Yeah. My most popular content is from 4 years ago and still getting the bulk of views/watch time. While it's nice to know that good content can (sometimes) stand the test of time, it's also kind of depressing being a shadow of my former self.
I love the idea "focus on livestream as a secondary market to your brand" This makes PERFECT sense. live streaming for 8-12hrs in a day does little for you. you can spend that time writing scripts, recording videos, social media posts, networking, story boarding.....the list goes on. I learned this the hard way lmao. I'm slowly getting better at cc just by presenting videos instead of streaming. I totally get what you mean! I found my niche too by being informative about my favorite game of all time! Mortal Kombat!

Before watching, this is the best thumbnail+title choice you've made so far. It was a great idea removing the person out of it as sometimes it can add an unneeded layer of vagueness (for now it's the best way I can describe it). This way it's simple enough, easily relatable and gives just the right amount of information to be intriguing, leaving the viewer curious to check the actual content. I hope you watched the video from Veritasium about thumbnails, it's one of my favorite ones of all time :)
Yes I am still watching at the 25 minute mark. These past few videos Devin have truly given me an entire new mindset not only around content but also other things like my current education and just daily organization as well. Really do appreciate it man
I might be one of a miniscule percentage, but I watch over 90-95% of every sinle video I click on. To the point that I will go back and rewatch anything I missed, didn't understand, or lost my train of thought during. I feel like most people do with UA-cam what I do with songs, listen until satisfied, switch, repeat. See ya at 32:20 when I get there!
honestly I'm mostly the same, if I'm interested in a video I'll watch the whole thing through, hell, even if it's a thing I know absolutely nothing of and don't care at all, if it's interesting, I'll watch it all the way through
*Be someone interesting* Best advice that I've heard! This is the piece I've been missing from the puzzle. With this advice I am going to be unstoppable! For real though, great video Devin! I love the content that you put out. It has helped me so much!
If you want to be just a streamer it would probably be easier to time travel back 9 years than it would be to get to 1k from 0 viewers within the next year.
your videos always help me to get my mind clear. I started uploading videos to youtube and was just so surprised by all the support i never expected getting, specially because i got like a 30-40 viewers on twitch and been streaming for +1year. And i can see people coming to my channel from the youtube videos and just makes me want to upload more and more videos to youtube even though they are no/will never be monetizated but they do help me with engagement. Also it has helped me so much getting more confidence and actually knowing how the things i do look on camera lol. So thank you for your content
25 mins. Solid video surprised I didnt see sooner. Being able to adapt to your situation is so important. I remember seeing a Mr Beast video talking about networking and mistakes. A content creator could make 100 mistakes and learn, but if you have friends who are also making mistakes and you learn from them you gain the experience of 300 mistakes. Sometimes it takes 300 mistakes to become successful. Good luck on your grinds everyone :)
That last point is too accurate. I started out streaming with makeup tutorials--didn't get a lot of traction. I then transitioned to doing ASMR (and with that I mean non-sexualized ASMR that actually gives value to people) which helps me grow in a variety of ways not only in viewers, followers, etc. but it goes back to that I'm learning new skills and learning about a new community I was never a part of before (which therefore keeps me motivated). I'm just a small streamer still in the grand scheme of things but I can vouch for all of these tips. Thanks Devin!
Solid advice and content here Devin. Your recent videos have been getting my gears spinning to make a change. Much love. Huge piece of advice for other casters: Watch your cast after the fact and be honest with yourself with how you feel about watching yourself. If you cringe at watching yourself, there's a reason why. With that said, some definitely need to step back from streaming and create more scripted content elsewhere. Me included. Once you hit stop streaming, that cast/vod is mostly dead.
Call Out -"Got to this far" Definitely enjoy these videos and learning more of this side of industry. Excited for the next couple years and see where it all goes.
Ancillary and analogous are indeed words, although something being ancillary would mean it was connected to but supporting the first thing rather than completely separate. Maybe that's what you were going for though. Thanks for this Devin. I made a 'failed start' at Twitch streaming and right now I'm rethinking how I want to do this. I think now I'm just going to focus on UA-cam entirely including streaming here. I think another thing I found unmotivating is the editing process; I realise the need for evergreen content but editing is a means to an end for me and not something I can find passion in. Part of this is probably just getting through that early phase of learning where the process is more draining due to the fact that you're learning a new skill and videos take longer to make when you're basically a noob at the software involved. It's like I have the vision and there's probably a way to do it but my skills aren't adequate and that can be tiring. Your videos have reminded me that it's the right approach though even if I'm in a learning phase for now and it can only improve as I gain more ability.
