I just came back from a 23 day, 6854 km tour around most of Thailand. It was great ! On my Honda Wave 100 cc, which is more than 18 years old and has 377,000km
Thats an epic trip. Looks like you had a tonne of fun. Unfortunately I never rode long distance while I lived in Thailand. But I would love to do something a bit longer than a week or so riding. Thanks for watching!
I'm retired, aged 70 , bored and living a miserable existence here in the UK. I have just booked a ticket to KL for January 2024. I will be buying a Modenas Elegan 250 for around 5,000 GBP brand spanking new. As an amputee this type of scooter suits my riding style. I will be travelling solo from Melaka, Malaysia to northern Thailand and back again but by a different route. The good thing is you ride on the same side of the road as here in the UK. People close to me say I'm too old to do this type of adventure and I could crash or someone might crash into me. At the end of the day, life is for living not rotting away twiddling one's thumbs waiting for the grim reaper.
One of the best comments I've read in a long time. Love your work mate. I'll be back in Malaysia and Southern Thailand to ride next February/March. It's a great place to start a long bike journey. You're never too old! Have an amazing trip.
Great video, I did plan for a solo on my 125 Honda in March 2020 unfortunately the Malaysian Thai boarder close due to the pandemic. Planning another go this March 2021, but I doubt they allow the travel. Misses riding in Thailand.

Super easy! But the bike needs to be in your name. Stop at an insurance sales place on the Malaysian side of the border. Hand them all your bike documents, they create the border paperwork for you. Ride through, park bike, get off and hand over passport and paperwork, job done.

Heck! Thats insane. Hope you're doing OK these days. Mind sharing what happened? I have come off my Wave, but only minor injuries. Love the thing though!
@@SmallBikeStuff sure thing, it was a month after the Tsunami, was suppose to go back to Phi Phi to see friends on the island but had a hang over so stayed on Samui and missed earlier ferry on Boxing Day, we all know what happened next, a month later coming back from a BBQ? All I remember is the BBQ, next thing I know I was arguing with “God” about not wanting to return to my broken body to complete my mission, my promise as it said to me, so as time does not exist there, I put my feet up for a million or so years until it said and pointed at me me “THERE IS SOMETHING YOU NEED TO DO!” 👉 spirit was pushed down back into earth back into eye retina, eyes opens pulling ICU breathing pipes out and needles out of arms, trying too think it’s a bad dream so run out the door and collapsing on floor due to legs not working…. On 15 years of research and interviews from PhDs in London University NDE VS DMT, it was a full blown NDE. I am blessed now, fully able bodied now with a wife and 2 children. Yes absolutely. I would every time. Full face helmets that can flip open are preferable. Thats what we used on the second trip which I see you've also watched. Being able to open the helmet to stop and chat but then have the safety at higher speeds of full face was awesome.
I suggest you to try the new gen of small bike next time.. Maybe 135LC.. Y15zr or RS150 would be better coz they are 150cc then you can make comparison between the OG's 100cc.
u guys so cool i wanna do this :> question on formalities: did u have to register the bikes in Thailand as well or could you just drive with the Malaysian registered ones in Thailand? And did you take Malaysian/Thai motor insurance?
Sorry for the late reply! We didn't register the bikes in Thailand. Just Malaysia. Malaysian insurance was compulsory at the point of registration. Thai Insurance was compulsory also, we got it just before the border.
I do ride solo ling distance ride, 600-800 km / day. Prefer small bike coz it goes twice further than big bike and 4 times cheaper maintenance. Yamaha Fz150i is the best choice for long ride as it goes 500 km per full tank and the headlights are much more brighter !
7:56 You guys literally pass by my house behind the Shell petrol station on your right. If only I knew you then, I would've followed you guys all the way to Bangkok. Let's ride together next time ....🤘
Mugilan Rajamohan wow! That’s amazing. We wish we knew you were there too. Please follow our Facebook page, the link is in the video description. I will be going again next year.
This looks like the most fun 3 friends could have. I want to do something like that, to ride and see the country on a bike, big or small.I know this video is 4 years old, but $1000 for those is a STEAL. I love the music, too ! It seems like everywhere you look there is a scooter shop.
Man during your travel I was a student in the university next to the Sadao Border in Bukit Kayu Hitam of which I assume you guys pass through before getting into Thailand from Malaysia. Man only if i’ve know you guys earlier perhaps i can show you guys a few places. Anyway nice experience you got there.
Bora Khuon we chose bikes worth about $1000 NZD. You can get cheaper or more expensive also. If you finish your journey in Malaysia it’s easy to sell them again.
The amount of money spent fixing and upgrading those bikes you might as well buy brand new, it also saves you time and hassle, but I understand why you bought 2nd hands bikes, its fun and fixing it is part of the adventure and charm, anyway i love these kind of riding, slow and in a small bikes.
We didn't really spend much fixing them. Just new wheels and thats about it. 2 oil changes on the trip. The main reason we bought these models was because the engines would bolt into bikes we had back home. They got disassembled at the end of the trip and most parts were sent home. Spent $1000 all up on the bikes. Was more than double for brand new.
They didn't really. We had a few issues on the first day and then they were fine for the rest of the trip, aside from a single puncture on Day 3. But, as for why? Because we should have checked them over thoroughly before hand and not relied on the local shops. I actually cover this in the Kuala Lumpur video: ua-cam.com/video/TiCDPOmUh3c/v-deo.html
@@SmallBikeStuff ok, that's not too bad then. How many km or miles have you guys covered approximately across this entire trip? The views you caught were amazing and I loved the video!
@@SmallBikeStuff wow! This was one great adventure! I want to see more of these adventures. I'd love to have one myself, actually. London to Taiwan, that would be incredible! I subscribed, I want to know when your next adventure comes!
Thanks for subscribing. It means a lot. I definitely want another adventure also. I plan on taking some more people with me next time too! Keep an eye out.
Yeah, ive got tmx alpha 125cc generation 2 , classic style, which is common in the Philippines use in Tricycle as well in single, and im satisfied for long ride.
That red Yamaha is way more stronger than the honda wave 100. I have that Yamaha (2006 Jupiter 110cc- Still running today 2023) in Vietnam and used to race in a hiway against the honda wave 100. It's fast to up to 115km/h and very Stable in that max Speed. The SemiAuto clutch of it is Also Very Smooth. I know this thing bcause I have both of these bikes.

