'm a sucker for a Lovecraftian storyline and for Ben Barnes, what more can I say)
2: The Outside
(Great! Gave me 'The Stuff' mixed with Tales from the crypt/ Creepshow vibes)
1: The Autopsy
(Cosmic horror at its absolute finest, loved everything about this one! Think 'The Thing' meets 'Autopsy of Jane Doe')
I haven't finished the series but I completely agree with you on Graveyard Rats. I was pretty much waiting for it to be over after the first few minutes. The accents were awful and I could not stand the lead character. The episode felt like it went on way too long.
I haven't had this much fun watching a series in a long time. I really hope there are more volumes to come!
My top two are the same as yours. I loved the viewing! That had me transfixed for every minute of its run time.
Also, you mentioned in your discussion here that you’ve never seen Splice or A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night. I would love to hear your option on both! (They’re in my collection) Splice is really disturbing! It’s not great but it’s a fun ride. Girl Walks Home is just pure art.
i really liked pickmans model, that might just be my love for lovecraft though, i liked all the references to his work. the murmuring was probably my favorite though.
I was hoping for more practical effects for this series but it delivered both cgi and practical pretty well. My favorites were the viewing, the autopsy and the murmuring
I think the best “Dreams from the Witch House” and most faithful is the one from the Masters of Horror anthology
Just finished the whole series and to me, "The murmuring" was just perfect. I absolutely loved it. More drama than horror, for sure, but so well-done! "The autopsy" was my second favorite, followed by "The Outside". Overall though, I think each episode has something great to offer and I had a good time watching the whole series.
I loved this series ❤ Took me back to my childhood in the 80/90’s. Brought me back to Tales from the Darkside and Tales from the Crypt and so on. So much fun watching them all.
Those 80s anthologies are exactly what gave me a lifelong infatuation for horror anthologies. I think Twilight Zone the Movie was the first one to rock my world, back in 2nd grade.
@@pablodelsegundo9502 ditto!
The Outside was my LEAST favorite, I guess I’m in the minority because I loved Pickman’s Model! I do think they made a mistake having Lot 36 as the first episode because it just wasn’t super strong. Here’s my ranking:
#1 The Autopsy
#2 The Viewing
#3 Pickman’s Model
#4 The Murmuring
#5 Graveyard Rats
#6 Dreams in the Witch House
#7 Lot 36
#8 The Outside
I liked pickmans model too! Idk where all the gate comes from . That ending was sooo fucked up ( and good )?
Looooved this. Finished it today. I was skeptical for a few reasons. Mostly because horror anthologies have been so hit and miss. This has no bad episodes. The lotion episode is absolutely too long for it's subject matter. I believe it's the longest of the bunch. Very puzzling. But this really gets top marks all around from me.
What we need is a streaming anthology horror series that takes advantage of one of the upsides of streaming tv: It has no set run times. Does a story need an hour to tell? Ok, that episode will be an hour long. Does it only need 20 minutes? We will NOT stretch it out to an hour; not even to 30 minutes. It will be 20 minutes long. For really short stories, you could do a compilation episode or two with those stories.
I loved this series so much! My ranking:
1. The Autopsy
2. Pickman's Model
3. The Murmuring
4. Lot 36
5. Graveyard Rats
6. Dreams in the Witch House
7. The Outside
8. The Viewing
8. The viewing
7. Dreams in the witch house
6. The mumering
5. Pickman's model
4. Graveyard Rats
3. Lot 36
2. The outside
1. The autopsy
Crazy how people get different things from horror. You loved the viewing and I found it to be so boring that by the time the horror started I had already checked out of the episode. It's the only one I wouldn't recommend people to check out
The Outside is definitely my favorite!!! Love that you did an episode ranking! 👏❤
Loved all of them. The autopsy and pickman's model are my favorite two but all the others are really good as you said noje of them are bad it just comes down to our preferences. Thank you for your videos
I loved it. It was the highlight of my Halloween weekend
i loved every episode for different reasons, but graveyard rats was my most favourite episode - moral of the story; don't steal from the dead and don't fuck with rats! i also really enjoyed the murmuring, a very powerful episode xx
OMG YES! The Viewing was so freaking amazing and I find myself constantly listening to the song from the soundtrack
My favorite episode by far was The Autopsy, it just was so surreal and creepy to me. As a huge fan of The Empty Man I guess I shouldn't have been surprised lmao. The Murmuring was a close runner-up just for being as competent and scary as it was. I think the weakest one was Dreams in the Witch House, it just didn't land for me at all.
