I respect anyone who says Trilogy is his best album (because it's amazing), but Kiss Land for me is untouchable. The visuals, Tears in the Rain, the moody cyberpunk aesthetic, the Blade Runner inspiration, Tears in the Rain, the dark and orchestral production, Tears in the Rain, the insane vocals and vocal riffs, Tears in the Rain, the mystique and the themes...did I mention Tears in the Rain?
This and Tears In The Rain are, in my opinion, some of The Weeknd's best works of art from his entire catalog. Both tracks with their melancholic auras and themes of regret, sacrifice, and love speak to me deeply. Also, The Blade Runner and cyberpunk-esque ambiance adds another layer to the stark cold world where hope is non-existent. Yet, the lyrics still convey Abel's yearning for something he believes he can never have in such a painful, but beautiful way. The coalescence of it all is truly incredible.
Been here forever and staying best album he has ever put out there watch the amount of bandwagon thats going to come i wish this was still our little secret

This song is about falling in love with the wrong person. The setting, his facial expressions, the entire video is filled with metaphors. There isn't one shot in this video without meaning. This is a visual and lyrical masterpiece. I doubt that there is a song of his that I haven't listened to, but this is where he really earned my respect. It takes a real artist; it takes pain to make this.
steven It’s clear that it is about a woman who’s rendered only to objectification, but do you think that undermines the meaning here? The emotion and passion felt, arguably the concern Abel feels for her but she is unredeemable because she “belong[s] to the world”? Whether it’s about a “hooker” or not, listen to the lyrics and the depth conveyed, it’s about a human and her place in the world amongst Abel’s. Even so, I can’t decipher the artist’s intent, but the clues lay within the lyrics and emotions.
I had kiss land the day it dropped. my favorite project of his besides the mixtapes. this is severely underrated and with his popularity now im glad. i'm glad i experienced those kiss land days without the extra shit

Last year I would go around telling everyone hey listen to the Weeknd and they never did now it's "OMG HIS VOICE IS AN ANGELS!" And they only listen to his three new singles
@1 FireHeart 1 i agree but as you can see its only his 3 singles not anything when he was underground. Yes pop mainstream crossover blame ariana grande and fifty shades of grey i love that he has success now dont get me wrong he deserves the recognition but for only 3 songs its basic pop music nothing vulnerable that he used to put out. Thing is those songs are representing him saying i earned my way to the mainstream world. Symbolism in the videos those ppl can not understand and i laugh because its funny. The weeknd said he is a story teller he doesnt spoonfeed peo ppl

