I rode across Australia twice on an old 250cc single cylinder single carby bike, and everyone said I would die doing it. I'd be flattened by a truck or hit a roo and that was it, but we went anyway and had an Adventure. Everything he said was true, there were moments when you hate it but you just keep on keeping on because what other choice do you have, and in the end you love it. The feeling at the end is also true, and its painful. You just spent all this time alone, having this amazing adventure, and you get home and life just has to go on and its awful, you just want to get on the bike and go back to a simpler place where you feel like the main chracter of your own story. You meet so many amazing people and every day is so special because you are alive, and you get home and its so mediocre and awful and you fall back into the routine of day to day life and you're just another cog in the machine. It truly is an awful feeling. He should be so proud of this journey he has undertaken, few have the courage to taste such freedom.
I've just watched this sat at home on lockdown feeling a bit flat. I found it truly inspirational. Made me feel a lot better, your absolutely right your average Joe just wants to get on with life. It's not about material possessions or money. The world can be a beautiful place we just don't appreciate it enough were too busy half the time messing it up. Made me want to get my bike out and do a massive expedition. Great work love to see more.
Loved your book Nathan and had no idea there was a film out there, until now. Real grass roots stuff and all the better for it. It takes a big man to open up about those darkest moments and share them with thousands of strangers. In a world of 'designer adventure tours' you stand out from the rest and I take my hat off to you!
I backpacked around the world for almost 4 years in the early to mid 90's and this is such an inspirational journey. Looking back and now being a biker myself I wished I had made some of my trips via a motorcycle. And yes it's completely true what you said about the government's injecting fear into the hearts of their own people. We are all brothers and sisters of this beautiful planet. Keep riding brother........
One of the best adv moto videos I’ve seen. It totally speaks to the idea that the adventure isn’t in the bike, the route, or the glory. Its in the mind of the rider.
I love the fact that the bike was a simple little bike and it worked , like your enthusiasm and your style, well done 👍 as the song says you did it your way . Respect and admire you .
Well done mate! This video deserves more views! Youve proven that one doesnt need an expensive bike to start an adventure. THE BEST BIKE IN THE WORLD IS THE BIKE THAT YOU USE.
"The world is much brighter than we've been led to believe" is, without a doubt, the most accurate statement ever made. There is so much that is good, and a righteous adventure is chief among the good things available to all. Well done!!! The other universally accurate statement he makes "I need more power"

That’s made my night. I rode through the Himalayas, too. I nearly died in a bike accident there but came out without a scratch. Those journeys do have a lasting impression. Hats off.
How did I miss this video? Amazing trip and lots of true words. I've gone through similar experiences and totally understand it all, the excitement, the enjoyment and the depression. Ewan McGregor said it really well in Long Way Round when he said that the wonderful thing about travel is that you're just in the moment: You don't think about bills, insurances, jobs. All you worry about is potholes and when you get to eat dinner. (I know it's not an exact quote). Iit's so human being in the moment. The struggle about coming back into a normal living is one that not many talk about, but I think almost all travellers experience. Almost the saddest stories are those of relationships that have survived this hardship ,but very often fall apart after the trips. Travel is such a wonderful thing, one that even with the possible low after, is one that everyone should experience. It's a beautiful world.
I truly agree on your viewpoint.. and to tell why you & I missed this one because not many people cares about this kind off stuff. People generally thinks them about stupid crazy types and hence views are less and youtube algorithm works that way

Epic, heroic, courageous, original you are. The reason people were so kind and no one tried to harm you is a testament to the good and genuine soul you are, and that is something instinctively recognized by people from all cultures. You flew with the protection of angels.
BTW, with UA-cam full of touring videos where huge amounts of money is spent on bikes and gear and gadgets and what not, it’s so refreshing & relatable to all us broke bikers who just make do with what we have, which is often not a lot. Keeping it real. Keeping it simple. Love it.
Glad I saw this after reading your book 2 yrs ago. Well done buddy, I was amazed after reading your memoirs. Your second journey was your ultimate healing process that was very cathartic and your a better grounded now and obviously an inspiration to many. Cheers mate.
I've been meaning to watch this for ages, Ive watched most of your other stuff, it just got put on my watch list, I didn't realise it would be so short... however what you put into this film.... lost for words... laughed, cried and was amazed at what you've achieved, all on a low powered over loaded postie bike, little gear, no planning, and no budget... totally get the lack of film, sometime you just gotta do stuff.... just off to look for the book. Well done dude.
You brilliant man , this vlog was just smashing, enjoyed every minute of it, people are very kind and these are the people that you don’t know and they help you on your trip, I have done a few sketchy things on my trips of thousands of miles and I have got stuck and people help ,in the deserts, mountains, arid lands and once even the police
Really enjoyed it. And identified with it. I rode Singapore to London in 1973. It was the best couple of years ever. I’ve always loved the travelling life and motorcycle is the only way to go for me.
