His complaints are mostly based on expectations coming from the story of the original ps1 game. Like Zack being shown too soon, or the parallel timeline with the ghosts "ruining" the story. A massive remake of this scale, that would be just the old story, no surprises, no new twists, would be so damn boring for true fans, that have played the original game to death. It seems to have been made for both the people that know the game from back to back, and also for the people that know nothing about it. Seeing Zack too soon does not reveal his twist related to Cloud, at all. So far, i think it was handled well.

Yep. Sephiroth has been getting consistently lamer with each appearance after the original game. He's been shoved in our faces far too much, to the point that even in the 'remake' trilogy, he seemingly shows up in person every twenty minutes or so just to remind you that yeah, I'm Sephiroth and I'm cool. But it's just not cool anymore. The air of mystery and awe from the OG game is gone completely. I mean, by the end of Rebirth, Sephiroth has now had his ass handed to him over and over again by every main character in the game. Yeah, he's not dead yet, but it's just getting really silly now. I know people like Sephiroth, but they didn't need to shoehorn him into the remakes as the obligatory final boss every time in their drawn-out 'remake' trilogy based off of a singular PS1 game.

He was once of my favorite fictional characters back in the day, but these days I don't think much of him, mainly due to stuff like Advent Children, Crises Core, and the 'remake trilogy' progressively destroying his character. There should be a imaginary rule that story writers can't use time travel/multiverse as a main story element in games. Chrono Trigger got away with it, but it seems like games that use it to a small degree like Ratchet and Clank: A Crack in Time often works.

It's VERY hard to do well and advice given has always been don't focus on the time-travel. Focus on things effected by it, because it's impossible to make trime-travel factual before you end up having the plot fall apart doing so. The Time Machine is the example to follow, Stein's Gate did it well, but near all Square and Square-Enix's attempts have not been good.
It's as if a group of idiots praised nomura and claimed him as a figure with a master in multiverse themes that in every product he touches he has to add the theme, it's as if he doesn't know how to link the plots with his nonsensical arguments. SE need to dump that dude without time to even pack his office.
It works if it's core to the original narrative. Chrono Trigger was built around time travel. Crack in Time was built around time travel. If this had been clear it was a time travel reexamination of FF7 and that the characters actually had agency in that, had to struggle with keeping things 'correct' but also with their own desires to change the past, I think you could have had an interesting conflict that actually took advantage of yhe premise AND played with player emotions. Do you want to set right what went wrong, or are you still desperate to save Aeris and roll the dice on the fate of the world, As it stands they want to have their cake in one universe and eat it in another. I don't mind them going in a different direction (would have been nice to advertise that, though), but the execution leaves MUCH to be desired.
I love the original Cid in FF7, he is everyone's favourite cigarette smoking, foul mouthed astronaut. Best character ever, this is unforgivable what Enix has done to him. Makes you wonder what they will change when they remake FF9?
I don't think they will do it now unless sales in the West are better than Remake. They will have to finish this out, but I don't think seeing continued diminishing returns is what they expected or wanted. FFIX would be a nightmare because it was intended to be what it was on the PSOne with a classic FF approach that current SE seems to loathe.
Put simply-- you cannot show a smoker or the act of smoking in a video game and still be rated T+. If you do, your game AUTOMATICALLY get an M+ rating. That was an ESRB mandate a year or 2 ago. And since they voice act, he can't drop Fbombs in the form of &#$&

Then there must be at least a third one at the beginning of Rebirth captured by Shinra along with all the other doppelgangers of our party. No, seriously though, I couldn't care less. A mess indeed lmao. I'm glad you pointed out the whole Zack shit with him creating more universes (Zack plotholes) cause the entire thing with him towards the end was a complete mess fr. The whole Zack thing really becomes funny once you realize that they give you the option to skip his story segments after beating the game. Like they KNEW that shit was filler. 🤣 Another thing is, the whole thing with Cloud saving Aerith but not quite, I mainly looked at it as: "it was all in Cloud's head" rather than two separate universes cause of how it flashed from successful to failure (+ for shock value) and how Aerith basically only shows up "alive" for him specifically. Like she's still there in a sense communicating with him (like in AC) and helping him fight Sephiroth in that weird pocket dimension (idk what that was dude lol) but that sword still came down and killed her despite the lack of blood (i also thought that was cause of censorship🤷🏽♂️). I apologize for the paragraph. I just have alot to say about how Rebirth played out. I believe the main goal with it is to mindfuck people whether it's newcomers or fans of the OG to keep us talking about it until they finish it. (Dosen't really excuse the piss poor Zack shit. @@100Servings Appreciate it. Rebirth ain't a perfect title, no game is. But despite my issues with Rebirth's story (while minor pet peeves), I still loved the shit out of it. Like, my 1st impressions on Rebirth are a lot more optimistic this time around in comparison to Remake which left me highly disappointed and concerned for the future of 7R cause of how things played out. But I think the way they handled it this time around was a lot better cause they pretty stayed on track with the OG story (minus the Zack shit). It's weird too cause personally, I really don't have too many problems with Rebirth's plot outside of Zack cause his inclusion really just makes it more convoluted than it needed to be plus ALL of his stuff is literally just "fanservice"/filler that doesn't really add anything to the overall narrative to VII.
I really think the point of Zack's inclusion is to explore the lifestream more. I think that is what we were shown in Rebirth, not alternate timelines.
Correction; Sapphire, Diamond, and Ultimate are the three main WEAPONS in the original. Ruby and Emerald were optional superbosses. Sapphire gets shot by Sister Ray in a cutscene, Diamond also gets blasted after a battle, and Ultimate is fought in several story centric places.
A great video, that being said this whole story is just exhausting, and I'll be glad once that last part of the remake comes out and it can finally end.
While I can't say I've seen the real impact/point of multiverse stuff yet, I've loved the overall additions and direction of the story so far. Leaning even further into Cloud's broken mind is something that will pay off huge in part 3, and it was always the main story point of the OG.

While I understand the importance of the game expansion or being told in multiple parts, FFVII games size is 100 gigs. For one quarter of the games story. That's not a game. Its a demo with a sixty dollar price tag. Also, I can't help but think of it this way: Red Dead Redemption 2 has an install disc. The space required is 100 gigs. I havent played it, but Im willing to guess The game is longer to finish than FFVII remake, and has a larger world than FFVII remake. The Witcher 3, which I have played has half the size of FFVII Remake, and probably has a bigger map than rebirth. Lastly, Dark Souls 3 also probably has a bigger world than FFVII, and is merely just at least sixty gigs. All of these games with the exception of one, came in one complete whole product. Also, the first remake is for PS4, then PS5, now the second part comes out for the PS5 ... and not for the PS4? My main point is this: If this product has to be split into multiple parts, there has to be more pacing and theres none of that in the remakes. There's no pace because that would mean taking your time, and Remake doesn't wanna take it's time with the story or giving answers. Everything has to come at you at breakneck speed, so that you somehow] Don't notice the details. If the story slows down for one second you spot the details, but if you say anything about those details that doesn't sound positive about it, you're the problem. For just saying anything. For any kind of criticism whatsoever.
I completed the game in both normal and hard mode...and I can sum up my thoughts in one statement. They are doing way too much. And I mean this in both a good way (Mechanically) and DEFINATELY a bad way. (Story, characters and the multiverse crap.)
Aerith is not dead and Alive. She is dead. That doesn't mean we will not see her again in the next film. They will flush-out all the inconsistency's in the first game. Aerith is dead but gets the job done and is still felt. Cloud felt her in the original, he will feel her more profoundly in the final game. The moment everyone is frustrated with will probably hit you harder when it actually happens which in my view will happen when Tifa Unlocked his mind. This full story would've probably been very difficult to flush out in the mid "90's when the original was made. Tifa had to take the lifestream ride to help eventually de-fragment Cloud. What you are seeing is an even more fragmented Cloud. There is absolutely no way Nobody talked to Cloud about Aertihs' death before leaving the water side. Everything you need to understand isn't spoken, it is in and only in both of his facial explanations before seeing Aerith while everyone is morning her water side and after the flash and seeing Aerith. No matter which world Aerith is on she is Always destined to die while trying to either hide from Sephiroth or confronting him. I will bet that everything you are confused about will come together in a much better and more interesting way than the Original Game. They're purposely making the game more non linear than the original. They're doing this to elicit a reaction out of you when you won't expect it instead of doing it when you did expect it. To make it make more sense, Sephiroth isn't just playing insane mind games with Cloud, he is also playing massive mind games with YOU the player. Food for thought. Maybe I'm just way off base, but I payed a lot of attention to a lot of things that I haven't seen others paying attention to. What color where the whispers in Remake? What do the White whispers represent? The only time they work together from my memory is when they are both trying to stop Cloud from killing Aerith. I think that has more to it than meets the eye. I do not feel the whispers in Remake where the planets whispers and I have a feeling they belong to another entity completely which Sephiroth was able to use after his original defeat and taking Genova. That leads strait to Advent Children. I'm probably just a 53 year old fool seeing what I want to see. Take it with a grain of salt.
Sephiroths goal is to kill Aerith in all the different fragmented worlds, manipulate cloud for his objective, and then to merge all the worlds through all negative emotions to rule over the planet to be able to complete the original games objective.
It’s not really multiverse , it’s more about the lifestream holding their memories and being used a plot device. The multiple worlds won’t be used like a marvel movie , they’ll all come together
This is a distinction without a difference. The scene where AU Aerith gives "prime" Cloud the White Materia so that he can use it in the "prime" universe CLEARLY shows that the alternate universes are tangible--they are REAL places with real, corporeal people and objects; not illusions or hypothetical visions of what could have happened otherwise. Handwaving it as "lifestream shenanigans" does not change this fact. Actually, trying to handwave it as "lifestream nonsense" just makes it worse, because it makes even less sense than if it were a conventional multiverse. Sephiroth's line about how: "THE PLANET (singular) encompasses a multitude of WORLDS (plural)" is one of the stupidest oxymorons I've ever heard. It's FF7R's equivalent of FFXIII-2's: "If you change the future, you change the past."

