No, Aerith is alive.
Tifa had static and saw both worlds. One, Aerith is covered in blood. Two, Cloud blocked Sephiroth and Aerith isn't harmed. Now, here's how you know which is which. Seph needed to force Cloud and company into the World Between Worlds with the key to get the black materia. This happened right when Tifa saw static. The WBW Temple is not on the Northern continent, only in the Main. The WBW is the OG game. Seph has taken everyone except Aerith to the OG world.
That is why Aerith seems dead. Cloud understands it's an illusion. Cissnei doesn't feel Zack is dead either.

I just finished Rebirth, and I feel insane. Masterpiece? What?! Not even close.
This game felt like a Kingdom Hearts game disguised as a Final Fantasy game. And you know how convoluted the KH series is.

Anti Fun is the best way I can describe this game. 90% of it is unskippable nonsense filler, and even if you just push the main story it is filled with the same unskippable forced nonsense. Nothing matters until the last 2 chapters outside of barret/red development. I absolutely loved Remake, but I just wanted Rebirth's Chadley Slavery Simulator to be over as fast as possible

I actually can't stand chadley is one of the biggest things that ruined it. Soon as I seen him in remake I knew this plauge of a npc would not leave me alone. He's just boring and never want listen to him, got no character in him his just a blank npc. I swear square no this but just ran out ideas.
Have you ever played the original FF7? The Kalm town intro alone was an unskippable cut scene flashback that took like 20-30 minutes.

I haven't played ever crisis. That looks to be like a more 1 to 1 remake with just added cut scenes and lore bolted to the CORE story not injected into or replacing anything. Has anyone played it or is my assumption about that wrong?

It's actually so hilarious that they brilliantly make an argument against rampant corporatism, with Shinra abusing the planet and people to make profits, best illustrated with the Gold Saucer where people entertain themselves with cheap minigames and use an enormous lot of energy, whilst the outside is a desert wasteland. But then...The game itself is a Gold Saucer...Meaning...As a player you are the idiot getting abused by Shinra (Square Enix) for profits. Its all so ironic.

This comment will go unnoticed, but your critique was the best I've seen for this game. Too many cowards on UA-cam are scared sharing their genuine critique and keeps backtracking because they didn't want to disappoint FF7 fans.
Or upset them. I want to get invested into the franchise but I have a sneaking suspiscion, that the new players only played the Remake first.
I did FF7 Remake 100% plus DLC and really felt it had too much silly side quests, unneeded bloat and unnecessary trophies. I’ve been putting off Rebirth and I fear it’s not only more of the same but a hell of a lot more of the same 😅 maybe 1 day but I’m not ready to endure it just yet (if ever)

The games don't just have flaws. They're a hate-letter to original Final Fantasy fans by a dude who's so butthurt about the original creator's success that he's willing to destroy the past to leave his mark. Just look at the Nomura interviews. It's scorched earth.

This game was touched by Ubisoft and nobody can’t tell me anything. So much filler and side quests that completely ruins the overall experience. I’m still in chapter 9 and have dropped it for Stellar Blade lol.
Agreed, i'm having more fun with Stellar Blade than Rebirth, at least the textures don't go crazy in Stellar Blade and it doesn't have a horrible amount of padding like this game

I just finished the game. And i just want to say that thank goodness I am not the only who shares the same sentiments that FF7 rebirth has major flaws in its gameplay and story. It's pacing is super slow, it feels like watching an anime with 50% fillers

As an OG FF7 player from 97 I get why they wanna mess with everyone and complicate stuff to make us talk for a couple of years about "theories" and buy the next game but not a big fan of this. too complicated that 90% of people don't get what is going on. I never had that around ff7 as a kid.
A game isn't well written or "deep" just because people are clueless and can only speculate what is going on all the time.
I've hated Nomura's work since FF8, nd now he's messing up my favorite game of all time.
Roche has a hand in killing this reboot. Don't forget about unnecessary character additions to the main story.
He annoyed the shit out of me in Remake. After fighting him on the motor cycle with that ridiculous anime bullshit I stopped playing and never touched it again. I say this as a giant fan of the original who has a descent threshold for anime stupidity.

