Judy Garland was over 20 years younger than Fred Astaire, and it shows, but still, the chemistry of this pair throughout this movie was wonderful. Astaire held his own as a singer, and Garland (you see it here) held her own as a dancer.
Me too!! We could hear her singing and playing the piano chords 4-5 houses down the street...then us 3 boys would make her play it over and we'd do it in 3-part harmony....we were 5-7 years old. She's dancing with star from star to star now. Thanks Snagglefratz.!
must hear Judy sing this song every Easter...just wonderful... plus Fred Astaire my all-time favorite entertainer... i wonder did these celebrities back then realize they would be so well loved for GENERATIONS
I can never get tired of watching this movie. Judy Garland is mesmerizing and Fred Astaire is so handsome. This is my second favorite movie in the whole world. Wizard of Oz is number one and always will be for me.
didn't think it was possible that July Garland can mede me smile...watching this on the day before Easter...even with the Coronavirus knocking on my door on my windows trying to get to me and make me sick....with a tear in my eye...i can always smile while watching her in this movie ...what a voice...what charm...she just makes me want to be with her...and sing this song with her....oh how lucky was Fred having Judy with him while making this movie....
This scene is one of the great scenes in the history of musical movies. This scene made the whole movie worth watching. It still sends chills down my back.
"Just like a man..." This is one of my favorite Judy numbers, because it allows her to be the aggressor for once (cheekily, of course), and it brings out a layer of sass and sexiness that was rarely the Garland persona. She was forever the ingenue (at least at MGM), and she's so friggin' awesome here, voicing approval of her date's tuxedo and hat, reversing the gender in the lyrics to "Easter Parade," and completely bewildering Fred Astaire (the little wink she gives at 00:33 is amazing). Smashing Charles Walters direction.
This beautiful and classic song and dance number is pure movie magic! I love this beautiful number! Beautiful Judy Garland and debonair Fred Astaire are perfection!
Remember when I was young when my Grandmother played this song on our record player on Easter Sunday. Beautiful times long gone but cherished in memory just the same.
We sang this song in the second grade. Our wonderful teacher solved the role reversal problem by having the girls sing the first two lines and the boys sing the other two in first person. I can remember that like it was yesterday... the 1964-65 school year. Took many field trips. If the timing had been right she might have gone for the teacher in space program. When I read about Christa McAuliffe I immediately thought of my second grade teacher. She encouraged and indulged some of my eccentricities which was a rare thing 56 years ago. Definitely a positive influence in my life, and a fun school year.
Happy Easter everyone. To quote Edie Beal what could be more iconic than Judy Garland! How can 22 people give this a thumbs down? Gene Kelly was supposed to star with Judy but broke his leg during rehearsals. They brought Astaire out of retirement to do the picture. A Classic.
🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 Masterpiece! An incredible ending, to an incredible film! Fred Astaire and Judy Garland (Loved that little wink!😉) are magical together and are the most talented performance artists of all time... I simply adore them...❤❤❤
Easter Parade is a 1948 American musical film starring Judy Garland and Fred Astaire, featuring music by Irving Berlin, including some of Astaire and Garland's best-known songs, such as "Easter Parade", "Steppin' Out with My Baby", and "We're a Couple of Swells". The film won the 1948 Academy Award for Best Original Music Score. The writers of the film also received the Writers Guild of America Award for Best Written American Musical. It was the most financially successful picture for both Garland and Astaire as well as the highest-grossing musical of the year. I love how when he pulls the ring out and she holds up her right hand. Cause earlier in the film she said she didn't know her left from her right. What could be more iconic than Judy Garland! Love the way people dressed then, and the music is so timeless.
Oh how i would love taking my girlfriend all dressed up wearing her best outfit adorning her Easter bonnet as we walk along 5th avenue back in those days of the horse carriages and singing this lovely song!!!! and if she was Judy Garland my dream would be perfect!!!
each time i watch this and i see Judy smiling at the end i have tried but have never been able not to smile along with her..she is just so beautiful in the movie!!!
We had an Easter bonnet competition at our school and on the last day of the Easter term we would all go into the Church and sing this. This is quintessentially my childhood
I have this movie. As a matter of fact, it’s sitting on my coffee table right now! It’s a classic! They don’t make movies like this anymore. Judy Garland & Fred Astaire....one of s kind. What a talent!
I grew up watching these movies on Turner Classics with my dad and the memories! I'm so thankful for UA-cam 'cause I can have these songs and movies forever now.
She sings so effortlessly and perfectly! The greatest singer of songs ever! Liza and Lorna always sound forced. She’s the legend! Bless her sweet soul. ❤️🌈
I hope everyone enjoyed a nice Easter Sunday today. Maybe you all did something to lift your spirits in the midst of the Corona Virus. Now i kiss you good night with this beautiful Golden Age Throwback. Judy and Fred have genuine chemistry almost as much as he is paired with Ginger! Easter Parade will always come to mind when i think of Easter itself.
