Loving the classic rock marathon. hope to hear some bob dylan, neil young, Talking Heads, Frank Zappa, Steely Dan, so many to choose from. ♪♥♫
You picked up on the basic theme of the lyrics: a relationship falling apart. The key part you're missing is the context of the band. Fleetwood Mac, just before the recording of this and the previous album, consisted of Mick Fleetwood (drums), John (bass) and Christine McVie (keys, vocals), Lindsey Buckingham (guitar, vocals), and Stevie Nicks (vocals). Of the five, four were romantically linked: John and Christine McVie were married, and Buckingham and Nicks were in a long-term non-marital relationship. Just before the recording of this album, both of those relationships collapsed. You know how they say great art often comes from a place of pain? Well, that's exactly the story of this album. This album was fueled by an unbelievable amount of drama, and it seethes with emotional pain. I mean, imagine having a nasty breakup, and then having to see that person again almost right away for days upon days in the confines of a recording studio... This is one of the songs Nicks wrote in response to her breakup with Buckingham. Buckingham wrote some songs of his own, including "Go Your Own Way". The breakup was Nicks's decision, not Buckingham, and his bitterness about that is really clear in his lyrics. You guys should really react to "Go Your Own Way" soon. It would be cool to see you guys compare these two songs, and pit the two perspectives against each other. PS: Any live video of these songs is worth watching to see how much tension there is on stage between Nicks and Buckingham. Sometimes, they look like all that's keeping them from attacking the other is the need to stay close to their microphone.
Definitely what made this album one of the best. They were writing the songs about each other and then having to perform/record them together. Great art like this cannot be contrived or planned.... it just is. ✌
Yeah "the chain" was another one offhandedly directed towards Stevie as well. Ive seen live videos of them singing that song and you can see Stevie rolling her eyes lol while performing.

Not just one either. I was born in 90 and I wish I could go back and witness them from the start. Stevie is a goddess! Watching her old live performances is like watching videos of an ex that I’ll never get to see again 😂
Stevie Nicks had the most erotic sounding voice. You can hear Christine McVie's voice. Some songs on the album are fronted by Stevie and some are fronted by Christine. I remember seeing her as Christine Perfect, singing with the band Chicken Shack in the late 60s. I also saw Fleetwood Mac when Peter Green was with them and before the girls joined.

"The Chain" is the only song where every band member wrote some part of it. I read somewhere that Stevie and Christine shared a hotel room near the studio because they didn't want to go home with their men, but felt that the band was important and the album was important. The group stayed together for several more albums after this one, even if their personal lives had fallen apart.
@@angieallen9129 Well she did sleep with him once and he followed her around like a little puppy. Totally whipped Tom even stalked Stevie while they were recording the video. Stevie had to hide in production crews rooms just so Tom would stop following her around all love drunk. She just wanted a good time but he wanted a girlfriend in Stevie. The Good Old Days of Rock & Roll, everybody having a good time until someone takes it too far or gets their feelings hurt. Peace
The line, "I know you really wanna be your own girl" really spoke to me and I heard it at a time in my life that it was important to hear. It's served me well.
One thing that elevates Fleetwood Mac's slow songs from being "just a smooth song" is the drumming. The way they throw in sweet fills in every single break. Give Mick Fleetwood some props.
irishgrl that too. (If I’m honest I’d say the guitar is even more important to me as well - just wanted to highlight the drums cause they’re more often underappreciated)
Bass player (John Mcvie - "Mac" in Fleetwood Mac)and keyboard player (Christine McVie) were together, but breaking up during this. Stevie Nicks (vocals) and Lindsay Buckingham (guitar player) were together but breaking up during this time, and Stevie starting messing around with Mick Fleetwood (Drummer - "Fleetwood" in Fleetwood Mac) on the sly. All kinds of Drama going on during the recording of this. Like a 5 way love pentagon lol. Amazing record that drips with cynicism.