I do ride solo ling distance ride, 600-800 km / day. Prefer small bike coz it goes twice further than big bike and 4 times cheaper maintenance.
Yamaha Fz150i is the best choice for long ride as it goes 500 km per full tank and the headlights are much more brighter !
Next time I would love a bit more power. 100cc is a bit to slow. Thanks for watching!
Nice background song selection..
I'm glad you like it! I can't wait to come back.
How do you make the sparks? is it the center stand?
Yeah it’s just the centre stand being pushed down to touch the road.

This looks like the most fun 3 friends could have. I want to do something like that, to ride and see the country on a bike, big or small.I know this video is 4 years old, but $1000 for those is a STEAL. I love the music, too ! It seems like everywhere you look there is a scooter shop.
Thanks so much for watching. This was filmed in 2019 and we just did the trip again in 2024 with more people - videos will be released soon.

Man only if i’ve know you guys earlier perhaps i can show you guys a few places. Anyway nice experience you got there.
That would have been amazing. I'm wanting to go overland from KL to Thailand again. Maybe later this year even!

How much for a bike? Did you sell it after the trip ended?
Bora Khuon we chose bikes worth about $1000 NZD. You can get cheaper or more expensive also. If you finish your journey in Malaysia it’s easy to sell them again.
@@SmallBikeStuff Thanks for the info
What did u do with the bikes afterwards?
Dismantled and took the parts to New Zealand.
Awesome ride 👍

guys just want to know...after you reach Bangkok you ride motorbike back to KL again or just sell the bike to some shop?
We took the bikes apart and sent the engines and swingarms and wheels home. The rest went to locals in Bangkok.

Nice bro.. U all should pick Honda ex5.. the best long distance

How come they broke down so often?
They didn't really. We had a few issues on the first day and then they were fine for the rest of the trip, aside from a single puncture on Day 3. But, as for why? Because we should have checked them over thoroughly before hand and not relied on the local shops. I actually cover this in the Kuala Lumpur video: ua-cam.com/video/TiCDPOmUh3c/v-deo.html
@@SmallBikeStuff ok, that's not too bad then. How many km or miles have you guys covered approximately across this entire trip? The views you caught were amazing and I loved the video!
2,500km from start to finish. It was a great trip! I need to redo this journey and film it better. It’s such a great route.
Keep an eye out.
so what happen to your bikes? you sell them or what?
Disassemble and take some parts home, sell other parts.
do you guys think buying a bike is cheaper than renting a bike?
It's about the same for us. But to take it across the border, buying is much easier.

The classic malay pop song! Stole all malaysian heart who watch this
I love this music so much! I listen often.
Better Honda wave because it economic fuel ,even though using carburetor but if you use Honda dash wave fuel injection 125cc much better
Yes! I now ride Wave 125.
Youve bought semi automatic honda wave thats cool, but i guess you better buy a motor with clutch for long ride.
SPANISH MANILA but we finished the ride with no issues!

The Yamaha was definitely faster than us. We couldn't catch up at times.
