I built an Olds small block 403 based on a Dave Smith Oldsmobile design. I sent the computer controlled carburetor to the carb shop to have it reworked. I used a 700R4 because of the overdrive and the low first year. I used the TCI adapter plate to get it to mount up to an Oldsmobile motor. Standing still under blankets in an heated garage for almost seven years from the former and first owner. Apparently one of the few ever imported back then here in Belgium. An Olds Hurst wouldn't look out of place next to this one :) ...
Had the same car in '93 but it was an '85 442 same exact car withought the Hurst shifters. The 307 snapped the plastic timing gear chain so I rebuilt it w an Engle Cam on stock (crappy) Olds pedastal rockers , Delta 98 '77 403" SB olds Intake w matching Quadrajet and Hooker Long tubes. Those 3 motor mods alone let the car run low 14's from the stock 17 e.t. + the 200R4 had a cop stall and Transgo kit and Stock 3 :55's 8.5" rear just like the Turbo Regals had. Once you get these olds motors flowing some air they move! These days there are the aftermarket heads we didnt have 25 years ago. I embarrased quite a few 5.0 Fox body dudes back in the day from a dig and a roll.
These hurst olds came with 3:73 gears and the tyranny was upgraded to have firmer shifts so yeah, they will bark second. Even better is the 79 version with a true 350 olds motor in it that also will break loose in 2nd !
My first car was a 79 Oldsmobile Cutty with that 260 v8. Motor was such a dog and we do the flip the air cleaner cover thing lol than i got the open chrome one and thought i was the man. but I love that body style

I had this exact style car. I love these old gbodys. Only I had swapped in a 400 olds motor bored and stroked to a 427. Aluminum heads from Dr olds, man they were worth the money. 9inch rear. And a backyard suspension drop. Single 4 inch exhaust. And a monster kit in a 200r4 trans. And 17 inch wheels. Man I miss that car. Hit a large dog at 3am and it killed the car and almost killed me. I had almost $20k into it. Everything has to made. Couldn't get anything off the shelf
I could see a 350 or 403 build to keep the weight down vs the 455, the 307 doesn't have much potential. The factory trans should be fine. Bilstein shocks with heavier springs & beefier sway bars would suffice for improved handling. Maybe upgrade rear to the 8.5 if it is in fact a 7.5. Add a rear disc conversion and call it quits.
I am a Ford person that's all I have on since the '80s. That doesn't stop me from thinking another brand car looks good. I'm old enough to remember when these first it came out. Normally he would only see one car go down the quarter mile and after you would never see them there again. These things were pigs in drag racing. Depending on the driver is a car was a steady 15 second car and with a average driver it ran 16s all day. Even for the '80s standard that that was just embarrassing. I will love to see this car go down the quarter mile after the new motor is put in. They still have that classic look. As always reminds me of the Buick Grand nationals. You think it was just a grandpa's car until they stepped on the gas pedal and just blow right past you. Now those cars into the track every weekend with us toward guys. Just stop those cars were in the 13th with a good driver. When the ford guys for all switching to sticky tires or straight out racing slicks sent these cars in the 12s with no problem at all. Like I said at the beginning just because I am Ford person I still do enjoy watching and looking at other makes and models.
I like your axle stand. A little twist on that phrase. When you were assembling the rear axle / suspension into the car. The car you bought was a fabulous probably not to be found again condition. So you did some great improvements and the car as far as handling speed and everything else is better than it ever was. But that's not the point. For what it was in 1980s it was something. It paid tribute to its ancestry. Can you put a bunch of parts on it that wasn't available nearly 35 years ago. Especially the quality of the parts. I'm not going to beat you up on it anymore and then say why tear up something that is such fabulous shape for 35 years of age? Of course on the other side of the coin is that's what hot rodders do. They take something old throw a bunch of parts on it and make it go faster handle better possibly. So is this car just going to sit in a warehouse someplace after you're done with it? Or will it be sold for a new owner to do with what he wants? Or basically will ever see the light day and be driven occasionally? Now it's always interesting to see what a person can do when they have a healthy bank account to spend on a car. I'm not knocking your creation. I'm just asking why do this to something that was so well preserved and unlimited production car?
To my knowledge of going to the Oldsmobile dealership back in the day 4 my G Body they made about 4 different kinds of front springs stock to performance rates and HD sad to see them junk rare Oldsmobile parts 😢 glad as a OLDSMOBILE MAN that it's steel Olds powered
Sucks that they did. Plain Cutlass = a dime a dozen. They screwed up a sweet Jeep XJ with their LS 2wd swap. I would have gladly traded a plain Cherokee Sport to have the XJ Wagoneer that they sacrificed.