Guy's, Stevie Nick's & Tom Petty did a duet. The song: "Stop dragging my heart around".. Also a classic rock song by two of the greatest vocalists ever. Rip:Tom Petty 💝
My dad says that when I was like 4 or 5, that I would ask him to play this over & over again while I spun around the living room...Then I spent the better part of my teenage years trying to emulate her writing & style...By time I hit 20, I owned at least a dozen pairs of boots & literally a hundred scarves, lol...Great memories, thanks...!
Many of the songs Stevie Nicks wrote we're about her long time boyfriend, Lindsey Buckingham, and their turbulent relationship. He is the guitarist in Fleetwood Mac. He wrote several about her too (You can go your own way). Imagine going on stage every night and singing songs written about you and your messed up relationship. That's one reason their songs have so much emotion. Can't go wrong with Fleetwood Mac. So many hits, great band. Worth your time to dig into their catalog
Stevie Nicks is magical. She is one of a kind. When I listen to this album, all I can think about is how hard it must of been for them to be in the same room as each other - which Stevei said she often had to leave and write alone. Such a unique band with a rich history.
Yes, her voice is phenomenal live BUT not much going on visually unless her just standing there and waving her arms around with her 'cape' like lace shawl or coat does it for you. I was expecting some "passion" in her performance and ive seen her twice solo and she comes alive or feels it more when performing with Fleetwood Mac. Just my 2 cents
"something in her personal life," buddy the history of their inter-band relationships is a saga like lord of the rings or something. It's some 14 hour extended cut type nonsense.
Amazing to watch a fresh genuine first reaction to a rock classic like Dreams. The difference between you guys and other reactors is you are incredibly intuitive in explaining how actually feel hearing these songs for the first time and also of course the breakdowns are always solid from you guys. Well done guys 💯
I am a rabbit hole diver, glad I found this. I know you have probably already done it, but the entire album is simply sick. Today's world, every song would be a #1. And the composition is priceless. First heard it many many many years ago, well before either of you were born, You are not alone, entire album is in the playlist, as it should be. Beauty should be celebrated at all cost.
Tristram Coffin I didn’t notice this before but they both have a similar sound, I’m not musically literate at all so idk how to describe it but the similarity is there
Isabel J.: This song, ‘Dreams,’ was from 1977. ‘Billie Jean’ is from 1982, I think. So maybe the bass in ‘Dreams’ inspired the bass riff for ‘Billie Jean.’
Stevie was in a relationship with Lindsey Buckingham, another member of Fleetwood Mac, and this is her break up song with him. NOW. It's time to listen to Lindsey's breakup song from the same album! "Go Your Own Way" by Fleetwood Mac is another colossal classic rock hit from one of the best ever.

Not necessarily. That would be to say more sells the better it is. More sales just means more commercially viable for whatever reason. Metallica black album sold way more than Master of Puppets and much more commercially well known but it ain't nowhere near as good an album as Master of Puppets.
iang1066 agree, an example to me would be Genesis invisible touch far outsold Genesis- Selling England by the pound but the latter is millions times a better album. Commercial sales doesn’t mean better in music terms.
I remember growing up and my mom playing this on her record player! I would always dance with her and help her clean the house. Times were so simple back then it seemed
George: "Sooo... Stevie Nicks is a female?" Me: *falling off my bed dying of laughter.. OMG! I love it!!! Y'all really are new to Fleetwood Mac. George, you're a Fleetwood virgin! I read somewhere that Stevie and Christine shared a hotel room near the studio because they didn't want to go home with their men, but felt that the band was important and the album was important. The group stayed together for several more albums after this one, even if their personal lives had fallen apart.
Stevie Nicks and Tom Petty - Stop Draggin My Heart Around
I adore that song. Two icons.
Stevie broke Tom's heart 💔
Yes! That’s a great song.
(im sure she made her intentions clear but dude wasn't interested in a one time thing) So he said she broke his heart. Her intention was just a good time...
Seriously. I love the single crashes too. Just perfectly played.
For me it’s Lindsey’s genius guitar work.
irishgrl that too. (If I’m honest I’d say the guitar is even more important to me as well - just wanted to highlight the drums cause they’re more often underappreciated)
@@groggyfroggyfpv6868 like a lightning strike, a lyrical crash cymbal, a rare thing.
