One of the few times I've agreed with Russo. Couple points though: 1. It's a bit of a word play, but Punk said in the presser that he would walk up and down the hall if anyone had anything to say to him. Not the dressing room. 2. The fact that the head of legal allowed them to go into the room is really ridiculous. Anyone with management experience knows you would separate these people and then book a meeting. Especially with athletes involved. At the end of the day, no active talent should be office and the boss needs to be the boss.
I was explaining this to AEW apologists back when it happened. I am an executive at a company. I've been a member of a board. There's no way in fucking hell, that I would confront an angry employee (even with a legal representative) right after they have a blow up. If anything, I would consult HR/Legal, and an intermediary might contact them or go to their office (with security) and ask them to pack things up/leave, escort them out. THEN we would contact them when they are offsite, and if we have to arrange a meeting, arrange a meeting. There would be a discussion first. There would be ground rules. Then a separate meeting would happen (this is IF its even worth talking to this person). I would never, in all my career, go into someone's office and confront them lmao. The lawyer basically made themselves liable and culpable in a huge freaking screw up, and is likely a witness to inappropriate behavior, making it even WORSE for the company.
@wonipowa7542 💯 That made a tense situation even worse. I can't even remotely believe that someone in legal (the HEAD of legal at that) allowed that. This is more than likely why we aren't seeing any of the legal documents online. (Unless they are somehow leaked, of course)
That way they can keep things strictly clear- talent does the wrestling, management abuses their positions of power to coerce female members of staff to sleep with them and then gets them to sign NDA's... And does this for decades! Er... Ever get the feeling that there has never been a correctly run wrestling company in the history of wrestling? Tell us the relationship between Ted Turner and WCW again? 🤣😂 Ultimately given the troubled history of the thing, having anyone speak with authority about how to run a company is an exercise in selective facts.

I'm not a Russo fan, but this was an excellent change of pace from Disco constantly putting the blame solely on Punk for this trainwreck. The bigger issues are Tony's lack of a spine and the Elite playing childish games to undermine a star in the company when they're in management positions.
Yep. They could have him be the one to beat Roman for the title and then go on to beat Bruno Sammartino's record and he would still complain that they're not "treating him right".@@theecharmingbilly
Someone’s finally talking about Shad Kahn and the fact that his son hired talent to perform fiduciary duties in a corporate setting. That would be like the President of a record company hiring the bass player and drummer from one band and the singer from another band to run the record company. Absolute negligence and stupidity. Hope his dad steps in.
You hire people with production experience who won't be on camera in storylines/matches. It's not a difficult concept. Take a guy like QT Msrshall, as long as he has agreed to help with "creative" He's off the roster, he's not in matches or storylines anymore.
Punk is responsible for the best show they have right now, and most of the upswing in their talent development, and he's the problem? How about you guys address the fact that ALL of the drama comes from thirdhand "sources", gossip sites and the Elite's friends, whereas almost all of the PUBLIC commentary on Punk from AEW talent is positive. This is why I completely empathize with his reaction at the press scrum. Grown men acting like children all around.
He gave this role to 4 guys . 1 was way too young to put himself into a secondary retirement executive position but has the brain and charm to do the job. The other 3 used their name to make tk fall in love with them and be willing to give ‘em whatever they want to be his friend
Cody was apparently the only one who took it seriously and would go to the meetings, show up early, actually do the job, get on the planes to go do promo (which we saw and noticed with our own two eyes) - notice AEW hardly has anyone to send to upfront anymore or doesn't even bother, because the network would ask and Cody or Brandi would always say yes (seeing the big picture) which is why when Cody left, the executives at the network called and personally begged him to stay and not go.