I've been in a slump lately where I went from being happy around 50 viewers down to feeling like I tanked below 19 viewers. Pretty sure though that my attitude hasn't helped it either. Dealing with a separation and trying to be a responsible adult and showing my kids that a split doesn't have to be a war. Great video as always Devin, truly do appreciate the solid business advice and clear view on how the industry works.
I've really enjoyed the prevailing narrative the past few videos of "provide something of value". Here it is, "Be someone interesting". The last video was about selling yourself in a pitch. It's making me reflect on the ways I interact with the world. What value do I add in each scenario. Figure it out and then learn how to present that value in a way others find attractive. And if there isn't enough value learn how to add it. As I'm writing this I'm realizing it sounds a lot like treating myself as a product I am marketing to the world. I am not a content creator but I think that mindset can have positive applications in my life. Be it personal or professional relationships. Thanks for making me think, Devin. Great vid.
Made it all the way through! Was going to comment at 25 mins but didn't want to be distracted. Thank you for the analysis and solutions! Great talk as always.
When you mention that "The Future of Livestreaming" was your most successful video on the channel, I had to pause a second. Currently, at 61k views and counting, that is a great success. Even though I can see the number of views your videos have, I still always watch thinking that they are in the 100's of thousands. Your information, presentation, and delivery of that information is so professional and to the point. Been a long-time watcher and will continue to be. You tell the truth without worrying about sugar-coating it, and I believe that is the main thing always setting your videos higher up to those who watch for useful information and use your knowledge as tools for growth.
Love late videos call outs! I am a medieval historian and I have been streaming transcription of old documents - it's good fun and some people even watch me sometimes. Your videos have given me many ideas that I am looking forward to implement! Cheers
Loved this video. Watched all the way to the end. Great reminder at just how important it is to get yourself out there. Make Tiktoks, UA-cam vids, UA-cam shorts, post on twitter, etc. Any of this will give you a better chance of being seen than streaming to 0 viewers. You could make one or two videos in 6 hours vs streaming to 0 people! Keep it coming Dev I'm soaking it up.
Watched the whole thing. Your content always relevant to the topic, which is relatively rare these days, people go on to talk about random stuff in their videos which are unrelated to the topic at hand. Your way of keeping the viewer engaged throughout the video is quite interesting too, which is definitely something to learn from.
I'm proud survivor of many Devins videos, I have fought the battles of +30min videos till the end and I went thru that war again today. Will not be my last one for sure, so better go prepare for the next one.
This video was the culmination of like everything I’ve been learning from you over the past year or so. Seriously has completely changed the way I create content. Such enormous value! Thank you so much for making this video! One of my top favorites of yours.
This is my first video I've seen of you and I couldn't click away! Very informative and insightful. I started a channel this last year and am glad to pick up on your advice now. Will be spearheading many more of your videos with notepad in hand. I've done roofing for 15 years, own my own company and have a science fiction series. I love gaming and I love entertaining so I started this out of passion but as a father of two I definitely want to better my chances of success. I feel like this channel will definitely come forward as an asset so, thank you for that. Cheers, from N.B Canada
Man this took me a long time to figure out, hope more people see your last handful of videos. If you understand how each type of media fits, u can do amazing well in basically anything. I've been able to make my own business along side of live streaming and now it's more than self sustainable so I can just have fun trying to make it even better. Your advice has helped a ton 👏 BIZ 👏 WIZ!
At 25 mins you gave the actual #1 thing ppl needed to know. As a person that has seen highs and lows on my personal streaming journey I've realized this...and realized the lack there of is damaging. Overall great value in the vid as always.
It is a tough topic! A friend of mine tried live streaming and didn’t pursue it cause he didn’t have anyone to talk with. A big factor is to have a two way dialogue with someone in chat. For me, I personally enjoy talking to my friends on discord regardless of viewers. It’s important to keep a conversation rolling and keep things on going. Totally agree with your video!
Actually went back to watch your first video and noticed myself taking notes of some of the things you said. It was truly motivating and i think is still relevant to this day. Good job Devin!
Just wanna make a rare comment from myself and let you know that I love your content. I'm a huge numbers guy in sports.. specifically baseball so following someone who likes crunching numbers and data and talks about it is always a good watch. Thanks for being you, Devin!