There is more minigame and mindless rock scanning than actual story in Rebirth.
The lifespring scans was also just..meh. Why do we even have to press the same triangle pattern three times, on every new lifespring?? It brings nothing challenging or excitement to the table, just a waste of time.
@@Jon-ks3ds There are a lot of just "for the sake of it" moments in this game. Even the aspect of struggling against the inevitable moments during cut scenes (press R2, press R1, press R2) simply to say "there you go Sony, we incorporated pressure sensitive triggers" - also the sit up minigame before I forget.
Really disappointed with the amount of filler.
It got to the point that I was literally rolling my eyes every time I got a notification for more side content. "Oh, yay! More minigames..." That is NOT supposed to happen in a good RPG.

So instead of the OG plot of "get Black Materia, summon Meteor, nearly destroy the planet to harvest all the lifestream energy," it's "Get Cloud and the others to kill fate itself, to cause timelines to split, then bring the timelines back together, and get the Black Materia, summon Meteor, and and nearly destroy the planet to harvest all the lifestream energy." Sure Nomura, those extra, superfluous steps were totally necessary.
We're not sure what the plot is even about, in terms of Sephiroth's plans.
Remake part 1 and Rebirth are basically big nothing and filler.
Part 3 will supposedly tell us what Sephiroth wants to do.

Dude I had to force myself to finish it, and the way they handled the ending just pissed me off. I dont think I even care where it goes next. Kinda just wish they simply remade the original game. I was one of the defenders of the new additions in remake, but my god they really jumped the shark with rebirth. The ending felt INCREDIBLY rushed and thrown together. Tell me, how is that EVEN POSSIBLE in a game that took me over 120 hours to complete?

As someone who has played all final fantasy games, and love ff7, this is one of the worst games I have ever played. Wtf is with these shit mini games every 5 seconds??? Infuriating!!!! And the story is not at all that of ff7. Complete shit to call it final fantasy 7 at all

I remember when I did the Chicken sidequest in Gongaga, I too, was livid over that nonsense. When the last chicken was meters out from the town, I was like, "Fuck no, I'm not dragging that chicken all the way back to the town like that. This thing can die out here in the jungle for all I give a shit." Luckily it was just a side-boss battle that needed done, and the chicken died by the old lady anyways. Other than that, I agree with most of your points about the game.
I'm still enjoying it but ye they could done better. I'd rather fight then do the horrible mini games, even if that fight is tough. The og never had this many annoying mini games square just padding here. I ofter wonder in the 140gb game how much combat vs mini games there is. I'm 3 quarters in the game and stopped there as chadley is just ruining the game for me. Why can't we just have secret item,weapons and materia like og, Instead all the items just given to us like now we don't need search secret summons anymore which kills gameplay.
You don't feel heroic completing a minigame. You're just relieved that the chore is over.

The whole remake series is just a cynical cash grab. It's lowest common denominator fanservice taken way too far by changing the entire plot to appease the insane fan-fiction writing masses who didn't want Aerith to die, who wanted Tifa to be the main love interest, who wanted Zack to show up, etc -- combined with tons and tons of time-wasting padding so they'd have an excuse to turn it into three "episodes" just so they could charge you three times for the same damn game.
Nomura is a hack and Hamaguchi is a moron.
Blame nojima he's the main writer. Trash POS.
Interestingly enough, I had the exact same complaint about the boss fights. They feel like a chore, not like something cool.
I thought the boss fights in FF16 were amazing. I actually couldn't wait to fight another boss because they kept upping the ante on spectacle and greatness. In FF7R, I dread boss fights because it's generally the same steps for me;
1. start fight, figure out what weakness
2. restart fight, now with proper materia/elemental
3. grind toward stagger
4. actually do damage and beat boss
I can't stand boss fights that are almost immune to everything except for a specific tactic or element. No, I shouldn't have to master a game just to make boss fights faster and more tolerable. Until you stagger an enemy, it feels like you're beating a concrete wall with your bare hands and the game turns into a puzzle where you figure out the fastest way to stagger.
Staggering should've been a bonus, not a requirement.
I think the boss fights overall were disappointing compared to Remake

I was 14 hours in and stopped playing to focus on P3 Reload and Stellar Blade. I literally just finished Stellar Blade and tried to get back into Rebirth and can honestly say I hate it.
I am just kinda burned on remakes generally. Both the movie and games industry seems to have become creatively bankrupt, choosing to milk nostalgia instead of trying something new. Some new ideas float to the top but they are floating on a literal ocean of repetition.
Resident evil and dead space remakes were both amazing. Super mario rpg and updated zeldas have been amazing too. Think it depends on the company. Square Enix has been striking out for years
I share the same sentiment, I think it's a bit of a safer bet for them given (supposedly) how much it costs to make these games, they can always rely on recouping some money from people buying them for the namesake alone if anything