@@wonipowa7542 your excellent point is exactly what wwe does with Titus and the miz and Maryse They’re all intelligent well spoken always dressed to the nines and are always traveling doing pr for wwe . @@DanB-d4j yep. That is the additional value Cody had to the company. You can look at any of the photo opps and appearances he did for the network and show on the morning news, events, media appearances, talk shows etc, if they asked him he would go. Network wanted to put him in a game show? Cody would say yes. Cody want to do more tv? Yes. Go to an interview? Yes. Represent us at x event? Yes. Who else would they ask to do that? When they saw he was going back to WWE, they knew they weren't just losing a wrestler (which they very likely couldn't care less about). They understood that Cody was a well rounded talent that could be used throughout their product and was valuable. Tony didn't see this same value. Now, look at what Cody does for WWE: he's all over talkshows, he's doing media events, he's representing that at other shows etc etc he's basically doing the John Cena circuit. WWE immediately saw that value and how they could use him. They were watching the whole time, Kahn doesn't see it/doesn't get it and wouldn't know what to do with it if he had it (as demonstrated).
The Young Bucks set the standard with Tony that anyone who he perceives as valuable is allowed to tap dance all over him. If the boss lets one guy steal from the register it’s inevitably going to be the entire staff soon enough. This companies shortcomings always go back to Tony Khan first. Period.
Please don't tell me everyone is giving Punk a pass for how he's acting just because Tony allows it. That's like defending Joseph Goebbels just because he was doing what Hitler told him to do.
Punk being in charge is much better then the Elite. Punk’s ego will ensure stories are told right, angles that make sense. He is a good influence to reign in Khans scatter gun approach. And dare I say it.. Punk is probably going over Dynamite script with TK as well.. which is a good thing.. anyone else notice lately that the stories and angles are actually better now on Dynamite?
Keep sucking Phil's balls. This situation is not sustainable and can't last much longer. I can't wait for this whole thing to implode and for Phil to whine and cry some more and go home for another seven years.
Yeah, Russo has a point. The Elite should have remained as talent and not EVP's. Tony Khan is a doormat, and the locker room knows it. Out of The Elite, I think Omega and Hangman are actually the cool ones. Omega seems more like a peacemaker, and Hangman seems like he just keeps to himself and doesn't want any real trouble. The Bucks, I have read, are passive aggressive, they also have a clear as a day ego. FTR was super hot awhile back, I remember one of their matches with The Briscoes. The Bucks came out at the end, like narcissist, afraid the crowd was gonna forget about them after seeing what FTR and The Briscoes were able to do. That moment really made me look at The Bucks differently.
this is no different as to when WCW signed Ultimate Warrior and Eric Bischoff was shocked to find out that Warrior was tough to work with. Tony Khan should have known that CM Punk was trouble waiting to happen.
@@JM1993951Management didn’t jump Punk I highly doubt The Elite went to fight Punk why having the Head of legal affairs and talent relations with them not to mention it was literally Punk who said if anyone had a problem with what he said they could come see him
It's sort of come full circle, back in 2014 everyone loved CM Punk and hated Reigns due to the podcast. Now everyone loves Reigns and everyone hates Punk.
Punk was publicly buried by their mouthpiece EVERYDAY. After EVERY major event. Then their boy AHP going off script went into business for himself. They may have been professional with Konan, but it’s clear they had very public animosity with Punk.
The FIRST time in 30 years that I fully agreed with Russo! Also, doesn't anyone remember Adam Page publicly shooting on Punk? And all the stuff said by Omega and the Bucks backstage beforehand and months afterward! Also, everything Punk said at the scrum... Tony Kahn shook his head in agreement!!!
I’m not going to say poor Tony, but essentially the power distribution in AEW is a mess. Companies can’t give your regular employees power positions and in wrestling it’s an even worse idea. It probably sounded good from a PR perspective but at the end of the day it’s like giving Lebron power of a GM to pick his teammates (although he should have some say).
Punk beat WWE’s doctor in court over what amounts to negligence. I never really looked at the AEW incident as management assaulting an employee, but that is what it was. Punk is probably set for life.
lol Cornette pointed this out very early on right after it happened. Punk had their balls in a vice because their executives just assaulted an employee. It wasn't a smart situation for AEW.

