  • What solar panel should I buy? Briefcase (portable) or Fixed (mounted)?
This question does not have a simple answer. Understanding the pro's and con's of each option is a crucial first step into understanding which one to buy for your overlanding set up.
Once you have worked through these problems, you will begin to see which one works best for you! You may also find what we did, there is a place for both in your build.

Very glad Tanner that you are doing these videos... It is very nice to have one video for each of the things on the vehicle that may not be talked about a whole lot in a bigger video with a lot of other stuff. Would love to see a video on retractable Awnings and which one you guys prefer and which ones are better for different climates and terrains and such. Am loving the content all the time. :)

The Redarc Amphiourours blanket type folding panels are the go 300w 18a in or Itec World 300w. No controller necessary if you Anderson plug to Redarc bcdc. The blanket panels are way lighter and take up much less space than the hard ones. You can chuck over your bonnet too. You always park car in the shade in summer. Portable panels you can then run off the lead to where the sun is. 😊🎉

I was expecting discussion of hard vs flexible plus different types of solar panels and panel efficiency.

For " Scamp Trailers " a one peace or full shell trailer ,they say they need the charge controller removed , because the plug ? Inlet ? Socket ? Or plug and play As I would call it . On the outside of the trailer , " controles " all the solar input ( fixed and folding ) . So my question is how hard is to remove it ? And how ?.

Imagine the day when a solar fixed panel on the roof of the vehicle would be enough to power the vehicle in driving long distances. Batteries will improve in years to come.

If you need more than the fixed can give you, buy a portable... doh!
Just buy a charge controller with 2 inputs.