What sets The Weeknd apart from all artists the most is that his music is like nothing we've ever heard before, it's pretty much it's own genre and the absolute great thing about him is that he's only getting started!!!!
Its really not all that unique... I mean I like the Weeknd, but he's one artist in a genre that's pretty saturated. And he's not a huge leap from his influences, either.
Ok, so firsty there's influences like Portishead, Goldfrapp, Massive Attack, Prince, MJ, R Kelly, The Dream, Kanye on 808s & Heartbreak, etc. Then there's his contemporaries, from Drake, Ty Dollar $ign and PARTYNEXTDOOR to JMSN, How To Dress Well, FKA twigs, Banks, Jessy Lanza, Zola Jesus, Lana Del Rey, Sampha, James Blake, Inc., SZA, Tinashe, Jhene Aiko, I could go on. I don't mean to say that The Weeknd is ripping anyone off (other than Portishead in this song lolololol), and I really do like him (House of Balloons is one of my all time favs), but to say he's nothing like anything else out there is completely false.
Henry Hill -__- . . . . You gotta be joking other than the amazing King of Pop, all the other artist you mentioned have not even remotely touched The Weeknd's music. And, yes he sampled Portishead with that also excluded. His vocals, his tempo, the mood, the music videos, the lyrics are unlike any other R&B artist out there. Kanye influenced Drake, not the weeknd. Just because you throw out artists that may or may not have been associated with him, or were active before him do not make them influences.
This is actually a beautifully dark love song about 2 broken souls who found each other...rather than try to change one another (supppsedly for the better)...they chose to accept each other.
We have all fell in love with someone with the gift on nonchalance. For me this is one of his most brilliant artistic undertakings. He tapped directly into the intersection of love, pain and loneliness and made it beautifully toxic...
This song and this music video should be in art classes. Such pieces of art are created once in a lifetime. I'm so glad I can experience it. Thank you Abel, thank you.
James Francoln they are dancing a certain style of dance called Butoh created after the bomb in Hiroshima. Is meant to represent the aftermath & society's breakdown in art & music. A very depressing time.
Marienne Vernndetta well after WW2 japan experienced a bit of an economic depression as did Germany. With that it brings hardships to its people but they seemed to bounce back pretty fast
I remember seeing this video on MTV when it first came out and I thought it was weird and boring, I thought the song was weird and boring, and I though The Weeknd was weird and boring. But I hadn't even turned 14 yet, and I was too much of a little ghetto nigga to appreciate this kind of art and creativity. I was too much into Chris Brown and 2 Chainz, and radio bs. Now that I'm older(17), I know that it's more than just catchy hooks and beats that make good music. I missed out on so much of Abel's music when it was initially being released, but in 2014 after I heard Often I told myself I had to check this artist out. Turns out it was the same guy who sang this song. I listened almost every song he had on Spotify and fell in love. I may not be a "day 1 fan" but I appreciate Abel's work and artistry and am a huge fan now, bordering on obsession, Lol
It's been years and I'm still stuck in Kiss Land. When it's all said and done, it will be recognized as the most underrated album and this song is it's anthem
+Tyler Ahrenhold Man did you ever get a chance to catch the Kiss Land tour? It was next level. I wasn't as excited for it as I should have been, but hearing this album live was... just pure artistry.
rockwjz I was lucky enough to go to the fall tour that year when he was touring Kissland. I caught the Camden, NJ show. He was too good. Other than seeing him a t Lollapalooza in 2012, Kissland was my favorite show/tour.
I just love the apparent vulnerability of his heart, im dead inside too, i understand that feeling, as if there is two world, one where there is people still beleiving in thrust, and love and protection, on the other side, there is people like us....broken hearted still walking along side the happy one, kinda numb inside, tend to want some alone time, stillness.
i remember the days when i would bump him in front of people and get weird looks, now everyones like "omg the weeknd is bae" stfu like 3 months ago everyone thought he was a band.
people need to stfu about when they started listening to him.He wasn't that small of a secret. They played him on the radio when Trilogy came out and Drake had a huge impact on his career so you know we were about hear about him.He was premiered on BET..that was in 2013.Yall ain't cool.
9 FREAKING YEARSSS! KISSLAND album is like a medicine for me. A medicine that makes me feel elated and miserable at the same time. It will always remain in the top 2 for me. 💚
+Six God the knowing has a very deep double meaning to the context of what he's singing about and the Ethiopian culture Abel is from....but I like the cinematography in this plus I think he looks very handsome in this video
He definitely deserves legal recognition and a big fat slap on the wrist in the dollar amount of Geoff Barrow's choosing. The guy who made this beat and had it stolen by this no talent hack
Had a recent breakup but whenever I get in my feelings over women I come back to The Weeknd. This guy understands how I feel. I understand the mystery in his music. His voice is strong of emotions just as I am.
Without doubt one of the best song he has ever made. I remember when I took a trip to Louisiana last year and this song was pretty much all I was bumping. Went to sleep listening to it and woke up listening to it and if you ever visit or live in Louisiana and know them long roads, You know I probably listen to this song a lot when I was down there. It's really the beat that I like but don't get me wrong I like the lyrics too but the beat sounds so good
Jorge Daniel Xo I wanna hear more about the Louisiana trip. Sounds awesome. Spelling Louisiana without auto correct is a pain in the fucking ass. Try it and end up spelling algorithmically or some shit.
Kissland will never get old, these ageless songs will never be forgotten and people will regret not listening to them when the time was, just like me who discovered Kissland last year and not when I really needed to.
Just recently, I decided to listen to all the older albums I hadn't heard of his to see how they were. Kissland being the only one I hadn't listened to, lets just say I was not disappointed. I would say this is his most polished album. I feel the dedication to this one, the long hours, the love for it. It just feels like he tucked this album to bed every night. It truly is one of my favorites of his.
@@mariay7497 sirens in Greek mythology was half bird and woman who lured ppl to danger with their voice basically this woman is a temptation and desire to The Weeknd

Such a great artist, in every aspect...the vision...the subliminal abstract expressionism and symbolism he uses in his videos and lyrics...he's on a different level.