This made me cry. First time I hear about you, so thanks UA-cam. Been feeling a bit down lately since I am not sure when I’ll be able to travel again and feel that freedom again. One of my lifelong goals is to hit the road for a whole year, and this is one of those videos that keep reminding me that it is indeed possible. I loved the quality of the videos, felt way more real than all of those super edited 4K production travel videos that are trending now. Wish you the best!

Hat off to you Sir.. For your bravery (or blind stupidity ha ha) in undertaking a trip like that with next-to-no prep' and for baring your soul as you did.. I've travelled a lot (but always very well prepared!) and have found myself contemplating the Prudoe-TDF trip a few times but then it occurred to me that I might just be trying to distract myself from my, then present, reality - that being of unhappiness and often depression.. I wonder how many undertake trips like this thinking it's what we need, that it will fix us when all we're doing is running away from the problem rather than face it.. and sometimes the answer to that problem is simply, as you point out, to learn to be grateful for what we have.. or, in some cases, to allow ourselves the time and attention to REALLY grieve the loss of whatever it was that is making us unhappy, not brush it under the carpet and pretend we're ok.. Like you I rejected medication but found counseling useful.. Often depression is simply caused by stories you tell yourself - counseling can help you see that, nearly always, those stories are just that - fictions.. I still hope to do that ride some day but for the right reason - to get somewhere rather than get away from 'myself'.. As they say "Wherever you go, there you are"..
I've done stuff like that, but didn't have a camera to document my adventures. I did however have a Honda Trail 90 and drove it so much I wore it out, had it rebuilt and rode it again until it wore out again, then traded it for a brand new one and rode it until it was wore out. I went everywhere on my trail 90, all over the US Pacific Northwest and western Canada. I figured on that first bike I'd logged almost 400,000 miles, and on the 2nd bike another 250,000. They're not fast, but extremely durable and easy to work on when needed.
@@RJjClips yup but that particular ktm was loaded to the brim with 80 litres additional fuel tank, bags and 2 up..like you said 200 is good enough.. actually on ride like this the lighter the bike the better especially off road.. don't you think so?

What an amazing story! More people need to realize that there's more to life than money and nice things.
Hillary Clinton and Henry Kissinger almost have enough money to feel this way. I don't think they are going to make it.
Great trip....I went across America on a 1972 Honda cb450 in 1974. Great memories....thanks
Brilliant video Nathan, I bought your book and loved it, I could not put it down until I got to the end. I have a 1974 Honda CB 125cc and love it, I have owned it for 45 years I’m now 73 years old. Motorcycles keep you young and fit. I also own CBF 500 cc and 1973 Triumph Bonneville T 120R. Safe travels. 👍🇬🇧
It is so good to know that you still have the CB 125 : ) 45 years!! Wow! I hope you are still getting the chance to ride your bikes. Cheers!
johnybrokeit Hi Johnny, yes was getting out twice a week on my bikes until the lockdown, I can’t wait for it to be over. It rained most of winter, and we have had 5 weeks lovely weather in lockdown, Dodd law.
Gorden Gecko Good point Gordon here in UK it’s a £60 fine if police stop you, we can only go out to buy food , medicines and exercise once a day. Maybe I could go long way to shop to buy food as long as I buy some may get away with it. Ride safe and good luck. 👍🇬🇧
After the sudden end of a relationship a few years ago, I packed an overnight bag and set off on my 650. I came home 8 days later... Calmer, happier and still recall just how good it felt to just ride...
Top work Matt.
Have to say after 15 years plus of watching uploads on youtube land there was something so honest and pure about your upload that really really struck a chord with me more than can be reasonably expected from it but it's there non the less, thanks a million for sharing this and not making it about money or me me me subscribe blah blah blah ...brilliant my friend brilliant .
Man this made me feel good. Very inspiring.
what an amazing young man, i reckon he has a lot more to offer the world then he realizes
Can't like this enough! Great work, great story!
Thanks for putting this together, truly inspirational.
Such a brilliant story. Thank you so much for sharing your journey and lessons with the world. Truly inspiring.
I love the fact that the bike was a simple little bike and it worked , like your enthusiasm and your style, well done 👍 as the song says you did it your way . Respect and admire you .
Just WOW, this just inpires me. I just have no words. Great film!
You're the best thing I've seen on UA-cam in years, thank you you're all inspiring.
I'm looking for the keys for my bike you good man, see ya out there...
I have to add more. The part about meeting people along the way no matter race culture etc. There's good in all of us. We just have struggle sometimes to find it. Bought me to tears (61years old ) loved it. Thank you.