Jenova has a mimic ability and can appear as anyone or anything. Sephiroth gains this ability from Jenova. Jenova has the ability to call a reunion to gather her individual parts should she become separated. Sephiroth gains this ability from jenova. (Sephiroth was infused with Jenova cells in the womb)
It is not a sequel. Sephiroth did die in final fantasy 7 ps1. He died at Nibelheim , he falls into the lifestream with Jenovas head. The lifestream cannot absorb him as he is not from the planet and he ends up in a mako cocoon in the northern crater where he is healing and soaking up mako. He then uses Jenovas mimic ability to control people that has jenovas cells to call a reunion to recreate his mother. When he learns about the black materia he decides to use it to attack the planet and siphon off the planets healing abilities to repair itself. Making sephiroth into a god like being. Where he can then continue Jenovas work of traveling the solar system to feed off of other planets life force. He manipulates cloud into bringing him the black materia which is used to summon meteor a powerful spell that can destroy the planet. Because cloud is infected with Jeniva cells. When the reunion is succesful we fight a weakend form of Jenova and then a reincarnated sephiropth. With sephiroth defeated cloud challenges the mental hold over him that sephiroth is using to manipulate him using Jenovas cells. The final battle is not a physical battle but a mental battle in clouds mind. In the movie sephorith once again can not be absorbed into the lifestream and his remnants desire a reuinuin they belive the reuinuin is to reunite with jenova but it is to reuinte Sephiroth eho has gained this ability from jenova. This is why his remnants exist. They seek to reunite with Jenova but really sephiroth is using them to reuinte his own body.
The remake/rebirth is clearly going for a timeline where sephiroth was either successful or managed to escape his fate and is now looking for an alternate timeliness to remove aaerith and the white materia do he cannot be stopped. So this is an alternate sephiroth who has either been successful in taking over his particular universe and now seeks to control them all or has escaped his destiny and is now seeking to be successful.
This is a remake and it is being done very poorly. Unfortunately.

Main reason it didn't do so well because it stray away from what made the original so good.
Many scenes are cut, story been changed far too much and lot of original content is gone.
New sceenes added in don't make it better or add too much to the main plot of the story, furthermore the change of character personalities like Cid shows that SE doesn't have gall to put in the game what made original so gritty.
It's not a bad game but they clearly should have either followed the original game or just made an entirely alternative story. The mini games are really way too much.
Also exclusively on Ps is not helping the sales.
I love ff7. This game is bloated ass. Boring as all hell until the very end story wise. I think remake was a better experience overall due to the linear game design and more to the point storytelling. Which is a shame because the big excitiment for Rebirth was the open world. Now that I know, I'm not really hyped for the finale like I was for rebirth. It just feels like chores I have to finish because i started it.

I think a part of the reason for the low sales with Rebirth have to do with the fact that the last chapters of Remake were just painful to go through, along with convoluted JRPG storytelling. Finally someone speaks the truth, this Game is highly overrated 😢 and it does not respect my time. The Open world just kills the Vibe. And personally I think, maybe I am the only one, but the fighting System is just shit.

I think all Square forgot the one main thing that draw many people wanting for FF7 remake. It was the story. I don't mind adding on "new details" for the story but alter the backbone of the story will be a recipe for chaos.

This is literally like that in OG. Gameplay and lore never correlates otherwise you'd have to question turn based, tactical battle systems, healing items and immunity to death equip in lore.

You nailed it, man. I couldn't play it for long sessions. I average 3 hours a day with it, but I play it multiple times. Like 15-40 minutes, then put it on rest mode and return when I feel like it. The game battle is not that hard, but in my first run, I had to put it in easy mode because the battles are just damn too long Lol. There are still great moments, like chapter 12: I completed all the intel and I love Queens Blood, but some of the sidequests are a chore.

Yeah this is also what I don't get. As far as I understood, Sephiroth's original goal was to start the planet over with Meteor, because he felt that his mother was wronged and that he was part of the original tribe living on the planet.
Now it just seems like he wants to control the multiverse, but why? What are his motivations to do that? Now he just seems like he wants to be as evil as possible for no reason.