The lifestream and its multiple worlds which was created after Sephiroth consumed the whispers at the end of Remake are made up of hopes, dreams and memories. This is also why the materia is able to be transfered, because materia is made of Memories/Prayer. Also, the materia was never physically handed off to Cloud, it was a symbolic transference of memories.

Back when I was a child and played the OG ff7, and then played crisis core, I've been drawn to Zack despite that every shit was thrown to him, he just never gave up and no matter the betrayal he just chooses to smile. From the war with Wutai, to the betrayal of the top 3 1st class and on top of that, one of them is his mentor, and an existential crisis from Nibelheim to accepting his fate after the betrayal of the organization/corporation he was working with. On top of every shit that was thrown to him, he was still smiling on his deathbed with a fucking holes on his body, knowing he might never see Aerith again, the one and only light that brings him new happiness and joy despite of all those bullshits. Now on to the fucking remake, this fucking Marlene told Zack as he came back alive that his light of hope fell in love to his friend whom he entrusted his pride and honor. To top it all of, instead of feeling heartbroken and lost, as would any man would be, he just fucking smiled and choose to fucking save this friend of his and DIE ALL OVER AGAIN like wtf is going on? how much of this shit will he get? Who would not like Zack? I can't even give a sympathy or a single fuck about Cloud as all he could ever do is fucking sat down, be depressed and have an existential crisis and do that shit all over again and rub his head off and look to the ground as he remember some fake ass memory. If this was going to be this complicated and bullshit, they shouldn't have released crisis core and just delete Zack's entire existence. They should've let Sephiroth deal with Angeal and Genesis and have his fucking mental breakdown on Nibelheim and then some fucking random blonde motherfucker appeared, that has no rank, that has little connection to Shinra, that has no background whatsoever to the 3 of them, and that has not even participated in a war, to slash him and the rest goes to that story. That should've been IT.
They should let Angeal fight Sepiroth on that Mako Reactor and died. Blonde guy picks up his buster sword and rename its purpose to anguish and despair instead of pride and honor 'cause that's all he ever do.
Because just like in any story, there exist a random antagonist lurking behind the shadow. In this game, Cloud is just like that, he is a random protagonist and Final Fantasy VII SHOULD'VE stayed that way. A random protagonist defeating the TRUE antagonist of the story, Sephiroth, a character that has everything to do with the story. From the war up to his betrayal and Cloud, a fucking random Shinra troop that has nothing to do with the story whatsoever, just a random Shinra troop that has a DID. The moment they gave birth to the identity of Zack Fair and decided to make a crisis core, remake and rebirth, and making him involved with the whole story from war up to Sephiroth's betrayal unlike cloud. They had no choice but to give emphasis to the TRUE protagonist of the story and to the Final Fantasy VII as a whole.
I've only ever played through the first couple hours of the original FF7, never finished any FF game for that matter, but man, watching this video has made me glad I haven't got too invested in it. May still complete it one day, already know the story for the most part but just for the sake of it - but I'll never bother with these "remakes". Now, I'm not one to try and tell others what they should and shouldn't enjoy. Remakes and remasters and all these days seem highly subjective, even more so than just some years ago, and it's to the point where you really have to do your own research and wait on stuff yourself rather than to listen to the devs or even other fans about it. Many of my favorite remakes stick as close as they can to the originals with just some minor quality of life or extra additions that don't mess with the story or overall experience, such as Pokemon Heart Gold/Soul Silver, Mario RPG remake, Shadow of the Colossus, Nier Replicant, Metroid Prime remastered. Many of those to go around, thankfully. If you want a new experience or want to make a new game, do not ride off the coattails of other successful games, like this. One example where it was up in the air for me some time back was Goldeneye, which was sort of vague with its marketing but I recall the general feeling of excitement about it being the N64 classic being remade...when it turned out to play more like your typical COD game and was more just another adaption of the movie instead. Fine on its own but really had nothing to do with the Rare game way back. Some games, bigger changes make more sense, or at least are done better even if not entirely necessary. The Resident Evil Remakes have been pretty successful, personally I do not like the third at all and the 4th is sort of a more mixed bag, but overall it seems they are pretty well liked and for the most part deservedly so. One that I felt a personal attachment to was the recent Trace Memory remake, titled Another Code Recollection, and it made sense to redesign a game originally for the DS to work with the Switch, and to make its sequel play the same as well. I wasn't on board with all of the story changes, especially for the first game, and was really worried they would botch it, but they clutched it out right at the end with something I thought was more narratively satisfying, but it's really just one exception where many cases like this whole FF thing really just destroys everything the original story stood for and the themes it was trying to present. It feels like many of these things are so haphazard and done without much thought beyond just being novelties that it just wasn't worth touching in the first place and screams that it's meant to milk money from oldschool fans because their newer mainline titles are awful. Both Lollipop Chainsaw as well as Shadows of the Damned are two games that are getting remade, one by some other devs and the other by the original devs at Grasshopper, and though they look to be far more faithful remasters, it is a bit worrying what might happen with them, especially with how raunchy they were back not too long ago. Missing licensed music for LC is already one unfortunate reality of such things, and I personally noticed SotD is missing nudity on the ESRB rating which was there on the original release, so who knows. But these aren't even my favorite GHM games, so I guess I should be glad some of the earlier ones are already remade or not yet touched. Square recently asked if Chrono Trigger would be something people would want, and if it's anything like this, god no, especially not in parts - that's one aspect I will disagree on. Splitting up something that was originally meant to be a certain length and pacing only makes for awful filler and milking and not much else.
You absolutely should play FF7, it's a great game. Just don't bother with any of the spin-offs etc. Everything beyond the original game sucks. None of that garbage was planned when FF7 was made. They only made more media because FF7 was a success.
The game sold below squares' expectations. Period. I'm happy for the people who can enjoy the new story arch but for me, and many others, it's a disaster. And if I were a betting man, it is exactly why it is selling poorly. As big of a fan as I am, I dont think I care to play the last installment because of the story changes. All of my friends won't play the game because of the changes. But square will not take accountability and address this... instead they are blaming the market.
I still believe this is a sequel to AC and NOT a remake of the original story. I've said this after part 1 and I'm even more convinced after Rebirth. And as far as I know the devs only said, this story will be linked to AC, not that it will lead into AC as many people claim. This leaves a lot of room for interpretation.
Finally got done with the video, took a few days lol. I think I'll stick to more faithful remakes like p3r. Those seem to be more appealing to me, this....sequel to the og is not it.
Sephiroth will "Reunite" all the timelines and worlds into just the main timeline, then proceed to destroy it with the Black Materia. Only then can he truly win, because with the multiverse options, he knows he can always lose. At least that's what I think.

Nomura did NOT write this story! Nojima/Kojima did! He was the Story and Scenario writer. Kitase is the director who went on being “ashamed” of the original game’s story. Nomura was just the Creative Director for FF7R.
I do think that the remake trilogy will be superior to the OG in every way except for the story, whyyy do they have to fix something that isn't broken!!!??

Finishing FFVII remake, knowing the new proposal and the new direction of the story, why the hell did you insist on playing FFVII rebirth? I play every final fantasy game and even played the compilation of FF7. I'm a big fan of FF7, I'm going to play it to give my opinion about it. This game is allowed to be criticized, even if it's a new direction, I am opened to have my mind changed. One game left and if it succeeds or if it fails to deliver, my audience will know about it.

They've given mixed signals on this the entire time. It's faithful, it will be different. Double-speak. They pulled back on making massive changes in some regard, but still have, yet seem to now be using an alternate timeline to make the major changes and use another to not. And Remake had a lot of issues that plot and game-wise that had issues. Gameplay is lacking still if you compare it to other action-RPGs on the market, even FFXVI one-ups it, yet both do make use of the damage sponge approach to drag out any and all fights. What they've done with the story is make it into amateur hour or a PG version down to dialogue, mature or deep scenes that were "alleviated" for censors, like Dyne and Barret's arc. They skip over complex moments (one would think) like Cloud attacking Tifa, but she never brings it up nor arc of lost trust develop from it. If story falls flat in a JRPG, not even gameplay can save it, not if it's not the best on the market. I figured Japan would bail by this entry, but I don't think Square-Enix has said the sales in the West are enough for them to at least say it was worth pivoting from their home country to please the West. My negative view of the game has facts behind it and where some can't articulate and just may rage, I think anyone that didn't like that it wasn't going to be a faithful reletting with additions, is still justified now that the second part of a trilogy has faltered. CBU1 did not have it together to do this and the negative sentiment approach from the start pretty much doomed it. I'll always say that they needed Sakaguchi to be their glue and have never hit one high since his departure like they did year on year when he was there. I've no idea what they will do when this is over as I can't see them doing another remake when the sales have slid back with every IP release. This is not to say FFVII was a well-crafted story above all. Most feel this way because it was their first JRPG, but it is very basic in terms of "save the world plot". The characters made it what it was in the writing was well above what JRPGs were doing at the time. Ironically, the remake series reverses that to be amateur and lacking in them feeling believable because they talk so freaking strange, even worse than in shounen anime. Square kept improving on narrative as they continued up to FFXII before the company changes really hit and we get what what we have today.
Sephriroth in the original is ominous, but his motivation is clear. Now he's like an insane ex girlfriend who makes no sense, never shuts up, and it feels pointless fighting him because this universe has no rules, and no real stakes... Crazy that this is considered good content in 2024.