Shoutouts from the end of the video ;) kekeke -- Loving the amount of Devin Nash content I'm gettin' lately. Always love these vids, so thanks for makin' 'em! Cheers!
Responding to the callout :) but also wanted to say that I have had this mentality about wanting to stream but realising it's not the step I need to be taking for my success. I love streaming even when I could do it for only 5-25 viewers, but if I want to grow I need to make the evergreen stuff. You and a few others have taught me this so thank you for that. I think it's very hard for people to detach from CCV because tons of the big names on Twitch consistently use that metric as the point of a joke or as a means of measuring their own success vocally on stream. It winds up reinforcing that mentality in prospective streamers of it's "importance".
You have inspired me to be more comfortable sharing experiences as a 40 year old with 20 years management/upper management experience and it’s been some of the most engaging conversations in recent time
I was thinking earlier when the call to action was at the end: "Wait can't Devin just look at the retention rate of the video to see if people watched it in full?". Now it's somewhere in the middle. Are you trying to find out if people just skip through the vid?
All of the above and also people like to feel included with the content they watch. Some people find entertainment in communicating with the content creator and other viewers in the chat. So if you ask them a question and have them reply in the chat then you'll reach out to that viewership that is looking for that type of inclusive content.
We are still watching at the end! BTW you might wanna fix your tags one of them is "how to grow on twitch 2020" might wanna change it to 2021 ;) Also, when can we get some videos explaining how to build UA-cam videos? I feel like there is way more structure and organization in UA-cam videos compared to Twitch streams.
Holy smokes man.. I've always felt like I had a voice to be shared but never knew what to share. I found myself spewing out a ton of different videos but definitely lacked that "purpose." You talked about. Definitely going to sit back and really think about what it may be. Appreciate it man 👊
28:29 This is something I finally realized myself about a year ago. I kept stressing over "running out of time" to actually showcase myself because I kept convincing myself I wasn't good enough yet. I just needed more time. And then I finally just said, "screw it, I wanna show off!" and have really just started diving into my streaming, music producing, and art this past year.
Really enjoyed your thoughts on this, it's both validating & insightful for those down moments you can get while being a 0 - 100 bracket streamer. Learned a lot, and really enjoy how you put your thoughts down!
That last point got me gooooood! I realized that hitting the button to stream games was procrastination instead of me working of music production! Changing my content this week!
Thanks for calling me out, Devin. I stream to only 0-2 viewers because I’m lazy and possibly scared of seeing positive results in a loved space. I’m taking off the kid gloves now.
Appreciate the 25-minute mark where you told us to be someone interesting. Will certainly consider it. :P ...no but honestly this was good shit. I saw that /r/Twitch thread as well, and I'm glad you made this evergreen. It'll be much easier to point people this way instead of re-explaining it another 40 times. Thanks.
I enjoy all of your content but this video was especially well done. adding explanation and solutions to many of the common pitfalls within content creation was insightful, As well as adding proper solutions with good rationale really solidified my perspective on a lot of these things. P.S great call to action at 25 minutes you got an engagement out of me. Cheers.
I watched the whole thing and as always it was great. I used to be that person: streaming to 0 people. The reason why I was doing this was because it was safe. Making my dream content is not. I've made significant changes to my life over the past few months (I haven't been streaming as well). This is what we could count as those other verticals. And now I'm working on content that (as I've tested out) resonates with people. I intend to make a broadcast and publish evergreen versions of it.
25 minute gang!!! I've put a few videos on UA-cam, but they are basically rips from my stream with a little editing. As far as being boring...yeah, I could see that. I've been wresting with the idea of making more videos for UA-cam, but I feel like I'd need to get a little bit better with editing and such before I feel like I'll be able to tackle that. Great video as always!
Devin w/ the sauce as always! It takes a lot of practice to BE SOMEONE INTERESTING as well: It's sooooooo easy to get discouraged if you feel like you're not being funny/entertaining - just like every craft it's gonna take a lot of doing and mistakes to find your groove.
ironically enough, a video every day or 2 from Devin Nash IS the solution to motivating me to stream

I hope you watched the video from Veritasium about thumbnails, it's one of my favorite ones of all time :)
As someone who has been a 10-20 viewer streamer for nearly 5 years, I'd love to have a conversation that being said you've nailed everything!
See ya at 32:20 when I get there!
honestly I'm mostly the same, if I'm interested in a video I'll watch the whole thing through, hell, even if it's a thing I know absolutely nothing of and don't care at all, if it's interesting, I'll watch it all the way through
Thanks for the video Devin! I watch always to the end!