Yeah I was hyped for it on release date. Love the original ff7. Beat remake and thought it was a start to something good, not that it was worse/amazing. But good enough. But after just playing for a few hours, I think I'm just going to skip the next game. 😔

Thank you for the honest review. As much as i wanted to see this game succeed they are doing everything they can to ruin it, in my opinion. Its amazing how many videos exist promoting it as better than the original. Its also amazing how a majority of those include beginning notes of "...sorry for the limited content, but square is only letting us use these clips before the game is released...". BS and sad that they are trying to slog through a bad game release by buying/paying for good reviews. Yuck. Thank you for this, I very much agree with your points on the bad story. This game sucks compared to the original. The fanboyism is unreal. The only thing that is good about this game is the graphics. The story changes are all trash. The combat sucks and is messy af. So many stupid mini games. Literally every 5 steps you have to do a stupid mini games, like there are enough mini games to make a separate game on its own like Mario party.

Or for example zack death in the original was by the hand of small group, but in remake it is a whole army which sits there in anime pose like from Jojo. A lot of moments were ruined for me because of that. Sephiroth is not menacing person like from og, it is smiling person, who wants bang Cloud, i guess. That's how game presents him, narratively and through sound design. For me it is a little final fantasy Disney edition

AC was medium experience for me. It contradicts a lot of character, world development from the game. And design of characters/faces not my favorite.

I was honestly extremely happy when I saw cloud save Aerith at first but the moment I saw her suddenly die out of nowhere, that made me furious.

It's like guys! If you are going to introduce the concept of a multiverse in FF7 then you better have a new original story prepared, otherwise this trilogy so far has been nothing but wasted potential. Don't get me wrong I like most of the game but that scene just ruined it.
In multiverse there are literally infinite alternative timelines IE universes where anything can happen.
If something happens in one timeline the opposite will happen in another, that's just how multiverse works.
If they aren't going to change her fate they should have sticked to the original source material. Or just keep the same director on the same project so there aren't as many inconsistencies.

I know we are supposed to be confused. But I really hope part 3 gives us complete answers and not more mind game confusion crap ie matrix reloaded/revolutions.
By the time I got to Chapter 12 of Rebirth I was burnt-out. I mean holy crap this game is long. I had to force myself to keep on playing in order to beat it. The main story of Rebirth could probably be beaten in 30 to 40 hours, however there is a lot of padding in the form of tacked-on mini games most of which are mandatory in order to progress in the story, its ridiculous. It's why i enjoyed Rebirth a lot less then Remake. Remake actually respected my time. after Rebirth, I needed a long break from open world RPGs. The best way to describe Rebirth is...just an exhausting game to play.
Oh and I hate Chadley. Screw that kid.
The game also uses cheap tricks to get you to waste MORE time with post story content. An example is long gauntlet matches that gate the best gear in the game, in which you need to go through a half hour of multiple fights, only to fight an end boss that spams an instant stun lock for an unblockable instant death attack. To beat it requires perfect timing and there is no way to practice for the fight, other than to spend another half hour beating stuff you already know you can beat, for one more successive attempt where you failed. To beat it will require players to spend many hours regoing through the exact same matches they have already fought too many times, like being forced to watch a 30 minute cutscene, every time you want to take another shot where you failed or even practice at it. That is completely unreasonable. They could have easily allowed players to retry the match they lost in the same condition HP and MP wise that round started in, but the penalty for failing is having another half hour of your time wasted for each attempt. Screw that and Square Enix. I think the reason the hardcore fans attack anyone who points out its flaws is due to the Sunk Cost Fallacy. Where essentially, the person has invested so much time, that the sink in even more to justify their time already spent. I got over the honeymoon and realized that I really don't like how this game gates the best stuff behind obnoxious time wasters where the player is repeating time wasting tasks that they already did, over and over. Abusive of the players time and not fun. There are tons of MUCH better and more fun indy games to play. Square deserves the low sales. The only serviceable way to play this will be the PC version, eventually, when modders have had a chance to fix the problems.

If you're willing to spend days going through that then there is something wrong with you.

I knew Square would pull that shit, and that is completely unreasonable to expect even a completionist to do unless the goal is to make completionists avoid buying the game. Color me crazy, but I think that completionist content should still be fun, even if it's challenging. You never want a segment of players to drop off and stop purchasing from your company. The challenging part should not be due to testing your patience to do previously beating fights over and over. That is objectively bad game design, and most people will decide not to purchase from publishers who they know does that. There is a reason this game's sales are terrible.