@@jthecryptid Exactly. And Square also pretty much ruined Nanaki's or Red XIII"s signature scene in the FF7: Rebirth. The Zack reveal so early on also completely ruins Cloud's backstory because it spoils his pivotal moment in Disc 2 in the original game. I know Nojima and Nomura and Kitase didn't want to do a one-to-one remake of FF7, but how is changing the entire tone and major plot points supposed to honor the legacy of FF7 really?
The most annoying thing to me is that I cannot recommend this story to people who haven't played the original ff7 like my kids. This game is too meta and ruins key moments for new people. This games is ONLY for hc fans.
My copy of ff7(original) as well as a (dualshock 1? gray ps1 controller) just arrived in the mail today. Never played the game on the OG playstation. Have been collecting old games as of late and ff7 was the next game in line. Looking forward to playing the game again in the way it was meant to be played. As a drunk adult and on a crt tv with the OG playststion.
I enjoyed the first Kingdom Hearts for what it was, but the it all went downhill after that. Overly confusing, pretentious, and utterly cringe writing and original characters, masquerading as 'depth' (I presume). The initial charm and craziness of seeing Disney and JRPG characters in a crossover is long dead - especially as the Disney inclusions have gotten progressively more of an afterthought, serving as little more than padding so we can get to the 'important' stuff (aka: cringe Organization XIII, Sora and his fifteen clones, etc etc). Then again, it's not like Disney would even let the developers do anything with their precious IPs other than rehash the existing plots from their respective films with little to no changes. I'm pretty sure Disney only ever approved this concept in the first place because they see it as nothing more than an extended advertisement for themselves.

So here's my thought: in Doctor Who, even though they can travel through time and space, the Doctor makes clear that there's some events in history that are hard coded to every reality. For example, no matter what anyone does, Pompeii will be destroyed and everyone will die. No matter what anyone does, it can't be changed, and attempting to do so will either fail at best, or undo reality at worst. Aerith has to die and join the lifestream. The world can't be saved otherwise. Cloud can try to undo it, but the results will always be the same. I don't like this, but the writers have decided that some things just can't be undone. Is this whole experiment just a fever dream of a bad writer? Probably. Is it just another way to cash in on nostalgia for better games in a better age? You betcha. Is this better than getting Forspoken 2? Getting several STDs at once would be better than that. Will it withstand the test of time and be looked back on favorably? Absolutely not. The best thing to come out of this series is your video. You can barely contain your enthusiasm, and it's exciting just to hear you talk about it. Excellent work, ML. It's refreshing just to hear a gamer talk about how much they like games for a change. This is turning into a great year for you, and I hope to see your continued success!!!

@@MugenLord Maybe it's to let people know that fate can't be altered, it may be delayed, but it will always end the same way. Aerith even says this in the game that the past can't be altered so focus on the future. Aerith, Zack, Biggs, Jessie and Wedge are all dead and what we are seeing imo are "worlds" and memories created by the lifestream. Sephiroth wants to converge all these lifestream memories so that he can control everything - Infinity itself and basically be a God! What a narcissistic prick Sephiroth has become! The Zack and Biggs stuff is just pure unadulterated fan service. After finishing the game there is an option where you can actually skip all the Zack interlude parts, and interestingly enough, it removes the Aerith dream date scene with Cloud.
Yeah, the mods are very good these days too. I think I have something like 17 or 18 mods running and the game looks and plays likes it's been remade in the Super Mario RPG style. True to the original but just better.
I’m still not convinced that the “multiverse” trope added anything to FF7R in the least. And after how many games they’ve used and abused that plot device, this was the last entry that ever needed it added in. We got tired of this plot point in every DC event comic, we don’t need Final Fantasy to keep unnecessarily repeating it either, especially not in a damn “remake” for a game that never had it or needed it in the first place.
I like the multiverse aspect when done right,it shows interesting different versions of the same charc even different outcomes of eventueel,i dont like it as plot device to just redcon things thats not how it works,you dont create a New future you create a New time line next to the original one
@@Marcustheseer To be fair, regardless of how events have transpired so far, everything is still lined up like the OG. Cloud is a mental mess, Biggs/Wedge/Jessie are all still dead, Aerith is dead ( ppl are lying to themselves if they believe otherwise ) Tifa is still very concerned with cloud's mental state, Sephiroth still wants to destroy everything. Ppl might not like how the story is being told, but all the main story beats and plot overall is still very much the same, with the exception of Zack being around which in all honesty has not hurt anything plot wise currently. Just need Pt 3 to see if they completely change things, but as it stands there is no new future yet.
Michael Moorcock and Stephen King are the only ones that have ever done the multiverse thing well imo. I thought it was kinda interesting in Attack on Titan too.

Unpopular opinion, but I think FFVII Remake was better written than Rebirth. I could replay that title multiple times and still appreciate most of it's story, it was the ending I hated. In Rebirth? It's just so convoluted and messy that it's made me lose hope in the series. Remake made me excited, scared, but hopeful. Rebirth makes me feel disappointed. Don't get me wrong, fantastic graphics, excellent character moments, but it feels like it lost the essence of makes a story great.
I implore anyone that hates this direction they've taken to just simply not buy Rebirth and the third installment. I really hope they don't screw up FF IX, but I'm not going to get it regardless, because I think they'll inevitably mess IX up and also in protest of how they've completely ruined VII for future generations and younger people now because it's this terrible Remake trilogy where they'll get their FF VII story. Squenix flat out lied to everybody. I hope they go bankrupt and just go away forever
I'm not a Remake/Rebirth hater because a lot of these games are decent. But it has been a very disrespectful series. It's not only disrespectful to OG fans, but also disrespectful to new players. The developers wanted OG fans to know this world isn't the one you know, but for new players you can't really understand the story fully unless you know the OG FF7 game. These games feel more like it's stolen IP from OG FF7 to tap into the fanbase to reduce the risk of making a new Square Enix IP
Obviously they changed Cid for woke reasons. Why else do you think they so drastically changed his story and character personality? Making him be in love with Aeris' mom was changed because we can't show him being mean to a woman. But they could have done that yet kept him as an asshole. But they didn't do that either. They changed everything about him. It's disgusting.
So in this remake their playing with the concept of multiple timelines, three of them, one with the main crew with cloud, one where Aerith is alive after city of the ancients, and one where Zack is alive, and at moments the alternate timelines converge together. None of this was in the origin, and this kind of storytelling is troubling. Aeriths death was so impactful in the original, because she simply was dead, but her death allowed her to guide the lifestream to help destroy meteor in the end, making her sacrifice significant. In this, by having her alive post her death in some capacity, it cheapens the magnitude of her death, because even if the others can't see her alterate reality self walking around, we can, and so we don't feel the same things that tifa, red, yuffie and the others feel. Time travel and alternative timeline stories just make a mess.
Indeed. A multiverse means that the characters are no longer unique, and so it becomes more difficult to care about them and/or feel grief when they die. It's more akin to someone moving to a different town than having to cope with them actually dying.
If u would mind to look deeper into the story u'd see that the game isn't a remake. It is obvious that all we are playing is just a memory of Cloud's perspective. It isn't a traditional remake so it shouldn't even feel like the original which is a completely different game.
This game is a generic Ubisoft title grafted with FF7 as its skin. God, I hope Squeenix is replaced with developers and leaders who actually understand and respect the FF franchise (or just gaming and gamers, in general). Like Soyny, their push for a "modern audience" is the reason why FF is dogshit, along with how badly they need to tard-wrangle their top dogs (Nomura, Nojima, Yoriyama, Kitase) yet don't. It is the absolute worst and lazy avenue of storytelling, allowing writers to write themselves into inescapable dead ends and then escape them because of the "lack of consequences multiverse". Death, bah.... Sorrow, meh... Why have all that when we can just bait your nostalgia and then flip it with soft landing in spectacle.
I liked Remake, but after the major story changes hinted at I decided not to buy Rebirth unless 100% of the story was spoiled first. Very glad I made that call, and will not be playing this game or the next.
There were so many people interested in FF7 never played it It would've been great to make something in modern times that you could walk off as "I played FF7" But this is so meta that the O.G is almost companion material to it

I can't think of a way to wrap up the story in a truly satisfying way. If they make it so that there is only one prime timeline and the lifestream is no longer fractured into all these other realities, people will just be pissed that they introduced a completely useless plot device. If other timelines do continue to exist, then all the events we've been through are cheapened since there will just be different versions of our characters in other realities and it basically gives everyone their own fan fiction universe, and the worst part is that this would allow for them to milk DLC indefinitely.

I’m working right now, just saw this vid, and can’t watch it yet, but let me thumb this vid up rite quick cause I HEAVILY agree with the title. I was right to be cautiously optimistic about future titles after Remake’s garbage ending 4 years ago, Rebirth’s ending didn’t leave as bad a taste in my mouth due to my low expectations beforehand.
Gonna be honest. All this sounds dumb as fuck. I said it before, but I'm just gonna not acknowledge any of the FF7 sequels or spinoffs, especially Remake. Even beyond the pants on head retarded story changes, the model can get fucked. They absolutely could've made this into one game, but chose to split it because money and because "Muh billion dolla open world". The fact that this is gonna end up spanning 3 whole console generations in absolutely insane. That being said, I do look forward to playing FF1-12 + some of the spinoffs. Why only 1-12? 13 was my first FF game, and I dropped it after 2 hours. 14 Looks interesting, but it's an MMO, so fuck that. I followed the absolute shitshow of 15, and I'm not going anywhere near that. Then there's 16, which just looks bland as hell to me. On an unrelated note, the fact that both Final Fantasy (a turn based JRPG) and Sonic (a 2d mascot platformer) have both ended up as open world character action games is insane and sad in that "evolution" in gamig basically just means homogenization.

Original is one of my fav games of all time. I played half of ff7 remake and for all the things it did well the flaws severely overshadowed it. How any fans of the original would like this mystifies me. However It makes sense that a younger generation who has only heard of but didn’t actually play through the original might like this. It’s a shame cause square had a real opportunity here and it won’t come around again. It’s kind of like how the original resident evil 1 is probably the best remake of all time because they updated the graphics, voice acting etc but they didn’t change the fundamental nature of the game. That is one ff7 needed. Maybe just a graphical overhaul and some new side quests and everybody would have been happy. What a shame
I'm 43 and i played the original decades ago, if this was an exact copy of the original it would be lame and boring. Did square take away your original game? The original will always be there for anyone to play, there is no need to make a copy with better graphics, they made a good decision by making a sequel to the original, even if it is a sequel/remake it's way better than just a reskin of the first. The story of this one depends on the original, the original already took place, now we have to wait and see if the final part will make it all good or not. For your question on how can a person who played the original like this? It's because i know it is a sequel, and i understand that the original will always be there, this game is not taking anything away from me, that's why I'm excited and curious to see where this leads.