I couldn’t agree with this list more. Thanks for doing it!!
I think they all seemed unfinished. Was very disappointed....
they should make this every halloween.
Personally, Dreams in the Witch House was my favorite! It was spooky in my opinion, not scary but spooky, atmospheric and quirky. I'm probably the only one here who has read the story lol. I'm a HUGE HP Lovecraft fan. He's one the creators of modern horror/sci so I had high hopes of this one in particular. Rupert did amazing! I've watched it about ten times. I hope the king Guillermo keeps up this series.
I really enjoyed all episodes except for The Viewing. It had a cool retro Dune vibe and I like Eric Andre but there was a lot of muddy political overtones and I’m not into alien horror really. Only one I kinda felt nothing towards, ending was also abrupt. Loved the Murmuring, Lot 36 was amusing. I hope he does more seasons as I loved the diversity of time periods too. :) The Murmuring was so heartbreaking and beautiful, Jennifer Kent is amazing with taking the paranormal/spooky and tragic elements of life and weaving such wonderful stories. I felt so badly for both characters and felt their struggle was palpable to the audience. Amazing acting and writing!
As a huge fan of the old Tales From the Crypt series I'm happy to hear it's good.
Andrew Lincoln, Rupert Grint, Peter Weller, and Essie Davis...yes, please!
I hope Crispin Glover dances in his episode, Lol.
I really loved this series!! It was so good. Guillermo del Toro is so amazing. 👏 Thank you for the review & ranking video!! 💕
I’m really happy they ended the series on The Murmuring. On top of it being a visually beautiful episode, I felt a lot of relief and emotional catharsis by the end. Jennifer Kent continues to handle grief very well in her projects.
I was waiting for your review 💜 I really liked this anthology. For me it would be:
1. Lot 36
2. The autopsy
3. The viewing
4. The murmuring
5. The outside
6. Pickmans model
7. Graveyard rats
8. Dreams in the witch house
Hi. Thank you a lot for the review 😌
Here is my personal ranking list:
1. Autopsy
2. The Outside
3. The Viewing
4. Graveyard rats
5. Pickman's model
6. Lot 36
7. The murmuring
8. Dreams in a witch's house
The Outside is so ❤❤❤❤
Here’s my ranking!
1. The Outside
2. The Autopsy
3. Lot 36
4. The Murmuring
5. Pickman’s Model
6. Graveyard Rats
7. The Viewing
8. Dreams in the Witch House
I am so surprised you enjoyed The Viewing! It built toward nothing, didn’t let the characters shine, and the ultimate “reveal” wasn’t…anything. It could have been done so much better! Great foundation, horrible structure. My biggest gripe is the fantastic characterization didn’t really pay off in any way. We didn’t get to see any interaction between those elements and the mystery. I was very curious to see why he brought an author there, for instance. That maybe he would ultimately have insight. But they just walk in the room and all explode lol. I guess my opinion is due to the fact I’m a Mandy girlie and NOT a BTBR girlie.
Interesting that Packman's model was your least favorite, I liked it a lot. It really captured that elusive Lovecraft mood, and Glovers performance (and accent!) was just delightful.
I do agree with you that all the episodes where fun in their own right, and I mostly agree with your top picks.
Sarah! Since you loved the Outside so much and you're a reader, you should really put Emily Carroll's 'Through the Woods' on your list! She is one of my favorite comic creators and this is a collection of super spooky short stories!
The Murmuring was probably my least favorite not because it was a bad story, but because it didn't belong in this anthology. The tonal shift was too abrupt, the horror elements were too scarce, and it made me feel like the show was ending with a fizzle. I wish it had been released as its own standalone short.
For me it was quite different 😂:
1. The autopsy
2. Pickman's model
3. Graveyard rats
That was mine as well.