*Be someone interesting*
Best advice that I've heard! This is the piece I've been missing from the puzzle. With this advice I am going to be unstoppable!
For real though, great video Devin! I love the content that you put out. It has helped me so much!
Be someone interesting is actually great advice, I always watch the whole video
If you want to ONLY be a streamer it will be like fishing lol...somedays you'll catch a some views(fish) some days you won't.
If you want to be just a streamer it would probably be easier to time travel back 9 years than it would be to get to 1k from 0 viewers within the next year.
@@MrJonne2000 if you do anything for 9 years I would hope you get some recognition lol
your videos always help me to get my mind clear.
"I don't sell a course"
Devin's definitely easter egging us. Incoming course... OR AT LEAST I HOPE.

Call Out -"Got to this far"
Definitely enjoy these videos and learning more of this side of industry.
Thats a really good video. Thank you
Love late videos call outs!
I am a medieval historian and I have been streaming transcription of old documents - it's good fun and some people even watch me sometimes.
Your videos have given me many ideas that I am looking forward to implement! Cheers
"Be Someone Interesting"
Kind of savage but very true.
Great video.
seriously a amazing amount of points that really show you how much you can improve on not just streaming but your entire social account
Thanks devin, watched the entire thing. All your points really resonate with me. Keep doing what you're doing!
Cheers,

Man this took me a long time to figure out, hope more people see your last handful of videos. If you understand how each type of media fits, u can do amazing well in basically anything. I've been able to make my own business along side of live streaming and now it's more than self sustainable so I can just have fun trying to make it even better. Your advice has helped a ton 👏 BIZ 👏 WIZ!
At 25 mins you gave the actual #1 thing ppl needed to know. As a person that has seen highs and lows on my personal streaming journey I've realized this...and realized the lack there of is damaging. Overall great value in the vid as always.
Made it through man. Good content and definitely some points to think about.
Thanks for the great video Devin, I was engaged from 0.00 - 32:22 it's a wild ride out there.
Thank you for the 25 minute video to only end on "be someone very interesting." Very very helpful Devin WOW A+ this is the reason I subscribe!!
Cheers!
Awesome video. About to restart creating content, and this is the best advice I could hear right now.
You have inspired me to be more comfortable sharing experiences as a 40 year old with 20 years management/upper management experience and it’s been some of the most engaging conversations in recent time
Great video Devin, thanks for the upload!
Thanks again Devin you rock!
We are still watching at the end! BTW you might wanna fix your tags one of them is "how to grow on twitch 2020" might wanna change it to 2021 ;)
Also, when can we get some videos explaining how to build UA-cam videos? I feel like there is way more structure and organization in UA-cam videos compared to Twitch streams.
Great video, love the perspective and insight, as always!
Amazing video Devin. In my opinion this is the most insightful advice any small creator could receive.
You're killing it with the videos lately!
...no but honestly this was good shit. I saw that /r/Twitch thread as well, and I'm glad you made this evergreen. It'll be much easier to point people this way instead of re-explaining it another 40 times. Thanks.
For sure still watching the video and learning while taking notes!
I enjoy all of your content but this video was especially well done.
adding explanation and solutions to many of the common pitfalls within content creation was insightful,
As well as adding proper solutions with good rationale really solidified my perspective on a lot of these things.
Watched the whole video, greatly informational, and, ironically, motivational stuff. Thanks Devin!
It's amazing to see how giddy Devin gets when he makes it to 25+ minutes in a single shot with no edits. He's the master of the one shot recordings.
Thank you Devin, love these vids^^ sharing these with my friends and they want to say thank you as well!
Watched all the way to the end. Considering going into media consulting after a few years of watching your videos.
Love the videos you’ve been putting out I don’t know when I’ll ever use some of this knowledge but imma keep watching everything
25:20 Still watching. Love the insights man. Thank you for this.
Appreciate the video Devin, always thankful for the info and honesty in your videos.
Honestly. This video has helped me realize. I just gotta work harder and keep going. Figure out what makes me unique. Thanks Devin.
I always finish the vids cause I love the way your mind works been watching for around 1 year
Devin w/ the sauce as always! It takes a lot of practice to BE SOMEONE INTERESTING as well:
It's sooooooo easy to get discouraged if you feel like you're not being funny/entertaining - just like every craft it's gonna take a lot of doing and mistakes to find your groove.
Thank you so much Devin! Your content helps so much.