This remake is way more shit as a sequel than a stand-alone version, since that means that there was always a multiverse bubbling in the lore of FF VII, but fate was not killed in the OG so it never started along with all other stupid new things. Every canonically linked media always retroactively inserts stuff into the OG and changes stuff, especially stakes (the reunion in the OG was about an alien becoming whole again, but now it is a multiverse threat). So it is really a total shit argument that shouldn't even see the light of day. The OG is still there, tarnished by additional bullshit, just like how many consider the compilation damaging the OG.

Much like Remake, this game just seems like it wants to showcase a lot of nostalgic, moments from the original, but under a different context completely. The multiverse and whisper stuff is not for me though. It really wants to make players think it is deeper than it actually is. Surface level nostalgia sold to me like a Kingdom Hearts game just isn't what I was hoping for.

The story is not anywhere near as convoluted as the KH series and all major events thus far from the OG have come to pass in Remake and Rebirth so far, regardless of the order in which those major events transpired, they still all happened. While the events in Remake/Rebirth are similar to the original, the intent and context are completely different. Personally, I'm not interested in this pretentious multiverse plot when the original had a far greater impact without it. Nor do I think its changes were worth splitting the game into multiple parts. It maintains the same story beats and is mostly pretty faithful to the 1997 game in the events department while making things feel fresh and new, along with much added character depth and world building. That is what makes the difference between a Remake, and a Remaster. Many individuals don't seem to understand or don't want to accept that, and just can't appreciate it for what it is, its own thing.

If I want to play a Final Fantasy multiverse Ill play Dissidia 012. I haven't played Rebirth, but I likely will eventually, only because its an FF game and I'd like to be able to say I played and finished it, however, based on the reviews of people who played the original in the past it sounds like a piece of crap. I hated Remake, and it has replaced FF13 as my most hated Final Fantasy, which is saying a lot because I've hated FF13 since it originally came out. It sounds like SE is kind of getting the picture that fans want more of the original, just upgraded, but they've already messed the bed with this trilogy, it will never be good, and will always be a stain on the franchise.
Aside from the multiverse stuff, the section of story that ff7 rebirth covers amounts to nothing more then a wild goose chase for one silver-haired guy. I don't dispute that the goose chase sets up big pay offs later, but this doesn't change the fact that this part slumps to climax in the next part of the story. Honestly ask yourself: What do the heroes actually accomplish here? Any story to be found in this game is built on the back of character development [and in some cases poor character development]. The game needed a narrative direction it clearly didn't get.

They ruined Cid. They ruined a very heart felt moment with Barret and Dyne by having us fight Palmer in a goofy scene. Sephiroth is just some annoying villain spouting convoluted bs at eveey 5 minutes in the game. They made Cloud into a schizo instead of someone who is under Jenova/Sephiroth's control. They turned Vincent into some Shinra grunt when he would never stay working for shinra after what they did to him lol. Wtf. Yuffie is annoying af and always running away for no reason. Talks about materia all the freaking time! Wtf! Give her an arc, wheres Wutai?? Also, whats their obsession with musicals and goofy scenes? It takes away from the seriousness and creates a big disconnect. You liked Nibel? Heck no! That was supposed to be a Shinra conspiracy and cover up and they turned it into some care for jenova dudes? Who are those families and children then? Aerith's mom was shot and was dying but they just daid oh she was frail hahaha. Shes an ancient, but she's frail? And Cid knows her now?? And he didn't notice the woman was dying but was thirsting after her??? Sephiroth is the last boss of eveu installment now and that dude is not a threat like in the original. I don't feel any stakes that are high here. He's just some goofy villain now and we know we beating him eveey turn.
He said he couldn't do it which actually makes it more upsetting. He wants to kill himself but can't do it. He pushes Barret out of the way as a final act and gets 'suicided by cop'. Much better than just jumping off a cliff almost out of nowhere.

Every character in this game has this strange up beat, go get em, positive attitude. It's not at all hiw these characters were in the game. Barret had a little of that in certain scenes. And aeris had that. But everyone else was much more serious. They did Cid real bad in Rebirth.
This was funny, the no blood part, calling bizarro sephiroth safer sephiroth, then safer sephiroth the final sephiroth with one wing, the sprinkling of advent children without context, just really funny stuff. You should review the end of Final Fantasy 8, it would be very entertaining.
Thanks for the good analysis of the game. I did not like overall plot of rebirth at all. And i can feel that writer is the same as in KH1, kh2 and ff7 compilation - Sephiroth is an annoying, uninteresting character. Also it feels that he wants to Kiss Cloud or smthg - story is very slow - character development is missing for some characters, because plot is splitted and we should expect characters growth later - there were some strange logic of the characters. And sometimes you feel that characters even dumb. - Zack should be important only as a character for Cloud character arc in the memory section. Other things with him are not interesting at all and fan fiction for me - multiverses are not interesting - due to rating and overall style, the game missed horror/dirty style of the original. No massacare, blood, scary seph/jenova alien stuff, Cid is very polite man, Dyne suicide. - Dyne arc was done good, but ending suffers a lot due to meaning and what character says to Barrett at the end I am not expecting anything from the third game. Same as i was not expecting anything from Rebirth after Remake

This is my assessment. The good: - More Yuffie. - Visually is a masterpiece. - The music. - Tifa's tits. The bad: - How they massacred my boy Cid. - Everything involving Zack - A lot of unnecessary bullshit in the game, a lot it really pretty and the extra care to details is appreciated but that's exactly yhe kind of thit that overblowns the budget of AAA games. - Temple of ancients resolution, it literally made me scream for how much bullshit i was watching, enough to stop playing the little remaining left for a week. - Odin - The fucking final boss, holy shit you were not kidding when you told me on X I need to repeat the whole fucking thing.

Final Fantasy VII remake is a good game but to me that’s only the combat system and the open world aspect in final fantasy VII rebirth and the characters those are the only things that make this remake trilogy good to me but the plot like most people have said man the story of this remake trilogy is just a fanfic of final fantasy VII and that’s what hurts it immensely:/ I’m still reallly upset and disappointed by Aerith’s death scene in rebirth they ruined that scene entirely idk what they’re gonna do with the third and final game but in terms of the story of the third and final game I’m not looking forward to it:/

I’ve read comments. Saying that re-showing the same scenes, but with updated graphics won’t be the same and it needs to change. My mind was…….the F!! I was mind blown by those statements and ppl in the west from the streamers and content creators loved it. Now, this game is pretty much a month old and it’s a total flop and the same ppl confused onto why it failed so goddamn hard in Japan. The cope was so deep that ppl aren’t talking about it anymore. Not even SE themselves announced how much units sold. The game is already forgotten. No talk of how this game is on par with OG FF7. If I was a CEO of Square Enix, I would be livid, yet terrified because this company cannot afford any more Ls, more flops. This western pandering, fanfic has to go.

I personally was hoping for them to hold off on the weapons until the crater and wasn’t a fan of the fish look to them. Really hoping they do homage to ruby, emerald, diamond, and omega in the final game. Also I love the OG cid from ff7 and hope they up his spunk in the next game.
well people wanted to save aerith since 1997. It did but in a very confusing manner lol. This is why I always suggest people to go the aerith date because otherwise its gonna feel like they skipped an important cutscene that would had made the ending more relevant. the music is 10/10 mini games are so so, some fun some others are a tedius chore I enjoyed the chocobos a lot some scenes where great "like the loveless and aerith singing her love letter to cloud" Final boss is too long sometimes the whispers "feelers" wouldnt let you appreciate the scene or enviorment.

No prob, I love FF7 in general, so I was going to play this game no matter what, just as I did Crisis Core, which I hated. This video is for those who are on the wall when it comes to determining if they want to give the game a shot and for the fans of the original who won't play this game but still wants to know how bad they fucked the story up. We have one more game to go, and finally, I can put all of this together to make sense of it all.
And I thought FF16's story was teash. THIS IS JUST NONSENSE! I can't go over everything in a comment section about my own feelings but I will say this. I love the gameplay for the remake trilogy and in Rebirth especially. The story is just Nomura and the writer's team saying "Yeaaah you know what? I don't feel like doubling down on this new direction, lets pussyfoot and take back everytning and just Do Final Fantasy 7 all over again even when we set out not to." They couldn't even keep in line with there own new theme they set up. If you read gonna do it and go the fan fiction territory at least have the Balls to double down and go through with it. All were left with no is Aerith being dead again and "Alive" at the same time cause of the ending. Zack being "Alive" (even though he might as well be dead because of the fact yes not in the same world again. They troed to have there cake and eat it to so hard it succeeds at none of the things it was going for. Also so is Jenova just a Non factor anymore? I don't care anymore, I'm only looking for the gameplay improvements and playable Vincent and Cid for the final game Only things i liked about Rebirth are the gameplay improvments and new/updated Music.
If we ever got a remake of FF8, the time travel stuff would fit really well. I'm glad I never bought this game, I would never ever want to replay FF7 Rebirth.
I didn’t get the game but kept my eyes and ears on this game. Just like I expected. The gameplay does look fun and I don’t mind it even though I would’ve loved a return to Turn-Based. When people wanted a Remake we wanted the original game and it’s story with new graphics, fix some old issues, and enchant and expand on character and lore. We didn’t want a Reboot. I hate how Remake is being misused nowadays. I never wanted an Open World for FF7 especially with how there’s too much stuff. Even the Chocobo bits look bad except for swimming. They even changed characters like Cid! I’m happy Yuffie and Vincent get expanded on, but sheesh the story is awkward. The whole timeline thing is ridiculous. You can blame Kitase and Nojima for that (Nomura has nothing to do with FF7R’s story) especially when Kitase is ashamed for the OG story for whatever reasons. Splitting the game into three parts. Why not have a single game with two discs or compressed everything in one disc? People say they didn’t have the technology to remake 7. Technology for what? Adding the Whispers who shouldn’t exist? I wanted a Remake to give a fresh coat of paint and re-live the old game in a new way for even newer generation to experience what we experienced. I knew they screw up the story, but man they dropped the ball. I was so confused on how they handle Aerith’s fate. I was shocked in the OG… Remake thought it was stupid. Even Dyne’s backstory got nutted. Him taking a nosedive to show how far gone he was and didn’t want his daughter to see him like this and gave Barrett his blessing. Remake took a dunk on it. Sorry for the rant. I just don’t like how Remakes are being handled nowadays compared to RE1 when that’s still the best take on Remakes in gaming history.