I wanted and thought Pickmans Model would be my favorite but it wasn't but it's probably my third favorite. I kinda wanted more to the story and I liked the ending. My number 1 came to be Dreams in the Witch House with Graveyard Rats in 2nd. Pickmans Model and Lot 36.
Our list was exactly the same, except for The Viewing and The Autopsy, which are swapped between us. As soon as The Viewing started, I was like, "I don't even care what happens in the next hour, I'm gonna love this episode" cause it's just so visually stunning. The Autopsy only wins out for me because of the horror elements 😋😋
My ranking
The Viewing - number 1 BEST
The Autopsy - Number 2
The Murmuring 3
Pinkmans Model 4
Lot 36 5
Dreams in the witch House 6
Outside
Graveyard Rats
But I appreciated elements of all of these
---
I’ll go into more detail now maybe spoilers….
I love the Viewing because it really was character driven and it was a vibe. I WISH it was a full movie!!! I’m even throwing a themed party around this. It’s the only one I’ve watched again and again. I didn’t like his other two movies but the story of this one - I like.
The Autopsy - the ACTING was AMAZING. I loved the fact that they spent time getting to see the relationship between the sherif and the Dr. it made the Dr’s sacrifice mean a lot more to me. It was a really cool story too. It was refreshing.
The Murmuring was the only one I cried at. It was beautiful
Thanks to everyone leaving your own personal rankings. It’s interesting to see how people responded to individual episodes. :) While there are certainly rough trends in the preferences expressed, it’s neat to see almost all of the episodes being someone’s favourite. :)
The Viewing really stood out from the very first few seconds, because they really went all in to make a cinematic and very atmospheric movie. Not one second I felt like I was watching a tv production, while the rest (besides Murmuring) felt more or less televisual.
The 8th episode was probably my favorite. Like you said it was absolutely beautiful. I liked most of them but found them on the cheesy side. I agreed with for 1st and 2nd choices though. They would be in my top 3 as well. Unique and fun!
I liked all of them but my #8.
8th place- The Viewing
7th place- Dreams in the Witch House
6th place- Pickman's Model
5th place- Graveyard Rats
4th place- Lot 36
3rd place- The Murmuring
2nd place- The Autopsy
1st place- The Outside
As a Lovecraftian aficionado, I LOVED this entire series! Most of these stories tied into the Cthulhu mythos in some way.
The way i've been waiting for you to review this and i finally watched The outside yesterdat and was looking for a review you finally put up your review. yesss
My top 3 for sure where 3.The Outside 2.The Viewing 1.The Autopsy. Hope we get a season 2.
The Outside wasn't a period episode. Their house and clothes were very 80's looking, but if you look at the bank they have modern computers and there's a modern TV in the house. Their house and the main couple were just kind of a time capsule (I think symbolizing something about them being stuck).
This series is so interesting. Literally everyone has their own list :D usually most of them are the same for most people but with this one it's so interesting.
The outside was one of my favourites!! As someone who has suffered with moderate to severe eczema and had head to to break outs, the horror in that episode was almost unbearable, didn’t realize I needed a rash trigger warning but it was so good
I haven't had a lot of free time lately, so I'm still trying to finish the series. The last episode I watched was "The Outside". I agree with having that one and "The Autopsy" tied, so far. Those two are definitely my favorites, at this point. "Lot 36" felt like a "dipping my toes in" kind of episode, but I didn't mind it. "Graveyard Rats" was my worst nightmare, honestly. I'm musophobic, and I've actually had nightmares of those exact encounters in the episode. I'm proud of myself for getting through it without having a panic attack, but I will definitely have to look away from the screen during the rat scenes if I ever watch it again.
8. Pickman's Model
7. The Viewing
6. The Murmuring
5. Dreams in the Witch House
4. Lot 36
3. The Outside
2. Graveyard Rats
1. The Autopsy
Honestly I find it fun and interesting how so many people have different rankings of the episodes.