Also, those that are rarely discuss it openly because you have the gamer elitists that will ridicule them for giving up at a game they weren't having fun with. Its very hard to get statistics on it for that reason, but I can tell you that I like to engage with all of a game's content if I'm going to play it, and the prior one had content that made me choose not to buy the sequel. I have seen enough people complaining about that content being doubled down on that I'm glad I saved myself from countless hours of frustration. And when a game is failing in sales, then the the devs ought to leave no stone unturned uncovering what about their product is making it fail. Frustrating content ought to be one of those things.
They jumped the shark with the ending of Remake and should've followed through creating an original story in the same setting. Instead they still follow the same progression as the original and undermining it simultaneously with their multiverse additions.
"Marvel did a multiverse, maybe we should too." Yeah and Marvel now sucks, and oh look, so does the new FF7. Bought the first two, just gonna watch a playthrough of part 3.
They didn't stick with the original ending for this section though.
Instead, it was a schizophrenic Avengers style multiverse battle so tone-deaf that it made the audience not even care that Aerith just died.
It's like taking a serious drama moment in a film and flash-cutting to a John Wick style action shootout after the big emotion climax of the movie, and feels like the amateur hour writing mistake a high school student would make in creative writing class.

The best way i can describe the game is that its full of high highs and devastating low lows, there were many times where it felt genuinely incredible and there are sometimes where it felt like it was designed and written by the janitors where i had to ask myself "HOW THE HELL DID THEY THINK THAT THIS IS FUN" there is just so much content for the sake of content trying to justify the full price, ubisoft approach to the open world sadly didnt do it any favor, i have seen reviews criticizing THE EXACT SAME THING that they are praising in rebirth, the game gets a lot of pass because of the "FF7" logo and dont even get me started on the multiverse bullshit and how they fucked up one of the most iconic scenes in gaming.

I never dive too deep into mini games. They just don’t interest me, and that goes for any game I’ve ever played. So needless to say, Rebirth is painful to play because of the forced mini games.

This entry lacks any subtlety. As in none of the characters can hold a plot point, they have to tell everything within 5 minutes. IE Tifa tells you immediately that she doesn't remember Cloud from 5 years ago, Cait Sith is up front about working for Shinra and force ghost Aerith is like 'don't worry about the meteor, I got you fam'.
Not to forget Sephiroth shows up front and center every step along the way reminding us he's the main antagonist of the game like "Cloud... I am so dark and evil... I want you to be dark and evil too... let the evil flow in you... bring me black materia..." then Cloud goes "Sephiroth!!!" and cuts him into smoke.
yeah that the new trend nowadays: you have to expecitly explain everything and hold the player's hand because poeple now became so stupid, they can't remember anything for longer than a tik tok video... otherwise if they had stayed true to the original, players would go "who the f**k is that dude?" everytime sephiroth shows up...
You cover a lot of stuff, but the crazy thing is there’s so much more.
One of my biggest problems is that after fighting the last boss and Sephiroth in Remake, fighting anything else didn’t feel like a treat. Fighting the Turks or anything else felt more like a waste of time. Why are we fighting these weaklings.
The snake section didn’t make sense, we had just fought Sephiroth and to make things worse we fight him again.
And for the last game Sephiroth is sure to be the last boss again…it cheapens the whole thing.
Finally I don’t think our timeline Aerith died, since Cloud clearly stops Sephiroth and the materia that drops is not clear.
The current fanbase of FF is hopeless. They really think the combat is a masterpiece. They enjoy the endless padding. I'll never understand why, but ill never buy another FF game sadly
I'm sorry, but the most atrocious part of this game was the Gongaga world map. Until that point, I had not looked at any guides for anything in the game. Then I got to Gongaga, and trying to do all the world research quests was just a nightmare. Now I get it, SE chose to give each zone it's own breed of chocobo and that for many of the research missions, you needed that zone's choco special ability. But in Gongaga, the world map was next to useless because it showed very little of the actual path you could travel. I lost so much time trying to reach a point, only to break down, look up a guide, and find out I needed to jump on this mushroom over here and then slide along the tree branch over there.
I do get where they were going with this though. OG FF7 also made traversing the environments confusing on purpose. It was part of the games puzzle.
By the time you get to gongaga you’re supposed to be aware of each region having their own chocobos, and that it’s kind of part of the game just like the OG to need a special chocobo mechanic to get to some areas…just saying…I didn’t need a guide I just paid attention to the game’s explanations as they introduce new stuff lol

What I will say is this. The gameplay is solid. But the narrative is objectively garbage.
They literally gave this game the kind of quality in terms of script writing, that you would find in B level Asian light novels or anime.
You could smell that things were gonna go wrong with the end of FF7 Remake part 1 and the whispers BS. Well all the fears were proven true.
With Zack and the timelines stuff, I thought they would make it interesting. But literally it isn't. Its just dumb. Sephiroth literally fcking does dimension tear with his sword and brings Zack in and out of world. Come on.