Im more of a casual gamer (i know, i know). I never played the OG (FFX was my 1st Final Fantasy game). I always heard how FF7 was everyone's favorite/best and that Sephiroth was the most evil antagonist among the series. When seeing him in movies and other games he always seemed like such a badass to me. Now, however, as I've played remake and currently playing rebirth, he doesn't seem so great nor that evil or badass 🤨. At this point im just trying to hurry thru the game so i can move on to something else. It doesn't seem like THAT GREAT of a Final Fantasy story imo 🤷♂️😅.

His complaints are mostly based on expectations coming from the story of the original ps1 game. Like Zack being shown too soon, or the parallel timeline with the ghosts "ruining" the story.
A massive remake of this scale, that would be just the old story, no surprises, no new twists, would be so damn boring for true fans, that have played the original game to death.
It seems to have been made for both the people that know the game from back to back, and also for the people that know nothing about it. Seeing Zack too soon does not reveal his twist related to Cloud, at all. So far, i think it was handled well.

Yep. Sephiroth has been getting consistently lamer with each appearance after the original game. He's been shoved in our faces far too much, to the point that even in the 'remake' trilogy, he seemingly shows up in person every twenty minutes or so just to remind you that yeah, I'm Sephiroth and I'm cool.
But it's just not cool anymore. The air of mystery and awe from the OG game is gone completely. I mean, by the end of Rebirth, Sephiroth has now had his ass handed to him over and over again by every main character in the game. Yeah, he's not dead yet, but it's just getting really silly now. I know people like Sephiroth, but they didn't need to shoehorn him into the remakes as the obligatory final boss every time in their drawn-out 'remake' trilogy based off of a singular PS1 game.

They definitely did Sephiroth dirty. He was once of my favorite fictional characters back in the day, but these days I don't think much of him, mainly due to stuff like Advent Children, Crises Core, and the 'remake trilogy' progressively destroying his character. It really is a shame.
There should be a imaginary rule that story writers can't use time travel/multiverse as a main story element in games. Chrono Trigger got away with it, but it seems like games that use it to a small degree like Ratchet and Clank: A Crack in Time often works.

It's VERY hard to do well and advice given has always been don't focus on the time-travel. Focus on things effected by it, because it's impossible to make trime-travel factual before you end up having the plot fall apart doing so. The Time Machine is the example to follow, Stein's Gate did it well, but near all Square and Square-Enix's attempts have not been good.
It's as if a group of idiots praised nomura and claimed him as a figure with a master in multiverse themes that in every product he touches he has to add the theme, it's as if he doesn't know how to link the plots with his nonsensical arguments. SE need to dump that dude without time to even pack his office.
It works if it's core to the original narrative. Chrono Trigger was built around time travel. Crack in Time was built around time travel. If this had been clear it was a time travel reexamination of FF7 and that the characters actually had agency in that, had to struggle with keeping things 'correct' but also with their own desires to change the past, I think you could have had an interesting conflict that actually took advantage of yhe premise AND played with player emotions. Do you want to set right what went wrong, or are you still desperate to save Aeris and roll the dice on the fate of the world,
As it stands they want to have their cake in one universe and eat it in another. I don't mind them going in a different direction (would have been nice to advertise that, though), but the execution leaves MUCH to be desired.

I don't think they will do it now unless sales in the West are better than Remake. They will have to finish this out, but I don't think seeing continued diminishing returns is what they expected or wanted. FFIX would be a nightmare because it was intended to be what it was on the PSOne with a classic FF approach that current SE seems to loathe.
Put simply-- you cannot show a smoker or the act of smoking in a video game and still be rated T+. If you do, your game AUTOMATICALLY get an M+ rating. That was an ESRB mandate a year or 2 ago.

Another thing is, the whole thing with Cloud saving Aerith but not quite, I mainly looked at it as: "it was all in Cloud's head" rather than two separate universes cause of how it flashed from successful to failure (+ for shock value) and how Aerith basically only shows up "alive" for him specifically. Like she's still there in a sense communicating with him (like in AC) and helping him fight Sephiroth in that weird pocket dimension (idk what that was dude lol) but that sword still came down and killed her despite the lack of blood (i also thought that was cause of censorship🤷🏽♂️).

Rebirth ain't a perfect title, no game is. But despite my issues with Rebirth's story (while minor pet peeves), I still loved the shit out of it. Like, my 1st impressions on Rebirth are a lot more optimistic this time around in comparison to Remake which left me highly disappointed and concerned for the future of 7R cause of how things played out. But I think the way they handled it this time around was a lot better cause they pretty stayed on track with the OG story (minus the Zack shit).
It's weird too cause personally, I really don't have too many problems with Rebirth's plot outside of Zack cause his inclusion really just makes it more convoluted than it needed to be plus ALL of his stuff is literally just "fanservice"/filler that doesn't really add anything to the overall narrative to VII.

Correction;
Sapphire, Diamond, and Ultimate are the three main WEAPONS in the original. Ruby and Emerald were optional superbosses.
Sapphire gets shot by Sister Ray in a cutscene, Diamond also gets blasted after a battle, and Ultimate is fought in several story centric places.

While I can't say I've seen the real impact/point of multiverse stuff yet, I've loved the overall additions and direction of the story so far. Leaning even further into Cloud's broken mind is something that will pay off huge in part 3, and it was always the main story point of the OG.

While I understand the importance of the game expansion or being told in multiple parts, FFVII games size is 100 gigs. For one quarter of the games story. That's not a game. Its a demo with a sixty dollar price tag.
Also, I can't help but think of it this way:
Red Dead Redemption 2 has an install disc. The space required is 100 gigs. I havent played it, but Im willing to guess The game is longer to finish than FFVII remake, and has a larger world than FFVII remake.
The Witcher 3, which I have played has half the size of FFVII Remake, and probably has a bigger map than rebirth.
Lastly, Dark Souls 3 also probably has a bigger world than FFVII, and is merely just at least sixty gigs.
All of these games with the exception of one, came in one complete whole product.
Also, the first remake is for PS4, then PS5, now the second part comes out for the PS5 ... and not for the PS4?
My main point is this:
If this product has to be split into multiple parts, there has to be more pacing and theres none of that in the remakes. There's no pace because that would mean taking your time, and Remake doesn't wanna take it's time with the story or giving answers. Everything has to come at you at breakneck speed, so that you somehow] Don't notice the details.
If the story slows down for one second you spot the details, but if you say anything about those details that doesn't sound positive about it, you're the problem. For just saying anything. For any kind of criticism whatsoever.
I completed the game in both normal and hard mode...and I can sum up my thoughts in one statement.
They are doing way too much. And I mean this in both a good way (Mechanically) and DEFINATELY a bad way. (Story, characters and the multiverse crap.)
Aerith is not dead and Alive. She is dead. That doesn't mean we will not see her again in the next film. They will flush-out all the inconsistency's in the first game. Aerith is dead but gets the job done and is still felt. Cloud felt her in the original, he will feel her more profoundly in the final game. The moment everyone is frustrated with will probably hit you harder when it actually happens which in my view will happen when Tifa Unlocked his mind. This full story would've probably been very difficult to flush out in the mid "90's when the original was made. Tifa had to take the lifestream ride to help eventually de-fragment Cloud. What you are seeing is an even more fragmented Cloud. There is absolutely no way Nobody talked to Cloud about Aertihs' death before leaving the water side. Everything you need to understand isn't spoken, it is in and only in both of his facial explanations before seeing Aerith while everyone is morning her water side and after the flash and seeing Aerith. No matter which world Aerith is on she is Always destined to die while trying to either hide from Sephiroth or confronting him. I will bet that everything you are confused about will come together in a much better and more interesting way than the Original Game. They're purposely making the game more non linear than the original. They're doing this to elicit a reaction out of you when you won't expect it instead of doing it when you did expect it. To make it make more sense, Sephiroth isn't just playing insane mind games with Cloud, he is also playing massive mind games with YOU the player. Food for thought. Maybe I'm just way off base, but I payed a lot of attention to a lot of things that I haven't seen others paying attention to. What color where the whispers in Remake? What do the White whispers represent? The only time they work together from my memory is when they are both trying to stop Cloud from killing Aerith. I think that has more to it than meets the eye. I do not feel the whispers in Remake where the planets whispers and I have a feeling they belong to another entity completely which Sephiroth was able to use after his original defeat and taking Genova. That leads strait to Advent Children. I'm probably just a 53 year old fool seeing what I want to see. Take it with a grain of salt.
Sephiroths goal is to kill Aerith in all the different fragmented worlds, manipulate cloud for his objective, and then to merge all the worlds through all negative emotions to rule over the planet to be able to complete the original games objective.
It’s not really multiverse , it’s more about the lifestream holding their memories and being used a plot device. The multiple worlds won’t be used like a marvel movie , they’ll all come together
This is a distinction without a difference. The scene where AU Aerith gives "prime" Cloud the White Materia so that he can use it in the "prime" universe CLEARLY shows that the alternate universes are tangible--they are REAL places with real, corporeal people and objects; not illusions or hypothetical visions of what could have happened otherwise. Handwaving it as "lifestream shenanigans" does not change this fact. Actually, trying to handwave it as "lifestream nonsense" just makes it worse, because it makes even less sense than if it were a conventional multiverse. Sephiroth's line about how: "THE PLANET (singular) encompasses a multitude of WORLDS (plural)" is one of the stupidest oxymorons I've ever heard. It's FF7R's equivalent of FFXIII-2's: "If you change the future, you change the past."