Wait till they find out that the "player" in the song is the guitarist in the band lol
Ultinum 116 and the arranger, producer, and vocalist.
Lol. Yeah
Good one
This whole album is one big domestic dispute between the members of the band
Well put.
And they made it a total hit!
Gotta love it! 💘
Sounds like ABBA
BURY ME IN SMOKE!
Fleetwood Mac must listens; "The Chain" (killer bass line);"Go Your Own Way"; & "Big Love".
Yes!!!!!!
Guy's, Stevie Nick's & Tom Petty did a duet. The song: "Stop dragging my heart around".. Also a classic rock song by two of the greatest vocalists ever. Rip:Tom Petty 💝
Lenora Nolan ...that’s my karaoke “go-to”. Always!
@Lenora Nolan Stevie also did a lesser known duet w/ Don Henley called "Leather & Lace". Lesser known, but just as good.
Cl8on ...Yep. I’m old enough to remember when that song was brand new. Gorgeous song. Gorgeous.
An absolutely great song..!!!!!
Weird Al parodied it with Stop Dragging My Car Around.
Stevie Nicks - woman
Lindsey Buckingham - man.
And yes you guys are right, the groove IS gonna get you.
That whole album is fantastic, not a bad song on it. One of my all time favorite albums!
Rumors should be in the debate of the greatest album ever made. It may lose but it should still be apart of the conversation
It won a Grammy that year, for 'Album of the Year.' I was in H.S.
They need to just listen to the whole album from start to finish.
Agreed.
Couldn't agree more, from start to finish best album ever
One of the best albums of all time. As well as "Full Moon Fever" by Tom Petty.
ABSOLUTELY. COME ON GUYS.. GONNA LOVE IT.
A few trash songs on it
My dad says that when I was like 4 or 5, that I would ask him to play this over & over again while I spun around the living room...Then I spent the better part of my teenage years trying to emulate her writing & style...By time I hit 20, I owned at least a dozen pairs of boots & literally a hundred scarves, lol...Great memories, thanks...!
Thats the magic of Stevie Nicks!
ZeeStranjelz, I always loved the top hat she wore in concert!
She purchased that top hat in an antique shop in Buffalo New York while on tour for the white album.
I was about to post something similar. Lots of back story with this band.
So Stevie is a woman and Lindsey is a man. You couldn't make that up. :-)
Stevie Nicks is magical. She is one of a kind. When I listen to this album, all I can think about is how hard it must of been for them to be in the same room as each other - which Stevei said she often had to leave and write alone. Such a unique band with a rich history.
Money has always been a great motivator.
The entire album should be “playlist” I stood in line for hours waiting on it to hit the store shelf!
I took my chore money and bugged my mom to death to take me to the store to get it
Look up Stevie Nicks on Oprah's Master Class. GREAT story!! AND Stevie Nicks on Crossroads with Lady Antebellum.
Sorry but I always thought Songbird was the skippable track on this album.
There is something magical when Stevie, Lindsey, and Christine harmonize.
This is what happens when talented people rip each others hearts out and than record an album.
Stevie Nicks was every teenage boys untouchable dream in the 70’s
And every girls’ envy
Two words: THE CHAIN
But also Stop Draggin' My Heart Around is stellar
I don’t see that you have done the “The Chain” it is a must play for you guys!!
Cory Roberts absolutely
Omg yes! The Chain is my favourite Fleetwood Mac song!!🤗
Yes The Chain!! You have to listen to it!
Yes! The Chain.
Yes!! I echo this big time.
"Stevie Nicks is a woman!" Gunna be mind blown when you find out that Lindsey the guitarist is a man XD Love the videos guys MORE FLEETWOOD MAC!!!!
Dietrich Scotten THAT is hilarious!
I was dying when they said that and thought the same thing wait to ya read lyndsey is a guy lol
LOL
@@chrism5870 Lindsey
@@cathyskywalker77 lol sorry my sister is lyndie so I always use the y as a habbit
I love when people discover older music and have a great response. This is great education for everyone.
