- Dr. David Anders joins us for an in-depth look at the accusation that the Catholic Church is superstitious. The Catholic relationship to superstition might at times be complicated, but the complications have a very Catholic remedy.
I think this topic is so helpful for me to explain to my protestant family. Catholic 'superstition' is (in my mind) equal to radical protestant movements.
It's not how God wants us to approach Him, but we're human and we fall into traps...May God help us.
Man, I love Dr. Anders. Anders/CA Mashup!
Fantastic episode.
What a beautiful video God bless
I always love these Catholic answers podcast. Very informative. Keep up the good work and God Bless you 🙏🏼✝️.
How goes the condemnation of Messalianism square with Ignatian spirituality's Discernment of Spirits?
Does anyone know what the devotion is he was talking about that the bishop forbade? I’m really curious
Same here
Thanks! Excellent episode!!! I have a new question now : How should We, catholics, interpret feelings? I mean , Can we feel God? His love, mercy, Grace?
Really amazing episode. I love catholic answers focus.
I really liked David's analysis from the history and then talking through different cultural aspects.
One thing which I disagree is his comment on charismatics. I think there is a deeper understanding of the emotions and God working through our emotions. Maybe the time didnt permit to discuss this in detail.
Ofcourse blanket rule of saying God is moving just because I feel something can be questioned but on another note there might be instances where there is tangible manifestation of God working through our emotions.
I don't think we can disregard that.
Great episode Cy! Big fan of Focus.

belief in magic gods *is* superstition.
Correct!
@@cafocus thanks for agreeing with me. And like all supernatural things, you have no evidence for your religion at all.

It would seem that naturalism would have a hard time “getting started”, and is unprovable and thus believed by faith for philosophical reasons. The notion that naturalism should be the default belief system until tee-totally proven false is itself an arbitrary and philosophical position.
I think we have to bear in mind that the supernatural and the magical are not identical. This statement contains within it a naturalistic presupposition which is itself not a foregone self evident truth.