Thank God it's not gonna be just another LS swap. Can't believe I'm to the point we're I'm excited about a small block swap these days when that used to be so played out before. But I also hate making a mutt Olds belong in an Olds Chevy in Chevy and Ford in Fords
Am I the only guy here who was appalled that they took a true survivor and just trashed it with this stuff? I mean had they found one that was in rough shape and then ripped into it I would have been happier. They took one that was in great shape and devalued it. They also could have just done a stock Cutlass and did the same and that would have been great too! It was like taking a stock, numbers matching 63 Corvette or a 69 Pontiac GTO and doing this to it.

Um, Oldsmobile Bravada was pretty much a Trailblazer and it came with a 5.3LS so really an LS could be a Olds product. Even the Izuzu Ascender was available with an LS as well as the Buick Rainer, & the Saab suv. From that era they’re all just rebadged trailblazers.
What did it run in the 1/4 ? They ran high 15s back in their day. Figured it probably was close to that., Good looking car. Along with the Monte Carlo SS and Grand Nationals of the same years
Of course I have a G-Body recipe in my head😁. Doesn't involve a Montie SS though it does use a modern power plant so crate LS is in order. Little known, depending on your location, package put together by a Darlington Dealership. Start with an M80 Malibu. Upgrade to a CPP Stage III package. Drop in the LS coupled with a TKO 5spd. 9"inch Currie rear. True duals w/cats to keep it nice and friendly to the tree huggers, and Uncle Sam if needed. Finish off with a set of NASCAR style Bart wheels. OR for the Family Man, instead of an M80, use a More Door as a starting point and build it as an Iraqi Taxi with an automatic. Those are even less well known than the M80.

Sounds like some dudly horsepower lol good ol reliable 307
That’s why it’s called the G-Body Shuffle
Like the way they spray the underside, right over grease and dirt!
Thats gotta have a shift kit etc to get a second gear bark like that. Nice Olds for sure.
These hurst olds came with 3:73 gears and the tyranny was upgraded to have firmer shifts so yeah, they will bark second. Even better is the 79 version with a true 350 olds motor in it that also will break loose in 2nd !
I had a 442 always wanted one of these my friend had one
Joe Mondello built the motor, I'm interested now. This should get interesting.
My first car was a 79 Oldsmobile Cutty with that 260 v8. Motor was such a dog and we do the flip the air cleaner cover thing lol than i got the open chrome one and thought i was the man. but I love that body style
Love the copywrite-free White Zombie at 10:54 Vines 19:13
love the G-body content my 1st 2 cars was a 84 cutlass and 2nd was 86 regal.... 3rd car was supposed to b a 87 national but owned didn't want to sell it to a 19yr old thought I wouldn't appreciate it so always found a reason not to sell it to me after 4 attempts.... SOOO LOVE THE G-BODY CONTENT!
I have an 87 cutlass with t tops with a hurst drivetrain and interior from Florida zero rust fully restored body and interior
I also bought one of these new. For what it was suppose to be it was gutless.
I love the LS engine, but I'm glad you kept this project all-Oldsmobile.
That 455 was built back when Horsepower TV was still around lol
Glad to see it isn't another boring LS swap
Leave it to the hacks on power
Nation to do a “build” on a rare car. Next they’re going to Donk a 94 impala. Thanks guys
I do like it better when they build everyday low-option cars into monsters. 😉
I could see a 350 or 403 build to keep the weight down vs the 455, the 307 doesn't have much potential. The factory trans should be fine. Bilstein
shocks with heavier springs & beefier sway bars would suffice for improved handling. Maybe upgrade rear to the 8.5 if it is in fact a 7.5. Add a rear disc conversion and call it quits.
I'd be impressed if they made a mid 70s Impala out of a 94
@@lb9gta307 Converting a 1994 Impala from a 4 door to a 2 door SS with a manual transmission would be awesome.
Mr. M on the olds motor is epic 🎉 glad it’s true olds power
The upcoming build should include retaining the stock CCC system.
LOL. Good one. I ditched that computer ONE WEEK after I got my 86 442.
@@abstracts2004 it's definitely a technical system & not for the faint-of-heart. I think these guys could do it.
The 442 was a very cool car, too. The H/O had the 3 lightning rod shifters like the ones in a Pro Stockcar with a Lenco.