The song is perfect and he is perfect. No need to add in more "beats" the weeknd is a treasure not as tarnished in contrast with the extremely mainstream artists.
Subjective. I like bbtm more than KissLand. KL is dope but we had expectations after trilogy. He went left with KL and some tracks don't "sound" like him (lyricism in adaption for example). Nevertheless anything this man touches I'm gonna love lol
Kiss land is really something else. On one hand I wish it got the recognition it deserves but on the other hand I'm glad it is only listened to by real xo fans that can actually appreciate what a masterpiece it is.
I see all of this hate on abel..the truth is this guy found something he's awesome at, has a mesmerizing voice and can sing about whatever he wants because of it. With all of the hate..he's only being more and more respected. He didn't show up on a huge stage overnight..he worked for what he wanted and so should you
Kiss Land was kinda ahead of its time with the whole "create an alternate universe with your album" thing. Yeah, it had happened before, but sadly, if I'm right, Able just didn't have enough eyes on him or funding at the time for Kiss Land to have soared like it should have. Everything else was there; the music, the concept, the visuals, everything. I think if Kiss Land was released after BBTM and maybe had a couple real world interactive events with it, it would be far more appreciated. Even still, it is a cult classic, and there are many fans who can see and appreciate its brilliance. Thank you Mr. Tesfaye for the amazing art!
007Fusiion that actually seems true but lyrically they would work great, if frank sang/rapped like he did in pyramids and super rich kids it'd be amazing
Love his music he's my favorite. Finally an artist with videos that actually make you use your brain. Rappers really show how little talent they have on his tracks.
I feel like if Kissland came out today this would have been more appreciated. This was ahead of its time

hate myself for discovering his music so late
flameout12345 me too
Lol
Can not agree more
flameout12345 Me too
Check out his Trilogy album. Classic! 👍
Henry Hill bullshit. bring links of similar artists, or keep quiet.
Best singer everrrr❌⭕️
Henry Hill -__- . . . . You gotta be joking other than the amazing King of Pop, all the other artist you mentioned have not even remotely touched The Weeknd's music. And, yes he sampled Portishead with that also excluded. His vocals, his tempo, the mood, the music videos, the lyrics are unlike any other R&B artist out there. Kanye influenced Drake, not the weeknd. Just because you throw out artists that may or may not have been associated with him, or were active before him do not make them influences.
Kiss land is insanely underrated
Ikr. Especially this song
Omg yaaaa
His 3 Albums are underrated except Beauty behind the madness....
This, Live For, Adaptation and The Town are the best songs on Kiss Land
T Wegs Love in the sky
His old musics are masterpiece, this feels like not for every person, someone who understand art
This is actually a beautifully dark love song about 2 broken souls who found each other...rather than try to change one another (supppsedly for the better)...they chose to accept each other.
beautifully put
Every one : she belongs to the street
Abel : she belongs to the world
Such a sophisticated man.
Lol he said both
Abel: never need a bitch im what a bitch need.

The Weeknd is probably the only artist I listened too since the beginning of his career.
Michael Bailey I listened to Post Malone and Juice Wrld from the start too, but The Weeknd, I’ve been hearing him since ‘13
Me Too Him and Ed Sheeran

I truly wish that I would have known him before Starboy😩
We have all fell in love with someone with the gift on nonchalance. For me this is one of his most brilliant artistic undertakings. He tapped directly into the intersection of love, pain and loneliness and made it beautifully toxic...
Well said, and he was in his early twenties! Mind blown!!! #masterpiece
Always with a dark undertone.
Karl Sieha Right, that's what makes his songs enjoyable for me, no sugar coated fairytale shit!
I enjoy his song because I got what he says, but it just makes my mood from bad to worse!
+Haroun Ben I agree
Mzj K what I'm really referring to is a little more sinister. Erring on subliminal messaging.
Karl Sieha ko
The fucking depth to this song and music video is insane
Too blinded by the lights, i need his darkness once again.
Same

tbh that's the best comment
dude After Hours literally tells about his return to darkness & Blinding Lights is about him having near-death experience in ambulance after OD
Me too
This song and this music video should be in art classes. Such pieces of art are created once in a lifetime. I'm so glad I can experience it. Thank you Abel, thank you.
Only Abel can make she belong to the streets sound so beautiful
I thought the same thing 💀😢
😂😂
Abel makes anything sound so beautiful ❤‼
To the world * 💀
Behind the bravado, there's a guy behind it who really cares deeply
Damn I love Japanese aesthetics, I love the Weeknd. This is perfection!
+Drake Smith i love it when i hear (technically read) stuff like this. gives me faith
you're right
+Drake Smith dude if you're into expanding your taste you should check out the song he sampled here, Portishead - Machine Gun.
krrrcht I've heard of portishead but haven't listened to any of their songs. Thanks bro, I'll check it out
Omg, the exact same thing happened to me too 😂 I used to criticize his music , but now I love it so much 😭💕😍
*This song and music video was so ahead of its time. A literal masterpiece.*
Future before Future said she belongs to the streets
Watching this high is scary as fuck

