This was a very interesting video! It's easy to follow and presents a pretty interesting idea. I find it really well put together, too, and the shots look absolutely amazing! I'm subscribing ^^
@@RitualEXE Honestly, I don't think it did! You stated valid points and gave a pretty good explanation as to why, at least to you, referring to _artists_ as _content creators_ and to _art_ as _content_ weighs down the meanings of the original terms and I couldn't agree more. Anything that falls under the category of 'art' should be referred to as such and not just weighed down into a piece of 'content' of 'entertainment' rather than what it actually is: A work of *_art_* that someone put their skills, time and effort into.
Okay, but to have an actual discussion though, I feel like this topic relates tangentially to another video essay I watched by the channel "Crimes New Roman." The video is titled " 'Modern Video Games Suck' ." It critiques the industry of para-contextual content. Things that talk about things, instead of BEING something artistic on it's own merits. I feel like a lot of what people want from UA-cam is time killers. Ways to pass through the day without being alone with our own thoughts. We want 'content',and we want to be fed that 'content' in order to fill holes in and/or create distractions for ourselves. To appreciate art, we as a culture need to be more artful, but we'd rather entertain ourselves to death instead of challenge ourselves with something meaningful.
I am going to check out that video! I think maybe to add something potentially interesting… I always feel particularly pensive after uploading a video. The thing I find myself pondering currently is moderation. Over the past year or so I have been attempting to spend less time connected; not staring at my phone as much-learning to be bored again. I haven’t done anywhere close to perfect, but I have improved. I don’t think that a lot of these things need to stop… but I think we would all benefit from learning to slow down. I find that most Western cultures are bad at moderation and even worse at nuance. “I struggle to control myself with this *thing* and therefore it should be destroyed.” Kill some time, drown out some thoughts, fill some holes, entertain yourself. These things are okay in controlled amounts. But don’t kill all your time, drown out every thought, fill every hole, or entertain yourself to death. The primary difference between medication and poison is the dose.
this video actually helped me with imagining what and how I wanna do video essays: it feels so casual yet filled with ideas that can branch out to so much ideas. great job man!
A video so nice I watched it twice. Very happy to be provided the opportunity to hear my favorite internet renaissance fam talk about something that often crosses my mind. I’ve got so much love for your channel, my friend.
I want you to know that you SPECIFICALLY are a huge reason I’m still making stuff. Your support has meant a ton over the years and you make me wanna try harder and make better stuff.
I do like being able to turn off my brain sometimes to watch someone do something fun, which i would consider "content". Brainrot, on the other hand, doomscrolling, etc, not so much. Thanks for making me pregnant ❤
I think we run into a similar issue with specific genres in gaming, Metroidvanias and Rouge-likes and lites. We have gotten so use to the term of them that people are not really interested in taking a step back and appreciating games of a specific style without there being an underlying comparison to its predecessors. We see content creator as a catch all for people who make internet content without realizing that it being a catch all prevents it from becoming out spoken of its kind. I have seen many different video essay creators, gaming creators, music creation content, but we never state it as that. It all just becomes content all side scrolling games that have a map and dungeon crawling vibe are metroidvanias, all games where you reset and get upgrades after a run are roguelites. We need to step away from generics and see everything as more then what it's related too. I would argue this video is art itself.
I’m gonna disagree a little bit here, but I understand your point. Boxes can create unfair comparison and judgement, but genre is a useful classification for saying “if you like this thing you might also like this thing.” Now, do genre names sometimes fail to effectively represent the things to which they are applied? Absolutely. I guess I should say I’m pro-classification, anti-comparison?
@RitualEXE Of course! You definitely deserve more subs and views so if nothing else I'm gonna be cranking your view count so more people see your work!l

Well it is very nice to read it summarized so succinctly! Thank you so much.