Just to share, my personal ranking and notes:
1. The Murmuring - as a big fan of Babadook, this episode was a good choice to be put as the final episode as it leaved a good note on the series, its metaphors and visuals are outstanding and I'm sure I'm gonna find myself rewatching it
2.The Autopsy - after recently watching The Empty Man (I postponed watching it cause I thought it would be a Bye Bye Man knock off) , I was pretty pleased when I saw the autopsy, the cinematography, the different ways of story telling, the accuracy of the time-period ,sooo good
3.Pickman's Model - even tho the ending can be too dragged on and predictable, I found the story quite fascinating and I was really intrigued by the style of the paintings and their "power", maybe it was more effective for me personally cause I also happen to draw and paint so the subject was more appealing
4.Graveyard Rats - a more fun story than Dreams with more substance
5.Dreams in the Witch House - a fun story but a pretty meh ending that comes out of nowhere
6.Lot 36 - its ok-ish, not too much to think about
7.Viewing
8.The Outside
(for 7 and 8, I can see how people would enjoy these, but as a non-Mandy-enjoyer, I didnt quite like them so much, i found outside too predictable and I didnt really care for the main character , as for the Viewing, even tho aesthetically pleasing, I found its characters quite dull and couldnt really focus that much)
EDIT: honestly if The Outside would have had a split second at the end showing the main character in pain(the reality) in the end (quite like another movie we know, one that starts with S), I would have placed it much higher
“The murmuring” was by far the best one !!! It was so beautiful/ suspenseful it honestly could have been a full feature length film. And my least favorites were “ the viewing”/ “ the outside” it was so boring, stunning visuals just overall not exciting. At all.
i'm only halfway through the series but i LOVED graveyard rats! it was the perfect blend of fun and horror for me - and the underground tunnels were horrifying as a claustrophobic person
Pickman’s Model is my number one. I also loved the vibe of The Murmuring.
I am absolutely obsessed with your movie collection😍
1. Graveyard Rats
2. The Viewing
3. The Autopsy
4. The Outside
5. Lot 36
6. The Murmuring
7. Pickman's Model
8. Dreams From The Witch House
The only one I didn't care for was Dreams, the rest I rated 3.5 stars and up. A VERY strong anthology.
8. Lot 36
7. Pickman's Model
6. Dreams in the Witch House
5. The Outside
4. The Murmuring
3. Graveyard Rats
2. The Viewing
1. The Autopsy
I just binged the whole thing and don't feel like watching anything after because everything seems soo dull. There were some that I wasn't crazy about like the skin cream one but this was the best series
To me the Panos ep was the most Lovecrftian of them all. Shocked by how captivating Eric Andre was and also watched Screamers again that day which made seeing modern Peter Weller that much more exciting!
Worst to best. The Outside, Lot 36, The Viewing, Pickmans Model, Graveyard Rats, Dreams in the Witch House, The Autopsy, The Murmuring.
Tbh I wasn’t planning on watching this but hearing it’s an anthology I’m intrigued. Also I think I’ll probably love pickman’s model (Dorian gray vibes?) lot 36c (storage wars!!) and the murmuring (birds!) based on my oddly specific interests and what I usually like so I’m intrigued!!
As soon as I saw Sofia Boutella in the viewing I had hopes it would be amazing and it rlly was.
My rankings are:
Worst
8 - The Viewing
7 - The Outside
6 - Lot 36
Best
5 - Pickman's Model
4 - Graveyard Rats
3 - Dreams in the Witche's House
2 - The Autopsy
1 - The Murmuring
My ranking:
1) The Autopsy (10/10)
2) The Murmuring (9/10)
3) Graveyard Rats (8.5)
4) Pickman's Model (7.5/10)
5) Lot 36 (7.5/10)
6) The Viewing (6/10)
7) Dream in the Witch's House (4/10)
8) The Outside (3/10)
I loved the video though, it's a lot of fun listening to people with different tastes, keep up the good work.
8: Dreams in the Witch House
7: The Murmuring
6: Pickman's Model
5: Lot 36
4: Graveyard Rats
3: The Outside
2: The Autopsy
1: The Viewing
Sorry, but The Murmuring was out of place compared to the theme and context of the surrounding episodes. It was cliche, contrived, predictable and boring. The acting was like watching two boring, ugly people without chemistry try to make a porno. The cinematography was about as stimulating as a bowl of oatmeal, and about as tasteless as well. I would have preferred an actual documentary about ornithology to be honest. I only gave it second to last place because Andrew Lincoln was decent and it was nice to see him play a character so unlike his type casting.