The next LEVEL of R&B
the next level of Pure Music ;3
It's been years and I'm still stuck in Kiss Land. When it's all said and done, it will be recognized as the most underrated album and this song is it's anthem
preach
+Tyler Ahrenhold Man did you ever get a chance to catch the Kiss Land tour? It was next level. I wasn't as excited for it as I should have been, but hearing this album live was... just pure artistry.
Me to +Tyler Ahrenhold it saddens me how shallow some of his fans are
rockwjz I was lucky enough to go to the fall tour that year when he was touring Kissland. I caught the Camden, NJ show. He was too good. Other than seeing him a
t Lollapalooza in 2012, Kissland was my favorite show/tour.
Kissland is severely underrated, but the Hills is my favourite song of all time!
Couldn't have said it better myself.
Mireille Bliss im the same way
Everyone is.
Mireille Bliss retweet
Mireille Bliss its called being introverted
i remember the days when i would bump him in front of people and get weird looks, now everyones like "omg the weeknd is bae" stfu like 3 months ago everyone thought he was a band.
people need to stfu about when they started listening to him.He wasn't that small of a secret. They played him on the radio when Trilogy came out and Drake had a huge impact on his career so you know we were about hear about him.He was premiered on BET..that was in 2013.Yall ain't cool.
I know right
YESSS

9 FREAKING YEARSSS!
KISSLAND album is like a medicine for me. A medicine that makes me feel elated and miserable at the same time. It will always remain in the top 2 for me. 💚
Hope he does something for yr ten anniversary
Damn new 10 years

His most creative music video and only 8M hits? What's up with that
+Adrian Śliwiński obviously his version was much better though if you cared enough to click on this video and comment?
+Adrian Śliwiński everyone has different tastes i guess lmao. maybe you like his more popular stuff.
+Kira sj idk The Knowing may top this ..although its more abstract than this
+Six God the knowing has a very deep double meaning to the context of what he's singing about and the Ethiopian culture Abel is from....but I like the cinematography in this plus I think he looks very handsome in this video
people slept on him until this year. i saw this the day it dropped
Weeknd deserves more recognition than he gets
nah. He get enough. At this point in his career in 2013 he did though
in 2013 he was underrated
He definitely deserves legal recognition and a big fat slap on the wrist in the dollar amount of Geoff Barrow's choosing. The guy who made this beat and had it stolen by this no talent hack
Catter Peener then why are you even here if you don’t like him? 😂 get out of here
He sampled this from Portishead. They should get the recognition.
7 years later Kiss Land is the most streamed R&B album right now. The power of Abel💚
XOTWOD
Is it really the most streamed R&B album?
@@maskeddog8754 It was at one point recently
@@maskeddog8754 now AFTER HOURS is most streamed rnb album of all time, google it
Best album of them all. The right thing at the wrong time.
His best for sure.
Had a recent breakup but whenever I get in my feelings over women I come back to The Weeknd. This guy understands how I feel. I understand the mystery in his music. His voice is strong of emotions just as I am.
Agree
🖤
Without doubt one of the best song he has ever made. I remember when I took a trip to Louisiana last year and this song was pretty much all I was bumping. Went to sleep listening to it and woke up listening to it and if you ever visit or live in Louisiana and know them long roads, You know I probably listen to this song a lot when I was down there. It's really the beat that I like but don't get me wrong I like the lyrics too but the beat sounds so good
really interesting...thanks for sharing, please tell me more about your amazing trip to Louisiana
Jorge Daniel Xo I wanna hear more about the Louisiana trip. Sounds awesome. Spelling Louisiana without auto correct is a pain in the fucking ass. Try it and end up spelling algorithmically or some shit.
I don't know you are talking about Louisiana like it's a fascinating state.
Ya I agree the beat is on another level
His whole Kiss Land album is good for long trips, but I agree this song stands out the most
Kissland will never get old, these ageless songs will never be forgotten and people will regret not listening to them when the time was, just like me who discovered Kissland last year and not when I really needed to.
hallo missez chaodery
Just recently, I decided to listen to all the older albums I hadn't heard of his to see how they were. Kissland being the only one I hadn't listened to, lets just say I was not disappointed. I would say this is his most polished album. I feel the dedication to this one, the long hours, the love for it. It just feels like he tucked this album to bed every night. It truly is one of my favorites of his.
The most underrated song of The Weeknd of the most underrated album
Cris Tomé PREACH
Just so happens to be the best and most emotional song he’s ever made
Only thing I regret is not finding out about the weeknd sooner
this album and Trilogy are the best
Why doesnt anyone talk about how this women has hypnotised every man including The Weeknd and she is the only one in their heads 😶
Women
PatriotsTimTebow Yes
A real Siren, that woman. Leading men to our doom.
Jordan Belfort what do you mean?
@@mariay7497 sirens in Greek mythology was half bird and woman who lured ppl to danger with their voice basically this woman is a temptation and desire to The Weeknd
Kissland being the number 1 R&B/soul album in US as of the moment. I'm afraid that he's not a secret anymore :(
God bless Canada for this treasure.
Real fans wills see the true value of this masterpiece. it's incredible the amount of emotion and meaning he can put into a music video
Recently got the vinyl, the whole era is just something else.