And explain how that's NOT selfish or egotistical? He's using the naivety of his boss to get everything he wants. That is not a good person. Punk is a known egomaniac who has caused problems and drama in EVERY company he's been in. Are you really stupid enough to not see that the problem is him?
The irony is that the reason CM Punk is even in AEW is because his EVPs weren't drawing enough. Everyone has heard about how CM Punk "can be" (which i think is bullshit, he just stands up for himself), yet they hire him. Have we not forgotten that one of their biggest stars (and an executive) left the company as well like Joe mentioned, reportedly complaining about not being able to get along with his "peers". Vince Russo is right on the money about a lot of things. I listen to his various podcasts every week. He knows what he is talking about and is my favorite person to listen to about wrestling.
At this point, AEW should just switch spots for everything and put the behind-the-scenes drama on tv and the in-ring product behind the scenes. They'd do monster ratings. (Sidenote: 2 minutes in and I already lost count of how many times I heard Vince say "bro" 🤣🤣)

Well he was truthful about 1 thing that he don’t care about the wrestling lmao . He says execs attacked a talent is bad but we don’t even kno who attacked who first tho. They barged in yes but that’s all we really kno. But him saying he doesn’t care about the wrestling as a writer is more appalling IMO
@jimmcdonald9490 to argue who attacked who first is silly. They showed enough aggression to make Ace Steel feel like he had to protect his lady, which I'm sure anyone else would do. Hate Vince Russo, but you know he's right about that point.
Are you seriously saying that none of this is Punk's fault? You're seriously giving a 44 year old man a pass for having a childish temper tantrum at a press conference, making the company look like an entire joke, all because TK allowed it? Really? How much of Phil's Pepsi are you drinking?
Russo has literally no idea what happened, or rather, what's been reported. From multiple sources from people there, the Bucks and Kenny went to Punk's locker room with the lawyer of the company right behind them. They went into the room, and Punk got into Matt Jackson's face, word's were exchanged, and then Punk attacked Matt, Ace Steel threw a chair when Nick got involved that hit Nick in the face. Ace also bit Kenny who it sounds like was trying to break it all up. So no, the "EVPs" didn't attack Punk, he attacked them.
Tony Khan knows nothing about the wrestling business, for proof of this: he thinks that CM Punk is a draw. that's all the evidence I need to show that I'm right.
Who is a draw today, and if you transfered that person to AEW would the rating skyrocket and stay at the peak viewership. And if the numbers fall do we say that person is no longer a draw. If a no draw person like punk goes to wwe and the number go up for his segment is he suddenly a draw again. The draw is wwe as a brand, maybe bad bunny but there's not many draws in the business
@@johnnytheworldowner9130 is cody a draw? Its closer to NFL than the NBA where the brand is bigger than the individual. Everyone is a draw to you because they are in wwe. You swap a couple guys and the people who you think aren't draws suddenly become draws. My perspective is wwe is the draw.
Why's this always the framing. Tony is a grown man. His entire roster seems to control him. Doesn't seem to say no to much.... such as moves, blood and match types are repeated quite frequently. Never apparently said no to Jericho's bad ideas. But it's always "Punk controls Tony".
I think its AMAZING how everybody seems to think Punk is getting one over on Tony..... Maybe, just maybe.... Tony actually chose to give Punk the amount of power that Punk has. Collision is the best thing for AEW. It's a professional wrestling show. That's heavily influenced by Punk. Marks that want to make a mockery of the business watch most of the other stuff. The problem here isn't CM Punk.. it's TK. TK is not running his business. If he were, he would have already squashed this noise.
Jericho is the smartest one in all of this. He knew not to go storming into Punk's locker room with 3 EVP's, 2 agents, and the head of legal (lol). He got to play peacemaker between both sides, and parlayed that into a massive contract that goes into his 60's. Punk is good, but Jericho's the best politician in the game currently (since Hogan retired).
Tony Khan must be freaking out right now. Collision is tanking in the ratings, even without WWE having PPVs on, plus i have to say that the booking of CM Punk vs Samoa Joe has been insanely bad. THE GOLDEN VAMPIRE?! We couldn't have just had CM Punk cut a killer promo accepting Joe's offer?
The term "jumped in the ratings" was used for Collision....while ignoring the 45.8% drop from the week before. Gaining 52k doesn't mean as much when you lost 385k
That's a knee jerk reaction as aew collision hasn't tanked in ratings and they knew going I. Saturdays would fluctuate greatly. What Collision is doing is outperforming anything else they have ever had in that tine alot. 200 too 300k is tanking for this show. Shows worst performance was a recorded episode and going against WWE premium. Collision was 11th on key demo making it more valuable than other shows drawings 1 million.. like Nascar that had a very low demo. Cable networks make money on advertising dollars
He has priors. I don't think Trips is his biggest fan (didn't Punk cut a shoot on Nash?), and... Undertaker in one of his most prescient moves, wouldn't give him a rub. There's got to be more to it that than "CM Punk isn't good enough".
Elite doesn’t want to work with Punk either. Vince doesn’t like wrestling, but his whole life is about wrestling. I have to tell myself, “It is better than Billi.” 😂
This kind of stuff may help Kahn be an overall better leader in the long run. Wrestlers having heat and/or violent altercations with management is as old as the business itself. Anyone can run a company where everyone is best friends and gets along, but navigating this kind of scenario is a true learning experience.
CM Punk literally buried the whole company in front of the media. And even told the Bucks and Omega to come see him in person if they have problems. Punk was Combative, Instigating and pushing for a fight it was literally all in the scrum. So can we stop this idea that Punk was just a innocent little worker and did nothing worng. Im not even a Bucks and Omega fan but it's just annoying.
For real, Russo realizes that Punk and Ace are the ones that made it a physical altercation right. The Bucks can't get sued for having words with someone. Vince makes no sense. Punk threw the 1st punch Ace steel was biting people. Russo sounds dumb af. Plus, the elite doesn't even have any say, which has been known since January 2020...
I would say everyone except for possibly Kenny was in the wrong at some point especially on that particular night. I would also say it's equally annoying when people say the Elite didn't do anything wrong either...not saying that you're saying that but plenty of folks are whether they're Elite fans or they just hate Punk. The fact of the matter is there's enough blame to go around for everyone to take their share. The only one who doesn't deserve a finger pointed in their direction IMO is Kenny
@user-rs6jb1jn9o I definitely will agree with you on that. Tony should have forced the hands of Punk and the Bucks to either work a program and handle this issue like professionals and draw money off it or be fired.

Ultimately given the troubled history of the thing, having anyone speak with authority about how to run a company is an exercise in selective facts.
@@tallyboyle9148 Hence my point.....active wrestlers shouldn't be office. WCW is an excellent example. The power plays that have historically happened in most major companies are proof of that.

The fact that executives of a company went to an employees locker room to try and beat him up completely goes over the heads of the Elite fan base 😂
Whatever their intentions were as executives they should've been advised by the legal counsel they brought with them to not go to his locker room. If they didn't listen to that advice she should've gotten security to stop them from making a horrible executive decision

@@wonipowa7542 your excellent point is exactly what wwe does with Titus and the miz and Maryse
They’re all intelligent well spoken always dressed to the nines and are always traveling doing pr for wwe . Other then Cody aew didn’t have anyone who even dresses like a pro or a star
They don’t need to have his suits but you see the elite walk into a board meeting already just based on looks you can’t take em seriously