Hello friend Good morning 🌄🌄 greatting from Macau China nice bring already in 80 style
This amazing show
The g body hurst olds came with 8.5in rearends
That's what I said to myself when I saw that. MY 86 442 has the 8.5
The '84 did. The '83 did not.
Stock rear should be 8.5.. monster transmissions are proven to be junk also they spend a shit load to advertise tho
Needs 12inch rear tires then it will be perfect!
And it still has the old worn out body bushings...
Relax they only just started, they have alot left to go on this project
@@bradenkowal8117 LOL
Their first gbody
That rubberized under coating was a bad idea it's going to keep moister in and rot the frame quicker. Should have used either line X or rhino lining.
I had 2 these cars where slugs even a 305 camaro was quicker I ended up putting a 403 with 350 b heads and was able to get some good power
How relatable this 20k upgrade video is!
Tommy Boshers is My Favorite Mechanic 😁😏
Good job on keeping the Olds engine Joe modellow
It’s for heat, you know this Thomas!! Spinnin ain’t winnin
I would love to have that olds it has the t-tops like what I like.
I owned one. Bought new in 83. More show than go😉
Y'all left the vice grips attached to the parking brake cable..
Probably because they are no where near finished yet? 🤣
I hate air bags! bags pop all the time and the ride is crap
Oh great now we have to wait a month to see Part 2 😅
Love G-bodies they just suck in stock form…this is gonna be good!
I personally wouldn’t do that to a hurst now a regular cutty yea
Sucks that they did. Plain Cutlass = a dime a dozen. They screwed up a sweet Jeep XJ with their LS 2wd swap. I would have gladly traded a plain Cherokee Sport to have the XJ Wagoneer that they sacrificed.
Thank God it's not gonna be just another LS swap. Can't believe I'm to the point we're I'm excited about a small block swap these days when that used to be so played out before. But I also hate making a mutt Olds belong in an Olds Chevy in Chevy and Ford in Fords
Long life #PowerNation ...❤❤❤
You young cats! Haha. Try feathering those brakes and she’ll stop a whole lot quicker..
Hey guys I'm glad y'all are still making these videos because it's not airing on regular TV like it used to. I don't know if y'all have changed things up where it's mainly just on the Internet or what but there are millions of us who are supporting y'all the whole power Nation family and hoping y'all never in the show. It's nice to sit and watch these videos with our kids, keeps everyone motivated. Y'all are an awesome group of guys keep up the great work
Not sure how old this video is, but they mention Joe Mondello who died 12 years ago...
The videography in this episode looks fantastic. I would love to see y'all incorporate gimbals when you're using GoPros
great project. it would be nice to know the cost.
You guys chose a great looking machine to give the treatment. This 442 has more than aged well - it still rocks, but you just don't see them anymore.. Anyway, all the success to you guys. Thanks, from Rustbelt Canada 👍
Hurst*
Not a 442
I like that version a guy used parts from a Bravada on made it all wheel drive.
Still impressive that you got rubber stock in every gear on the strip
I've owned mine 16 years all original
So glad it didn't turn into just another ls swap
I'm kicking myself in the ass for selling my '82 Monte Carlo T Top last year. Oh well, my '68 C10 is more important to me, and I can only afford one project.
1:08 man, watching both horsepower smoke the tire like that never gets old.
The problem with the power Nation UA-cam channel is we're going to have to wait 3 years for the motor to go in see you then
Yes sir love it love it and love them Wheels
Joe Mondelo has been dead since 2011! It's been sitting awhile..... a great home for it, though.
How about wearing a seatbelt when you drag race!!
Didn't that car come with a 200R4? Which is overdrive and can be built up quite well... how you going to get that Chevy style tranny to bolt on that BOP block?
200R4 had a dual bolt pattern on the casting. One was for a BOP motor, the other for Chevy.
@@sportsterrestorer1 If I'm not mistaken, there were three bolt patterns. BOP only, Chevy only and Dual (both BOP and Chevy).
@@kmabru From what I’ve been able to find on several transmission sites, 200R4s came with either a BOP pattern solely or the dual bolt pattern.
Ugggggggg....air bags.......
Rubberized undercoating can trap moisture, I always go the extra step and have Line X applied to the undercarriage of a restored vehicle.
What is crazy look what factory cars are out there today HP starting 400. My truck 6.2L has 425 HP.
Dream car 🚗😃👍
Very cool!
