You could get the CD from The Pokemon Center in NYC for a time. I remember seeing it there on a trip.

I remember vaguely watching the mexican Pokemon Live show on TV back when I was little, because of that for the longest time I thought that Ash was Giovanni´s son for real until the Johto remakes made me realize Red-haired rival was Giovanni´s actual son.
Also, as a side note: can´t help but find so funny how the actor that played James hated the character for being a gay stereotype and then went to do the voice of Harley who is an actual gay stereotype.

I vaguely remember this, and it made me remember the days when pokemon was a runaway franchise empire. I had no idea so much money was thrown at it and given such prestige. It's also kind of endearing to know genuine effort was put into the production and performance, even if it was a musical about kids and a yellow rat.

It's a shame they didn't consult with the anime's producers like Shudo (or even make a musical about the games). Pokémon Live was like the 1993 Super Mario Bros. movie, it was such a weird mess and every character was flanderized to hell. If they made it today it'd probably be a lot better

If I was given a Game Boy for doing good in a musical, it would've been all worth it! These guys must feel really cool doing one of the most interesting pieces of Pokémon lost media :D

I kid you not, I've got a 25 page long video essay script about Pokemon Live stuffed away that I'll eventually produce. This show fascinates me to no end.
I'd KILL to remount this show (I'll be it with a bit of script doctoring)

Jonii I gotta say I love watching these video essays you do. There's just something cozy about listening to you talk about some bizarrely specific topic I've never given any thought to.
I'm always excited to see new uploads from you. Keep it up.

Thank you so much! :D "cozy video where someone infodumps about a topic I've never given any thought to before" is one of my favorite genres of video to *watch* so I'm very glad I can successfully replicate that feeling for my own topics of interest.

@@joniivee No sweat. Great work regardless, guys! Never get tired of hearing Pokemon Live stories.
As an aside, Darren Dunstan has also directed pretty much every Yu-Gi-Oh series since GX, including the upcoming SEVENS (according to him). He’s also directed some episodes of Green Eggs and Ham, and I believe he may also have moved/divided his time to LA recently.

@@TheCartoonGamer8000 Oh I had no idea he worked on Green Eggs and Ham! That's interesting. The latest interview with him I found for this video was from like 2018 so I wonder if he's talked about his working situation since then.

@@joniivee He's been doing Yugioh related panels online at things like Galaxycon, where he's dropped tidbits about his work. That SEVENS quote came from a December 2020 panel. While we still don't know where the dub is, a 2021 game for the Switch came out with the Sevens cast and Dunstan was the director on that

Fun fact: Since the male vocalist who sang The Time Has Come for Pikachu's Good-Bye is officially unknown, when I first heard the Pikachu's Good-Bye version of the song, I thought it sounded like Elton John was singing it.
I honestly would move Heaven and Earth to hear an Elton John cover of The Time Has Come. Talk about the waterworks that would cause...

I know this isn’t the main point of the video but it genuinely shocked me to find out how expensive Totally Pokémon goes for considering I got it as a kid in a local Barnes and noble for a very cheap price, and it was brand new. This was I think in the DP era so it already would’ve been out of print by then. I still have it. I kind of assumed it was just a cheap album that was everywhere since it was already old when I found it there. Now I see eBay sellers selling it for 80-100 bucks. That being said the cheapest copies are in the 20-30 range which isn’t too bad, but I was expecting this was one of those CDs you could find on eBay for like 3 dollars because everyone owns it like how everyone seemed to have a copy of 2BA Master

I have a really weird relationship with Pokemon Live. I made a few videos on it when I was 14, they weren't good nor researched but I have fond memories of making them on my iPad with iMovie and having to watch ages for the video to render. The only reason I made those videos was because of Chadtronic who I watched religiously at the time and started the #FindPokemonLive thing. When the full stageplay was posted in September 2016 I never even watched it, like at all. I guess it was because I didn't want to feel 2nd hand impressment which is something I have always been dealing with.

I hope for his closure Rannells knows now that the James he played in Pokémon Live was practically a parody written by someone who knew virtually nothing about the anime (pretty much every character in the cast was reduced to one personality trait) and not an accurate representation of the James that people love and find endearing. Takeshi Shudo wrote the Rocket trio as loveable, well-rounded characters with a lot of backstory and personality, but Pokémon Live (and even 4Kids, sometimes) just reduced James to "haha he said 'don't ask, don't tell' SEE GEDDIT GHEY" jokes.
It's like how Bob Hoskins thought Mario was a dumb kiddie franchise and hated it because his only exposure to it was playing Mario in the shitty 1993 live-action movie, where the directors were garbage people who abused the cast and shat all over the concept until it was some dystopian shit that had nothing to do with Mario