i have 2 rockford fosgate 12 inch subwoofers beautiful crisp sounding clarion 6x9's and a 2000 watt amplifier and this song really comes to life on that system. I cruise up around town just cranking it. love the summer time, when i can hit the streets with my garland on blast.
I think of my parents and what great Easter celebrations they gave us 4 children..with beautiful baskets and trips to the beach. Thanks for the memories this song eludes.
I loved watching this scene--two of my all-time favorite performers, and two of the most talented people who were ever in movies. You can't beat a team like Fred Astaire and Judy Garland--except maybe, Bing Crosby and Fred Astaire. But that's another movie.😊💒
"On the Avenue, do,do,do,doooo, 5th Avenue, do,do,do,doooo....In the Easter Parade." Memories, such seemingly innocent and wondrous times. Judy Garland, Fred Astaire, our good ole' NYC.... Thanks for sharing this! I was just planning to watch the whole thing. This clip makes me feel like I did. It says it all. Happy Easter, too.
All due credit to Judy and Fred. I've always loved how the MGM Orchestra and Chorus SWELLS while "The End" appears on the screen, over the shot of the busy street. Majestic. Chills. They just don't make them like this any more. 😍
When I was little, my mother would play this song on her piano and sing the song. I used to think there really was an "Easter Parade" and begged her to take me over to NYC to see it! I still love the song though!
Judy Garland and Fred Astaire two Hollywood screen legends in one movie!!
LucyLovettLestrange Nothing like it
Judy Garland was over 20 years younger than Fred Astaire, and it shows, but still, the chemistry of this pair throughout this movie was wonderful. Astaire held his own as a singer, and Garland (you see it here) held her own as a dancer.
Easter wasn't complete without Mom singing this to me. Happy Easter in heaven Mom.
Of course the entire point of Easter means she'll sing it again to you.
Me too!! We could hear her singing and playing the piano chords 4-5 houses down the street...then us 3 boys would make her play it over and we'd do it in 3-part harmony....we were 5-7 years old. She's dancing with star from star to star now. Thanks Snagglefratz.!
Love memories. 😊
Lovely memories
must hear Judy sing this song every Easter...just wonderful... plus Fred Astaire my all-time favorite entertainer... i wonder did these celebrities back then realize they would be so well loved for GENERATIONS
marcco44 I am a slightly bigger fan of Fred than i am of Judy. Nice profile picture by the way
One of my favorite movies of all time
She was just so beautiful here I think she was 28 years old. Young and beautiful judy
linda gurrera She was 25
Lovely film . Hearing this song sung by the fabulous Judy 😊 is beautiful & emotional.
Two hollywood's greatest and brightest stars ever. Unforgettable stars.
イースターのステップを踏みたくなる💃💃💃
最初はうさぎ、うさたまっぽんっ♪
Judy had a beautiful singing voice. I love to listen to her songs
I can never get tired of watching this movie. Judy Garland is mesmerizing and Fred Astaire is so handsome. This is my second favorite movie in the whole world. Wizard of Oz is number one and always will be for me.
They were the two most talented entertainers in Hollywood’s history. But I must give an honorable mention to Ginger Rogers and Eleanor Powell.
didn't think it was possible that July Garland can mede me smile...watching this on the day before Easter...even with the Coronavirus knocking on my door on my windows trying to get to me and make me sick....with a tear in my eye...i can always smile while watching her in this movie ...what a voice...what charm...she just makes me want to be with her...and sing this song with her....oh how lucky was Fred having Judy with him while making this movie....
Irving Berlin once stated "No one has ever sung my songs better than Judy Garland." Enough said.
dennis faenza That's for sure!👩🎙️🎼🎵🎶
He actually also said that about Astaire singing his songs...
dennis faenza No way! Really?
@@manuelorozco7760 In the book Judy Garland A Portrait In Art and Anecdote by John Fricke, on page 157 is the quote by Mr Berlin!
dennis faenza Okay
Who ever said judy was not beautiful was blind to it. She looks adorable here
This movie is 68 years old & still a huge success! People still love this movie! I know I do! Amazing! :)
It's a year older than me. I love all the old songs, but I'm not amiss to a spot of black sabbath or the Rolling Stones either.
Chills. Wonderful.
My God those were the days!!!! Nothing in Hollywood today can compare!
There's no class anymore.
Well they actually acted back then. Now it's strip off your clothes and jump in bed! Or shooting and killing hundreds.
+amy owens AMEN Amy! AMEN! All I do is watch classic movies! Complete trash in today's world!
amy owens ii
amy owens I agree!! I am one of the few teens who prefer these movies to the trash they have nowdays
Judy really had a phenomenal voice. And the instant Fred eased into dance, he went from actor to magician.
I always enjoy listening to this song
Fred and Judy had wonderful chemistry in this.
Hearing the lovely, talented Judy Garland sing this so beautifully makes me wonder how on earth 85 idiots can give this a thumbs down.
I could hardly wait! For this to be over.
This is their child.
My mom and grandparents liked this movie..
I miss them all..
Xo
The magic of Irving Berlin's compositions and the beautiful orchestration made this movie and the singers great.
Good movie
Oh my....how we miss them. Wish we could see them again!
She loved the camera, the camera loved her!
A classic ,never to be forgotten !!

