For a fellow history buff that trip would have been a dream come true, to sleep in a wooden car! It was gorgeous. It's unfortunate that the window couldn't close for you. Too bad you didn't bring a winter sleeping bag. Well worth the money. Thank you for taking us with you.

Those Southern Aurora and Overland carriages are beautiful and are probably the closest you can get to riding on the Indian Pacific like my mum did 40 years ago.

In 1973 I travelled with school on a round victoria train trip in a cabin exactly like the old one at 9:10 We had 3 carriages for boys then a shower car & then 3 for girls then a dining car. We were all 12 years old in year 7 (then called form 1) and travelled Melbourne - Geelong - Warrnambool - Grampians - Echuca - Melbourne. With bus trips & packed lunch each day. It cost a massive A$50.00 each which I earned by doing odd jobs for neighbours and selling toys. Being boys we would fill the sink in our twin cabins with water and then tip them out on bridges or at crossings to try to wet people. The boys showered in the evenings and the girls in the mornings. So to get to breakfast the boys had to pass through the shower car & Girls carriages. Picture a dining car full of boys covered in talcum powder having breakfast and you get the idea. Great trip. Brings back many memories. Also we were told Queen Elizabeth II travelled on that train & in one of those cabins.

Hi Rory 👋 what a wonderful experience this was for you and what wonderful memories for me. I absolutely loved riding the Southern Aurora back in the 60s, 70s, and 80s when it was considered a very classy journey. Each sleeping carriage had a board on the platform at Central with the names of each passenger and their title, eg: Mr & Mrs John Smith: Master John Smith ( child) or John Smith esquire (for a single gentleman). The old wooden carriage you actually slept in was very similar to the overnight trains in NSW. I loved these sleeping carriages and always had the window open, rain, hail, or shine even in winter, and I never needed a hot water bottle 😅. Thanks for this amazing presentation, and I definitely think it was good value. Well done, Rory 👏 👍

Rory a very entertaining and impressive video journey, well done! And a unique experience. Train looked awesome, but why no heating and thin bedding which they’ve overlooked for some reason. The food on board looked appealing but the meal at the Shamrock Hotel looked unappetising. Oh well the good experience made up for it. Was in Echuca a few months ago and did a river cruise which was enjoyable, you look like you had a great time, the Moama light show was very pretty. Not bad 2 nights for $1000 as everything is so expensive in Australia, a good find

I travelled on both the Southern Aurora and the Overland several times in the 80's in both the single and double cabins. Loved it then and so glad some of the carriages have been saved. Also travelled on the Adelaide-Perth sector of the Indian-Pacific in 89 in the double. I actually loved the rock and roll and clickety-clacks all night. That wooden carriage looks lovely too, you would think they would supply sufficient bedding though, or at least advise you to bring a winter sleeping bag! Nevertheless, looked like a great trip.

16:35 Old H type carriages still there! I heard they got vandalised though…
And at 19:17, I don’t think the Vlocity is a great option for Deniliquin services. If they can purchase newer locomotives or rebuild the N classes similar to the A and P class locomotives, then they could run there, with N type carriages, as they have a buffet and way more comfortable seats for the 4 hour journey.