Enjoyed Remake a lot but Rebirth, whilst initially i loved it, i gave up at Chapter 9 because i just wasn't enjoying it.
There's no story at all, no narrative structure - they go to a place, mess about as if they're on holiday, then leave for the next place with nothing meaningful happening in that location at all. And it's like that for every location.
There's literally no story. It's just filler.

Thank you for this critique, I'm glad I'm not alone in my dislike for this game. Like you say, it has its good points but these are marred by the many negative ones. I was initially excited for the Remake but after several attempts at playing I just got bored of the padding and needlessly lengthy battles.
- One of the many important themes in FFVII is loss. The fact that they decided to potentially have character's survive (where in the OG the had died) or else to change _HOW_ they died, for me at least, it removes all emotional impact I would've had like it did in the original game.
- The multi-verse aspect of the game is an absolute disaster in my opinion. It's messy, makes little to no sense and, as you say, reads like a trashy fan-fiction piece.
- The battle system is also fairly boring with even trash mobs taking time to kill. Bosses, you obviously expect them to be tankier than trash mobs and with more HP but they shouldn't take -THAT_ long to kill if you know what you're doing. Again, it's just padding it out I feel.
There's a lot more points I can list but I don't want to write an essay. I think the problem with FFVII is that a lot of fans have become tainted by nostalgia that it kinda blinds them to the Remake's many flaws. If you enjoy the games then fair enough but FFVII Remake is not a masterpiece nor does it deserve GOTY. In fact Rebirth, from what I hear, even though it's still doing well it's apparently still underperforming somewhat.
I don't think anyone who played the original and understood it with any seriousness actually likes the Rewrite. In my anecdotal experience, what you have are tourists and casuals going "Wow the characters are so pretty". One of my friends who played it literally did not care about the story, she said, "I just wanted to see Cloud in high-def, I didn't realize the whispers were shitting on original fans" when I told her what interviews confirmed the meaning of the Whispers to be.
@@rclaws3230 Really? Wow. Such a shame because FFVII has an excellent story with amazing music. Certain events such as the death of Aerith or the revelation by Bugenhagen that Red XIII's father was not a coward were some of the most poignant moments in gaming history for a lot of us, helped by the music of course. So, while obviously I don't expect everybody to like FFVII, it's still such a shame the newer player who play the remake can be so dismissive. Tourists seems to be the best word to describe them I guess.

I have never hated a story more than how Dirge made me feel. Cringey, angry and stupid for buying it. They made Vincent a complete simp and just...it all felt so tacked on. Lucrecia was a psycho.

I was into this game for like the first two regions then I realized what it is and was like they did it to us again this game is a chore and everything is the same. Don't even get me started on all game flow breaking stupid mini games.

Mirrors my experience. What I find the weirdest out of everything is that people seem to like this stuff? How is my question. They’ve made a 50 hour game with 25-35 hours of genuinely good content, and then filled the other 100-150 hours of some of the legitimately most mind numbing, tedious tasks I’ve ever had to do. I’d literally rather just go to work.

While I can say Rebirth has improvements over Remake like it (mostly) doesn't have corridor levels like what often Remake had and maybe the combat improved a bit. However, what made Remake good in our eyes was, it's the first entry to a very awaited game that we feared it would burn in development hell. Experiencing Midgar and the characters in amazing graphics was astonishing and a new experience to us. It was COVID times when I was locked in my shoebox studio and the only thing to entertain me was Remake. So, with all this I still gave it 7/10 on metacritic.
With Rebirth on the other hand, while we still have Yuffie and Sith as added characters, you are already done exploring the other characters. You can see how childish and anime-like the characters behave, and honestly, some are very one-dimensional and you feel the relationship between them is forced, like Tifa and Aerith who the producer said he lamented it wasn't well shown in OG so he "fixed" it here. So in the second game you are just progressing in the story which was excessively deformed and having to bear with a dull open world and unfun minigames. If they made FF7 a movie, I would just enjoy it and moved on with my life.