The lifestream and its multiple worlds which was created after Sephiroth consumed the whispers at the end of Remake are made up of hopes, dreams and memories. This is also why the materia is able to be transfered, because materia is made of Memories/Prayer. Also, the materia was never physically handed off to Cloud, it was a symbolic transference of memories.

I love this review. The fact that they did Zack like that and that he wasn't the hero he was supposed to be, got me fucked up. I was waiting to play for the remake and the rebirth after the crisis core but shit ain't even worth to play anymore. Zack is supposed to be a new hero which was supposed to progress when he was alive on another timeline.

Back when I was a child and played the OG ff7, and then played crisis core, I've been drawn to Zack despite that every shit was thrown to him, he just never gave up and no matter the betrayal he just chooses to smile. From the war with Wutai, to the betrayal of the top 3 1st class and on top of that, one of them is his mentor, and an existential crisis from Nibelheim to accepting his fate after the betrayal of the organization/corporation he was working with.
On top of every shit that was thrown to him, he was still smiling on his deathbed with a fucking holes on his body, knowing he might never see Aerith again, the one and only light that brings him new happiness and joy despite of all those bullshits.
Now on to the fucking remake, this fucking Marlene told Zack as he came back alive that his light of hope fell in love to his friend whom he entrusted his pride and honor. To top it all of, instead of feeling heartbroken and lost, as would any man would be, he just fucking smiled and choose to fucking save this friend of his and DIE ALL OVER AGAIN like wtf is going on? how much of this shit will he get?
Who would not like Zack? I can't even give a sympathy or a single fuck about Cloud as all he could ever do is fucking sat down, be depressed and have an existential crisis and do that shit all over again and rub his head off and look to the ground as he remember some fake ass memory.
If this was going to be this complicated and bullshit, they shouldn't have released crisis core and just delete Zack's entire existence. They should've let Sephiroth deal with Angeal and Genesis and have his fucking mental breakdown on Nibelheim and then some fucking random blonde motherfucker appeared, that has no rank, that has little connection to Shinra, that has no background whatsoever to the 3 of them, and that has not even participated in a war, to slash him and the rest goes to that story. That should've been IT.
They should let Angeal fight Sepiroth on that Mako Reactor and died. Blonde guy picks up his buster sword and rename its purpose to anguish and despair instead of pride and honor 'cause that's all he ever do.
Because just like in any story, there exist a random antagonist lurking behind the shadow. In this game, Cloud is just like that, he is a random protagonist and Final Fantasy VII SHOULD'VE stayed that way. A random protagonist defeating the TRUE antagonist of the story, Sephiroth, a character that has everything to do with the story. From the war up to his betrayal and Cloud, a fucking random Shinra troop that has nothing to do with the story whatsoever, just a random Shinra troop that has a DID.
The moment they gave birth to the identity of Zack Fair and decided to make a crisis core, remake and rebirth, and making him involved with the whole story from war up to Sephiroth's betrayal unlike cloud. They had no choice but to give emphasis to the TRUE protagonist of the story and to the Final Fantasy VII as a whole.
I've only ever played through the first couple hours of the original FF7, never finished any FF game for that matter, but man, watching this video has made me glad I haven't got too invested in it. May still complete it one day, already know the story for the most part but just for the sake of it - but I'll never bother with these "remakes".
Now, I'm not one to try and tell others what they should and shouldn't enjoy. Remakes and remasters and all these days seem highly subjective, even more so than just some years ago, and it's to the point where you really have to do your own research and wait on stuff yourself rather than to listen to the devs or even other fans about it. Many of my favorite remakes stick as close as they can to the originals with just some minor quality of life or extra additions that don't mess with the story or overall experience, such as Pokemon Heart Gold/Soul Silver, Mario RPG remake, Shadow of the Colossus, Nier Replicant, Metroid Prime remastered. Many of those to go around, thankfully. If you want a new experience or want to make a new game, do not ride off the coattails of other successful games, like this. One example where it was up in the air for me some time back was Goldeneye, which was sort of vague with its marketing but I recall the general feeling of excitement about it being the N64 classic being remade...when it turned out to play more like your typical COD game and was more just another adaption of the movie instead. Fine on its own but really had nothing to do with the Rare game way back.
Some games, bigger changes make more sense, or at least are done better even if not entirely necessary. The Resident Evil Remakes have been pretty successful, personally I do not like the third at all and the 4th is sort of a more mixed bag, but overall it seems they are pretty well liked and for the most part deservedly so. One that I felt a personal attachment to was the recent Trace Memory remake, titled Another Code Recollection, and it made sense to redesign a game originally for the DS to work with the Switch, and to make its sequel play the same as well. I wasn't on board with all of the story changes, especially for the first game, and was really worried they would botch it, but they clutched it out right at the end with something I thought was more narratively satisfying, but it's really just one exception where many cases like this whole FF thing really just destroys everything the original story stood for and the themes it was trying to present. It feels like many of these things are so haphazard and done without much thought beyond just being novelties that it just wasn't worth touching in the first place and screams that it's meant to milk money from oldschool fans because their newer mainline titles are awful.
Both Lollipop Chainsaw as well as Shadows of the Damned are two games that are getting remade, one by some other devs and the other by the original devs at Grasshopper, and though they look to be far more faithful remasters, it is a bit worrying what might happen with them, especially with how raunchy they were back not too long ago. Missing licensed music for LC is already one unfortunate reality of such things, and I personally noticed SotD is missing nudity on the ESRB rating which was there on the original release, so who knows. But these aren't even my favorite GHM games, so I guess I should be glad some of the earlier ones are already remade or not yet touched. Square recently asked if Chrono Trigger would be something people would want, and if it's anything like this, god no, especially not in parts - that's one aspect I will disagree on. Splitting up something that was originally meant to be a certain length and pacing only makes for awful filler and milking and not much else.

The game sold below squares' expectations. Period. I'm happy for the people who can enjoy the new story arch but for me, and many others, it's a disaster. And if I were a betting man, it is exactly why it is selling poorly. As big of a fan as I am, I dont think I care to play the last installment because of the story changes. All of my friends won't play the game because of the changes. But square will not take accountability and address this... instead they are blaming the market.
I still believe this is a sequel to AC and NOT a remake of the original story. I've said this after part 1 and I'm even more convinced after Rebirth. And as far as I know the devs only said, this story will be linked to AC, not that it will lead into AC as many people claim. This leaves a lot of room for interpretation.

Sephiroth will "Reunite" all the timelines and worlds into just the main timeline, then proceed to destroy it with the Black Materia. Only then can he truly win, because with the multiverse options, he knows he can always lose.
At least that's what I think.

Nomura did NOT write this story! Nojima/Kojima did! He was the Story and Scenario writer. Kitase is the director who went on being “ashamed” of the original game’s story.

I play every final fantasy game and even played the compilation of FF7. I'm a big fan of FF7, I'm going to play it to give my opinion about it. This game is allowed to be criticized, even if it's a new direction, I am opened to have my mind changed. One game left and if it succeeds or if it fails to deliver, my audience will know about it.

No alternative ending where Zach & Aerith come back alive in FF7 Rebirth? Boo!
They've given mixed signals on this the entire time. It's faithful, it will be different. Double-speak. They pulled back on making massive changes in some regard, but still have, yet seem to now be using an alternate timeline to make the major changes and use another to not. And Remake had a lot of issues that plot and game-wise that had issues. Gameplay is lacking still if you compare it to other action-RPGs on the market, even FFXVI one-ups it, yet both do make use of the damage sponge approach to drag out any and all fights.
What they've done with the story is make it into amateur hour or a PG version down to dialogue, mature or deep scenes that were "alleviated" for censors, like Dyne and Barret's arc. They skip over complex moments (one would think) like Cloud attacking Tifa, but she never brings it up nor arc of lost trust develop from it. If story falls flat in a JRPG, not even gameplay can save it, not if it's not the best on the market. I figured Japan would bail by this entry, but I don't think Square-Enix has said the sales in the West are enough for them to at least say it was worth pivoting from their home country to please the West.
My negative view of the game has facts behind it and where some can't articulate and just may rage, I think anyone that didn't like that it wasn't going to be a faithful reletting with additions, is still justified now that the second part of a trilogy has faltered. CBU1 did not have it together to do this and the negative sentiment approach from the start pretty much doomed it. I'll always say that they needed Sakaguchi to be their glue and have never hit one high since his departure like they did year on year when he was there. I've no idea what they will do when this is over as I can't see them doing another remake when the sales have slid back with every IP release.
This is not to say FFVII was a well-crafted story above all. Most feel this way because it was their first JRPG, but it is very basic in terms of "save the world plot". The characters made it what it was in the writing was well above what JRPGs were doing at the time. Ironically, the remake series reverses that to be amateur and lacking in them feeling believable because they talk so freaking strange, even worse than in shounen anime. Square kept improving on narrative as they continued up to FFXII before the company changes really hit and we get what what we have today.
Sephriroth in the original is ominous, but his motivation is clear. Now he's like an insane ex girlfriend who makes no sense, never shuts up, and it feels pointless fighting him because this universe has no rules, and no real stakes...
Crazy that this is considered good content in 2024.

There are some movies, books and video games that make good use of them like Xenoblade and Spider-Verse movies.
I also hate the multiverse. I guess it feels almost like a cop out whenever time travel is taking place.