The whole song was directed at Stevie's "Ex" Lindsay Buckingham, who was standing right next to her on stage playing guitar for Fleetwood Mac.
Silver springs! The emotion in that song! She is a national treasure. She is this phenomenal live as well.
Shasta Orr that song is a gd magical spell. The live version from 97’ when she’s singing to Lindsey,?! goosebumps every. single. time.
Yes they gotta do silver springs
Yes, her voice is phenomenal live BUT not much going on visually unless her just standing there and waving her arms around with her 'cape' like lace shawl or coat does it for you. I was expecting some "passion" in her performance and ive seen her twice solo and she comes alive or feels it more when performing with Fleetwood Mac. Just my 2 cents
"something in her personal life," buddy the history of their inter-band relationships is a saga like lord of the rings or something. It's some 14 hour extended cut type nonsense.
lmfao
Lmaooo truth
As John Mulaney said, "Rumors, an album for and by people cheating on each other"
@@jessegifford7913 😂😂😂
What a song, would love to see you guys do more reactions to Fleetwood Mac, this is one of the Greatest Albums ever written in my opinion
Gold Dust Woman is just hypnotic.. Fleetwood Mac is among my fav mood music.
Just for that line"Take your silver spoon, dig your grave".
Try listening to Grace Porter and Warren Haynes version.
I think this is my favorite song
@@grassygnoll3345 I did a painting when I was young artist, based on that line! Lol
Amazing to watch a fresh genuine first reaction to a rock classic like Dreams. The difference between you guys and other reactors is you are incredibly intuitive in explaining how actually feel hearing these songs for the first time and also of course the breakdowns are always solid from you guys. Well done guys 💯
The best way to describe the tone of Stevie's voice is sultry. That's the word you were looking for I believe
This may be a cliche way of putting it, but I think it's true: Stevie Nicks could sing a phone book, and it would have a sultry, sexy vibe.
Ive been waiting for this for soooooooooooooooooo long Fleetwood mac is my absolute fave and i adore Stevie nicks 💜💜💜💜💜💜
One of the freshest productions and sickest bass lines ever. Straight up.
it is right there with Billie Jean for sure.
In the next video you'll be like: "So Lindsey Buckingham is a dude." ;) Guys, please react to Fleetwood Mac's "Gypsy".
I know, right! Lindsey is a guy, Stevie is a girl. it is like they were sharing their pronouns before it was cool.
Love Gypsy !!!!!!!!!!!!
The whole Album is a playlist lol
Rumours may be the best album of all time.
Yeah that album wasn't playing around.
A.G.R.E.E.D!!
Definitely need to own the whole album!
There are only a very few perfect albums and this is one of them.
They were breaking up and stayed in the band making eachother play and sing their break up songs. SAVAGE
"The Chain" by Fleetwood Mack - It is their best song.
I'm a hip hop lover but this song Dreams - Fleetwood mac is my favorite song, Stevie voice sound beautiful, i can listen to this on repeat
I LOVED this reaction to one of my favorite bands of all time! You should just go ahead and playlist the entire album. It's one of my top 5 favorites ever...not a bad song on it. Great job guys, as always.
Totally agree
You have to check out the Song "The Chain" from Fleetwood Mac
I *strongly* second this!
Fleetwood Mac- The Chain
Fleetwood Mac - landslide
Ps. Bone Thugs sampled “The Chain” for their track “break the chain”. Two absolute classic tracks from Fleetwood mac
Fleetwood Mac is a band with three lead singers that complement one another's voices. Most times what you hear is three voices - Stevie, Christine and Lindsay.
I have heard Mic Fleetwood sing but it was very rare song.
Listen to "Why". Their three part harmony is gor.geous
And a lead guitarist that it takes 2-3 guys to replace.
Yes that is The white witch herself singing! She has an amzaing sound of her own. Thanks for doing this!💜
"Go your own way" definitely a must play
The Chain
Stop dragging my heart around
Yes!!