The original was a masterpiece for its time and arguably still to this day. Rebirth is anything but.
Ngl, i went from Hype-Wagon-Fan-Boy to "I cba to play this" pretty damn quick - The game survives only due to nostalgia, solid graphics and the greatest antagonists in a video game.
Fans can cope and seethe but rebirth had worse sales than part on AND FF16

So, I was in love with this game up until the very end. I did all the side content as soon as it was available. I didn't mind the weird narrative changes, such as Tifa falling in Mako, because I wanted to trust the writers to tell a complete story by the end, much like FF7 (there are a lot of moments that make no sense until the end of the original,) but then we got to the last two chapters and I am completely dis-infatuated with it. Fighting the original game's final bosses at the end of Rebirth feels hollow. Seeing Aerith not get stabbed but, "uh-oh, actually Sephiroth hit the lag switch and she died anyway," made such a heavy moment fall completely flat (probably flatter than any other moment, honestly.) The moments you play as Zack could have easily not existed because they don't add anything to the story other than, "there's a THIRD timeline, too!" I was so hype going into the final part of the game, despite how exhausted I was after doing Gilgamesh's bullshit, but then the story just completely unravels and I'm not even interested in what happens anymore. Why are we still chasing Sephiroth after like 18 fights with him in the final hours of the game?

Pretty much this, I'm done with this trilogy and wouldn't recommend it to anyone. Just play the PC version or PS4 remaster of the original and you're better off
Im trying to remember in the OG, there are no minigames that you are forced to play besides a few like the motorcycle chase, some in the Golden Saucer and one at the Fort Condor battle to get the Huge Materia and Phoenix summon, but they were all real easy and fast not a stupid annoying slow to progress the story like vacuuming floors LOL.
None of them that lock your progression.
But the vacuuming was a very small part of the game that took no longer than a minute to do so I don't see how that's a problem. But if it were to be used much more often like before entering a new area in each region then yeah that would be annoying but I only remember using the vaccume maybe 4 or 5 times.

The success of a game is generally determined years later by how audiences flock to the sequel. This is true of Elden Ring and Watch Dogs. WD1 sold like crazy but WD2 bombed because folks hated WD1. Elden Ring exploded because of how much folks loved the previous From games. I hated FF7 Remake and I still don’t understand why it makes GOTY and best JRPGs ever lists. Guess I wasn’t in the minority as I thought. Folks that were turned off like me didn’t end up going to Rebirth

Rebirth doubled down on all the problems in Remake, and most of my time playing was not fun. Yes, it had fun elements, but I'm the kind of person who engages with all of the optional content. Sadly, that "optional" content was so bad that it has made me actively hate the game, and I am not buying the 3rd game because of it. You can insult people for wanting wanting to buy your shitty product, but that will not change their minds. The sales are shit because the game is shit.

Personally, it's more the Square orientation that bothers me. When the director says "...we needed to update the story content being shown in line with modern sensibilities" or that he is "...embarrassed by the Original Game’s Portrayal Of “Social Problems, Social Issues, And Cultural Depictions”, he forget that video games are places to escape real life concerns, to dream and fantasize. So forcing diversity, inclusion and censorship doesn't help to make a game better. They should reflect more on what players and fans want first.
Most of the modern SE fans love anything with the final fantasy name and refuse to criticise anything so nothing will improve.

There's timelines and Sephiroth is clearly altering the timelines which implies the events of OG7 already happened and Sephiroth is trying to rewrite the destinies of all timelines. Also if the devs are confirming stuff, gotta take that with a grain of salt since the devs originally promise a faithful remake to ogFF7 before we realized that it wasn't.

For me, FF7's long since joined the ranks of Star Wars and Star Trek as 'properties that I've completely fucking sick of because the creators/fans have turned them into zombie IPs that couldn't make it more obvious that they've nothing else good to offer besides nostalgia bullshit and fan-fiction.' After seeing Advent Children several years ago, I was taken aback by just how poorly Nomura and company were treating the story/characters.

There were soo many tedious things to do in this game. The game was a clear example of more is less. Just a small thing as pressing triangle three times on each life spring, which was the same pattern and not a different one on each spring, is just so extra and requires no skill and is just there to steal even more of our precious time. It's all kinda like Starfield, I don't care if they put in 1000 planets if they are all basically the same and all dead.