The Zack reveal so early on also completely ruins Cloud's backstory because it spoils his pivotal moment in Disc 2 in the original game. My copy of ff7(original) as well as a (dualshock 1? gray ps1 controller) just arrived in the mail today. Never played the game on the OG playstation. Have been collecting old games as of late and ff7 was the next game in line. Looking forward to playing the game again in the way it was meant to be played. I enjoyed the first Kingdom Hearts for what it was, but the it all went downhill after that. Overly confusing, pretentious, and utterly cringe writing and original characters, masquerading as 'depth' (I presume). The initial charm and craziness of seeing Disney and JRPG characters in a crossover is long dead - especially as the Disney inclusions have gotten progressively more of an afterthought, serving as little more than padding so we can get to the 'important' stuff (aka: cringe Organization XIII, Sora and his fifteen clones, etc etc).
Then again, it's not like Disney would even let the developers do anything with their precious IPs other than rehash the existing plots from their respective films with little to no changes. I'm pretty sure Disney only ever approved this concept in the first place because they see it as nothing more than an extended advertisement for themselves.

So here's my thought: in Doctor Who, even though they can travel through time and space, the Doctor makes clear that there's some events in history that are hard coded to every reality. For example, no matter what anyone does, Pompeii will be destroyed and everyone will die. No matter what anyone does, it can't be changed, and attempting to do so will either fail at best, or undo reality at worst.
Aerith has to die and join the lifestream. The world can't be saved otherwise. Cloud can try to undo it, but the results will always be the same. I don't like this, but the writers have decided that some things just can't be undone.
Is this whole experiment just a fever dream of a bad writer? Probably. Is it just another way to cash in on nostalgia for better games in a better age? You betcha. Is this better than getting Forspoken 2? Getting several STDs at once would be better than that. Will it withstand the test of time and be looked back on favorably? Absolutely not.
The best thing to come out of this series is your video. You can barely contain your enthusiasm, and it's exciting just to hear you talk about it. Excellent work, ML. It's refreshing just to hear a gamer talk about how much they like games for a change.

@@MugenLord Maybe it's to let people know that fate can't be altered, it may be delayed, but it will always end the same way. Aerith even says this in the game that the past can't be altered so focus on the future. Aerith, Zack, Biggs, Jessie and Wedge are all dead and what we are seeing imo are "worlds" and memories created by the lifestream. Sephiroth wants to converge all these lifestream memories so that he can control everything - Infinity itself and basically be a God! What a narcissistic prick Sephiroth has become! The Zack and Biggs stuff is just pure unadulterated fan service. After finishing the game there is an option where you can actually skip all the Zack interlude parts, and interestingly enough, it removes the Aerith dream date scene with Cloud.
Best remake of the OG is the 7th Heaven mod for the original, it refreshed my love for 7 since the remake left a very nasty taste in my mouth!
Yeah, the mods are very good these days too. I think I have something like 17 or 18 mods running and the game looks and plays likes it's been remade in the Super Mario RPG style. True to the original but just better.
I’m still not convinced that the “multiverse” trope added anything to FF7R in the least. And after how many games they’ve used and abused that plot device, this was the last entry that ever needed it added in. We got tired of this plot point in every DC event comic, we don’t need Final Fantasy to keep unnecessarily repeating it either, especially not in a damn “remake” for a game that never had it or needed it in the first place.

Cloud is a mental mess, Biggs/Wedge/Jessie are all still dead, Aerith is dead ( ppl are lying to themselves if they believe otherwise ) Tifa is still very concerned with cloud's mental state, Sephiroth still wants to destroy everything. Ppl might not like how the story is being told, but all the main story beats and plot overall is still very much the same, with the exception of Zack being around which in all honesty has not hurt anything plot wise currently. Just need Pt 3 to see if they completely change things, but as it stands there is no new future yet.

Unpopular opinion, but I think FFVII Remake was better written than Rebirth. I could replay that title multiple times and still appreciate most of it's story, it was the ending I hated. In Rebirth? It's just so convoluted and messy that it's made me lose hope in the series. Remake made me excited, scared, but hopeful.
Rebirth makes me feel disappointed. Don't get me wrong, fantastic graphics, excellent character moments, but it feels like it lost the essence of makes a story great.
This is another reason why I downloaded a bunch of the incredible texture and model mods for the OG. Including a voice over mod!

I'm not a Remake/Rebirth hater because a lot of these games are decent. But it has been a very disrespectful series. It's not only disrespectful to OG fans, but also disrespectful to new players. The developers wanted OG fans to know this world isn't the one you know, but for new players you can't really understand the story fully unless you know the OG FF7 game. These games feel more like it's stolen IP from OG FF7 to tap into the fanbase to reduce the risk of making a new Square Enix IP
Obviously they changed Cid for woke reasons. Why else do you think they so drastically changed his story and character personality? Making him be in love with Aeris' mom was changed because we can't show him being mean to a woman. But they could have done that yet kept him as an asshole. But they didn't do that either. They changed everything about him. It's disgusting.

So in this remake their playing with the concept of multiple timelines, three of them, one with the main crew with cloud, one where Aerith is alive after city of the ancients, and one where Zack is alive, and at moments the alternate timelines converge together.
None of this was in the origin, and this kind of storytelling is troubling. Aeriths death was so impactful in the original, because she simply was dead, but her death allowed her to guide the lifestream to help destroy meteor in the end, making her sacrifice significant.
In this, by having her alive post her death in some capacity, it cheapens the magnitude of her death, because even if the others can't see her alterate reality self walking around, we can, and so we don't feel the same things that tifa, red, yuffie and the others feel.
Time travel and alternative timeline stories just make a mess.
Indeed. A multiverse means that the characters are no longer unique, and so it becomes more difficult to care about them and/or feel grief when they die. It's more akin to someone moving to a different town than having to cope with them actually dying.
If u would mind to look deeper into the story u'd see that the game isn't a remake. It is obvious that all we are playing is just a memory of Cloud's perspective. It isn't a traditional remake so it shouldn't even feel like the original which is a completely different game.

I can't think of a way to wrap up the story in a truly satisfying way. If they make it so that there is only one prime timeline and the lifestream is no longer fractured into all these other realities, people will just be pissed that they introduced a completely useless plot device. If other timelines do continue to exist, then all the events we've been through are cheapened since there will just be different versions of our characters in other realities and it basically gives everyone their own fan fiction universe, and the worst part is that this would allow for them to milk DLC indefinitely.

I’m working right now, just saw this vid, and can’t watch it yet, but let me thumb this vid up rite quick cause I HEAVILY agree with the title. I was right to be cautiously optimistic about future titles after Remake’s garbage ending 4 years ago, Rebirth’s ending didn’t leave as bad a taste in my mouth due to my low expectations beforehand.
Final Fantasy 3 and 4 on the DS are better remakes than the entirety of FF7R trilogy
Gonna be honest. All this sounds dumb as fuck. I said it before, but I'm just gonna not acknowledge any of the FF7 sequels or spinoffs, especially Remake. Even beyond the pants on head retarded story changes, the model can get fucked. They absolutely could've made this into one game, but chose to split it because money and because "Muh billion dolla open world". The fact that this is gonna end up spanning 3 whole console generations in absolutely insane.
That being said, I do look forward to playing FF1-12 + some of the spinoffs. Why only 1-12? 13 was my first FF game, and I dropped it after 2 hours. 14 Looks interesting, but it's an MMO, so fuck that. I followed the absolute shitshow of 15, and I'm not going anywhere near that. Then there's 16, which just looks bland as hell to me. On an unrelated note, the fact that both Final Fantasy (a turn based JRPG) and Sonic (a 2d mascot platformer) have both ended up as open world character action games is insane and sad in that "evolution" in gamig basically just means homogenization.
That's kind of my philosophy. There's only one FFVII Story and it occurred in 1997. Full stop. Everything else is DeviantArt fanfiction by a 53 year old J pop wannabe who dresses like he's 14.
As someone who beat 16, I thoroughly enjoyed it. It's one of the better modern FF games. Unlike 13 and 15, which both still haunt me.
Original is one of my fav games of all time. I played half of ff7 remake and for all the things it did well the flaws severely overshadowed it. How any fans of the original would like this mystifies me. However It makes sense that a younger generation who has only heard of but didn’t actually play through the original might like this. It’s a shame cause square had a real opportunity here and it won’t come around again. It’s kind of like how the original resident evil 1 is probably the best remake of all time because they updated the graphics, voice acting etc but they didn’t change the fundamental nature of the game. That is one ff7 needed. Maybe just a graphical overhaul and some new side quests and everybody would have been happy. What a shame
I'm 43 and i played the original decades ago, if this was an exact copy of the original it would be lame and boring. Did square take away your original game? The original will always be there for anyone to play, there is no need to make a copy with better graphics, they made a good decision by making a sequel to the original, even if it is a sequel/remake it's way better than just a reskin of the first. The story of this one depends on the original, the original already took place, now we have to wait and see if the final part will make it all good or not.
For your question on how can a person who played the original like this? It's because i know it is a sequel, and i understand that the original will always be there, this game is not taking anything away from me, that's why I'm excited and curious to see where this leads.

Every canonically linked media always retroactively inserts stuff into the OG and changes stuff, especially stakes (the reunion in the OG was about an alien becoming whole again, but now it is a multiverse threat). While the events in Remake/Rebirth are similar to the original, the intent and context are completely different. Personally, I'm not interested in this pretentious multiverse plot when the original had a far greater impact without it. Nor do I think its changes were worth splitting the game into multiple parts.