damn, kissland is probably my favorite weeknd album, what a tb

Damn I remember watching Snippets and waiting for this video..now 3 years has already passed, seems like a lot of people slept on Kissland
Kiss Land was just the best shit ever
she's so lucky... she got to touch his hair
Watch the 'earned it' video. Dakota touches his hair and he flinches hard. It's super funny. The editor tried to cut it, but you can still see it

Abel this is my favorite song of yours.. thinking that soon you'll be retiring "the weeknd" makes me extremely emotional you're one of the greatest to have done it ! glad to be alive to witness this ❤
"Just as my love and thoughts of you,
Burn in the night and fade into the sun."

Low Key,xo I'm very late haha, but yeah real talk
one of these 24 million views has to have my soulmate in here
literally
its so sad it has less views , when the production is even better than all the MV out there
Not his production
Beyond talented. Love his voice and the pure genius of his art. He is too good to be mainstream...His style does not belong to the world.
The song writing on this album was so elite
Kenny prosper and that’s still an understatement! MASTERPIECE
this music and video is just beautiful. every word has a world to reveal behind it it's amazing
The most underrated album of the history!
Such a great artist, in every aspect...the vision...the subliminal abstract expressionism and symbolism he uses in his videos and lyrics...he's on a different level.
This album was ahead of it’s time
When I first listen to Starboy, I never thought that his older works would be this amazing.
Hands up for you.
Probably his most underrated song
It doesn't matter how long you've been listening, its all about the message you receive from the music.
Started listening to his music in 2016 discovered kiss land at age 15 being heart broken over a girl I never met was crazy his music is legendary . xotwod fams 💞
his music takes me to another dimension ❤
The song is perfect and he is perfect. No need to add in more "beats" the weeknd is a treasure not as tarnished in contrast with the extremely mainstream artists.
the only album that didn't get enough recognition or credit that it deserve are you telling beauty behind madness is better then this album smh ?!!!
SO true
fr this album is WAYYY better
Subjective. I like bbtm more than KissLand. KL is dope but we had expectations after trilogy. He went left with KL and some tracks don't "sound" like him (lyricism in adaption for example). Nevertheless anything this man touches I'm gonna love lol
Haseeb Syed HAH WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT... ADAPTATION WAS THE BEST SONG ON KL. And i love the weeknd ever since he was the noise
Haseeb Syed you are high AF adaption is one of the best song in the album.
Kiss land is really something else. On one hand I wish it got the recognition it deserves but on the other hand I'm glad it is only listened to by real xo fans that can actually appreciate what a masterpiece it is.

This is a piece of art. Amazing.
any who produced this track
portishead
THIS IS ART!!!! Only The Weeknd was ahead of his time. Kiss Land and Trilogy are still the only albums I listen to!
If it ain’t XO then it gotta go!
I see all of this hate on abel..the truth is this guy found something he's awesome at, has a mesmerizing voice and can sing about whatever he wants because of it. With all of the hate..he's only being more and more respected. He didn't show up on a huge stage overnight..he worked for what he wanted and so should you
I can't believe y'all slept on this
dinobublz I'm pretty sure the one reading this comment haven't slept on this.
He is such a different breed. Creative human being, lol
Frank Ocean and the Weeknd should definitely do a collaboration together. It would be amazing
If Frank Ocean would come out of hiding and drop that damn album, then maybe
+Aaron Rock Don't see them harmonizing to be honest.
007Fusiion that actually seems true but lyrically they would work great, if frank sang/rapped like he did in pyramids and super rich kids it'd be amazing
+Aaron Rock It would be amazing
Leslie Olivares I know right! Let's hope they do
Love his music he's my favorite. Finally an artist with videos that actually make you use your brain. Rappers really show how little talent they have on his tracks.
why does this only have 9 million views?
Ikr
Because it's not mainstream. Like "The hills"
Biniam Daniel klfkmf
At this point, this is art. I just come back when I need it.