Great Video Nathan! Very well put together, and an inspiring story. And learning to enjoy what you have is the greatest lesson of all!
What a guy, Very powerful video. One man and his old honda love it
It just boils down that you can travel on a small displacement no need to buy a very expensive bike
Travel light, travel small ,no need to carry a big bag of ego .
If you drop a bike like this you can pick it up again unaided. Try that with a BMW Boxer Twin. Well that's true for the majority of us anyway.
@@r1273m And with a loaded motorbike. Someone told me the Japanese Motorbike Test includes lifting a bike laying on it's side back up to the upright position .If you cannot left the bike you cannot ride it?
@Gorden Gecko What is Right? There is no right. Each to his own . EGO. Why prove you are bigger ,richer ,better, faster. Life is too short . Be ZEN. All that matters is the journey, and how you interact with the world. as long as the bike runs . And you are enjoying your self. Who cares if it is a 50cc or 1600cc. It is all the same in the bush. "If a tree falls in a forest and no one is around to hear it, does it make a sound?"
@@kingharryannis So, tell us why does Nathan ride a 1200 GS, now? Because of his EGO? He could have kept riding his old bike or get another one.
Thank you thank you!.....I get depressed when I’m not riding, and I agree, the world is a great place if you go out and leave your comfort zone, cheers from Chile!
Heroes are not born by birth , they became !! Thank you for sharing your inspiring true story Brit ,it was really motivating ,keep going forward ,
Love from India.
Thanks for the kind words GTB. Hope India is keeping well at the mintute.
Very pleased to have met Nathan last year. A nice, quiet, unassuming bloke who's done some really quite amazing things.
Ok ... i had to rewind and watch it again ... bloody inspiring. I tip my hat. Thank you.
Watching Itchy boots brought me here, Wow truly inspiring
Your choice of words at times is beautiful, brought a tear to my eye. More adventures please your a likeable kind looking person.
The dislikes must be from raiders with gs1200 who have this motorcycle to doing walks every second Sunday round arround their houses.
Yeah you cant please everyone, which is cool.
Hahahaha oi oiiiii
Well know that's a comment 😂😂
🤣🤣🤣🤣
C90adventures hacks them off on the Dalton Highway too!
Not really, they come from Ewan McFkin Gregor, 10 x the cc's, 10/ the balls.
this man have deserved more fame and respect than all our Stars in Hollywood. all my love and thanks for sharing. greets from Germany
This was awesome to watch! I read the book a few years back and it is still one of my favourite motorcycling books.
Great message towards the end. There is so much good in the world, lets promote that instead of the negativity.
Completely concur buddy.
Bikes & Drones Patience friend.. 🙂👌
I have read it too.
What is the title of the book. Tq
Thanks Nathan. Do you know, you are the only you tuber that I actually search for. I love your lack of ego, your down to earrth manner and your humane way of presenting. Thank you very much.
The best thing on UA-cam!
Loss for words...the only thing I can say is...this video of yours will inspire countless others to take that jump. That jump which most of us postpone for ever....Thanks for sharing.
Your an inspiration. I love the fact you just got up and went. Some encouraging thoughtful words particularly in this current climate. Stay safe.
What a inspiring beautiful story, I am really glad you covered the "what now?" stage of a journey, where life seems to lack meaning once you get back. I am really glad you found your peace and hope that everyone (including myself) who is searching for same thing finds it.
16 years a soldier and feel exactly the same.. a top effort crackin on!
Royal.
Thanks Jerry!
What an emotional and inspiring movie. A truly remarkable story. I hope you are keeping well and I hope that every time I chase a material thing this is not important I think of your words and appreciate everything I have. God bless you mate. Jason.
That’s made my night. I rode through the Himalayas, too. I nearly died in a bike accident there but came out without a scratch. Those journeys do have a lasting impression. Hats off.
Brilliant, one of the best, most thought provoking videos I've ever seen on UA-cam.
People generally thinks them about stupid crazy types and hence views are less and youtube algorithm works that way
Beautiful movie. Thank you for last words. It's about appreciation for what we already have. Love and peace :)
One of the most inspiring video's I have ever seen! My girlfriend and I are on the eve of doing a trip throughout india and south-east asia aswell and love the vibe of the vid!
Epic, heroic, courageous, original you are. The reason people were so kind and no one tried to harm you is a testament to the good and genuine soul you are, and that is something instinctively recognized by people from all cultures. You flew with the protection of angels.
Many thanks Roger. Kind words
This is unreal. Huge huge respect. Beautifully put together.
Im with John Williams.... Lovey words... Thank you for making the video! Stay safe and be happy.
