Nothing comes close to peak Spyro music as the three homeworlds’ music: they put you in a relaxed state of mind after a long jumping and charging around the levels like few other games out there. Simple, yet so powerful!
Something really interesting about them is they're three songs Copeland didn't "compose" as such. All three are just extended and warped samples from Distorted Reality that clearly fit the bill well :3
Who needs Nine Inch Nails or Skinny Puppy when you have the industrial icon Spyro 2 Hurricos theme. Love the tier lists and the appreciation for the ambient homeworld themes!!! Sad I missed this one live, but it gave me a good excuse to listen through this video
Maybe it's just nostalgia because my first experience with Spyro 2 was the demo on CTR, but I feel like you did Magma Cone dirty. I actually love that weird voice sample lol. One of the best tracks, if not the best track in the game for me.
It maybe a lot of nostalgia on my part too but I love Magna Cone’s track, that deep distorted background voice really makes it for me. I remember imitating it as a kid, “Hyuuunh Owwwee”. Spyro music in general (Original Insomniac Trilogy) is just so unique and timeless thanks to Stewart Copeland.
I really enjoyed this. Most of the time when people do tier lists they feel a little... lacklustre, maybe? It felt cool to have you spend so much time talking about and enjoying each track before placing them.
Summer Forest. ❤ 🌅 Words cannot describe how much this track means to me. At eight years old, I lost myself in the beauty that was this homeworld. My Grandma was worried I'd been playing too long: I begged her for ten more minutes, to which she reluctantly obliged. I put down my controller, sat and just listened. I was totally swept away. I escaped to a different, and magical place. At that moment, I knew that gaming would forever have an impact on my life. It wasn't just controlling the character, it was escaping. It's been a love that's lasted a lifetime. ❤
Mate this comment hit home so much. I had the exact same experience with Summer Forest and Idol Springs even. You feel crazy if you're the only one you know that feels this strongly about a game. So good to read this! Thanks for sharing 🙏
@wesleyzagorc9035 You're very welcome. 🙂 You have impeccable taste. This was the defining moment for me as a gamer. I'm so glad it reached out to you too. This game is truly something, isn't it? 🥹
Autumn Plains the banger No lie though, back then it hit me even as a kid. But the ambience of the three homeworlds influenced my liking of ambient music even now as a 29 year old.
Aquaria Towers is one of my favorites because the beginning of the track has this feeling of descending down into the depths and then the RELEASE is the beauty of the underwater city and charging around. I don't know if that descending, quiet beginning was intentional but i love the restraint.
The homeworlds theme music evokes amazement. It really goes well with how I felt the first time when I travelled to a new homeworld as a young kid. Awe-inspired and excited about the new levels!
I remember just leaving the Autumn Plains level on my little tv in my room when I was 11 when there was no UA-cam just so I could listen to it doing my homework, Pure S tier.
What I like the most about Skelos Badlands is the change it undergoes for the chorusses - the primary bridge between them (the more ambient part with the cold synth) makes for a great climax; the first chorus is a bit wonky and silly, but still groovy - and the second chorus is just downright epic, with the bassline and organ kicking in, love that part so much
22:07 - 22:55 Hi Dayo! Fellow music major here. I wasn't too sure what the term was either when you first described it. Oblique motion refers to one note staying stagnant while another moves in counterpoint. I think you were right when you said it's a disjunct melody (a melody that moves mostly in leaps rather than steps), the definition matches what you were saying. You're a legend for remembering that! 😎 My brain is so fried, I didn't remember and had to look it up, LOL. 😅 Another great music tier list! I'll be eagerly awaiting your Spyro 3 song ranking. 🎶
I know this video is old now. But I love how comfortable you are with the camera bro. I say that because 90% of me playing Spyro 2 was with my shirt off lmao power to you buddy. You're a legend 👏🏼