Stop draggin was Stevie with Tom Petty.......A great song!!
The word you are looking for when describing this band as a old band sounding new ,
Its called timeless.
Timeless music. It was awesome back then and it still is now
I’ve been waiting for you guys to react to Fleetwood Mac for so long ! They’re my favorite band please do more of their songs 😍
The Chain
Rhiannon
Gypsy
Seven Wonders
Gold Dust Woman
Go Your Own Way
Landslide
They are all worth listening to 😊
Peter Dewet
Only the live version though
And the beginning reaction and asking is stevie is a girl is LITERALLY why I will make sure my child KNOWS music! Classic albums like this should be known. PERIODT
I was so glad that they didn't edit this out. How many others have said something similar.
P E R I O D T
In deed.
Stevie Wonder, Stevie Ray Vaughn, etc.
I won't hold it against them, especially if they're not familiar with the band and who's who in the lineup.
;)
Yessss. I do the same. I sing to my step boys and daughter pink floyd all the time and when I play the song my 4 year old daughter snuggles me and says daddy you sing us this song to sleep. Makes my heart soar
Now do some of their other songs. i recommend "Rhiannon"
neko mata Or The Chain
Little lies
Love the song and has a similar feel to dreams.
OMG YES!
neko mata the live version on Midnight Special is killer, Stevie pours all she has out on that stage.
I’m so happy you guys are brining music to the masses and showing your clear appreciation of it.
That’s Stevie singing. The BEST female rock and roll vocalist EVER!
Jill W While she is one of the best I would put Ann Wilson over her.
Periodt
She is the Queen goddess of all goddesses.
ann wilson tops her, imo...
Nagato don’t know why people keep saying this. Just not true
Favorite band of all time. 3 different lead singers makes it sound like 3 different bands. HAVE TO DO "THE CHAIN"!
Indeed. There is no other band like them.
I would say the only band that could be their equal is The Eagles.
This video literally makes me happy. My favorite Fleetwood Mac song
The harmony, lyrics and weepy guitar slay my soul. Dreams is my favorite song of all time... you've got to listen to Rumours ... daily.
It is dope.🌬🔮⚡
And yes this is my first choice!
There’s a reason why Rumours has sold so many units. Every song is amazing.
Please, please, do "The Chain" and "Rhiannon" (on of the two live performances from 1976)!
Just seeing this video but the entire album is actually insane. Probably one of the greatest albums of all time. Listen to the entire album.
The layered vocals you hear could be Christine McVie in the background
No it's Stevie Nicks doing double layer vocals.
use to fall asleep to this album every night when I was a teenager.
It sounds like a remake because they were so far ahead of the times musically. Also, cocaine.
😄
Your reactions are so beautiful! No computers or anything. Harmony and great musicianship !
Thanks for bringing a big cheesy grin on my face lads. Classic.
Haunting vocals of the legendary Stevie Nicks
I love how they looked all bored and then that groove just snuck up on them...
George: "Sooo... Stevie Nicks is a female?"
Me: *falling off my bed dying of laughter..
OMG! I love it!!! Y'all really are new to Fleetwood Mac. George, you're a Fleetwood virgin! (and my crush on George just increased tenfold) Hehehe... But seriously, *every* song on this album is awesome. You really can't go wrong... And one of the best albums for road trips!
The only band where Steve and Chris are girls and Lindsey is a boy lol
She actually wrote this song sitting in Sly stones bed in his studio!
So glad u r bringing an education to the younger people of great music. Classic rock, sultans of swing etc. So much greatness n history. Hope that the younger generation can pick up the gauntlet n take note of classic songs n bring some new great music
such a great reaction and analysis. i've been listening to this song since i was a kid and i still get the same feeling every time. the same feeling you guys had. it's euphoric, ethereal, dreamlike. the groove just takes you away, and they lyrics are beautiful. made me so happy watching you guys react to it. it's in my top 5 songs of all time.
The term you're looking for to describe the dreamy, flying feel of this song is ETHEREAL.