BTW, with UA-cam full of touring videos where huge amounts of money is spent on bikes and gear and gadgets and what not, it’s so refreshing & relatable to all us broke bikers who just make do with what we have, which is often not a lot. Keeping it real. Keeping it simple. Love it.
Very well said I like that. I am in this category, but I do it on a bergman suzuki four hundred
Truly inspirational film! Pleasure to spend time with you. Thanks, sure we will meet again.
Inspiring and lovely. Strong message. And then people ask us why we ride... I will show this movie next time anyone asks...
Ride on!
Just discovered this .. one word .. well unfortunately I can't think of just one .. but probably the greatest piece of film i have ever seen ...
Very kind of you David. The real genius is Fraser who took my bits of scrappy footage and made something of it!
I found a guy from south korea in a gas station in europe. He was riding a honda cub. Payed for his gas.
Was it this guy?
No, he had dreads, glasses and a white honda
I bicycled around the baltic sea.
7000km in 10 weeks. :))
When I feel down I come back to this video. One of my favourites on UA-cam. And I watch lots of videos
Respect. I also travelled alone , and have never felt so safe. Keep smiling my friend.🙏
Glad I saw this after reading your book 2 yrs ago. Well done buddy, I was amazed after reading your memoirs. Your second journey was your ultimate healing process that was very cathartic and your a better grounded now and obviously an inspiration to many. Cheers mate.
A HELLUVA story. Welldone Nathan
Wonderful story... loved Dorothy she's a good girl.
Mate this should have been a tv series. You are incredible, well done
I love you brother!👍🇬🇪🇷🇺 World needs more people like you!🙏🏼
The journey is not with a motorcycle, but with balls..
😂
Big balls ! , I would say , good on him
or labias! equality.
And the balls of that legendary Honda Hunter....small bike with humongous Balls to ride that far....with all those road conditions ...wow!!
Really enjoyed it. And identified with it. I rode Singapore to London in 1973. It was the best couple of years ever. I’ve always loved the travelling life and motorcycle is the only way to go for me.
Dude . how did you manage to ride on such a small bike for such a long time with a pair of bollocks that big ?. total respect !! PMA all the way !!
Brilliant. Just brilliant.
Thank you for taking the time to post this.
I'm not sure why, but I only found this now. 5 yrs after it was made..? I followed the ride report and he's a pretty remarkable guy. Much respsect.
I bought Nathan's book last month and loved it. This video was the perfect follow up. Great great video. The story. The editing. The music. Top job!
Congratulations, man. So amazing, so amazing.
From Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Great video mate i have ridding around australia an finshed my trip i to got depressed .I realised i needed to keep riding.
Met Nathan & Dorothy before, really nice guy who inspired me to finally get my finger out and ride across Europe. Such a good story, you feel as though you’ve ridden every mile with him by the time you’ve finished his books.👍🏼
Half way through I jumped on my motorbike, rode around the old city of Constantinople. I've been traveling the world for the last 2.5 years. I'm from los angeles
@Gorden Gecko mondial revival 50 cc lol tops out at 70kph
Right on brother! Stay safe, have fun!
This is really inspiring. You saw and did things people can only dream of. Thank you.
Beautiful man! Thanks for sharing! 👍🙏✊
Mind blown
I've done stuff like that, but didn't have a camera to document my adventures. I did however have a Honda Trail 90 and drove it so much I wore it out, had it rebuilt and rode it again until it wore out again, then traded it for a brand new one and rode it until it was wore out. I went everywhere on my trail 90, all over the US Pacific Northwest and western Canada. I figured on that first bike I'd logged almost 400,000 miles, and on the 2nd bike another 250,000. They're not fast, but extremely durable and easy to work on when needed.
The bigger the bike and boat, the more boring their stories is.
Agreed..the largest bike I've seen that came through my hometown was a KTM 990 adventure. According to them, you don't need anything bigger
@@ceriabestsb3023 You dont even need 990 .. even a 200 would do ! That's the thing
@@RJjClips yup but that particular ktm was loaded to the brim with 80 litres additional fuel tank, bags and 2 up..like you said 200 is good enough.. actually on ride like this the lighter the bike the better especially off road.. don't you think so?
CERIABEST SB exactly .. be light !
@@RJjClips i think the tv program Long Way Down has created an impression that bigger is better.Try riding a GS 1200 solo fully loaded.. dropped it and pray there's someone around..
What a great video. And what a fantastic adventure. Thanks for show it to us.
"one large peperroni pizza please"
"Good choice sir! one large pepperoni pizza. Would you like to add soda?"
"soda would be okay"
"And one soda, can we have your address sir?"
"The Himalayas"
"Aye aye sir, our driver will deliver you pizza nice and warm sir, thank you for ordering"
Thank you for sharing Nathan's story and his message about not living in fear of the unknown. Very powerful and I hope that he finding peace in his life now.