Final Fantasy 7 is about accepting loss.
Rebirth is about not accepting any sort of loss, and pissing on what made the OG so great.
Miserable. Just miserable.
Can you tell me how they’re not? Cloud is clearly going through some huge delusions and a mental break, and that’s an interesting take on loss itself. Zack stuff we just don’t know how it’s gonna play out, so not judging yet.
Not here for an argument, just curious as in the OG all the plot points get tackled in the later half, which is mainly gonna be covered in the next game

I haven't played Rebirth, but I likely will eventually, only because its an FF game and I'd like to be able to say I played and finished it, however, based on the reviews of people who played the original in the past it sounds like a piece of crap. I hated Remake, and it has replaced FF13 as my most hated Final Fantasy, which is saying a lot because I've hated FF13 since it originally came out. It sounds like SE is kind of getting the picture that fans want more of the original, just upgraded, but they've already messed the bed with this trilogy, it will never be good, and will always be a stain on the franchise.
Aside from the multiverse stuff, the section of story that ff7 rebirth covers amounts to nothing more then a wild goose chase for one silver-haired guy. I don't dispute that the goose chase sets up big pay offs later, but this doesn't change the fact that this part slumps to climax in the next part of the story. Honestly ask yourself: What do the heroes actually accomplish here? Any story to be found in this game is built on the back of character development [and in some cases poor character development]. The game needed a narrative direction it clearly didn't get.
I really lament that they turned Cid into a turbo simp, not even close to being the same character.
Yes, perfect word to explain him. I was to excited describe him in my video and lost the word to describe him. Yeah, they made him a simp and not only that when he called Aerith Missy, she replies back "It's Aerith". She got offended by the word missy, that's not Aerith at all.
I knew there was something wrong with him because the way he acts doesn't suit his character design..and this is coming from someone who doesn't play original.
I feel like they will botch that scene when they parachute into Midgar once they return there....

They ruined Cid. They ruined a very heart felt moment with Barret and Dyne by having us fight Palmer in a goofy scene.
Sephiroth is just some annoying villain spouting convoluted bs at eveey 5 minutes in the game.
They made Cloud into a schizo instead of someone who is under Jenova/Sephiroth's control.
They turned Vincent into some Shinra grunt when he would never stay working for shinra after what they did to him lol. Wtf.
Yuffie is annoying af and always running away for no reason. Talks about materia all the freaking time! Wtf! Give her an arc, wheres Wutai??
Also, whats their obsession with musicals and goofy scenes? It takes away from the seriousness and creates a big disconnect.
You liked Nibel? Heck no! That was supposed to be a Shinra conspiracy and cover up and they turned it into some care for jenova dudes? Who are those families and children then?
Aerith's mom was shot and was dying but they just daid oh she was frail hahaha. Shes an ancient, but she's frail? And Cid knows her now?? And he didn't notice the woman was dying but was thirsting after her???
Sephiroth is the last boss of eveu installment now and that dude is not a threat like in the original. I don't feel any stakes that are high here. He's just some goofy villain now and we know we beating him eveey turn.
They really fucked up Dyne's story by having the Shinra soldiers kill him. Takes away all the impact of him killing himself in despair.
He said he couldn't do it which actually makes it more upsetting. He wants to kill himself but can't do it. He pushes Barret out of the way as a final act and gets 'suicided by cop'.
Much better than just jumping off a cliff almost out of nowhere.

Another thing is, they could have brought ff7 to a New audience, but instead with this crappy sequel sht those new audience have to play the original if they want the Real ff7 eperience, wich they wont, because if graphics and gameplay.

Every character in this game has this strange up beat, go get em, positive attitude. It's not at all hiw these characters were in the game. Barret had a little of that in certain scenes. And aeris had that. But everyone else was much more serious. They did Cid real bad in Rebirth.
This was funny, the no blood part, calling bizarro sephiroth safer sephiroth, then safer sephiroth the final sephiroth with one wing, the sprinkling of advent children without context, just really funny stuff. You should review the end of Final Fantasy 8, it would be very entertaining.

I did not like overall plot of rebirth at all. And i can feel that writer is the same as in KH1, kh2 and ff7 compilation
- Sephiroth is an annoying, uninteresting character. Also it feels that he wants to Kiss Cloud or smthg
- story is very slow
- character development is missing for some characters, because plot is splitted and we should expect characters growth later
- there were some strange logic of the characters. And sometimes you feel that characters even dumb.
- Zack should be important only as a character for Cloud character arc in the memory section. Other things with him are not interesting at all and fan fiction for me
- multiverses are not interesting
- due to rating and overall style, the game missed horror/dirty style of the original. No massacare, blood, scary seph/jenova alien stuff, Cid is very polite man, Dyne suicide.
- Dyne arc was done good, but ending suffers a lot due to meaning and what character says to Barrett at the end
I am not expecting anything from the third game. Same as i was not expecting anything from Rebirth after Remake

The good:
- More Yuffie.
- Visually is a masterpiece.
- The music.
- Tifa's tits.
The bad:
- How they massacred my boy Cid.
- Everything involving Zack
- A lot of unnecessary bullshit in the game, a lot it really pretty and the extra care to details is appreciated but that's exactly yhe kind of thit that overblowns the budget of AAA games.
- Temple of ancients resolution, it literally made me scream for how much bullshit i was watching, enough to stop playing the little remaining left for a week.

Final Fantasy VII remake is a good game but to me that’s only the combat system and the open world aspect in final fantasy VII rebirth and the characters those are the only things that make this remake trilogy good to me but the plot like most people have said man the story of this remake trilogy is just a fanfic of final fantasy VII and that’s what hurts it immensely:/ I’m still reallly upset and disappointed by Aerith’s death scene in rebirth they ruined that scene entirely idk what they’re gonna do with the third and final game but in terms of the story of the third and final game I’m not looking forward to it:/

I’ve read comments. Saying that re-showing the same scenes, but with updated graphics won’t be the same and it needs to change. My mind was…….the F!! I was mind blown by those statements and ppl in the west from the streamers and content creators loved it. Now, this game is pretty much a month old and it’s a total flop and the same ppl confused onto why it failed so goddamn hard in Japan. The cope was so deep that ppl aren’t talking about it anymore. Not even SE themselves announced how much units sold. The game is already forgotten. No talk of how this game is on par with OG FF7.
If I was a CEO of Square Enix, I would be livid, yet terrified because this company cannot afford any more Ls, more flops. This western pandering, fanfic has to go.

I personally was hoping for them to hold off on the weapons until the crater and wasn’t a fan of the fish look to them. Really hoping they do homage to ruby, emerald, diamond, and omega in the final game. Also I love the OG cid from ff7 and hope they up his spunk in the next game.
well people wanted to save aerith since 1997. It did but in a very confusing manner lol. This is why I always suggest people to go the aerith date because otherwise its gonna feel like they skipped an important cutscene that would had made the ending more relevant.

Nailed it on Barrett. His back story was one of the greatest reveals in the game and completely made his character super complex.
Imma be honest here….. The worst part bout this game for me was the open world more so than the story and while I can say I careless about the story thanks to SE’s constant need to throw in a new game into FF7’s world I’m just not attached to FF7 OG that deeply to begin with so I can easily overlook a lot of the story elements I disagree with or dislike in the game lol

No prob, I love FF7 in general, so I was going to play this game no matter what, just as I did Crisis Core, which I hated. This video is for those who are on the wall when it comes to determining if they want to give the game a shot and for the fans of the original who won't play this game but still wants to know how bad they fucked the story up. We have one more game to go, and finally, I can put all of this together to make sense of it all.
And I thought FF16's story was teash. THIS IS JUST NONSENSE! I can't go over everything in a comment section about my own feelings but I will say this.
I love the gameplay for the remake trilogy and in Rebirth especially. The story is just Nomura and the writer's team saying "Yeaaah you know what? I don't feel like doubling down on this new direction, lets pussyfoot and take back everytning and just Do Final Fantasy 7 all over again even when we set out not to." They couldn't even keep in line with there own new theme they set up. If you read gonna do it and go the fan fiction territory at least have the Balls to double down and go through with it. All were left with no is Aerith being dead again and "Alive" at the same time cause of the ending. Zack being "Alive" (even though he might as well be dead because of the fact yes not in the same world again.
They troed to have there cake and eat it to so hard it succeeds at none of the things it was going for. Also so is Jenova just a Non factor anymore? I don't care anymore, I'm only looking for the gameplay improvements and playable Vincent and Cid for the final game
Only things i liked about Rebirth are the gameplay improvments and new/updated Music.
If we ever got a remake of FF8, the time travel stuff would fit really well. I'm glad I never bought this game, I would never ever want to replay FF7 Rebirth.

I didn’t get the game but kept my eyes and ears on this game. Just like I expected.
The gameplay does look fun and I don’t mind it even though I would’ve loved a return to Turn-Based.
When people wanted a Remake we wanted the original game and it’s story with new graphics, fix some old issues, and enchant and expand on character and lore.
We didn’t want a Reboot. I hate how Remake is being misused nowadays.
I never wanted an Open World for FF7 especially with how there’s too much stuff. Even the Chocobo bits look bad except for swimming.
They even changed characters like Cid! I’m happy Yuffie and Vincent get expanded on, but sheesh the story is awkward.
The whole timeline thing is ridiculous. You can blame Kitase and Nojima for that (Nomura has nothing to do with FF7R’s story) especially when Kitase is ashamed for the OG story for whatever reasons.
Splitting the game into three parts. Why not have a single game with two discs or compressed everything in one disc?

I wanted a Remake to give a fresh coat of paint and re-live the old game in a new way for even newer generation to experience what we experienced.
I knew they screw up the story, but man they dropped the ball. I was so confused on how they handle Aerith’s fate. I was shocked in the OG… Remake thought it was stupid.
Even Dyne’s backstory got nutted. Him taking a nosedive to show how far gone he was and didn’t want his daughter to see him like this and gave Barrett his blessing.
Remake took a dunk on it.
Sorry for the rant. I just don’t like how Remakes are being handled nowadays compared to RE1 when that’s still the best take on Remakes in gaming history.
If they had returned to Turn Based, then I would have bought it. I'm replaying FFX and loving it.

Im more of a casual gamer (i know, i know). I never played the OG (FFX was my 1st Final Fantasy game). I always heard how FF7 was everyone's favorite/best and that Sephiroth was the most evil antagonist among the series. When seeing him in movies and other games he always seemed like such a badass to me. Now, however, as I've played remake and currently playing rebirth, he doesn't seem so great nor that evil or badass 🤨. At this point im just trying to hurry thru the game so i can move on to something else. It doesn't seem like THAT GREAT of a Final Fantasy story imo 🤷♂️😅.