Your tier lists make me so happy and all your opinions are truly based. If i could suggest one, maybe another monster tier list, but the topic would be "most satisfying to kill". Whether it be because they are annoying, or their death animations are satisfying, or whatever
They’ve still got the homeworld theme presets in Omnisphere if anyone’s into sound design kinda stuff. TecFox’s video showing all the samples is super cool
Loved this video! Copeland seems to love ice levels because I feel Crystal Glacier and Icy Speedway are superb grooves. Most of Winter Tundra's level tracks are pretty forgettable to me, maybe Copeland was getting a bit tired by the end lol
My favourite would have to be Colossus, Glimmer and Metropolis for the main levels. For home worlds Summer Forest would be my favourite, probably because I think it was my first Spyro game when I was 5 or 6.
I still have a Yamaha that has similar touch sensitive guitar sounds lol. I love it. The three main hub worlds - music and maps both, are my favorite part of any Spyro game to this day.
Dayooooooo!! I will say Autumn Plains and Winter Tundra has the best OST! Autumn Plains is truly #1, so simple yet so heavenly-ish. Definitely an S! So nostalgic and so relaxing. Spyro 2 really nailed the ambiance and OST’s, Spyro 1-3 have many good songs but they went all out for the hub worlds in Spyro 2 I noticed
I totally agree! I've just replayed that level today on my PS1. I'm there just singing along to: "Ow nooooohh! Ooow, I knooow. Nooo. Owwww...noh! 😂😂😂 It is one of my favourite levels of Autumn Plains...the crystal popcorn orb mini game! ❤
Spyro 3 had the best music by far, but you could see how copeland arrived there from how much better spyro 2's music was from spyro 1. SPYRO 3 OST TIERLIST WHEN?
4:36 I hear that shit in my head automatically lol. SO iconic Edit: I wanna know how long until he realises he never ranked Colossus Edit 2: 19:00 SOMEONE NOTICED Edit 3: 1:01:01 DAYO FINALLY NOTICED - I had a feeling it would be right at the end lol
I think Ripto’s theme fits well, the choice of putting an opera singer is well thought, with the megalomania and the ridiculous inferiority complex of Ripto, he thinks he really rules so yeah he has a fuckkng personal singer in his area
Also, damn, Ripto gets a D! As a kid, that overly-dramatic feel did it for me, this is the tiny big-bad in the huge-collared cape. It fit. Gulp felt a bit too much for what it was, but I wouldn't swap them. Oh! Also, they omitted the opera singing for the PAL release. Maybe they figured people who might be more exposed to opera wouldn't appreciate the campy use.
To be exact, none of the Homeworld tracks are actually composed by Copeland. They're essentially ambient presets that Copeland used, rather than original compositions. For me, they’ve always been beautiful, but from a compositional perspective, they’re quite basic. Shady Oasis is on the same level as the other Copeland tracks definitely not a forgettable song for me. Also, I love Sunny Beach
Cloud Spires from the 3rd installment already wins S tier rating by me personally you're welcome. So many bangers in the 3rd game, hoping to see a tier list for that at some point , although it does have some repetitive bits as well.
18:30 That song always reminds me of JamPack’s Jet Moto 3 demo because of that sound To me, it’s like a macho man saying “ooah” 🤣 At the 29 second mark: ua-cam.com/video/BYQKcpQbcZg/v-deo.html Edit: Q.
Not gonna lie, Magma Cone got a sick beat. It just straight up goes "This is the lava level don't be a clumsy fuck." Sure Fracture Hills got lava too, but this was a much more challenging, hazard ridden level than Hills
Nothing comes close to peak Spyro music as the three homeworlds’ music: they put you in a relaxed state of mind after a long jumping and charging around the levels like few other games out there. Simple, yet so powerful!
i genuinely hated the homeworld music in spyro 2. its just boring to me.
Something really interesting about them is they're three songs Copeland didn't "compose" as such. All three are just extended and warped samples from Distorted Reality that clearly fit the bill well :3
Plot twist, the entire tier list resides in the S tier, just sub-divided.
Who needs Nine Inch Nails or Skinny Puppy when you have the industrial icon Spyro 2 Hurricos theme.