love that move
SAME!! LOVE HER in this movie for that exact reason, best comment ever!!
Yours is one of my favourite comments, ever. So perceptive, astute, and true.
It was Judy's idea to reverse the roles for this song. The original song was written for the Man to be singing to the Woman.
This beautiful and classic song and dance number is pure movie magic! I love this beautiful number! Beautiful Judy Garland and debonair Fred Astaire are perfection!
RIP granny, I remember every Easter you singing this song
Pure class, grace and elegance. Something that’s sorely missing in the industry today. This is what talent looks like. Happy Easter 2020!!! ✝️💟☮️
Remember when I was young when my Grandmother played this song on our record player on Easter Sunday. Beautiful times long gone but cherished in memory just the same.
Judy's walking in heaven, all dressed in white just like this now :)
This is one of if not THE all time great songs. Each year I am so moved by her singing it.
I always get sentimental over this version, Judy sings this so sweepingly. Love Judy and Fred together!
riccardobruero . Just get emotional every time I hear this song
Judy & Fred Astaire what a match Magical. Great film
Best singer and dancer ever
The greatest entertainer of them all

Garland possessed the Greatest voice God ever bestowed on a person!

What a voice this girl had so sad she died so young
lake fire yes
There have been many female singers with great voices. But Judy's voice was PERFECT.

All those fabulously dressed people.
Wouldn't it be nice to see Easter celebrated in the streets again
Now they are all slobs.
Before my grandmother had a terrible fall she was dancing with her hat singing this song. I just found this, I'm crying :')
Hcns awww
Me too....Beautiful sentimental song, done perfectly by Judy Garland.
God I love this movie. My most favorite of all time.
Oh how i would love taking my girlfriend all dressed up wearing her best outfit adorning her Easter bonnet as we walk along 5th avenue back in those days of the horse carriages and singing this lovely song!!!! and if she was Judy Garland my dream would be perfect!!!

Yep those were the days just wish I could go back in time and see them
They don't make movies like this any longer. The choreogaphy, the singing, the talented stars. 1948. One year older than me.
I know this may have been a few years ago and you may never see this but I hope you’re doing exceptionally well sir!
This is just a delightful movie! Excellent in so many ways.
Steven Torrey makes me cry
Easter Parade (1948) Judy Garland was about 26 years old, Fred Astaire about 49...
An Anthem for Easter. Pure Magic!
We had an Easter bonnet competition at our school and on the last day of the Easter term we would all go into the Church and sing this. This is quintessentially my childhood

Tom Thorpe We still do have an Easter Parade in NYC. Although the hats are a little more over-the-top now :)
artistas assim não vemos mais infelizmente 😢😢
A really great movie. Such pretty music and scenery combined with two very talented stars.
This film is guaranteed to lift spirits at the wonderful time of Easter, In my opinion the best
musical film ever, Cliff Askew
Other singers have made me smile. Judy made me cry. I love her so much.
How my father loved this movie & song.
I listen to it and sing it every Easter and remember you, Dad.
Fred and Judy - Awesome combo ! Thanks so much for the video. Brings back memories of my childhood!