The Outside was hands down my favorite and i also would love to see this as a full movie.
Pickman's model and dreams in the witch house were my favorite but I am really into " Gothic Horror". I love the visuals.
The Autopsy was far and away my favorite. All the rest I really liked certain elements of, but disliked others. For me, personally, The Autopsy had it all.
In my humble opinion:
8. Dreams in the Witch House (disappointing but the ending was a given)
7. The Viewing (it's giving prologue and the survivors are expected a series just for them)
6. Lot 36 (could've been more and longer)
5. The Pickman's Model (just okay)
4. The Outside (fun, insightful and weird)
3. Graveyard Rats (fun and straightforward)
2/1 The Autopsy (that ending...wow)
2/1 The Murmuring (gorgeous)
I thought the rat one was just so bad lmao and was thankful it was super short. I very much (respectfully of course!!) disagree with your bottom one for me personally it kept me interested even if it was a bit predictable but I see where you're coming from with the Rupert Grint episode I just enjoy his acting in general so that kept me liking it well enough. Lot 36 I think was my least favorite after the rat one for some of the reasons you stated so I get it's placement. I do think I'm with you for your top ones though. I liked all 3 of them a lot for very different reasons so a bit hard for me to compare them in a ranking lol
Graveyard rats what a horrible installation
Agree with a lot of your thoughts on this! Though The Outside was definitely not set in the 80s…they had cell phones and flat screen tvs…I think the character was just stuck in the 80s.
omg you’re so right, the cell phone kind of looks like a blackberry so maybe it’s an early 2000’s episode!
(Spoilers) There’s a lot of interesting things about the era of the episode since I’ve seen it’s supposed to be 80’s from some places but then there’s the 90’s looking cell phone and later the flip phone and a few other quirky details that make the time feel off which I think adds to the whole altered reality !!
The Viewing, The Autopsy, and Graveyard Rats are my top 3.
I loved autopsy I really liked the design of the witch in dreams in the witch house. The murmuring made me cry the story got to me !
YES the outside was so so good!!
My personal ranking (worst to best): 8. The Viewing, 7. The Murmuring, 6. Dreams in the Witch House, 5. Pickman's Model, 4. The Outside, 3. Lot 36, 2. Graveyard Rats, 1. The Autopsy.
I'm glad you liked the outside! I saw other people say it was the worst. It was so campy I loved it!
I feel like this is a pretty unpopular opinion, but Lot 36 was definitely my favorite! I thought the ending was so satisfying even if it was easy to predict.
I thought the same tbh
My list is similar (varies slightly due to subjective taste and what sort of things I find scary)
8. Dreams in the Witch house
7. Pickman’s Model
6. Lot 36
5. The Murmuring
4. Graveyard Rats 🐀
3. Outside
2. Autopsy
1. The Viewing (Doctor Zara and a bowl 🍚 of Coke…what more do you need?)
Good review. I have to re-watch The Viewing--didn't care for it much on first go-round. BTW, Michael Shea is not a recent horror/sci-fi author. He died in 2014, sadly. The Autopsy was written around 1980, I believe.
Great video! Thank you! I ADORE Guillermo del Toro, so I watched these episodes as soon as they were available. I agreed with your ranking for the most part. I ranked Lot 39 quite a bit higher. Just thought it was creepy and fun with a totally despicable antagonist played by a great character actor (love him but can't remember his name right now). My second favorite was The Viewing...so phantasmagorical!!!!! My number one was The Autopsy. SO shockingly original and horrifying with great acting all around!
Obsessed with this series !! Here’s my ranking (top 3 are totally interchangeable with each other they’re so good):
1. The Outside
2. The Viewing
3. The Autopsy
4. Graveyard Rats
5. The Murmuring
6. Dreams in the Witch House
7. Lot 36
8. Pickman’s Model