Love this track too, it’s often stuck in my head, this one goes hard, you feel that’s a lava level
Love the Spyro music in all 3 games. I'd love a breakdown of the Spyro 3 music in the future.
Summer Forest. ❤ 🌅

big fan of the Dayo music lists, the dude knows so much about music and I feel like I'm learning something while listening to banging tunes
"I'm gonna put this song D tier"
Ripto:" WHUAAT!"
The homeworlds theme music evokes amazement. It really goes well with how I felt the first time when I travelled to a new homeworld as a young kid. Awe-inspired and excited about the new levels!
Spyro 2 is peak video game music i really love how it all fits his walk cycle and his floaty but still bad ass nature
I remember just leaving the Autumn Plains level on my little tv in my room when I was 11 when there was no UA-cam just so I could listen to it doing my homework, Pure S tier.
Ok

The beginning of aquaria towers brings me right to subnautica music, they both really nailed the underwater vibes
The "neeeorgh" in Magma Cone just always reminds me how much more I prefer the monster screeches in Crystal Island

Love hearing you talk about this kind of stuff, especially thanks to your music background
Robotica Farms is probably my favorite Spyro track. Absolutely LOVE when that beat kicks in at the heart of the track.
Magma cone is my absolute favorite song from Spyro 2! That funky bassline always gets my head noddin'
Magma cone is easily an S tier for me even if the voice scared me as a kid (I'd always have my mom play the level for me).
the glimmer theme makes me misty eyed just out of immense nostalgia. solid S tier for me. love this video
awesome tierlist wouldn't change a thing except I'd make a tier above s tier called "magma cone tier" and put magma cone there
I know it’s been a while since you made this but I’m still waiting for the Spyro 3 tier list
Your tier lists make me so happy and all your opinions are truly based. If i could suggest one, maybe another monster tier list, but the topic would be "most satisfying to kill". Whether it be because they are annoying, or their death animations are satisfying, or whatever

Christmas came early!
amazing tier list 💜💜 can't wait to hear your opinion on bamboo terrace
love these music tierlists of yours keep it up dayo 🙌🏼
Magma Cone and Crystal Glacier are my two favourites from this game. Crystal Glacier is usually always stuck in my head
Just finished the Spyro 3 full playthrough! Hype!
Autumn plains and Fracture hills are the solid S tiers, probably S+++ if were just talking about video games
My favourite would have to be Colossus, Glimmer and Metropolis for the main levels. For home worlds Summer Forest would be my favourite, probably because I think it was my first Spyro game when I was 5 or 6.
When I tried to recreate Zephyr, I realized the drum samples were insane on it. I actually like it quite a lot. Weird bass drum going on.
I still have a Yamaha that has similar touch sensitive guitar sounds lol. I love it. The three main hub worlds - music and maps both, are my favorite part of any Spyro game to this day.

I absolutely LOVVEE breeze harbour, colossus, the home world ambience levels and aquaria towers !
36:50 as a kid I legitimately thought it said "I'M MAD" hence the faun getting killed by an erupted boulder at the level's death cutscene
Metropolis has always been one of my favourites. :)
Fuckin' love the tier lists my guy.
Would love to see more. 🤜🤛
Yes! Love the tierlists Dayo! Cheers from Michigan!
YEES! HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS ONE
Wait, what fourth ambient track was released and quickly taken down? Did someone grab it before it was removed? Is it on yt?
My brain without mental illness sounds like Autumn Plains.
Fractured hills bagpipes is A+++ tier, best of all, no competition, no discussion, period. :D
Probably the best Spyro 2 music imo, is Breeze Harbor, best boss music Gulp, best intro to get me into the game Glimmer
Ohhhhhhhhhhhnnwwwaaauuhhhhhhhhh-nnwooooohhhh-nwaahhhhhh....
One of the problems with Magma Cone is that it's like a reworked Glimmer.
Gulps Music was not composed by Copeland! Its a orchestral sample he used for the boss
YESSSS - love to hear Dayo's opinion on the superior Spyro soundtrack (;
Oh yeah, anybody ever notice that they use the Spyro 1 motif in the trolley minigame song?
Breeze Harbor has such a Spyro 1 vibe I always thought
A mix between Beast Makers and Gnorc Cove
Q. Great video! Spyro 3 and 4 next?
Maybe!
@@Dayoman POG
breeze harbour gets me so amped it’s so great to take long walks on!
The magma cone noise sounds like they tasted something horible "OH NOOAHH"

Hey don't be talking crap about my aowyahha oowahh muahhhs! I love how weird it is lol!
Gives me vibes of Hot Top Volcano on Diddy Kong racing
super weird sample in the workstation, love it
